Maybe you all can help me out. 2 weeks ago I flashed Virtuous Affinity 2.05. Coming from Unity 2.39, I did the typical wipe cache/dalvik and had no issues. But for the past week, whenever I leave my phone plugged in over night it doesn't fully charge.
I'm leaving it plugged in for at least 6 hours, even up to 8 hours at times but it only charges up to 50-70%. I have checked to make sure the "Keep Display On While Charging" is not checked, yet when I check to see what's been hogging up the battery while charging - I find that Display is issue. Though the display is off during the charge, I don't know how it could be causing it.
Below are some screen shots.

I noticed this issue when I was trying to calibrate the battery. I was successful the first time (and other issues have caused some problems with the battery (long story short: had to reflash Affinity)).
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

How old is the battery and is the cable frayed or anything? Try using a different cable and plugging it in to your computer one night. Otherwise, its probably the battery. I would buy the battery+external charger combo in case its an issue with your usb port
The battery is the same as when I bought the phone, so 2 years old. The cable isn't frayed and I have tried using another wall charger and cable with no luck. I eventually reflashed the ROM and it seemed to fix the long charge time. But now I've noticed that the battery drains much faster now with minimal use. I do agree with you that it must be an old battery though.
Have you dropped the phone recently? I was having charging problems and quick battery drain issues that seemed to be directly related to the display brightness, and I thought it was the battery as well. I replaced it, reflashed my Rom, tried different batteries, and different chargers - no help. The only thing left is physical damage, which I looked into and found that the cost wasn't worth it.
Hopefully it's just your battery.
If you don't mind though, if it turns out to be something else, and you can figure it out, can you report back here so I may have some idea whether I can fix the issue myself or whether to start looking for a new phone? I'd really appreciate it.

I've dropped my phone a few times, none that I ever saw affect its performance. I'm not 100% sure but I know the problem is the battery. When I pulled the battery, there is a slight bulge in the towards the middle of it. So I know it is time to replace it.
Due to the timing of this nature, I was already starting to look for a new phone and ended up getting one yesterday, HTC One S. I still plan on getting a new battery for the MT4G and using it as a test phone. I don't know if you have T-Mobile but they are doing a deal that actually lowered my payment plan for unlimited everything, just have to get a new phone. In either case, good luck to you as well!
Actually, my battery had a bulge as well. Either way, it's most likely the battery anyway.
I looked at the one s myself, but didn't like the non removable battery, so I'm going to replace with the Amaze. Works well for me anyway as I'm with Wind (Canada) right now, but I'm thinking of moving in the next year or so to an area that isn't covered by Wind, and the Amaze will work with the companies that do. Yeah, I don't switch phones often - just roms...

Happened to me once. Rebooted, and never happened again.

It happens occasionally. People have noted it here in a couple threads, but it seems to occur with non-samsung chargers, particularly Apple ones.
I've had it happen when my phone was just at 97% and I decided to top it off in the car (with a random charger). It went back up to 100 and got stuck there until a reboot. No one seems to have a good reason for why this happens, and its not consistent, at least in my experience...
Give the battery a little time to adjust to use (a couple of weeks anyway). If you are using the stock charger (this is important) and it still happens after a couple of weeks, get AT&T to give you a new battery. Good luck.
I have the same issue. Battery level indicator stays stuck all day until the phone powers off. I have to reboot it, sometimes twice, to get it working properly. I've always used a Belkin 2amp, dual port charger (1 amp per port) for charging. The problem didn't seem to start until I bought a pair of fairly high quality, 6' MediaNet cables. Had the issue for the past three mornings. Bought the phone on the 21st. Phone is completely stock AT&T.

