Newman N1 - General Questions and Answers

Guys, what can you tell me about the Newman N1? I googled it and I found out that Newman is a Chinese company. It has really high specs(higher than my Nexus S :crying: ) . My friend recently bought it, so I thought I'd post here to find out more. I am worried because similar phones with similar specs (Atrix 2 specifically) are almost at double the price. Is the company reliable? Is it worth the money he spent??

I'm getting mine either this week or next. The pre-order is being processed. So, will let you know if it's worth while or worth none.

I got one a couple days ago. I feel impressed at first touch, the quality of assembly is good, it feel firmly.
What I like
1. The design and the dimension is good, not too big thin or thick.
2. The screen solution is good, but the shade of color look bit blue.
3. for gaming, I have tried on Asphalt 6 and Dead trigger, so smooth.
4. Speaker is loud enough to hear and the quality of sound and phone, for me, is acceptable.
What I don't like
1. The screen has white light around the corner of screen, It doesn't make a screen completely black as It should be when compare to LED screen
2. Auto brightness is too sensitive, it adjust the light to quick. when I scroll the screen with forefinger and my middle finger shade on the sensor, less than a sec, it already adjust the light.
3. The seller gave me the wrong spec, this phone does not support WCDMA on 850 but 900 mhz
4. I don't understand while the make the CPU go high at 1001mhz all the time when charging.
Other things look good, I still need more time, but for just less than $200 I thought it is really worth to have one.

Thank you I used my friends N1 . The screen is not viewable from all angles unless on full brightness. The battery life is sadly very very poor!
How much is the clock? 1Ghz?

Clock is max at 1 ghz.
I confirm that battery life is very poor, in deep sleep mode it's ok, only about 10% overnight (6-8 hours). but when using, it goes down quickly.
I thought It might be some problem about CPU state, from CPUSPY, it shows that cpu always run in both 250 and 1001 mhz, even just slide the screen or get in setting menu.
I already reported this to manufacturer by email in their website but still no response.

It is dual core right? Per core 1 Ghz or totally 1ghz?
And it somehow seems to reject standard android chargers and will work only with the one newman provides. That is kind of a bummer. Also, no headphones provided and other headphones produce terrible quality!

I did found out a few things too. Can't give a review yesterday as it was having issues and had to take another day just to confirm it.
P.s. It is scratch resistant. Not scratch proof. Am having a fine line about 1-1.5cm in length.

The thing is there is no scratch guard available for it anywhere! So there's pretty much no option but to handle it with care!
Man 2 lines in 2 days. It must be very very less resistant

I'll help you. I'll do a little research on it!

Well it is definitely better than Newman N1. Huawei is much better known than Newman also.

Mine came with screen guard in the box. you should check with your seller.
Huawei is better known brand but it will cost you $80 more for the same hardware
more review
with max brightness, it is still not enough for outdoor.
Please remind that this phone support 3G on 900/1900/2100 not 850 mhz.

No worries. 3G damn expensive where I live. I use 2G only!
I agree huawei will cost more, but it is guaranteed to perform right? And the screen issues won't occur!
Also some apps are incompatible with this, although they meet all the requirements.
Would you happen to know how to root N1?

Looking a the cpu usage: by default it is at 100% 1ghz speed constantly . If u have setcpu, you will be able to set the governor to different profiles.
I used on demand profile with the battery charged from 100% since I unplugged at 8am in the morning. At 4pm, battery was at 75%. Slight usage of 3g and calls, less than an hour of onscreen viewing. (was having meeting)
On demand option is usage at 100% cpu speed when u use a certain app/apps. Else, it will revert to 250mhz.
Why it makes a lot of difference because before I used setcpu, battery depletion is much faster. With this, I managed to get through the whole day.
Do be mindful that the battery life is only 1700mh.
That's one on cpu..as I'm typing from the phone itself, from 5 to 5.24pm, it has dropped only to 60%.

Hi.
I have also ordered the Newman N1 and it will be shipped out next week.
I came with some help for those are having issues with the phone.
You probably didn't know that Newman has an official forum, right?
Here's the forum: http://bbs.newman.mobi/forum.php
Please register to the forum (use google translate plug-in if you don't understand Chinese (me neither)).
Newman has official updates to this phone, the newest is 1.0.6, so please check in your settings which version you have, and update to the newest to see if it resolve problems.
This is the section of the forum, where the official ROMs goes: http://bbs.newman.mobi/forum-115-1.html
First there are sticky threads in every section, do not pay attention to it, because the roms are under it (the last threads, under that line).
The roms download sites are also in chinese and some require registration, some not, and you may need to reply to some threads to see hidden content, but it is written if it requires it.
There are a lot of custom roms here: http://bbs.newman.mobi/forum-95-1.html
In this section there's not only custom roms, but also a lot of another topics too, so it is not easy to find the roms, but usually the ones with colorized thread name are the roms to pay attention.
Also there are a lot of reviews (also in chinese) of the phone here: http://bbs.newman.mobi/forum-93-1.html
Somewhere in the forum are also instructions on how to update the roms etc.
If you update to the latest official/custom rom then I think that some problems may resolved.
So it is good to know that there are a forum.
But it would be good if more people would know this phone, so they would be amazed that it has dual core, qhd, 8 mp, ics etc and it only costs $200 with shipping! (I purchased it for $173.5 with free shipping, gift leather case and gift 4gb micro sd card)
Then this topic would be popular and we may get a seperate thread for the phone here on xda, so that we would get good custom roms for it!
So go and popularize this great phone!
Edit: this phone have gorilla glass!
There are 3 different videos on the internet proofing that it is gorilla glass (in one of the videos the man drops it from about 2.5 meters to the floor and it don't have any scratches!
If you are interested, I can link the videos.

