Hello, I am hoping someone can help me because I'm about to test out my 2 year square trade spill and drop (SMASH) warranty if not.
I've had my infinity for about a week and a half without ever having any issues. I rooted it about a week ago, which was impressively simple.
Today, after being pestered every 10 minutes about this BS update even after postponing it for 1 day multiple times I finally gave in and hit update. My prime reset, went to the animated android screen with the spinning icon in his belly. The progress bar finished and then the screen went black.
I walked away for a couple of minutes and came back it was still off. Now every time I try to turn it on I get no response. If I hold power approximately 10 seconds it vibrates, but still absolutely no screen response. I tried holding volume down and power, same thing. I've tried any combination of volume buttons with power, still just a vibrate after 10 seconds and nothing. WTF!?!?
I HATE THESE F#CKING UNNECESSARY UPDATES!
Asus, I'm very disappointed in you right now!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Have you tried plugging it in to the wall charger and letting it sit for a few hours before trying again?
I tried starting it plugged in earlier with no response, but I just replugged it in and I'm going to wait a bit before touching it. It was about 90% charged when I started the update.
The Amber charge light is on. If my memory serves right it changes green when fully charged, so I'll try again when the light changes.
Thanks for reply.

I had that issue with my prime. Something a little different though. I was using my camcorder one day taking video of my son. Got a freeze up, had to reboot. After that, I was able to hit power or hold it I should say for 10 seconds and it would vibrate but the screen never came back on.
I ended up RMA'ing it, only to find that the motherboard failed on it and had to be replaced.
I suspect your board is bad as well. Sorry dude, I know how it feels... asus quality control sux on their lineup. Always has, and probably always will.
Get a needle, put it in the hole on top of the mini HDMI port.
After putting the needle in and then trying to start it up it vibrates within 2 seconds of holding power, which seemed more normal to me. However the screen never turned on, just black screen and then if I try again it vibrates apprx 10 seconds after hold. I have tried again, same results. Battery is fully charged...
Thanks for the help guys, but I'm thinking it's toast, and I'm very disappointed. The thing is i normally never ota, and wouldn't if it had just postponed 24 hours at a time like it had given as an option. I was waiting on aokp to drop before I unlocked and rom'd it out.
I'm probably just going to return it to Amazon... I was going to have it replaced, but I'm now reconsidering waiting on something better to drop. QC seems to be an issue with Asus lately, and since I sold my laptop to pay for my infinity this is becoming a major inconvenience that I'm not trying to deal with again. I was reading on here somewhere a guy had gone through 5 or 6 of them.
I've been building computers for friends and family for more than a decade now and I've always bought Asus mobo's, and never had issues or complaints about them. I think I'll be reconsidering that loyalty next time I have a build.

My prime did that... The tablet vibrates but no screen... Tried even connecting the computer and it saw the tablet. Had to RMA it to get it fixed... then a month later the tablet wouldnt charge.. RMAed again to fix... If I were you return it for a new one or go for a different brand.
Just bricked mine too. OTA failed with dying android, then reboot only to first Asus screen. I can get into recovery but factory reset completed and same thing, only first Asus screen. I think I might be able to flash .26 from the Asus site since I'm still locked but internet is so show it will take 7 hours to download the file.
Edit: update zip in recovery worked. I think it is time to unlock since it is obvious Asus can't get there stuff straight.
I had the same problem with my first Infinity. I called the Asus support, but the guy had absolutely no idea and told me to RMA it.
I returned it to Amazon and got a new one.

Same story here. Last time it worked was the animation screen during the ota update last night. Get the vibration sensor as expected after holding power button or resetting with paper clip, but nothing on the screen, ever.
Got the RMA and shipping it in the morning. I bought it from newegg the week released so need to do warranty.

