Hey guys, just ordered a car mount for my S3 and I've been reading that when the phone is docked, S-Voice turns on automatically. Is there a way to disable this functionality? I also read somewhere that freezing S-Voice will make bluetooth work incorrectly so not sure if that's true or if there's a way around it.
Also, do any custom ROMs support dock audio? I've read that CM10 doesn't support it yet.
Thanks

I don't want a different screen to pop up though...I just want the regular home screen to stay up when docked
Do you use S-Voice at all? If not freeze it. But of course this is only if you never use it.

Every morning when I get in my car I turn my winamp player and speedview app on. While I am driving I have to switch back and forth between app's to change the song.
What I am wondering is there a way to have a split screen like you can do on your home computer?
Yes before anyone says something I know I should not mess with my phone when driving...I am trying to prevent having to
I am sure someone else would have other needs for an app like this as well. Like surfing the web and texting at the same time...
bump....this has to be of interest to someone....I am willing to donate $50 for this app...

That's one thing I really miss from WebOS, the ability to control music from the notification bar without changing screens. If someone could make this happen on Android it would be awesome.
I forget what it's called, but there is an app that basically gives you an additional home screen that you open/close with the search button without actually leaving the app you are in. You can put a music widget on there and control your music with that.
Edit..... Found it, it's called Quickdesk.

The official desk cradle is on sale at VZW for $6.99 if anyone wants one, probably even with free 2-day shipping. See here
Just got mine today when the girlfriend got her new LG Revolution (/jealous). Also got the windshield car mount for same price.
Android 2.2
I bought both cradles, for about $12. Apparently there is a 3.5mm jack that won't function until we get the upgrade.

Yeh, I noticed that too...
Can the cradle app be modified?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
possibly... it would have to allow audio to be passed over the microUSB port...
Cradle App
I meant a more general modification, like changing the applications that are listed on the screen to others. I downloaded the APK Manager and extracted the APK. I have been looking through the XML files all day and trying to learn about this stuff.
Other apps
I have been searching further and I downloaded a few car and desk from other phones that I'll be trying out on a road tip tomorrow.
I have both cradles but rarely use them because I'm afraid of burned in images.. Anyone had this problem?
-Justin
What problem? Burn in problems? Yeah, I do.... The bar on top, especially the time, and everything from the ticker is burned in... Not a big deal, but whatever xP

I should probably be in the modding forum, but I didn't want to start another thread. Imnuts, reset me and now I am staring at smali code trying to figure out how to modify a button in the cradle app to read and point to a different app. Join me in the irc if you'd like to help.
I'd like to help xD smali editing is a cruel harsh mother, so we all need some help when it comes to this lol
I have some experience, so if you want me in just tell me when you are in the irc, because your are gone now

I use one called Car Home and I really like it. It automaticaly opens in the car, but not on the home dock. It allows for (at least) 3 seperate pages of 6 apps each to add your own apps and has speed, heading, and weather for current GPS or 3G location. So far I give it 4/5 stars since it doesnt make me a sandwich and dispense Monster from the headset jack. Another pair of reasons for the star demerit, albeit a lesser set of reasons than the last 2, would be that it doesnt auto open on home dock and its not really that pretty of a home screen.
This works now!!!! The external audio jack output on back!!!

Charges the phone, and will bring up the desk clock app. It turns it into a clock more or less, and it also has a 3.5mm headphone jack so you can plug speakers/headphones into it.
Also, if Froyo is never officially released, I'd imagine you could get your money back for the desk dock (and car dock of they have one) as they are not functional without the update. They are advertised with a sticker over the headphone port saying it will work with the Android 2.2 update, so no update, and they are essentially doing false advertising that the phone will receive the update. Who puts a sticker like that on a product if there won't be an update?
I've had the cradle since early March, at least I believe it's the same cradle. The 3.5mm jack on the back does work pre-update. The PIA is that you need to open the stock "music player" app, place your continuum into the dock then select the new icon that appears to be a phone. Once you activate the "external speaker" you can pause and quit the "music player" app and play whatever music app you choose. I've used doubletwist as well as Pandora without any issues. The only hassle is if you remove the phone from the dock you'll have to repeat these steps. I hope that is helpful.
Peace,
Ray
edit: I believe the cradle app also has the same icon so you'd be able to do it from there as well. I'm not a fan of the desk dock app because there is no customization available for it so I never use it.
Hey everyone,
So I know that there is a magnetometer in our g2x. But when I put a magnet to regardless of the polarity of positive or negative it only brings up car home. I know that droids used to do car come with one side of a magnet and multimedia station (or in my case just a clock) with the other side.
Also I was wondering if we could edit the type of app it was launching too. Not just being car home or a dock app?
Thanks

