Hi there,
I am seriously considering getting a note 10.1 - but I would only do so if that enabled me to go totally (or very nearly) paperless.
I have tried the text recognition thing on the S note in a store and while it seems fine, I think the lag is such that it is totally unrealistic that one would use that while taking notes in a meeting or during a conversation. So my question is: is it possible to set the HWR so that instead of converting the text "as you write" it does so for a block of text when you tell the tab that you are done writing?
I think I saw in the S-pen settings that there was an option with words to the effect "recognition at the end of the stroke" - Can anyone tell me what the other possible options there?
Thanks
I'm not so sure if SNOte can do what you wish. I haven't tested the app in that scenario.
The other tablet I had before this (Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet) had a proprietary app called MyScript Notes, and with it you could just write, no log, and at the end you can select which sections or your write-up you want converted to text with a Lasso tool.
I'll explore more tonight; I know I have to get to that manual one of these days...

There's an app on the market called 7 notes that will allow you to write in your handwriting and later on convert it to text if you use its in built note pad. You can also use their handwriting keyboard in any application that uses text input however, this method will convert handwriting straight away.
It is a very accurate app at a more than reasonable price.
Alternatively you can use the Samsung keyboard to write a block of text in the handwriting panel and edit it before submitting, see my video on you tube on how to enable this feature on the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847817&page=3
I wanted to post about 7Notes, but was afraid to. I don't want folks thinking I work for them. Stellar app.

Thanks for this - very helpful. I might get in touch to ask a few more questions - I really want to make sure this tablet is going to make a (positive) difference for my work if I decided to go and buy it.

No problems anytime. Just fyi, I use this tablet at work extensively and it has completely replaced a notepad for me and saves me lots of time and confusion trying to type and decipher my handwritten notes that I used to rush to do after a meeting in case I forgot or couldn't remember what I wrote.
You may also want to consider getting a full length pen to make writing more comfortable, I've done a mini review of the original Samsung one on post #22 on the following link:

Hi!
I've just published my first app on the market - it's called Epistle.
It's a very simple text editor that can sync your notes with Dropbox; I will add folder support and note search soon.
Since all I've got is an old HTC G2 I'd appreciate if someone could help me test it (especially the synchronization mechanism).
You can find the app here: kooklab.com
Thanks.
Looks nice. Love the interface. However I am getting an FC whenever i hit "Sync". Account linked, I turned off all the automatic syncs, have reinstalled. I don't see any activity in my dropbox. Have attached logcat.
The only thing I would change is the note title field. I appreciate how other notepads use a bit of the first note line as the title.
You need to make a donate version, btw. I have been jonesing for a PlainText-alike and would happily pay for one!

There is a stupid bug that prevents the app to perform the very first synchronization.
I'll push an update soon.

I think I can manage to do that, somehow.

Hi! I like your app, but there is one thing I don't like. You should be able to give an option name to the folder it creates in dropbox. I'd rather have a folder named "Notes" than "Epistle", no offense to your namechoice.
This app is awesome!
I've now a Todo-list on my desktop and phone, synced!
Good work. I really like the idea.
Some comments:
1. I agree regarding the aforementioned opinion on the titling of notes. If no personal title is entered, the note should display the first line of the note in the overview list.
2. When you create a new note, the title is highlited and can be entered. However, as soon as the orientation of the phone changes (e.g. to landscape) the cursor is in the beginning of the text field and the title of the note cannot be changed. The same goes for the use of a hardware keyboard. When I flip my Desire Z open to use the hardware keyboard the same thing happens.
3. Deleting notes: The app should refresh by taking the latest changes into account. If I remove the note on the phone it should disappear from Dropbox. If I delete a file from dropbox, it should delete the note in the app.
4. Discarding notes. It should be possible to get back to the list view without saving a note. It's a good idea to have the note saved automatically when you press back. But you might provide a "discard note" option when you press "menu" while editing a note.

Becksman

In landscape you should still be able to hide the virtual keyboard (with the back button) and double tap on the title to edit it.

If you delete a file from the phone everything works as expected; the other way around at the moment cannot be implemented - with the current API there is no way to tell if a file has been deleted from dropbox.