I had that happen yesterday and I use the cable that came with the phone, but the adapter for my iPhone. WIll have to change that because it's a bit of a bother. A reboot will fix the issue though.
I suppose I'll have to try that despite the Belkin dual port working fine for the first week or so. I like it because I can keep both the phone and my iTouch charging on the headboard of my bed at night. I'm sure I can find another outlet to run two blocks.
If you guys haven't seen the other threads here and around the web concerning this the issue is believed to be a bad battery (bad firmware)

I bought my Skyrocket on the 21st. I brought it home, openned the box and was instantly unimpressed with the length and flimsiness of the charge cable. I immediately ordered 2 high quality MediaNet 6' MicroUSB cables and an OtterBox Commuter case. I then spent a week waiting while using the nornal routine I have used for a couple of years. I have a Belkin dual port charger by my bed. 2amp, 1amp per port. I charge both my phone and my 64G iTouch overnight while I sleep. The only time I deviated from this practice was on Christmas Eve when I spent the night at my girlfriend's and used the stock charger. Everything was fine for a week until the cables arrived. First night on the much nicer, heavier, and most importantly.... longer MediaNet cable, I awoke to the 100% battery stuck issue. The next three nights in a row resulted in the same thing. Last night, I switched back to the stock cable. This morning... no 100% battery stuck issue. I only have one day of testing to base this opinion on but FOR ME... the issue appears to be what cable I use and has nothing to do with the charger. I did absolutely nothing else... no pulling batteries, no change in software. The phone is completely 100% stock with the apps I pretty much installed all during the first two days of owning the thing. The only thing that changed... was the cable.
It's probably both the cable and the charger. You're forced to use both or you'll get this problem. Would not be a problem if they didn't suck.
I believe this to be correct about it being a battery issue, I have both an skyrocket and the Samsung galaxy player 5.0, and they both have exhibited the battery fully charged sticking problem. The problem with the galaxy player is that the battery can not be removed.

Turns out my wife's skyrocket had a bad battery. She had no issues on the chargers she usses, I had no issues with mine on the charger I use. First charge with her battery in my phone on my charger and the battery sticks at 100%
doing one more test tonight (her phone+her battery in my charge) but I am sure the results will be the same
the issue (as posted before by someone else) is a bad battery, not the charger/cable theory, that only triggers the true battery issue
So how do we get this fixed? Will Samsuck just send us new batteries for free?
It will still require sending in the phone I bet. It would be better to stop by an art corp store I would think. ...

Thanks for suggesting that the battery may be the cause of the problem. I've had the Skyrocket for just over a week, and the unreliable battery indicator has been an issue several times, mostly after I've charged it while driving, so using the Samsung wall charger isn't an option.
I'll try taking it to my local AT&T store and see if they'll swap the battery. Meanwhile, I order a package with two non-Samsung batteries from Amazon, and it will be interesting to see if those solve the problem.
I know it was mentioned in a previous post, but did you try using the "samsung power block" that came with the phone? My phone had the same issue, but once I switched over to the power block they gave me, I haven't had it since.

Yeah, can't help you there. Does rebooting the phone help? (I know its a sucky workaround, but if you're consistently charging it, then maybe the battery indicator isn't that critical).
I noticed one day that my battery stats wouldn't reset after charging it or a battery pull. If the battery was anywhere above 50% and I did a pull, it would restart showing 100%. It ended up getting to the point that I couldn't use the phone for more than 5 minutes straight because it would die. I've had the phone almost a year, so I didn't think the battery would go out so quickly.
I went to the Tmobile store and they pulled the battery and told me to feel it. There is a hump/rounding that happens to the battery when it is shot or overcharged or something like that.
I got my replacement in yesterday and charged it to 100%, then did a battery calibration this morning at 0430 after I took it off the charger. Here it is 0032 and I have 25% battery life left! Now, I am running Juicy Defender in aggressive mode, so I'm sure that helps quite a bit.
Other than that, I've been running CM7's last nightly (#252 I think), Radio 26.09.04.26, and kernel faux 1.0.7 CFS+ low voltage.a
I wanted to share in case anyone was having similar issues. I also forgot to mention that I got the battery for free and just had to pay for the standard ground shipping. Can't beat that!!

