[Q] sdCard not working after CM10 ROM install - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello to all.
This is my first post. I have just installed CM10 on my Sprint Galaxy S3 SPH-L710 phone. I notice that my information contained on the sdCard is not being read. I can look at the pictures. In the Storage portion of the settings, I notice that the sdCard "usage meter" is blank (grey). When i install the card in my laptop, I see all of the files.
Is there a fix for this or should I install a new ROM? I installed the latest version from this site (8-23-2012)
Please help and yes I am a Rookie with this. But I appreciate all of the information here, and yes I SEARCHED for an ANSWER prior to posting this question:fingers-crossed:
Blessings

Just FYI this is the Verizon S3 forum.
And you can't browse your card thru the settings>storage menu. You need to use a file browser like astro or es file explorer. You can also use the one that's already on your phone called my files.

And it may be worth knowing that it is September, not August. The latest build of CM10 as of this writing for SPH-L710 is cm-10-20120914-NIGHTLY-d2spr.zip according to get.cm. Perhaps that SDcard issue has been addressed since the 23rd of August

Just reading through the document now, seems the first link, http://www.soft‐go.com/get/Samsung‐Kies_79632.html isn't working. Not sure if the site is just down right now or if there's a mistake.

I Fixed it
A few small things:
Intel should be intel.
Under CPU Optimization:
"Samsung’s CPU is set by default the run at 1gHz."
The should be to.
Sideloading:
"(don’t forget that after you install it from the market you still have to go to your app drawer and run busybox once so it installs)."
Should this be after you download it from the market?
ClockworkMod Recovery:
"ClockworkMod written for us by a developer that goes by the name of Koush"
Missing is.
"This gent puts a ton of work into helping us captivate owners out"
Replace puts with put and Capitalize Captivate.
Changing Your Messaging Ringtone:
"well the ones that matter anyway.."
Extra period.
Other than that, excellent guide. I'll definitely be using it when my Captivate arrives.

Thanks! I fixed all those errors but I'm not gonna upload the new version just yet because I will keep finding more errors so it just seems wasteful. I did not actually write most of the guide myself I just formatted it so there may be some mistakes I didn't pick up on.

Hi,
Thanks for publishing this. It looks very useful, similar to Energy ROM.. But I am very new to Android phones (trying this on Samsung Captivate from AT&T, bought yesterday). I am running windows 7 ultimate 64bit and I exactly followed this guide. But somehow I am still not able to see the sd card. I tried placing the update.zip at Computer\SGH-I897\Phone and shut down the phone and tried restarting the phone by holding the up/down keys as well as power button. But after selecting reinstall packages it said could not find /sdcard/update.zip.. Pls held. Again very sorry if I did some mistake..

The SD card is simply the root directory of your phone. You do not need to open a folder, it is the highest folder you can place it in. Hope that helps
Somehow it was not able to find the sdcard root. Then I realized that you mentioned something called as Droid Explorer, I searched for it and installed it on my PC. But when I opened Droid Explorer, my device was not recognized, then I clicked on link on the explorer window, upon watching that video I enabled the USB Debugging, then I was able to see my device, then I selected connect to my device. After that I saw an explorer but it had empty root and I was not able to copy anything. There was a menu button at the top row named "Transfer to device or Copy to device" I selected that and selected update.zip file and tried to transfer. Something happened but still explorer was empty. Then from my phone Top slide down menu I selected mount USB storage and I started seeing windows explorer on my PC. Then apart from other folders I could see a folder sd in the root. Then I again put update.zip in the root.
Then followed the restart sequence, this time it found the file but exited after Signal 7. It was trying to asert something but could not find the correct model number I guess. My cell phone's model number is Samsung i897.
Please help