You're right. I tried that earlier and somehow it didn't work. I'd still prefer the cursor not to jump out of the title if I switch the orientation or open the hardware keyboard.

For me it's not working either way round. I "removed" 2 notes in the App and in my Dropbox they still appear. When I start the App they however don't show up anymore. I tried hitting "Sync", which resulted in a FC. However I just tried it again - created a new note, synced it and removed it again. This time it somehow worked.

I'll soon push another update on the market that should resolve most of the sync problems.
Would sorting by modification time or search be possible? The UI is perfection, but with many, many notes i get confused while navigating
Please ignore gregory's comment on the market. Unix line endings ftw.
Hey, i downloaded this yesterday! I'll provide any help needed!
By the way, love the latin root for the name.
It looks really pretty. The only reason I'm not going to give it a try is that Simplenote sync is currently a requirement for me.
But your attention to aesthetics pleases me
Thanks, thanks a lot for this app. Working great on my HERO, and finally I can sync my notes between my phone and my Linux desktop!
I don't mind the folder name or even the reverse sync issue, but I've got a few ideas on improving this. For example, you should stick to a notes format (like TiddyWiki) and give us ability to remark (bold) text, create check-able lists of items inside a note.... with transparent formatting (for example, *text* should bold, []item1 []item2 should create a check-able list, !subtitle for that exactly that and so on...). I think it should not be very difficult to implement and it could lead to, perhaps, a web app complement.
This app has tons of potential uses and improves. Thanks again.
Ever since I got my Samsung Captivate I've been using its built in memo pad for months. The fact that I couldn't export my notes was kind of a bummer. Now with your simple app, taking notes has never been simpler.
I'll try to report bugs when I see them. Thanks.
Been looking for something like this for ages, thank you.
Yesterday it worked fine, but today I'm getting FCs every time I open it on my Hero.
I'm about to test this in the Nook Color.. Thought the title "Drop-Notes" might be best appropriate for its key function :- )
All the minimal features are AWESOME thus far!
I've been using AK Notepad for the past few months.
I DON'T LIKE that it requires their webapp at catch.com to sync.
I REALLY LIKE that yours is very simple.
The only feature that I liked in AK Notepad, that I would like for you to implement would be #hashtags. This would make categorizing notes much simpler on both ends of the sync.
Along with the hashtags, a simple filtering system would be great!
And perhaps a customizable widget, that displays ONLY a set hashtag?!
Great job!
I'll be the first to donate/buy when you choose that route.
I can't link my dropbox account. the link button does nothing for me. It lets me enter my email and password, but thats it.
I'm using a Cliq XT running android 1.5
Hi! Im new to this forum and also to the transformer. I bought it because its a really cool devise and I plan to use it to take notes during classes and so on. It works fine for this, except right now im studying the phonetic alphabet (the swedish one) and polaris office does not have any of the symbols i need. Therefore im in need of an app that can handle bot typing on the keyboard and handwriting with a stylus pen, kinda like the one on HTC Flyer.
Is there an app that can do this? Or is it possible to maybe get the htc notes app for the transformer? it does not have to work flawless, but i want to be able to add handwritten notes to the ones i type.
Thanks!
Not sure about different 'Notes' apps, there are quite a few to choose from on the market but I'd probably recommend 'Thumb Keyboard'. Apart from it being the best thing since slice bread with regards to typing it also has all the different characters and keysets that you'd ever need and is fully customisable.
There is...I can't recall the name but you can write and type on a note. it shrinks your writing to fit on a line too... pretty cool.
Will check when I get home.

Freenote does this, I love it Perfect for class. Also, SwiftKey for Tablets is my keyboard recommendation - it has a split keyboard option for thumb typing as well, plus predictive text.
Swedish, huh? How'd you get into that? My husband's family is from Sweden. (Not to clutter up the thread, just don't hear Sweden come up too often)

You can try to port Myscript Notes Mobile from the Lenovo Ideapad.

It converts your stylus notes in normal typed text.

Hmm. I just noticed that freenotes has no option to export or save files as documents. Since i plan on uing this in my studies i really need this function. Is there a way to do this or do i need to find another app?
maybe my mediocre english got you all confused. What im looking for is an app that can handle, or at least save files as, .doc files that has an option for handwriting aswell as typing with the keyboard. Kinda like polaris office, but with built in handwriting.
Thanks again
Latest update of Evernote came with a fairly decent Skitch integration. Might be worth a look.