Hey everyone.
I just got a brand-new G-Tablet through Sears. I'm checking here to see if anyone has any ideas before their tech support opens in ~two hours.
I got it to my office, plugged it in and charged it until the light turned green. Then I turned it on and played with it a bit. I didn't have a method to put it on the network right then to sync anything, so I really just poked around and then set it to the side. One thing to note is that I wasn't presented with a setup screen at all, it booted straight to home.
Then later that afternoon when I went to go home, it wouldn't power on. I'm not sure if it went to sleep or powered off, but nothing happens no matter what button combination I press. I've tried just pressing power, holding it down for 4 seconds, holding it down for 30 seconds, power and volume + at the same time, and power and volume - at the same time.
I tried hooking it up to my computer last night, thinking that maybe the display didn't come back from sleep and maybe I could force a reboot via ADB, but it must be off alltogether since it didn't trigger a USB installation on the computer.
When I plug it in to charge, the little light turns red, then a while later turns green, indicating that it is fully charge, yet still no joy.
Your thoughts?
Press the power button for a really long time to see.

Just held it down for 90 seconds, no dice. I tried pressing it briefly afterwards too just in case.
I think Roebeet and a few others had a similar issue. I believe they had to wait 24+ hours for the battery to drain. I can't find the thread but the search button may help
You didn't update the firmware, correct? This is a known issue with the older firmware and it's happened to me.
I believe that the device is frozen - and yes, when it gets in that state you cannot reset it, even when holding down the power button. You have two choices, when this happens:
1- Open up the back of the device (and thus voiding the warranty) and press the reset button on the system board. That will fix it immediately. I know this probably isn't the best option, but I wanted to mention it.
2- Unplug the device and wait for the battery to completely drain. This takes about 24 hours. Once drained, you can press the power button and it will boot up for 10-15 seconds before stopping - that's your queue that the device is "fixed" so you can start re-charging it.
Fortunately, this probably seems to be resolved on newer firmware, tmk. I've only had this happen on a device with the original stock firmware.
The two of you are gentlemen and scholars. I'll let you know how it turns out. I was on the phone to get the RMA when the line went all fuzzy and I couldn't talk to them. Then it did the same thing when I called back. Then I saw this post. Divine Intervention...
Going on 28 hours now and still nothing...I'll probably give it at least 3 days before I send it back.
Give it a few more hours, and then plug it in for a minute and try powering it up. the battery could be so drained at this point that it needs to be plugged in to go on.
Mine took 24 hours to drain, but I wasn't sure if it was at 100% charged, at the time.
Almost to the 48 hours mark and still nothing. I tried plugging it in briefly just to check and the red light still comes on, but it won't power up. Anyone know the possible standby time of a fully charged batter on these things? I was thinking if the system locked up and it isn't hardly doing anything, it could last a while...
Maybe a return to the store you purchased it from at this point. The battery should be dead by now. You should be able to get an exchange or you can try the other route Roebeet suggested but that will definitely void your warranty

The problem is that I'm in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Shipping time is at least 2 weeks and sears won't do an advance replacement. Neither will the Viewsonic support folks. So I'm either stuck having to buy a second one and waiting for them to get the original back before the refund, or waiting a month or more for a repair...
Are there any seals inside the case that get broken if you open it?
I don't know the answer but this may be of some help

Sorry to hear that. I think the reset button on the board would have worked, but I understand why you wouldn't want to open the device up. We shouldn't have to void our warranty to be able to do a hard reset.

But was your friend's responding at all? I get absolutely nothing. the only thing the tablet does is give me a red light when it's charging and a green light when it's done. The power button does nothing and volume down + power does nothing. doesn't nvflash require a connection over USB before it can do anything?
I'm getting fed up with this Transformer. It's been 3 days now since it went into the ultimate sleep of death and won't boot up for the life of it. Nothing. I've tried everything and no matter what it won't show any sign of life.
I've tried all possible combinations:
power for 40 seconds (even minutes at a time) = nothing
power + volume up = nothing
power + volume down = nothing
plugged into keyboard dock and above combinations = nothing
plugged into PC and above combinations = nothing
inserting and removing microSD and all of the above combinations = nothing
UGH.
What else can I do???
(Rooted w/stock ICS).
Drain your battery, give it a trickle charge for 10 mins, unplug it, hold power for 15 seconds plugging in as you do that.
If that doesn't work, purchase a cardboard box and some packing foam and RMA that guy Dx
great, this just happened to me. how do i discharge the battery if i can't get it to start?
does anyone else know if/how this can be fixed before i try an RMA?
any sod's ive had ive just held down the power button and made sure its definately off,
then plugged it into the mains powered charger and held the power button down until its came on. Usually pretty instant power on and reboot.
It's been about a month now and the damn thing still won't boot up. Not showing any signs of life and I'm 2 months over my 1 year warranty. Ugh...
Gonna see if Asus has any sort of support, or if this will be my last Asus product ever.

