[Req] Spell checking - Please developers look into it - Galaxy Note 10.1 Themes and Apps

Hi all!
Although I am an old user here, this is my first post/thread about my new Galaxy Note 10.1
Ok so our beloved note is supposed to be work oriented and one of the most used perspective of that is Emails I guess.
However this one has a major flow (on stock ROMS) and that is the absence of any spell checker!
I know there's swype and many other features, however spell checker is still an important feature!!!
To make myself clear (if someone didn't understand what I mean), we miss the feature where the wrong typed word is underlined in thin zigzag red line. Once you click on it, many suggestions pop up to replace the wrong word.
This exists on PC, outlooks, word etc.., and exists even on AOSP, CM and all related roms! It even exists on iPad!!!
To ease the way, someone in S2 forums has done it on stock Touchwiz ROM. Look here: PRESS HERE
In this thread he outlines the method he used. I guess it requires AOSP keyboard and libraries as well as modifying the framework and maybe settings apk.
Besides he shows advanced ways of disabling it in browser URL links and contacts app and etc...
Please developers look into this and make it happen, at least for the 4.1.2 ROMS. This is a major feature that we need to have, especially when typing!
I really dunno SAMSUNG what was thinking when it removed this feature from AOSP android!!! I mean this tablet was meant for these things!!!
Thank you!

+1. Hell...+20.
I was looking for spell check the other day when sending out an email. Would definitely be nice. I am not sure how Samsung missed this one

Its mind blowing that such a basic feature is missing from all the Samsung devices! +100 on this request

+50

I'm an "Old User" as well, and although no spell checker is not quite a deal-breaker, it will sure add a lot of time to everything I need to do with this new tool/tablet...SO: I'll add my voter to whatever a +100 does

+1000 hell yeah! A grammar checker would be wonderful too! A girl can dream.

Bump,
Has anyone tried this? I don't have the tools to do so

Well the mentioned method as well as the method I mentioned in OP are the same! However I am no developer and I really dunno what decompile means and how it is done!
However, I will look into it later on when I have some time.

I would pay for this feature if it was added. I really miss having a spell checker.

I found an app called Ginger Grammer and Spelling.. you can find it in the play store. Just haven't been able to make it work on my Note 10.1. Anybody willing to try it and tell me if it is just my device?

How do I delete words from the stock android keyboard?

The topic title is the question. I tried looking online but there is no Language and Keyboard option under settings on this phone.
I'm interrested too, thanks
Bring up my post.
Can anyone help me?
I am not sure what You really meant, but I would get HistoryEraser from android market, let me know how it goes.

I probably should have included the word "dictionary" in my post.
I added some words to the stock android keyboard's dictionary so it would remember things like "haha" instead of correcting it to Bahamas (true story, try typing "haha" with the stock keyboard). I also added a lot of crap just to test out the adding feature and now I want to delete them from my dictionary. I don't know how to though.
Hi, I found this
Maybe it's what you are looking for
Hope it helps
That was actually exactly what I was looking for. Haha, thanks.
Yeah, I probably should've explained my question a little better, but in the end we got the answer. Thanks again.

[Q] Would post in Developers Forums but need at least 10 Posts.....

I did a search and could not readily find the answer......
Is Gapps.zip also required with DJ ICS+ V1.0.3 also?
I root and upgraded my Sam Tab 10.1. It required Gapps.zip. Also it also auto downloaded all of the apps from my Marketplace library. On the Skyrocket each apps has to be re-downloaded. Would installing Gapps.zip, if even possible on the Skyrocket, add any missing baseline apps and do the auto download of the library?
TIA,
Rob
Nope you don't need gapps

The funny thing is that I did not need to use Titanium on the Tab 10.1. Which was very cool.......

same thing, google wouldnt restore anything I had unless I was using AOSP or something cm7.
So been using DJ ICS+ V1.0.3 for a while now. The aesthetics are excellent and it appears to be very stable. So I have to say the folks that worked on this did a really good job. However, benchmarking this load shows about a 20% decrease in performance compared to a stock 2.3.5, even when clocked at 1.7Ghz versus the stock 1.5Ghz.
I could be doing something error but the load works very well. Perhaps FauxClock is not working correctly.
The numbers from AnTuTu are:
Stock 2.3.5 - 6053
DJ ICS+ V1.0.3(2.3.6) - 4834
This is apparently not a full ICS build which is fine it has a good look and feel but it is at the expense of some performance.
So before the flames start, I am not complaining. Just merely pointing out some fact for anyone looking to some this or the new to be updates load(rom).
I would have posted this in the development forum but still don't have 10 posts.....
FWIW,
Rob