I unfortunately just noticed this today as well, actually. I was hoping that maybe I could figure out a way to export Freenotes into .pdf format. Either way, will keep an eye out for what you're looking for and will keep watching this thread. I think this concept for Android is sort of ongoing development, so hopefully it'll take off soon!

I downloadet that application two days ago but unfortunatly its not really what im looking for. Skitch might work for drawing, but not really for writing. I want an app that is more like Word or Polaris office, but with handwriting also.
Thanks for the tip though!
On top if this... is there an app that allows you to open up .pdf files and write directly on them?

RepliGo Reader
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cerience.reader.app&feature=search_result
could possibly try something like hanwang. Its a keyboard replacement that either lets you type, or write, and it auto converts it to typed text.
A few tips, the last version i tried defaulted to Chinese, change it in the settings.
and write in cursive, even if its sloppy as mess its more accurate, amazingly accurate! than regular script writing.
Hanwang!!
Antipaper - Good for handwriting but does no recognition.
I export to Evernote and store my notes there. Evernote does recognition (not conversion) and lets me search my hand written notes.
Hi all!
Although I am an old user here, this is my first post/thread about my new Galaxy Note 10.1
Ok so our beloved note is supposed to be work oriented and one of the most used perspective of that is Emails I guess.
However this one has a major flow (on stock ROMS) and that is the absence of any spell checker!
I know there's swype and many other features, however spell checker is still an important feature!!!
To make myself clear (if someone didn't understand what I mean), we miss the feature where the wrong typed word is underlined in thin zigzag red line. Once you click on it, many suggestions pop up to replace the wrong word.
This exists on PC, outlooks, word etc.., and exists even on AOSP, CM and all related roms! It even exists on iPad!!!
To ease the way, someone in S2 forums has done it on stock Touchwiz ROM. Look here: PRESS HERE
In this thread he outlines the method he used. I guess it requires AOSP keyboard and libraries as well as modifying the framework and maybe settings apk.
Besides he shows advanced ways of disabling it in browser URL links and contacts app and etc...
Please developers look into this and make it happen, at least for the 4.1.2 ROMS. This is a major feature that we need to have, especially when typing!
I really dunno SAMSUNG what was thinking when it removed this feature from AOSP android!!! I mean this tablet was meant for these things!!!
Thank you!
+1. Hell...+20.
I was looking for spell check the other day when sending out an email. Would definitely be nice. I am not sure how Samsung missed this one
Its mind blowing that such a basic feature is missing from all the Samsung devices! +100 on this request

I'm an "Old User" as well, and although no spell checker is not quite a deal-breaker, it will sure add a lot of time to everything I need to do with this new tool/tablet...SO: I'll add my voter to whatever a +100 does
+1000 hell yeah! A grammar checker would be wonderful too! A girl can dream.

Well the mentioned method as well as the method I mentioned in OP are the same! However I am no developer and I really dunno what decompile means and how it is done!
However, I will look into it later on when I have some time.
I would pay for this feature if it was added. I really miss having a spell checker.
I found an app called Ginger Grammer and Spelling.. you can find it in the play store. Just haven't been able to make it work on my Note 10.1. Anybody willing to try it and tell me if it is just my device?
I'll keep it short. Even with it's faults, fleksy on the gear 2 is pretty kick a** especially living in NY. It may not seem much to have the option of typing on your wrist as opposed to typing on the smartphone but for me it's huge especially living and travelling within NYC. In my business I have my clients text me as opposed to email, it's an option that helps keep me competitive.
After one day I am appreciating (especially in a crowded subway, where media controller has been great too) to reply to text It's actually a little fun to watch fleksy turn vuysman into vitamin or cilfnia into california. I always tell folks when they see my gear 2 is what it comes down to "Does this product make my life easier?" - even before fleksy...a little bit but now that it is here even in beta yeah...it increases my productivity. Yeah I know it's not perfected but I'm thankful they released it in beta form (which still makes my life easier.)
Thank you Fleksy. You were 2 months late and I was ticked off when this wasn't at launch but like an awesome guest at a party, better late than never.
I agree with you that the watch and Fleksy app is making my life easier but since I also want to text using my native language it prety much becomes an obselete app to those that doesn't speak english or to those I want to text in Greek.