What you need to do is download "disable car home" "no dock" or similar app from market. Only first app worked for me.
Or try uninstall carhome via titanium.
or next time take out carhome from gapps or rom before install.
(i didn't know what exactly you were asking but assumed you wanted to get rid of the pop up)

Thanks for the reply but I actually want to replace it with another app. I know how to stop it. Maybe even possibly have the whole Droid function where you can have the positive or negative decide whether its a car dock or a multimedia dock.
Something like the idea that this Guy has about flipping the magnet

Okay so bear with me here. I'm trying to figure out a way to connect my Samsung SGH-I927 (Captivate Glide) to the Note 10.1 so I can use the physical keyboard to type with on the tablet. Is this possible in any way so I can use the tablet as a monitor and my phone as a keyboard?
Sent from my GT-N8013 using XDA Premium HD app
No you cannot do that as to recognize the phone drivers will be required which is not possible
Why dont you just buy a usb keyboard in that case a cheaper option or a bluetooth one
Oh okay, I was just wondering if it was possible. I wanted to find another way for people to type on the tablet without having to buy a new device. Thanks for the answer though.

Sv: Connecting a phone with the Note 10.1 in order to use the phone's keyboard?
There are apps to remotely control other Android devices, isn't it possible that such a solution will work? Since you can control the controlled device both with the actual device and with the device acting as a remote control, you should be able to use your tablet for everything and then just use your phone to write. I've not tried this though, if anything I would like to use my tablet keyboard to my SGS3 but since I can send sms using my tablet there's really no point to be honest.

You understand what I'm trying to achieve here right? It would be nice to be able to type on the tablet without having the virtual keyboard come up on the screen, using your phone as the keyboard for your tablet. (I'm assuming it's easier for most people to type faster on the phone rather than tablet). I'm not talking just sms, more as overall typing in every app, if possible.
Again, this is just a question which I'm hoping that we can find an alternative to using a bluetooth keyboard. It would be helpful for anyone who doesn't want to lug around more accessories for their tablet.

I think so! I'm sorry if I confused you with the talk about sms, that's just a sidetrack why I don't think many have this kind of suggestion.
However, my solution for you would be this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tournesol.tabletremote something like this, an app that allows you to remotely control another Android device including typing words (at least that's what the description tells). So, you use your tablet like you use to do and when you click on something where you wish to write you minimize the software keyboard on the tablet and use the phone instead.
I've not tried the app though, but there's a couple of different apps that do almost the same but in different ways and hopefully someone will do the trick.

No, it's okay, i just didn't want to be limited to sms .
I was looking at apps last night but it was late and didn't feel like running tests on different applications. I looked at that yesterday, I'm going to try it out later today. (still in bed at the moment since it's only 6:47 am). I also saw this app, and the interface seems basic. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...m=organic&utm_term=android+mouse+and+keyboard I feel like this could work also. The remote desktop by Kolakowski Damian doesn't let you control the tablet in the manner that you want to.

Well, there's a chance that you have to test a couple of different apps before you find someone that does what you want it to do and more importantly, in the way you want it to. But I can't see why you shouldn't be able to do it, I have the Unified Remote app to control my PC with my phone and typing works great even though I don't get any auto correction. After all, it's a quite simple feature and shouldn't involve too much data transfers that can cause lag if implemented correctly.

Tablet remote definitely works, but there's one major problem to it when you use the physical keyboard on the glide. If I wanted to enter special characters (colon, semicolon, apostrophes) it would not register on the tablet and only certain keys would hit. It works for the regular virtual keyboard on the phone.
If you want an alternative, smaller keyboard for easier typing, try out tablet remote. I'm sure there are more apps which I will look into and post on here.

I'm basically just guessing here, but I think that might be because you are not using the same ASCII codes on your OS as your app. In my opinion that shouldn't be a problem since it should just send the codes to the other device, but if it's converting it to text before sending it over there might be a problem. After all, the most common use for this app I suppose is typing in an URL or maybe search for a song, at least that's that I'm doing when remotely control another device.
If there's not any settings where to specify regions in the app, hopefully there's an app that supports US (?) keyboards.

I have bought a bluetooth keyboard for the galaxy note 10.1. The issue i am having is that the on screen keyboard still pops up whenever i am typing and it defeats the purpose of having the bluetooth keyboard. I am not rooted and I hope that I dont have to root just because of this. Is there a way to fix this issue because i only see half of the screen when using bluetooth keyboard. Thanks!

I use External Keyboard Helper Pro. Works well. I do not use my BT keyboard very often anymore though, so not sure if it works as well now as it did 6 months ago. Changed to a macbook air for heavy computing work needs and now use that for typing.
