I struggled with the SGN10.1 until I found the setting to increase the font from Normal to Large (my eyes are bad). Didn't need the Huge setting. Some apps rendered strange, but most were great. But Words With Friends just bellied up and died. The app would freeze every time I tried to open. I reinstalled several times, cleared cache, powered off, basically did everything I could think of, several times. Then, I reset my Settings font to normal, and the app started properly and was back to normal. I tested Large font, and WWF broke again. This is repeatable.
There are several apps that replace the system fonts, but they seem severe. Any ideas? My only choice is to deinstall WWF so I can use the larger font. But then it could be a slippery slope, deinstalling apps that wont load.
Thanks, k.

Have you emailed zynga? Maybe they can help, and if they don't you could try word feud. I feel like there are less ads and you can even buy that one to avoid ads
No, I haven't emailed Zynya because I wasn't sure if it was some setup option on the Note. And playing with anything that isn't a user setup option makes me nervous. For now, I increased the default size of "Normal" on the browser, and used the "Stretch to fit" option when available on the apps. Thanks for your reply

Hello,
I read through most of the posts concerning custom launchers but still can't find an answer to my problem.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S running on Froyo. I am trying to set GoLauncher as my default launcher but there seems to be a hickup somewhere.
When I hit the home button a window always pops up asking me which launcher I want to use (TW or Go) and I always tick the box underneath to use as default and then select GoLauncher but the window keeps popping up again every time I press the home key.
I also tried to clear the defaults in both TW and Go Launcher but the buttons are grayed out...so I guess the phone does not store my default choice.
Any ideas?

I have the same problem using htc desire z running froyo 2.3.. not rooted.
Have tried re installing. Tried home switcher. tried other launcher than go launcher ex. Problem still persists..
If anyone has made it work for them. Please share what to do.
Thx
Well.. for me the problem was with the 3D camera app.. for some reason it showed up on the bottom of the list of launcher.. unistalled and presto.. no constant settings launcher as default
Via HTC Desire Z
Have tried everything in this post and none have worked for very long.
I am going to try seeing if the Estrongs "Suite" is installed and causing a problem, but I definitely know this isn't a launcher problem as this happens with several different launchers...I thought it was a HTC Sense issue, but I have now seen (I think) a couple of posts from a Samsung device.
I have the Thunderbolt and since the 2.3.4 update, I have had the same problem. I have read several posts, but no real solution. The Homesmack didn't work. This Really sounds like an HTC issue, but I am still trying to read more posts.
Did you try doing a battery pull? Or going into settings and clearing the stock launchers data and cache?

Solution
I have Samsung Galaxy S2 -
Applications - Manage Applications - [All] - TWLauncher - Clear Defaults
I think there's also an App called "Launcher" but look for anything with the word "Launcher" in it and clear the defaults
Or try installing "Go Locker" and it'll ask you again which one you want your default to be
Hi guys,
Since the AOSP ICS builds I noticed that when the Phone app is not in memory it opens very slow. The next time you open it is almost instant. I thought that it would be fixed in the OTA, and even if it is a little faster it is still quite frustrating sometimes. Tried many roms/kernels and even if in some configurations it open faster, it is still slow.
Since I dont use the Phone that much, almost every time that I use it it is not in the memory and it is slow. Anyone has an idea to fix it, like a hack to make it persistent in the memory?
Thanks.
Bump. Is there a way to keep it in memory ? Maybe giving it a special permission like the launcher will help. I will take a look...

