when i got the phone, one of the first things i've done is to turn off the power saver
Install "Extended Controls" and place a widget for the flashlight on one of your homescreens. I just tried my flashlight and it works, my battery is at 7% right now, with Power Saver Turned Off. This way you don't need to install any more flashlight apps, you have flashlight toggle ability with one touch from a homescreen, plus you have an awesome app that does A LOT more than just toggle on your Rear Camera LED.
Also, Extended Controls is just absolutely awesome to have because of the ability to customize functionality widgets to the fullest. A must on any and every android device that I own.

Just bought it per your recommendation - I can only agree, the Extended Controls are great: A perfect addition to HTCs built-in "Quick Settings" in the notification drawer.
Maybe once more people have S-OFF developers can tweak this to run at low battery settings, Probably some Smali editing
Anyone know a real fix for this yet?
My Desire HD won't use the flashlight in Camera modus when battery is below 15% while the energysave option in settings is turned off.
Can it be hacked to below 5% ???
Latest leedroid kernel doesn't force torch of until it hits 15% but forcing it down to 5% would be silly as the phone powers off at 5%
Sent from my Sensation using Cyanogenmod
Good find - solved more than one problem for me
Thats stupid, my DesHD shuts down until all the way to 1% left.
Not 5%...
If I still have 5% left, I bet I can take a guick picture with flashlight and still have 30 to 60 min. left off battery power, enough to check incoming messages.
(maybe not to check facebook or twitter with 3G or make 30 min calls, but plenty juice to answer a phone and tell the other person where I am, or sent a reply message of where i am at the time. 5% is more than you think. I once had 1% left, and I closed all backgroundrunning programs and killed the internet connection and the phone went on for almost another hour!!)
So killing the flashlight for taking photos from still having 15% juice is lame.
Besides, as Android is socalled "open source" and userfriendly, they should let the users decide (with an options/settings menu?) if the flashlight should be killed at 15% or not.
Not the developers.

Even with my power saver totally disabled,my flashlight won't work at under30%. But what frustrates me more is that the flash won't work on the camera either. Please I want the flash to work even at 5%!

The answer I've been waiting for for 6 years :victory:
Well that's really the question, what's the best battery usage consumption application. I don't want to see battery % remaining but -mA used, especially while the device sleeps.
My two choices are Battery monitor widget or current widget but I'm happy to consider another product. I've read concerns in the forum that battery monitor widget reports numbers too low.
I use LBC Rom and the latest radio. But, I'd prefer it if this thread didn't turn into a custom rom battery usage comparison thread.
While sleeping Battery monitor widget reports -5mA to -7mA on my device and near identical figures on my wife's stock (v 1.30) with old radio. Where as with current widget I see -10mA to -12mA?
Has anyone tried adjusting the battery monitor widget-> monitoring-> mA retrieval method Setting? If so what setting do you use/recommend?
EDIT: Normally use Auto but tried HTC devices and all that was reported was a stream of 0mA
Also there is an option in current widget-> log options-> force log in sleep mode do people use this? I do. Does either application have any other must have options that I may be missing?
Many thanks for your input....

you are supposed to get around 5ma but many people using the desire S didn't get anything below 10ma ,so maybe this problem got fixed in the newer devices?
@ben battery monitor widget shows the battery left in mv
& i am unable to get anything below 10ma on any ROM and radio i use
ill give current widget a try
I've tried both, my Battery Monitor Widget never goes below 14mA when idle, and Current Widget never goes below 28mA. It seems Current Widget shows twice the amount of BMW.

I'm talking about just sleeping, absolutely no activity, mobile data turned off and auto sync switched off, it is possible to get the same low numbers with wifi on but theres a known battery drainage issue with the wifi.

Yes that's what I meant. During sleep, the lowest value I saw on BMW was 14 and the lowest I seen on Current Widget is 28, i.e. double.

My Evo seems to log just fine while sleep without it. I tried enabling this and notice no difference. I guess it's to be used if your device has trouble logging while sleep.
Hey guys,
probably you have noticed that the Sensation won't let you use the LED flash to take pictures when the battery is low (around 25%).
I find this very annoying, since 25% is not less enough for me to have my LED flash blocked.
Especially since I have to use the LED for pictures at night, where my battery is usually low, this function is absolutely stupid.
Is there a way to turn this off, so that I can use the LED to take pictures no matter how much battery charge I have?
PS:
Still looking for a way to turn off textreflow permanently:

The easiest way is to just download one of the thousands of flashlights in the market. The no LED light isnt a system wide thing it is only in the Flashlight app and Camera app. Download a new flashlight from the market and your good to go whatever your battery is.
I am wondering if there is a correction for this as well, not so much for the flashlight, but for the camera.
Could there be someting in the camera.apk or the prop build?
Actually the flashlight is not important to me, but the flash at the camera app.
Maybe I should have chosen another subject for the thread.
I want to know how to take pictures with the flash, even when the battery has low charge.
Settings/power/enable power saver....uncheck it.it works for me.

Hm. I have unchecked 'power saver' and when I have <30% battery, I can't use flash in apps and in camera.
So strange.
Very strange.
Am now on 6% and still able to use flash.
I know that 10 % should be the lowest point,i think.i didnt do anything it just works

It appears to be pretty random when your battery foces your LED to stop.
Once I had 37% battery and it told me that my battery is to low to use the LED light.
However it's really annoying. Non of the suggested settings here work.
I think this issue can't be solved without a mod of the camera app.
Any one having better luck with the flash on stock roms BEFORE the ota update? Just wondering if this is something else that the update broke...

What?
I am not a programmer, but I guess it would be possible to modify the camera apk in a way that it doesn't block your LED flash anymore.

What i was saying is i wonder if people are having more issues with the camera flash/low battery issue before or after the update, indicating that the update has fixed the issue or left it the same.
Has someone come out with a solution or a Mod for this problem... I have 29% and it won't let me use flash...:-/

I never had a chance to use it before the update, so I don't know, but it definitely has the 30% limit after the update.
So I'm assuming none of you use custom kernels. Faux kernel can flash till batt is at 10%. Not sure about bricked but I know its also modified

This doesn't work for some users.
I am having the same issue. Hits about 25% and the flash in any Camera app doesn't work. I can still use the flash with a flashlight app. Doesn't matter if power saver is off or on.
Hello,
I got this problem
Today i flashed insertcoin 3.4.6 and played a little with it
At certain point i wanted to take a photo, battery was at 27% and this error appears.. Strange
In which way i can pass this error? I disabled all energy menagement
Is there a way to use flash at every battery %? because the phone let me use torch without problems...
Can the battery need to be calibrated or something like ?
Thanks
It's a kernel issue. They can't really do anything until the kernel source is released.

I'm at 29% and it continues to say battery is too low..

Better Battery Stats
Start by installing Better Battery Stats:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
That will help pinpoint what is running the battery.
If you lose 10% in like 30 minutes, that means that whatever you're doing, you can do that for like 5 hours. That may not be bad at all, depending on what it is you're doing.
Of course, if you're doing nothing and have the device in your pocket or on your desk with the screen off, 5 hours really bad.

Can you explain how auto brightness causes battery drain, because that's new to me. I assume if I'm using the optimal backlight for the room, I'm using optimal battery.
If you're in a bright environment, brightness on the screen goes up with auto brightness
Manually set the screen brightness to low = less battery consumption

auto brightness doesn't even effect the battery performance. Speaking of "battery saver" apps, don't ever use those, it only makes the problem worse. I suggest don't use live wallpapers, end unnecesarry background apps, or just free the phone storage