I did not write the PC instructions, so I can not help you (I only have a Mac). But the person who did can probably help you his username is systoxity.
Because not enough errors were found to make it worthwhile to update the PDF i will wait till tomorrow to fix the minor errors.
Good source of information
Thank you for putting this together. I am going to sticky this for the time being.
For installing the latest version of busy box, you should include that before the instructions for running titanium backup...the latest version of busybox installed from the market will work with titanium backup so theres no need to have to click the "problems" button...this way you wont have to do the busybox download step twice...should also save a few megs since titanium backup wont have its own copy of busybox installed BTW nice guide
You can also just mount the phone memory using windows explorer and move the file over. I was never able to get droid explorer to transfer the file. It always said it went but then was never there.
Anyway all I did was connected just as I was going to connect to kies but then when windows asked me what I wanted to do I clicked on open file view and dropped updated.zip on my phone.
Only issue that I had with rooting was I accidentally opened the file in windows(winrar). After I moved the file over it found it and attempted to install it but then exited with an error(do not remember exact error), but had to do with mounting. Anyway I re-downloaded file and saw file size was different. After I moved the file over again everything went great. I still haven't removed bloat-ware and such but thats next on the agenda.
Also I was on windows 7 64 bit, saw some other users in other threads saying they had issues connecting the phone. Everything so far has worked great for me
Thank you very much for this handy pdf file!
Somelinks aren't working
First of all I have to say very good guide for noobs!
1. when I downloaded the update.zip folder I didn't work I guess because the name of Samsung captivate is not in the folder or something. So I just downloaded the other file from the forums.
2. Link to CPU optimization doesn't work.
3. I downloaded the droid explorer. It connected to my phone but I was unable to transfer anything. So I just tapped on the USB connected in the notification bar and mounted the phone. This allowed me to use windows explorer to transfer files. I believe one can transfer files by selecting the option of Samsung Kies under USB settings.
I got all your feedback. It will all be corrected by tomorrow night.
Cool guide however the rumor is the GPS only gets turned on when pulling up an App that uses it, so that step in the "battery saving" section might not be necessary.
Also you may want to replace Market Enabler with Market Access. It's a rehash of Market Enabler but also has a Set on Boot option that keeps it persistent versus being reset each time.
You also Might want to add a Tips/Tricks Section..
Here You can put some cool tips like the one i found out about backlight control.

[Q] Clockwork Recovery issue - Installation of Update.zip

Morning Fellas.
I have myself a Rogers Captivate and im attempting an installation of Serendipity 7. Ive run into an issue with the Update.zip in Clockwork Recovery... The update says it completes in less then 2 seconds. This file size is 149 mb's, how can this be possible? Am i smoking something fierce, or is this the way its actually supposed to work? Someone had said on another site, that the SD card may be corrupted, or the file system may be pooched. So, i formatted the card, put a new Update.zip on there (which is my re-named serendipity file), but it does the same thing...
Have i done something wrong, or did i do everything according to their guide on there serendipity site (download section)...{cant post links on first 8 posts}
The only thing that has me confused, is that nowhere in that guide, does it say to rename the file to Update.zip.
Any help? Ive searched the forums under the Android general section, and couldnt find much associated to this "issue" if it is one.
Thanks,
-Js
Also, i just started looking at this OS, and for some reason, i cant access 3G, or HSPA. None of my data apps work on top of that!
And to edit this even more. My phone is now registered as a GT-I9000, where my model number is an I896..... Something is really messed up here!
Scrap this thread. Apparently im just retarded. Instead of putting it in /sdcard which is for the onboard memory, i kept putting it in the external.
Thanks anyways everyone. HSPA works fully, as well as Data and no errors.

[Q] n00b advice needed

Hi all,
I live on the UK and was recently on a business trip to the States, where I was lucky enough to win a Xoom Wi-Fi in the company hack-a-thon.
While I was still there it received about 3 ota updates and is now running:
Android version:
3.2.1
Kernel version:
2.6.36.3-g111d827
[email protected] #1
Build number
HTK75D
And the model info on the back is:
FCC ID: IHDT56MT1 IC: 109O-T56MT1
I have a couple of questions that I am hoping the fine people on here can address
1) I've put a 32gb SD card in that was working fine in my Galaxy S and some of the images on it appear in the gallery, but the movies I have on it (mostly avi's) do not. I also cannot browse to the SD card using ES Explorer. Do I need to root to browse to it? What could I use to view the files on the card and play the movies?
2) Will I still receive OtA updates while I'm in the UK (I suspect this is a stupid question, but thought I'd ask anyway)
3) Should I just ditch the base honeycomb and put a custom rom on or do they put out regular ota updates? If so any recommendations?
Many thanks in advance,
James
OK. To answer part of my own question moboplayer allows me to browse up to /mnt so I can get to the videos on the external SD card.
Dunno why es explorer won't let me browse up. Time to find an alternate file explorer...

I'm not sure how many more honeycomb updates you'll still be getting. Android 4.0.3 is coming soon.
I'll settle for that ;-)

Ace. Thanks very much. Silly of me to think I could go up from /sdcard to / really!
You will still receive ota updates in the UK even though it's a US Xoom. Regarding ROMs, if it's something you feel comfortable experimenting with, custom ROMs definitely bring out the best in the Xoom.

[Q] two storage locations maybe?