Your thread would have been deleted if your question had been posted at the development forums. That is why we have Q&A forums. This is the right place to ask you questions.
Please familiarize yourself with the XDA Forum Rules.
Good you didn't have 10 posts to make your question there yet, didn't you
Ok, being part of several forums that rule is certainly not intuitive.
So since this is the correct forum post how about a response?
Seems like the folks creating the ROM would be interested in the feedback and be best to provide some insight. Don't seem to be getting it here.....
Or did I miss the response?
Also, I read the rules and I did not see anything that would suggest that this post in the Developers Forums would have been removed. Do the rules change as the moderators deem fit???????

it has nothing to do with the ROM. it is a Touchwiz based rom and thus you will have the exact same issues as any other touchwiz based rom when it comes to your apps....
I was thinking of installing the gapps for the same reason. Not so much the apps for me, but on my AOSP phones/roms google saved all my wifi passwords that alone is worth checking out because I have a lot that are a pain in the ass to enter on a phone.

[Q] The "Reply All" function in SMS.

Sorry in advance if this has specifically been addressed. Doing a quick search didn't seem to cover it.
Is it possible for the experts here in XDA to write something into Android's code to allow for a Reply All feature in SMS, like in iPhone's SMS? I'm thinking the Reply All feature must be unfixable because there is conversations all over the internet for people requesting Google to fix it. Some have even stayed with Apple because they would miss that feature too much.
And why you're at it, build in emoticons. The emoticons are only available in 3rd party apps, like GoSMS Pro and Handcent, as far as I know.

Addressing the second question here...
Which emoticons are you referring to? You can already use all the regular emotes in an SMS. ;-)
You might want to take a look at alernative keyboards to make your emoticon chatting a little easier (swiftkey has quick buttons for emotes, for example).

This is not the place to request features. if what you are looking for is in gosms, use it. Not to come off as a d*ck but this isnt burger king, they dont have your rom your way right away.
If you were find code that would be usable for this feature, it would be a better way to present your request.
Ranting aside, i believe gosms also has the reply all feature if im not mistaken. Im not sure as i dont have an iphone to compare with. But i do use gosms as my sms replacement.

First off, I'm not requesting anything special in a ROM. My question was that if any of the bright developers have the knowledge to incorporate some of the emoticons into stock mms. Perhaps I should have stated emoji and not emoticons. The ones I'm referring to ARE the ones you find in GoSMS and Handcent, but it would be nice to just use the stock app instead of a 3rd party app to be able to get those. The ones those replying above are referring to basic emoticons (I know, I probably was asking for the wrong things) that can be type in using symbols. I too have been using GoSms and Handcent for the past 2 1/2 years and know that the Reply All feature in GoSMS will respond to all, but send out individual messages, thus breaking the conversation.
Maybe iPhone uses a code that isn't native to Android because I know those 2 platforms steal all they can from each other as it is.

I don't personally because i know well what the devs go through to get a rom out and be proud of it just to hear 'well can you do this?'. The best place would be a specific roms Q/A thread, because if you post in general then lets say optimistically 3 rom developers add the feature for you, you are only going to use one rom, thus 2 of the devs just wasted their time. Also it is far easier to just get an app that does what you want instead of bloating up android with moogly eye faces. Android after all is extremely modular and is all just a collection of apps. so asking to 'build in' is really just modifying an app so you dont have to spend 30secs to download one. like i said, if gosms does what you want, download it. because being that bloaty isnt for everyone so its easier to just leave it stock and let users download what they want to add to their phones.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=524
might also work better since you are looking for features that would not be phone specific.

My SPen Reset App

Hello. I wrote an app to deal with a problem with the SPen on my N7000 Samsung Note. Not sure if it will work on other Note models but would appreciate someone trying it out and telling me if it works on their device as well. Please see my original posting here. Thanks
Works well on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (N7100)

Works for me.
I don't own a note but I'm thinking of getting one, and therefore I know nothing of this issue, but it's nice to see that people are getting hands on to fix little niggles like this.
Would it be at all possible to run the script on a long press of the button on the stylus?