This is my only problem with ICS - I've tried a few memory management programs to see if I could keep the dialer, or contacts, persistent in memory, but nothing works. When I launch the dialer, the application 'Contacts' ('com.android.contacts', which seems to be the new ICS 'People' app) is shown as an 'active application' in my 'SystemPanel' app off the Market, and as long as that stays as an active app then the dialer usually re-launches straight away when pressed the next time, sometimes with only a small bit of lag if the screen has been of for a minute or two. When the 'contacts' app is shut down by the system, I guess when you open other apps up that need memory, the dialer lags again.
All the time, the process 'Phone' ('com.android.phone') seem to be sitting there as an 'Internal System Process' and seems to be persistent, but that alone doesn't make the dialer launch quickly, the 'contacts' app needs to be active as well.
My observations, but I am not a techie.
actually i recently read a thread here on XDA that addressed this issue. it involved a command on the terminal that allowed you to prioritize certain apps. too bad i can't seem to find that thread anymore!
found it! it involves using the Renice command. you can run it as an init.d script
or demo it out using the prioritzer apk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224125) kind thanks to this developer for creating the app. it works great!
all i did, was set the phone and contact app to -20 priority. it loads MUCH faster... try it and report back.
here are more links related to renice

Great, thanks for coming back on this, this sounds interesting - I'm not rooted at the moment, I will look into doing this as I think it would be worth it just to sort out this problem, as well as the other benefits. I will report back with my results!
I decided not to root in order to fix this, I've gone a different way with the dialer - exDialer has a polished looking ICS theme and I installed that to see how it would work, and it works great. It opens up consistently quicker, maybe due to the 'Keep in Memory' option that it has. I haven't had one laggy episode with it yet. Most other third party dialers don't look so good but this has a great ICS look, has smart dial, and a great call history function, and it's free (or you can donate as I did). Worth a look for anyone having similar problems.
I would still go back to the stock dialer if it worked properly, maybe a future update will solve this without having to root.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Desire S has more RAM.
Mine opens up instantly however. Have you rebooted after installing the rom?
I remember on GB it was instant! On ICS it is indeed very slow. Hopefully JB fixes it...

Same here if not in memory, i can easily notice certain lag on ics roms on my phone, when opening certain apps.
Yeah i did.
Hm Sounds like i have to live with it, or does someone have an alternative way to Set the priority for apps. The one mentioned earlier does Not work for me.

Thanks for the suggestion to try exDialer. The phone lag was really irritating me and this did the trick. With ics dark theme, it's a perfect complement to bugles beast. Hopefully this will be fixed in 4.1, but till then ...

anyone else have this where every so often, maybe 1 out of 10 times, when i hit home from an app or something, i get the MyTouch logo for like 2 seconds and then a little notification box that says Loading... for probably 3 or 4 seconds, before the home screen comes up? just thought it was weird since most of the time it doesn't have to load to get to the home screen.
thanks
I use to get that all the time, when i changed my launcher it stopped doing that, this makes me believe that its a bug

Do you use a task killer?
If so that's why.
This is caused by Android not being ready to show your homescreen, so either you were using a very resource intensive app, have a couple resource heavy apps running, an app is coded poorly, or you are using a task killer and screwed up the data for some of your apps.
What version of what are you running? That may help pinpoint your problem.
Sent from my Bulletproof_Doubleshot using xda premium
no task killers, i hate those, they do more harm than good although the phone comes with a task killer of its own in the quick settings i dont use it. i dont really put apps in the background, im always trying to save memory when i can so i completely close every app when im finish with it mostly happens when exiting from dolphin hd. Also all my apps are on the latest version and so is my os.
my old g2 couldn't survive without a taskkillers. not gonna get into the whole taskkiller vs no taskkiller debate. i've read all the articles and it simply wasn't true for me. they helped alot.
that being said though i have no taskkiller. and i'm not using any custom launcher and i'm not rooted. just using a stock mytouch4g. i have a few widgets loaded of course. like 5 i think total, most of which are stock sense widgets (the clock/weather one, the photo gallery one).
Hey guys,
I'm trying (without luck so far) to change the DPI setting on my tablet so that I can have more screen real estate.
I'm running stock (ICS) rooted on my Galaxy Tab 2 7" - this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798283
So far, I've tried:
- Editing build.prop myself to change DPI manually
- Using an app from the Play story
- Following the suggestions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826067
(no luck at all, because this app doesn't even include the lcd density slider)
In all cases, I either get no result, or I get a black startup screen. After each method/approach, I restore a clean backup from CWM (so the approaches aren't conflicting with each other).
I can't get anything to work. Any suggestions?
Did you try "Rom Toolbox Lite" from the play store. You need root to use it.
Performance > Build.prop Tweaks > LCD density ... pick what you want > Reboot.
Sorry if you tried that already but that's the easiest way to do it as far as i know.
May be because of stock rom try cm10 from www.teamhacksung.org you will not be disappointed i use it now marvellous !!!