I don't even have any idea how to search for this or even ask about it. I'll try!
Okay, so after having trouble with 4.2.2, I decided to flash an older rom. I had some problems with wifi logo turning white and not being able to connect to Google, so I searched for a new gapps to flash. I was having computer trouble, so I downloaded it onto my phone, it saved to the downloads folder. I also had noticed none of my other files were in there, which kinda freaked me out, but the same amount of space was being used on my internal memory (I don't have a SD card). Anyway, I went to go flash it with twrp and went to downloads and saw all my OLD files, which didn't include the new gapps download. So, I went to root explorer after rebooting and moved the gapps to my root folder, then restarted to recovery and it's not there. The only thing I can think of is when I'm in recovery, it just says sdcard, when I'm in the system, it says sdcard0.
Does anyone know what's going on and maybe something I can search for? This is weird. My files are clearly there and I just can't access them... even with full root access!
Sorry if this didn't make a lot of sense, I have no idea what's going on at all and I'm also kinda tired. Hope you can help!
------ I found the answer here: androidforums .... /verizon-galaxy-nexus-all-things-root/649940-4-2-sdcard-sdcard-0-observation.html
My tired brain finally kicked in and I searched sdcard0 and figured it out. Now, I guess I have to move stuff so I can use the old os. I'm only not deleting the post because it might helps someone. And I'm sure modifying links isn't allowed but I can't link with less than 10 posts and I wanna make sure people get the answer, so... yeah... Add com in the middle.

[Q] Cannot access SD-Card in Galaxy Core 2 SM-G355H ?

Hello folks, i have Galaxy Core 2 SM-G355H and i have rooted my phone and installed the CWM recovery, which i think has done good.
Even the phone after being rooted hasn't done me any good.
I had initially started a topic here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-core/help/copy-to-ssd-samsung-galaxy-core-2-sm-t3033178
But the OP hasn't been able to give me some working solutions.
So i am asking to anyone who knows about this stuff. I have rooted and installed CWM recovery, that still given me authority
over my SD-Card, i cannot copy/paste/delete/rename basically access it fully.
The only way i can do is, remove the SD-Card and insert in a Card reader and copy/paste/delete etc.
But i cannot directly do from phone itself.
I already have fX Explorer, Solid explorer and ES File Explorer.
Nothing has worked, so i am asking can anyone show me how to do that.
I would be grateful for your suggestion.
Awaiting reply.

Have you flashed new firmware ?
New kernels (boot.img) have default ro acess to sdcard !
Please state your infos :
Model
Modem
Core build ...
The workaround I provide for this type won't work after update !!!
You will have to flash previous boot or recompile the new boot

The FS /system and other too is/are readonly (ro) in device, so if u want to delete or copy inside this partition u must change it to rw (readwrite), it's better for you to use some Explorer root based application like FX Explorer with root addon ...
If u have copied the update zip to extSdCard and run the update procedure in stock recovery U should be able to copy/edit/delete files on your extSdCard - Card if the install were sucessfull.
For a check: Install app https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...=nextapp.sdfix and check again things now U'r rooted. Regards

I have already installed at least a dozen of explorer, most promising was fx explorer with it free root access add-on, the other was ES File
explorer. They both can't copy/paste files to Memory card.
My device is Galaxy Core 2 SM-G355H, Android 4.4.2. I have already rooted and installed CWR mode, but i havn't flashed my firmware.
I am searching now for a possible firmware update, that could access memory card.
Could you do a small part from your side and find a firmware that can be flashed in my device, i will try from my side. :good:
Will update , if i find some solution.

The users in this forum don't know how to read posts. U'r among them too. Sorry for my statement, but it's true.

All of the stock firmwares uses KK RO acess for SdCard unless U install some custom & fixed ones.
Have also provided many tutorials in the subforums detaily how to fix it for GC2 models.
Latest firmwares uses some extra functionality regarding SDCards, fix will not work unless ...
Enjoy.

OK, thanks for the statement. I accept, i am a newbie here. I can figure my way through most of the other forum out there.
But one pertaining to Mobile device require's little more knowledge, because its tricky, since there are a huge number of devices.
I am not a regular visitor.
Anyways, i found a firmware for my device.
Link:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G355H/
http://samsung-updates.com/details/42605/Galaxy_Core_2/SM-G355H/INS/G355HXXU0AOC1.html
The second link to the firmware matched the hashes to the link in the first link.
Did the Odin thing, and all the necessary steps. But still i am not able to copy/paste/delete etc function.
So i technically give up for this device, i'll use it as it is.
@StratOS_HTC: I tried the KitKat access app from Google Play store, a number of them. But they all showed similar results.
But i'll be open to your opinion.
Thank you.:good:

As said and will said again :
Please read carefully !
Hope your phone works ok and everything else on phone is ok.
If you can't access your extSdCard throught phone do a low level format ( and hope you don't use 64 GB ).
Hope also you don't use any other EXT partition on your sdcard. or any other sd linkage or swap options on your sdcard
Format the sdcard as only extFAT or FAT on any other comp card reader and reformat it on the phone !
Now you should be able to access the sdcard on your phone if every thing else on phone is ok.
If U'r rooted on stock ( KitKat sdcard restriction ) and if U have installed nextapp.sdfix and grant su access to it the app will change this permissions for you and you will be able to aceess rw to sdcard now.