Well, I really like my Note phone so would encourage others Unfortunately, I am not sure about the actual S-Pen SDK since I have only glanced at it long enough to see nothing in it that would seem to do the job my program attempts to "fix". I actually just set things up to run automatically on a periodic basis and then I just do not have to worry about it at all. I am completing work now on a new version of the original program that incorporates this and some additional convenience features. Cheers!
Cool idea for an app but as far as I have seen, the Note 10.1 doesn't have a dominant hand setting.

You may well be right about this. I checked the manual located here and do not see any mention of that specifically. On my N7000 phone with Android 4.0.4, there is an entry under settings called Pen Settings. Under this there are options for Dominant hand and for Hovering pen icon. Seems slightly odd to me that this should not be available on a 10.1 but I really have no idea. RETIEF's reply (above) indicated that my app worked on his device (a GT N8013) so the underpinnings that my app requires seem to be there even if there otherwise it would show an error message. Thanks for the info.

App Now On App Store
I have paid Google and have posted this app on the Play Store. I have also been at work on a new version that will incorporate a more complete UI (easy to be more complete that what is in this version), scheduled operations, and the ability to toggle auto-rotate as well as dominant hand (as some sources claim this helps with issues related to landscape versus portrait mode). Thanks to all for your feedback as this has encouraged me to go further!
Hey thanks for your app, but I think it's not working for me (N8010 JB), ther is a message popup "Pen configuration file not found).

Thanks for your feedback. I have had another person with a Note 10.1 tell me the device lacks a setting for the pen's dominant hand (left/right) that the phones have. Not sure why this is the case. But if it does, the error message you received is exactly what should be displayed.
I cannot recall right now if the original apk, posted in the link referred to top of this thread had that check in it or not. Did you ever try that? And if so, did it appear to run and give a success message? If so, did you notice any improvement in the SPen's accuracy?
Thanks!

Thanks makiiiii! Let me ask if you experience any issues with the S-Pen in your tablet? If so, what are they. Perhaps there is some change I can make to bypass this issue and still help tablet users (since the tablets seem different than the phones). Thanks!
I'm getting not the same issue, but after some time the spen is just slowing down (drawn line way behind the spen), and when i'm writing, parts of letters/numbers are not recognized. This became more ugly since update to JB. (For me it looks like backgroud processes are producing spen inaccuracy, but maybe I'm wrong).
Thanks for your help!

Hello and thanks again for your test and feedback on this. I have another user of a Note II who is experiencing hangs when trying to run my app. He too is on a Note II and as I have only a N7000 with ICS I am having trouble helping out. Can you confirm:
(a) Is your firmware stock other than being rooted? If so, what is your firmware number? If not, what is your setup (which ROM, kernel, su program)?
(b) Have you tried the app as downloaded from the Play Store and did that work?
Thanks

Hello and thanks for this response. Can I confirm that:
(a) You ran this on a Note 10.1 tablet?
(b) It gave a success message after tapping the app's icon?
(c) Does your tablet's settings include a dominant hand setting (left/right)? Other users say their tablets do not which indeed would cause my app to give an error message (but not crash).
(d) What is the model number and firmware number of your tablet?
Thanks for your help with this.

A low priced version of this app is now available on the Play Market. It offers additional convenience and other features including scheduled background operation and suppression of success messages. If the free version works on your device, I hope you will consider the Pro version. Thanks!