I believe they will be improving Fleksy, but I got 2 great tips from another that help with it: 1. Put it on your shortcut clock to get to it quicker. 2. Take your most called/Texted contacts and add asterisks ** to the beginning of them, so that they come to the top of the Contact list. This way you can find them quickly to get to the threads.

#2 - isn't that what "favorites" is for in the phone contacts? Even Samsung gives an option to show favorites instead of all contacts on the watch - they should do that instead of forcing people to do that workaround.

I found that if you are at the end of a word and you swipe down it will cycle between different words that are similar.
If you insert a period, and then swipe down it will cycle through punctuation marks!
MyNotes
Post #1: App introduction, download link, credits, screenshots attached.
Post #2: FAQ / other info.
Hello!
I've spent last days in making an app for taking notes. Initially, I wanted to make a shopping list, but then I decided to make an app which allow me to take notes because there are moments when I need to take a quick note. I can't upload it to Google Play because I don't have my own money ( and I'm almost 21 already... ).
I'm still a Tasker newbie
FEATURES:
☆ Possibility to save the current text from text field to a .txt file in a folder named MyNotes, along with the date and the clock when the text was saved. You can save text to same .txt file as much as you want.
☆ Enable a shake option to launch MyNotes.
☆ Enable a persistent notification, which after is touched will run MyNotes.
☆ No ads
That's all the features. I've wanted to add a color picker too for changing the theme, but it went troublesome for me and also then I didn't think themes are that useful for an app like this.
DOWNLOAD: https://www.mediafire.com/download/3dggq5uhdyugd33

- reddit forum (big thanks to Ratchet_Guy)

NOTE: This app was created on my phone, a Samsung Galaxy J5, with a 5.0", 720x1280 resolution screen. It might look weird on other resolutions.
FAQ / other info
1. Who are you?
I'm Robert (Force @xda). I've created this app using Tasker because there are moments when i need to write a quick note and read it later. I'm sure that there are apps much better than this, but i wanted one made with Tasker. I'm addicted to Tasker, but i still noob
2) Why are required network permissions?
Tasker added the permissions automatically according to app actions/features. I've added a button named "XDA thread" which open the xda thread. The button purpose is for writing bugs/reviews/suggestions. There is also a "SHARE" button to contact me through email.
I can remove these 2 buttons if you are concerned. I can also share the xml project.
3) Long press the buttons to see what it does.
4) I would like to know your review, your suggestions and also let me know if you found any bug.
5) The .txt file get saved in the folder named MyNotes in your phone internal memory (most likely /sdcard/ or /sdcard0/).
6. The "X" icon or phone back button minimize the app, so it saves the current text in textfield.
I'm waiting your opinion / review / suggestion
Thank you!
May I have your project file?

Sure. I've attached it to this post. It isn't that clean, for example the main scene is called SHOPPING because initially I wanted to make a shopping list. I didn't rename since I've exported it as app.
Let me know if you have any questions regarding the project file, or if you think I can make "the code" cleaner.
Also, if you wanna make your app or something and wanna share it, I would like to give credits to me if you are using scene, only if you mind. because I've spent few days working on
Please let me know your opinion about this app, good or bad review doesn't matter, but I want an honest review
Thank you!

I own a Samsung Note 3 so I am asking if could be possible to use the S pen with this project...
It seems nice but you can improve your design

It seems that is possible. Check that link. What kind of trigger you want?
By the way, LMT launcher helps in launching apps faster too.

Thank you for your reply!
At begin it looked even worse I think I'll try to design it with GIMP maybe.
Thanks.. but as you can imagine I am really noob with tasker so also with this app I really don't know where to begin to use S pen with your project... what I would like is the features to open your project when spen is removed and use the pen to write inside your notes...
Really difficult for you?

As far as I can see on internet, you need a plugin to do that. It can't be done alone with Tasker.
This is what you need: Note Buddy (S Pen Helper) . It does what you're looking for, and you don't have to use it with Tasker.
Please check it.