First, if your TF is stuck in boot you will not know since screen is dead. Youv should first hold power button for more than a minute to make it completely shut down. Then hold powerbutton to wake it up.
But after month, if it was struck in boot your battery is probably drained. Did you try an overnight charge while you sleep?
Btw, you did notsay how you got fried? What we're you doing?
My sympathies. I know that ugly feeling when your tab refuses to boot.

That post says it all. Well it is an RMA. It is possible it is a bad battery.
But ASUS is very good about Rma since I have done two RMAs and they were very easy. It just takes time, like 2 weeks. Dont worry about custom Rom, since they blindly wipe everything.
Good luck!

Tried that. Still nothing.
I RMA'd it today. Here's hoping they'll take care of it even though I'm 2 months over warranty.
Otherwise I give up the Asus brand altogether.
Looking at the Prime forums, many people having issues too. I also have (2) 25.5" Asus PC Monitors and one of them crapped out on me - also about 2 months over warranty. I'm beginning to associate Asus with Acer in terms of quality.

Sorry to hear of ur headches! Two months out of warranty........would like to hear your feedback
Asus e.mailed me last night. It would appear that I somehow managed to get water damage and the screen and motherboard needs to be replaced. They want $511 to fix it. Considering that's more than the tablet is worth, I'm SOL.
No idea how it could've gotten water damage, but they did send pics to prove it. Ugh.
Im having the same issue.
Was just going about my buisness using my tab as normal and all the sudden it went black. That was a couple days ago....have tried everthing and yet still nothing. Sorry to hear anyone else has to deal with this...it really sucks!
It might be completely unrelated but i had a problem where my tf101 looked completely dead but it was stuck in apx mode although this was after a failed nvflash attempt. If it can be detected by apx mode on the pc simple reflash might be the answer
HI guys,
So I'm posting this as a vain last resort hoping that someone has had an issue like this before (and resolved it..)
I've had a tf700 for 6 months now. Never had any major issues with it hardware-wise.
About a month ago I got tired of waiting on Asus to update the firmware (and do something about the dreaded lag) so I unlocked and started using CM10.1 nightlies. Everything was vastly sweeter!
Yesterday, tablet was around 50% charge so I plugged it in for the train ride home. 10 minutes later I went to unlock it and ...nothing..nada...zip.
I figured it had locked up so I tried a soft reset. Then i noticed there was no indicator light even though it was plugged in.
Cue an increasingly desperate sequence of trying ever reset option I could find:
Power for 10, 20, 30, 60 secs... nothing.
Power + down vol... nothing.
Power + up vol... nothing.
Pinhole Reset button... nothing.
Plugged into pc ... nothing (not detected by PC)
Checked the charger was working on the dock ... all OK there.
Tried docking the tablet .. no effect.
Tried charging through the dock ... nothing.
Tried leaving it plugged in overnight... nothing.
Basically, there is no sign of life at all (including charging indicator light).
I'm presuming I'll have to go down the RMA route but thought I'd throw it out there for opinions / suggestions.
Thanks
Orko
Ouch.
When not even the charging light comes up... I think you indeed have an RMA to call in. I'm sorry for your loss.
Today I also have the same problem.
On the train on my way to my work i read my newspaper on my tablet, put it of to go to my work, 10 minutes later when I push the power to put it on, NOTHING.
Long press, even everything listed above, nothing happens even no charging led.
I have put cleanrom on the tablet and that worked fine, no more lag much faster, nog random reboots, but now I don't have any warrenty because it is unlocked.
I am really dissapointed now, buying a new one without unlocking is really no option because the standaard TF700 is way too slow.
700 euro waisted...