[Q] Multiple questions about the Moto G

hi everybody!
sorry for the non-descriptive title, but i have some questions i'd like to ask here. i just got my moto g 2 days ago, i switched from a samsung galaxy s+ (with cm10.2) so this is quite the change for me, hardware and software wise.
[ANSWERED] 1. first i missed the possibility to swipe my keyboard to type, i found many different apps for that, but my question would be what is the keyboard included in cyanogenmod? because since this can 'see' everything i type i want an app for that i can trust...
[ANSWERED] 2. i really liked the cLock app for time and weather in cm, but google-ing 'clock app' wasnt the most helpful thing i've ever done ^^ so here my queston would be aswel whats the cyanogenmod cLock app and where can i find it?!
[ANSWERED] 3. next thing would be how can i get something like pdroid on this device (i had it on the sgs+)? i would need root i assume, i saw lots of different methods for that aswel. one with like contacting motorola to get the rom unlocked or something like that. so whats the easiest way to get a privacy control on the moto g? i remember something like the new android has some inbuilt setting for that?!?
[ANSWERED] 4. something that is irritating me quite a lot are the software keys, because samsung has the back key on the right side and the moto has it on the left side. also i dont understand why there would be a key for recent apps instead of a menu key. same here: i saw lots of different methods to change that, some even with adding or getting rid of lines of the code. ok i managed to install cm on my sgs, but thats a little out of my capabilities ^^ so again what would be the easiest way to change the buttons around?
[ANSWERED] 5. another thing would be, how do i turn off the vibration when using the keyboard? i tried the setting under 'sound' -> 'vibrate on touch' (or something along those lines) but that didnt turn off all of the vibration, for example its still vibrating when i use the keyboard but not anymore when i open apps or menus.
maybe there is even the possibility to install a stable version of cyanogenmod on the moto g which would solve most of my issues? but since this is running so smoothly i dont want any nightly builds, alphas or betas on this thing right now...
btw i am using the nova launcher in case that makes any difference for any of the questions above!?
also i include this screenshot with all the version numbers in it because it might be useful: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5JftqugO1xsbnh1dTBrQzZVWXc/edit?usp=sharing
thanks a bunch in advance and for reading and i hope someone is willing and able to help me out here!:fingers-crossed:

You can install the stock google keyboard from the play store for using swype, And there is cyangenmod version available for the G, you should go to the Moto G Original Android Development section of the forum for that. The vibration option should be in your sound / keyboard settings so you just need to look better i gues.

The vibration option should be in your sound / keyboard settings so you just need to look better i gues.

thanks again, sadly the play store says: 'This app is incompatible with all of your devices.' and it seems this is because of some kind of regional restrictions for this app and/or my country. i cant imagine what and why that would be but i cant download it from there, is there any other way to get this? like an .apk or something?

yea, thats what i was thinking after i posted my answer, sometimes my brain is in stupid mode *derp...
i found it here and i include the link for people with the same problem, the link is in german though:
http://www.androidnext.de/apps/google-keyboard-kitkat-tastatur-fuer-alle-geraete-apk-download/
and that works pretty good, thanks for the recommendation!
edit: i think i found the cLock app i was talking about, or a very similar one from the same developer it seems:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dvtonder.chronus
its a very nice clock and weather app, i can even do more (like calendar). thats 2 down 3 to go!

3. next thing would be how can i get something like pdroid on this device (i had it on the sgs+)? i would need root i assume, i saw lots of different methods for that aswel. one with like contacting motorola to get the rom unlocked or something like that. so whats the easiest way to get a privacy control on the moto g? i remember something like the new android has some inbuilt setting for that?!?
4. something that is irritating me quite a lot are the software keys, because samsung has the back key on the right side and the moto has it on the left side. also i dont understand why there would be a key for recent apps instead of a menu key. same here: i saw lots of different methods to change that, some even with adding or getting rid of lines of the code. ok i managed to install cm on my sgs, but thats a little out of my capabilities ^^ so again what would be the easiest way to change the buttons around?

I suggest to install Xposed framework (Root needed), and then you can have this features with Gravity Box and Xprivacy (these are modules for Xposed).
In order to root, you have to unlock the bootloader (follow the instruction on Motorola website), then install a Custom recovery (I suggest Philz one) and supersu from Play store

hi and thank you for your contribution! i have unlocked and rooted my device successfully and installed the xposed framework. i havent quite got the hang of how xprivacy works as of now since its a little different from pdroid (and somewhat confusing imo). but thats just a matter of time i guess. i'll start reading here: https://github.com/M66B/XPrivacy#xprivacy or is there a better quick start guide?
i assume i can uninstall the 'xprivacy installer' (the one from google play) after i installed 'xprivacy'? and that gravity box is for the softkeys and its this one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554049 ? i'll look into that tomorrow, since its getting late here and i dont wanna mess up now ^^
thanks again!