I did indeed try that. Unfortunately, the LCD density simply isn't an option under the Build.prop tweaks menu. I'm guessing that this has something to do with the fact that my build.prop actually contains no reference to LCD density. The normal build.prop entry isn't there. I don't understand the nuts and bolts of this well enough to know why, but somehow, the system is getting its LCD density settings from something other than build.prop.
I've truly read every item in build.prop, and nothing appears to be related to LCD density, even by another name. It just doesn't seem to be in there, which is probably why Rom Toolbox Lite is intelligently removing that particular slider option from my view.

I'm completely open to going to CM10, but I'll tell you my reservation (and maybe you can tell me if I'm just missing something obvious):
I tried two or three of the CM10 roms yesterday. In all cases, when I booted to my homescreen, it was stuck in landscape mode. It wouldn't rotate into portrait, no matter what I did. I spent hours combing through threads, trying to figure out why one of the most basic aspects of being a tablet (the ability to rotate orientations) was not working. I finally came across a solution that required downloading a new launcher APK. I applied the solution, and it worked. But it felt glitchy, and the whole user experience situation was a bit disappointing. It didn't feel smooth, not that their was intense lag, but there was a noticeable UI performance hit (at least in my own subjective opinion).
It IS sort of killing me that I can't get the DPI to something more reasonable though - so I'm a motivated CM10-er. I just can't deal with a tablet that I'll practically never use in landscape, being stuck in landscape.
Have you tried setting/display/rotation and ticked autorotate, include lock screen and 0,90,180,270 degrees
You could also try Nova or apex launchers or go launcher hd i use it now

Yep. I think it's actually a known bug.
I have somewhat mixed emotions about eschewing the bloatware of the stock Samsung experience, only to put on a 3rd party launcher after the fact. But that's a philosophical debate best had elsewhere. I think my issue with CM10 or AOSP right now, is that stuff just doesn't seem to work right on the P3113. I could be wrong - in fact, I very well might be wrong. I'm not necessarily as up to date as someone who has owned this tablet for more than 3 days. But in terms of the 10 or so hours I've spent clunking away at it this weekend, it seems like some really obvious stuff is missing. (rotation, etc).
Hello all,
I'm having some issue with the Google Play Music app force-closing. Every time I start it, it FCs within 5 seconds and I can't do anything with it. I was originally on the vanilla version of it, but over the weekend I switched to the inverted color scheme version found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231787
In hopes that it might fix the problem. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
I've tried uninstalling and rebooting the vanilla version and the inverted one, I've tried wiping the cache and Dalvik, all to no avail. And I can't find any threads on the issue for the recent version of the app. Can anybody help?

Need more info like rom. I haven't had this problem at all because I don't play music on my phone, but my bf did. I put slim on his phone and play music did this very thing. He was fed up so told me to put it back to stock and no issues anymore. don't know what the problem was.
Definitely need some more info on what ROM you're using. Downloaded the app from the playstore and it's working fine on slimbean. Have you changed DPI on your phone, that is s common factor with apps fc'ring.

I knew I forgot something in the OP. I'm on the 4.2.2 version of PAC-man. If I recall correctly mine is the 22.1.0 version, flashed it two weeks ago.
I didn't think about the DPI, I'll give it a go.

I tried playing with the DPI in the PA settings, and sure enough it closed if I changed it from default. But, it only FCs in portrait orientation. If I use the application in landscape, it works fine. In addition, it only FCs at the all music menu when in portrait mode. And the music is still playing even after the FC... I'm quite thoroughly confused as to what could be the issue. Also I have reset to default DPI and it's still behaving this way.