Mine was in my office..... Plugged in to a surge protector for good measure.
I see some painful (and expensive) RMA action in my future
This just happened to me as well. I plugged it in last night, and when I went to use it today... nothing. Completely unresponsive, no charging light indicator or anything. Though mine was completely stock, still locked and un-rooted.
Funny that earlier this morning, I had a crack;ing sound from my unit as well, and it acted up afterward. I ascribed it to fooling around with H's kernel too enthusiastically -- I sincere hope we haven't gotten an epidemic of fried Infinities on our hands. The digital equivalent of the zombie apocalypse. :S
Wow another user pm'ed me yesterday with the exact same issue. Unit just died. No power to boot.

Mine went into a bootloop. I struggled to get out of it, because most of my files reside on the microSD and not on internal storage (some older files and backups live there). I was on data2sd initally, but decided to flash normally to determine the problem (suspecting a damaged partition on the microSD) -- the moment I removed the microSD card, the unit would boot fine, but after inserting it again, bootloop. I only saw the very first ASUS logo, before the revolving circle comes up, for just a few seconds, and reboot -- rinsed and repeated that sequence a few times while I was recovering my jaw from the floor. Whenever I flashed the data2sd mod for CROMI, I was screwed, obviously. I have flashed over a dozen times -- one of the definitions of clinical insanity is repeating behaviour while expecting a different outcome every time. You go figure. Fortunately, it was only temporary (at least, I'd like to think so, thank you!).
In the end, I ended up keeping a normal and perfectly functional install, for I still had the 2.5h commute to home from the night shift -- yes, this was towards the end of a night shift :S -- so I could at least read for a bit.
After fomatting everything yet again -- including giving the microSD a digital meltdown with gParted -- I finally got it working again, although I lost nearly all new data since the last backup. Those were mostly pictures from Reddit (earthp*rn, anyone?) and some TED talks, so while extremely annoying, it's not like I have lost pictures of my children or something...
Whew... It sure was an exciting day. Off to sleep now. G'night, people!
wtf? that is strange indeed. I thought it was just a bad power source but the surge protector post threw me off. that sucks, if there is a digital ghost running around which I wouldnt doubt, better keep your tabs protected. I also have heard my tablet crack and pop a coulpe of times since havig flashed multiple roms and kernels on it but nothing with the on mechanism breaking. maybe try going to one of those electronic fixer upper places nd see if they can open it up and see what components got fried
*Caution with the overclocking to everyone that's trying it.
Download and install an app that keeps an eye on processor temps.
My tablet runs hot OC'ed so I got in the habit of watching out for extremes.
Wel,
My kernel is TF700: Clemsyn 1.5 - 1.8ghz 650GPU Kernel and I use it always on 1.5ghz.
when It happened it was not connected to a charger, I just put it of on the train and tried to put it on 10 minutes later.
I don't do anything special with my tablet, just reading pdf, newspaper, foto's mail and facebook.
I always put it in a pretective sleeve, I always handle it with care.
And now just SUDDEN DEATH the only way I can call it, because I did not do anything special.
I would like to remove the battery, I kinow for smartphones when nothing happens then a removal of the battery helps. But can't do that here.
:crying:
Is there no way you can make the battery empty so it will do a reset ?

TF700 dead
I have the same problem. My infinity is unlocked so the warranty is void. One day it just turned off. It will not charge. No charge light. I've tried everything listed here but nothing. I tried a new charge cable, nothing. I even replaced the battery, still nothing. Disappointing for sure. I guess I'll keep it around until someone finds a cure. I'm gonna have to replace it, but definitely not anything else Asus.
My Infinity died too. After unlocking and rooting, I flashed the cleanrom with the 1,8ghz kernel. Everything was fine when I booted for the first time. Used the balanced profile to start with, but since the device felt very laggy and slow, I tried the normal profile. Didn't help, so I tried rebooting it with the new reboot menu I got on the powerbutton. Then the Infinity died. No charging light, no nothing. I ran it for about 10 min on the balanced, and like 5 min on the normal profile.
Mine died with about 30% battery. I clicked a notification and it went black. No charging light. No USB sound from PC when connected. No vibrate. Nothing. Was about 4 days from bestbuy return window closing. Returned no problem.
It was rooted and running stock kernal and had only been on for a few minutes.