Mornin', you're very welcome!
Xprivacy it's kind of complicated, but that reading will help you. I admit I don't use it, but I know it gives you full control on privacy and this is what you were looking for As you said, it's just a matter of time!
Btw you can install modules directly from Xposed Installer application, so you can bypass the Play Store.
Yes that's gravity box: it's very good and popular, you can surely reverse/set all the software keys, but also do a lot of modding!
It's more intuitive than Xprivacy, just go ahead options and try them, it's safe!
Good luck and forgive my english!

i am no native english tongue myself, so i dont notice anything wrong with your english. no need to excuse, i make mistakes myself.
i was under the impression that you could do 'stupid' stuff with xprivacy, like i was able to deny my camera app access to the camera with pdroid. that was a good way to test if it was properly working. so i tried and deny firefox access to 'internet' but that didnt seem to work, but then again it especially said its no going to break apps. i dig into all of this further later on.
just a question, what would be a good way to verify it is working like its supposed to? talking about xprivacy here...
edit: and to answer my question no.5: there is another setting for vibration in the keyboard itself, so you have to go through -> language and input -> select settings on your keyboard -> vibrate on key push (or sth along those lines), so basically you have to turn it off twice.

Yeah, of course! I thought you managed this already! Keyboard is like an app itself, and has its own settings (i.e. vibration)
so i tried and deny firefox access to 'internet' but that didnt seem to work

I just tried it and i had no problem to deny the access for Firefox. When you open xprivacy in the app list tap on the Firefox Logo, not on the name or the checkbox. If you do so the details will open. If you now tick the category "Internet" then you will see that it is checked as a square, not as a hook. If it is a square it is only partially blocked. If you go now into the details of the category "Internet", you will see, that not all options are checked. Some are even marked red because they might be essential for the functionalty of the specific app. If you check also these and maybe also all others, then you can prevent Firefox of getting access to the Internet. If you check all items in Internet manually you'll see that category internet has now a hook than a square.
but then again it especially said its no going to break apps.

You can check for example all outgoing connections to the internet from your device. I have not tested this tool, or similar like that, but i will now because i just had the idea Else you can also prevent Facebook app to connect. I use Auto Hide Softkey App. I can for example prevent that it uses the overlay function, so it can not modify the UI and hide the Navbar.
Xprivacy is a very powerful tool. If you want it more simple, you can activate the in Android but Disabled inbuilt AppOPS App (search for AppOPS). But it is also less powerful.
I bought xprivacy. If you buy it, you can download the restrictions automatically and upload yours for others. You are also able to export end import the settings if licensed. Also nice that you can buy it via Paypal because i do not have a Credit Card (and i don't want).
but google-ing 'clock app' wasnt the most helpful thing i've ever done ^^

Try "best android clock apps" "List of android clocks" and so on, there are dozens.
maybe there is even the possibility to install a stable version of cyanogenmod on the moto g which would solve most of my issues? but since this is running so smoothly i dont want any nightly builds, alphas or betas on this thing right now...

My friend, you are really funny
Cyanogenmod just got a snapshot Status few days ago. It is one step ahead being a nightly and to steps behind beeing stable
Hope that helps.

Oh and for some settings you do you also have to restart your phone. But actually it will tell you to do so by displaying a toast.

thanks for the explanation! i clicked on the firefox logo but i didnt know you can go even deeper into each section for permissions, that explains it!

well you explained it yourself pretty much, the app was designed to not break apps in the way they work but restrict them from your privat data. so when i clicked firefox'es internet permission and it had the square, i disabled some but not all of it. thats all i was saying

i wasnt on my computer for quiet some time so i couldnt answer on this thread, my apologies.
i bought the pro version of xprivacy with paypal too and i synced my permissions for all apps with the cloud or crowd. it could find and sync most of my apps which is a nice and easy way to get around the ridiculous amount of permissions to set for each app.
can you confirm that most of the synced crowd settings make sense in the way of privacy protection? because i havent looked too much into all those settings but even when i did i couldnt quiet understand them in depth...
also @Landrea thanks for recommending gravity box, that thing is amazing! i was able to restore most of the cyanogenmod settings i was missing, great! also i could reconfigure my softkeys, but i am thinking about this app here to maximize my usable screensize:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.hidesoftkeys
or
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.tsorn.FullScreen
or is there a setting for that in gravity box i missed?

You're welcome!
Check navigation bar settings in gravity box, you can change the size of the soft keys and gain space.
Go for that apps if you think you need more usable screensize (hard to believe)