Well, screen on time is the real teller. Usually between 3 and 4 hours. When you see people getting 4 plus, you know their ROM/kernel/tweaks combo is dialed.
To illustrate, I charged and unplugged my phone before bed. When I got up it was at 11h 5m, 100%. But it had been laying there. 10 min after I started using it, it started dropping.

pinch the battery around the middle and slide your fingers toward the top of it (away from the contacts), then reverse. See if you feel a rounding or slight hump. If you do, then you might be due for one.
Can't really feel it.can it be something else or only cause of that?.does it have to feel or can the bump be noticeble too
Same here, I bought a new battery last week and this new battery is making one hell of a difference. Getting over a day with heavy usage on the new battery (straight Modern Combat 3, Sonic 4 Ep1 and Frontline Commando all day).

I really dont know what to tell you other than take it into a store and see if they can get you a replacement or troubleshoot it for you. I'm not an expert, so I dont want to pass bad information. This just happened to work for me and I thought it would help others. Good luck!
If they do charge you for the battery, try looking into the anker 1550 mAh batteries that estallings15 mentioned. They worked for him.

I wish I had taken pictures of my old Motorola battery. It was bulging so badly that it should have been on TV's The Biggest Loser. The cells will expand in time. The replacement battery actually rattled around for the first few months.
I highly recommend the 3rd party battery, that has 1800 ( or 1700) mah and is not extended. Fits perfectly and it gives you easy 18 hours with heavy use

Hmm, I think that I may be having the same problem actually. How did you go about telling them about your problem/getting them to replace it? You say that you're running CM7, so you're rooted and installed a custom ROM, which would void the warranty. Did the T-mobile employees give you any hassle with that?

i have the stock battery that came with it and have great battery life on 1.0.3. Where did you get your battery? Could you have gotten hornswaggled? Also have you tryed recalibrating your battery using the advanced option in clockwork or the Recalibration app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration
I have used the battery calibration app. Should I try doing it in recovery?
Pyroice mt4gs
I'm pretty sure they do the same thing, recovery verses recal app. If you haven't already, i would drain it completely and then let it charge with the phone off overnight to ensure it's full. and then run recalibration. In the meantime Ill pay attention to what i get on a daily average and we can compare. You shouldn't be > 70% after 3 hours doing nothing.
I'm on pyro ice with the stock battery and have the same problem. I just stay near a charger!
How long does a full charge last?
A lot depends on signal quality as well.
If I dnt use the screen too much I can get around 18-23 hrs on good signal, but worse with bad.

I do just about the same. Flashed with the ExtremeUV kernel, though. Given our horrible network and no 4G, i usually just stick to 2G because 3G causes my phone to heat up. When am at home I switch to wi-fi. All my setcpu profiles are on powersave mode except on call.
i went through the battery recalibration process too, set my brightness setting to manual 20% during the day and 0% in teh evening.
I can't possibly think of anything else to increase those hours.

Every time you let this type of battery completely die, part of it will never work again and dies forever.
Much better to stop at 2-5% then go to full empty, you hurt your battery for no good reason.
To properly break in a new battery, you need to bring it to full, then to that 2-5% mark 4 or 5 times in a row, it exercises the cells and gets them ready to work.
This may be helpful:
Everything you wanted to know about Li-Ion batteries but were afraid to ask!
Edit:
And this:
Battery:
- Spare batteries for the MT4GS? Anker for the win!!
- Mugen Power batteries (1800mAh and 3600mAh) for MyTouch 4G Slide?
- Anker or Mugen???
- Generic 1800mah batteries from Ebay?
- Can we use Sensation Seidio batteries?
- external battery pack! Awesome!
(happened to be putting battery links together in my reference, so figured i'd toss that part in here too)
I just wanted to share the deal I found on a spare battery with 200 extra mAh. I would imagine that this does not have the NFC chip, but I wasn't too concerned with that as of yet since I don't use any tags yet anyway. I spent a little over $3.00 with shipping for one battery. I figured even if it was garbage, I'm not out much money.
http://www.ahappydeal.com/product-86003.html
Update:
Received this battery today. It was at 68% when I put it in this morning. So far, so good. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, like excessive heat.