Rom: CleanRom 3.4.4
I was just using it normally today,
The battery was down to some 23%, charged it a bit to aprox 40%
then suddenly every locked up, and it went dim, and then dead
I plugged it into the Quick charger (original HTC factory and original cable), and it's still unresponsive.
it was rooted and running Viper ROM 1.4
Currently it's cold as ice, normally while charging it should be Warm.
Tried the Button Down + Power Button for 15 sec, many times unsuccessfully.
Normally that will bring it back from whatever lock up, but this time nothing, totally unresponsive.

it wont even turn on.
I was with HTC tech support for the past hour, and we tried everything.
so, now it's going straight for warranty
it wont charge, it wont turn on, it doesn't accept any of the known keys combinations to get it into the download mode.
the weird thing is that everything was working just fine and normal, until moments before I left office.
it was hard to turn on, so i though oh no problem, I'll just restart it.
Restart it went, it came back, but then shortly later it went again into that annoying deep sleep mode, and was able to bring it back on, once more
but by the time I walked from the office to the car, the phone turned off again, and it remained dead since then.
apparently it's a "Known Issue" since it's in the most asked FAQ list in HTC support help page.
hmm... funny they just hid that FAQ, and replaced it with http://www.htc.com/ca/contact/produ...ent=GUID-780CE6E8-1156-4527-8980-445582D60A70

That's the thing that sucks
it's already after 30 days, so they can't do a straight swap
that means i'll need to mail it in for warranty repair, which takes several weeks, plus the shipping back and forth that's at least 6 to 8 weeks down time

Return period in Germany is only 14 days so I had to take the warranty repair as well.

That's the thing that sucks
it's already after 30 days, so they can't do a straight swap
that means i'll need to mail it in for warranty repair, which takes several weeks, plus the shipping back and forth that's at least 6 to 8 weeks down time

I think if you make enough noise at the support or escalate it maybe through Social media, then they might send you a replacement device instead of a repair. Sometimes these support centers would have escalation processes in place for such situations but won't really honor it until the customer start making noise. Especially HTC would try and minimize bad PR.
Yesterday the same happend to me.
I had the feeling that the battery connector wasn't properly connected/disconnected, so I searched for a picture to see if by pushing on the back of my device i could reconnect the battery connector (see this pic and this pic). Luckily this worked for me so now i can backup my data and exchange it (also luckily, im still within the voluntary 14 day returning period of my provider).
Hope this helps someone else too.
Mine is gone 2 days ago too.
When I woke up in the morning, I saw it's still on the charger, but soon I found the device is gone and I checked some log (I have configured Syncthing to do some backup to my PC, unfortunately, I only paired the device but no task is configured yet.) and found the device is just gone around I woke up.
Tried all combinations including vol+ & vol- & PWR for 30secs~2mins, none of them work. Pressing around battery connector doesn't work still.
Its cold as a brick. No response when I plug it to my MacBookAir, but shown as an unknown device on my Windows7 Desktop.
Now I'm waiting for it self recovery since I still not backed up my internal storage yet, and my data won't be guarantee if I send it back to HTC.
No solution yet. Just an echo for the topic.
A small update.
So, after I sent it in for Repair... damn HTC finally fixed the phone and send it back to me after 6 months.
The worst experience ever.
I got the same issue as well. My phone just went dead on me today. It does response to anything at all. May I know from those who experienced before what is the cause of the problem? What did the service center do to help out?
Happened to me today. After having it 5 months, warranty exchange.
Mine HTC U 11 turned off since 23-01-2019. Not charging . not turning. Nothing is working. I am from India. I could not find any authorized service center for HTC here too. .
What to do now.
Please suggest me what to. If any one can.

So I was able to get my hands on a new 8gb/512gb matte black version of this. Was setting up the phone, updated to Android 10 first before transfering sms, call logs and updating apps. Went to turn off the phone to insert my SIM card and now the phone won't turn on. It vibrates every time I press the power button but then nothing. Currently it's connected to the supplied charger with the LED light lit red. It was already charging while I was using it, had about 70% battery before I switched it off. I've tried volume down + power button for 10 seconds, LED light turns off and it vibrates, and it keeps vibrating every 10 seconds when it's connected to the charger (doesn't keep vibrating when it's not connected). Can feel the area between the fingerprint reader and camera pretty hot during this. Volume up + power doesn't work either. Any ideas?
Try pressing and holding all three.
Power + vol up + vol down. Should force a reboot.