is it safe to use I9300 battery on our device?
Even the real one that costs $44 does not have great reviews. Will also lose NFC capability that the $44 one has. Should be ok for backup if does not explode in phone.
Fishy.... very fishy... also curious to see how this pans out.
"$3.00 with shipping for one battery" = guaranteed junk
I was given one of these exact looking batteries (can't be sure of brand/manufacturer as they're un-branded but they certainly have the same sticker from the looks of the picture) and thought "what the hell... it's free" and started using it. Less than 3 days in and I noticed my phone getting warmer than usual. Didn't think anything of it, thought it might have been just from me using the phone more. About 5 days into using it the phone started getting REALLY hot when charging. Next thing I knew, while charging the phone, the edge of the battery cover "popped" and was pushed out so it unlatched from the phone. You guessed it, the battery was swollen and HOT to the touch. Hot enough where I couldn't hold it bare handed for very long. Unplugged it immediately, placed it in a heat/fire proof container to let it cool down, but it kept swelling for the next 5 mins to the point where it won't fit in the phone any longer. (Not that I tried, but from the looks of the deformation there is no way it would fit in the battery compartment.)
As they say, you get what you pay for. Why risk saving ~$30 when it can damage/ruin your ~$500 phone! Worst yet, why risk it for bodily harm to yourself or your loved ones?!! (Perhaps this can be a covert way to dispose of/harm your mortal enemies and blame it on faulty junk electronics... hmm...) I'm fairly certain that if I had kept charging the battery there would have been a very likely case of it starting a fire as it was on top of a paper book on my night stand while charging. I can't imagine how horrible I would feel if MY phone had started a fire that ended up hurting or killing someone in the process...
Moral of the story - yes, you might get a battery that works well for you and I'm sure many people have, but why risk it?? My suggestion - STAY AWAY! STAY FAR FAR AWAY!
I actually bought this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330768545772
supposedly 2900mah
comes with 3 batteries and a charger
Now my word of warning: I have used these china batteries before for my other smartphones. They never gave me an issue of overheating or anything like that, but dont believe the power ratings they have. it is NOT 2900mah. Its probably more like 1800mah
I keep them charged and use them in case my phone dies and I have to have a phone right away. I dont use them as my normal day to day battery.
I got two Anker batteries for $15.00. I usually only need to resort to using one of them each week, but I always have a second if needed. I believe for a few more dollars you can get an external battery charger. That takes care of the charging problem.
How about two batteries and a charger from hyperion for $20. I believe this to be a fairly reputable brand. It can be found on Amazon if you search for hyperion. Sorry, it appears I am not cool enough to post links yet.

Kind of seems like all their positive reviews are fake.

I can vouch for them. Tested several batteries and it does have longer battery life than OEM

Haven't tested the Anker 2200 yet so I cant say for sure which battery is the best.
I might be looking into picking one up but am leaning towards an external one.

Thanks for the heads up.
I realize that this battery most likely is not a good battery. For $3 it would certainly be a good emergency backup.
It hasn't been delivered yet, but I'll give an update once I'm able to try it.

I use a seidio charge vault that was invaluable when I was on a work trip and started experiencing frequent hot boots on a previously fairly stable rom. Between trying to troubleshoot that and flashing to a backup I went through my battery pretty quick. It is also my go to travel charger.
Received this battery today. It was at 68% when I put it in this morning. So far, so good. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, like excessive heat.

Anyone here invest in an extended battery with case and have any input on their experience with it? I have heard hyperion is good but it has very mixed reviews online and there are issues with getting a decent back plate. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

I've been wondering the same thing but if you hit up the accessories subsection you'll see a bunch of posts discussing it.