No response. Not even a vibrate.
That is unfortunate. I had this multiple times. Black screen but phone was on. Just did not react to power button or screen did not turn on. The button combo helped.
Only other idea I have is to let the battery run out. If the phone is even on in your case.
How could you tell if the phone was actually on? Could you receive calls or something?
And this was on your Zenfone 6 too?
I've left it off charge for the last 5 days now. I don't think it's gonna run flat soon, considering that it's not even on.
I think I will send it back to the seller (Taiwan!) tomorrow
The notification led was blinking. Yeah on zf6. It stopped happening a few month ago. Probably fixed in a few update. But yours seems to be a different problem.

I am not sure where, but I think when I was trying to fix my hard bricked Z6, some post said that a red LED without any other notion from the phone means that you may be able to get this running in QD-Loader mode - check this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-6-2019/how-to/qdloader-brick-t3980165
Can you get the phone to register as a COM-device?

My post on here: recognised as an Android ADB Interface but I can't do an adb reboot as "device not found"

Thanks for this. I actually saw this a few days ago but was reluctant to try as I'm worried it might void the warranty.

Try again the Power + vol up + vol down combo, but hold it 30 secs. If still does not reboot, get worried...

I did hold them for 1 minute and no response before. Is there a specific order which they should be pressed and held?
No, no order. Just all pressed together at once. I think you should return the phone. Last year there was a similar issue with an update and many phones had to be returned, but it was solved.
If the combo don't reboot the phone I would return it. I don't want to give them excuses not to honor the guarantee.

It was never solved. It's still happening even to new ASUS phones.
To OP: Return the phone immediately. Your mobo is 95% dead. It's a hardware issue so trying to fix that is not worth losing the warranty.

Yeah so weird as I only did an OTA firmware update from the shipped Android 9 to Android 10. It installed successfully and rebooted once. But only died once I shut it down. Was there a thread about it?

Yeah it actually just got back to Taiwan yesterday. Seller is being annoying though and not wanting to send me a replacement. But instead wanting to refund me and then asking me to repurchase (at a potentially higher price like seriously -_-).
Such a hassle.

might be you received damaged Cell because I faced the same issue when I bought LG G4 Cell, Seller told it was new but after I sent to Service Center they told its repaired cell and not new, it was motherboard issue, so might be you also picked up cell like that, other I never faced any problem in Asus 6z since I bought last year

They refunded me and couldn't get stock of a new one. The repair centre apparently can't fix it either lol.
Anyway it's a blessing in disguise as I'm gonna buy the Zenfone 7 or 7 Pro now.

Yes..Nice Choice, Hope Asus 7 Series Price not like onePlus & others
Same thing just happened to my wife's phone. She received an OTA update from ASUS which resulted in her phone rebooting itself during the night and getting stuck at the ASUS splash screen totally unresponsive.
I waited for the battery to die and after charging the phone powered up. It lasted 12 hours before suddenly shutting itself down when the wife was changing settings to pull the time from the network.
Now dead as a brick. Charge light no longer lights. Totally unresponsive. No amount of power button/volume button combination or time will do anything to make it work again.
Pretty pissed off as it was purchased early Sep last year and has already been sent back to ASUS in Taiwan for the USB charge port board replacement. Now 1 yr and 17 days old.
I do not know what to do now except push for a repair under warranty.
Nearly on the day when my warranty went out the ZenFone did it to.Used Bluetooth to my headphones and suddenly it went dead for good. Was reading that others on the net had the same problem and guess its a major built in fault on a rather expensive phone when i bought it. Got a new phone of a different brand and will for sure never return to any Asus phones when quality aint a strong word for that brand. Over and out.
Wow. I was looking at these phones but there are issues it seems.
Rule #1 if your OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission...
Do Not Update!
This goes double for carrier phones. AT&T for example can wreck your user experience with their later updates.
With Pie and above security isn't an issue unless you do something stupid.
Don't get sucker in by scare hype.
Always redundantly backup critical data to at least 2 hdds and always be ready to reload. Reload if you can't resolve a malware issue asap. Cover your ass...ets