I recently purchased the Hyperion with Case and cover I have to say I'm impressed with the battery life so far. Still testing. Here are my results from first use

16% screen time? Well I can last longer on stock battery
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I bought an extended battery 4500mah on ebay for $8 a couple weeks ago from ebay. It makes the phone twice as thick, but the battery lasts all day with moderate use. I haven't put my phone on the charger mid-day since I bought it. Being that its a cheap generic battery, there is no brand name and I can't verify the capacity is accurate, but it is getting the job done. I'm at work and can't really give any more specifics, but heres a quick comparison
Pros: 1 overnight charge lasts all day, phone not much heavier, GSAM app seems to accurately adapt, Thicker case seems to protect rear camera and light better without obstructing them. Makes you more attractive to opposite gender (this may be a false claim)
Cons: Phone thicker, loss of NFC chip, longer charge time, must charge from lower capacity to avoid confusing battery estimation mechanisms (under 40ish%) Harder to find protective cases, and old ones will not fit.
the gs3 is the first phone i haven't thought of buying a bigger battery for. i get great life with the stock one, much better than my razr maxx had.
I was about to buy one of these extend bateries, but making the phone twice as thick is a turn off....
Thanks for all the responses so far. What I did was buy another oem nfc enabled battery, and a phone mount charger with battery charger. I am actually getting all day charge with heavy use and switching in a fresh one before sleep. The only reason I was curious about extended was because I enjoy hiking and photography. But unless you get 2 days use it doesn't appear to be much better than buying multiple stock batteries.

i ended up getting the extended battery from hyperion on amazon.
i live in miami, and lost power for like 2 days over a month back and instantly i realized i needed this fat battery.
it actually feels better when i grip it. and i love that i forget at times to charge and its all good.
i got it for my wife since she is always killing her phone. it goes all day sometimes 1 day and half.
it's funny though because the size may turn you off but size wize it matches other friends of mine who also have the s3 and they over do it with the thick cases and stock battery.
Does anyone know how to reset the phone to give an accurate read out of the bigger battery?
Is there such a need to do so?
With these batteries the specs for a OEM battery is like days in standby. Would not one think that an extended battery would last weeks, and not drain in a day of hanging out in your pocket with little WiFi, calls, and text messages?
I know the ones they sell on e bay and Amazon are old new batteries as they have been sitting in storage and shelf live has caught up to them.
This is the only explanation for such a short time before having to recharge them.
I have never had a brand new hot off the press battery, as I get my phones at the pawn shop discounted. Hence they are already discontinued by the service providers.
I wouldn't even trust buying a new OEM battery from them as there is no telling how long they have had there batteries in stock just sitting there getting old depreciating.

I agree - stock battery is good but I bought an extended anyway for longer gaming sessions.
I use the stock battery when at work so I can use my otterbox, but in my leisure time the hyperion battery rocks. No complaints on the stock battery, liking the hyperion as well.
My complaint is losing data service under 50% battery - hyperion staves that off longer.
But does hyperion really offer more than a day these responses seem to confirm my worries of it not being double as advertised but maybe in the 1.25 to 1.75 range? And if all the stock batteries have been sitting on the shelf how would the hyperion battery be any different? I am really considering investing in a hyperion still because 3 batteries would be ownage and I generally go on hikes for 2 to 3 days and my 2 stocks might not make it. Climbing a peak and taking a panoramic is truly special. But at this point investing in a new case with a hyperion might be more hassle than buying some more oems on the cheap.
Anyways thanks for the responses everyone. And PROTIP storing your battery at 50% in a dry cool place is what is recommended for long term storage. Also I learned recently that letting your battery go through a full discharge and then recharging actually leads to a longer battery life span, by a huge factor!
PS sorry admins and others I just joined this forum and realize this whole thread should have been placed in the accessories section I hope my gaff does not make you think less of me.

Well first remember 16% becomes a larger number when you have more capacity also there were several other items being used. Also this was the first tinting charge of a cycle. The phone talk time ended up over 4 hours or so as well also I need several restarts. I am happy with it

Hyperion extended battery after a few cycles
How is everyone getting 24+ hrs with the Hyperion?? I seem to be only achieving 12+ hrs with almost 6 hrs of screen on time (wifi on, brightness 30%, sync on)!