Wow! Like marketing the item. Haha. Joking ya.
Anyway, just finished taking pics of the phone. Will update again

[Q] Anyone else hugely disappointed with the build quality?

So I was dying to get one of these on launch day and when I finally received mine, it had a squeaky left bezel, bad light bleed on the left and right, and minor light bleed on the other sides. The squeaking and light bleed was so bad that there was no way I was keeping it.
Luckily, I received another one the next day. The bezel on this one was good, no squeaks and the light bleed was very tolerable. It also has a couple of specs of dust under the screen but they haven't really bother me. So I returned my first one and have been using this one for two weeks now and have been loving it.
I then received the 32GB version today. The bezel has no squeaks but there are multiple specs of dust under the screen and there are also a couple of tiny chips in the glass. WTF!!
I really wanted the 32GB version but after my experience with the three tablets I am just sticking with the one I've been using and returning it. I think $400 is the max I want to spend on a product with horrible quality control. I'm even worried that the one I've been using is gonna start developing problems over the next few months! I'm also afraid of exchanging because there is a good chance the replacement will be the same or worse than the original.
It's just very frustrating. I can't remember any other product I've purchased that had so many quality control issues right out of the box. Anyone else feel the same way I do?
If you're a Facebook member, let them know your thoughts.
https://www.facebook.com/ASUSEee/posts/199073926802680
At least your touch screen is working! (link)
Anyway, the best way to have ASUS improve their quality control is probably returning all the bad ones (so that they are financially concerned), as well as calling their customer service number to complain.
Sorry to hear you have had problems but I must say my experience (thus far) has been excellent my unit feels solid, no dead pixels, no dust and minimal light-bleed, just a touch at the bottom and the right side that is only even slightly noticeable on rare occasions.
Only thing I'm not 100% happy about is the battery life, the dock seems to drain like a tap! Maybe it will settle down after a few cycles and I think a firmware fix is in the pipeline for this.
mine is fine. No issues with build quality here. First batch model by the way.
If u wanna see some serious light bleed try a ipad2 under full brightness. Its extremly worse than my transformer

Please do! lol. I have mine coming from walmart in the next few days, but reading all these horror stories makes me really worried.
Other than some minor light bleeding in the bottom middle and feeling a little fragile, mine is fine. The light bleed is less than I am used to from an iPad.

It's all the luck of the draw. Some peep will have bad luck & get bad ones, while the lucky ones get a perfect model.
QA on anything have gone to ****s over the years. They know they can get away with it. They just produce & ship. If they get a return, the will just ship out another, etc.....

Very true. Both r ips. U won't get iphone/galaxy quality led screen here. Ips is really good quality, best among tablets, but its still lcd based, with backlight. U won't get a 10.1" samoled screen for 400 lol. My light bleed is only barely noticeable in pitch dark, with 60% brightness.

Xreflection, got mine from Walmart last Wednesday when they had that brief selling period (after 6 previous cancellations I received from various places)...arrived 'next day' on Friday. It's great! No screen bleeding, pixels are fine, case is fine - I'm well pleased!
And Yelp I was a little worried, too. But, it's great...so snappy on the wifi where I know having iPad1 had a lot of wifi problems that I returned it- I don't with this-happy customer! Have fun!
I returned my second TF due to a speaker failure issue. I returned my first due to the speaker volume out of sync issue. Im not sure if its a problem with pieces from same batch. Im scouting again online hopefully to get a peice from subsequent batches maybe which wont have the issue. I like the experience on the device though
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Very happy with mine! I have slight light bleed at the bottom left but that's the only issue. Doesn't bother me though as I only see it when it's a black screen which isn't very often.
Mine is fine and I am loving it. The toshiba folio 100 was a pig and deserved all the bad press.
This is a million times better user experience for me and lots of the apple fans are complaining too, if they can't get it right with ips, who can?
If asus keep developing and get a decent quad core with ips to market, then i will defiantly upgrade.
Apple ips light bleed
Another apple light bleed story
I can see why you might be disappointed, Its not perfect, but it is the best one i have used.
I bought two TF's and one dock. The first TF went sleep and never woke up. I sent it to ASUS, they still have it. My second is running great. No issues with it whatsoever. The dock works great also. I'm very happy with the build quality of all three items.

Hey guys, my unboxing video is up!
Thanks for the video, looking forward to the full review. I've got one on (pre-)order from Gearbest. Please include some (graphics) benchmarks, a GPS test, and check the maximum cpu frequency as there seem to be a lot of poor perfoming 1Ghz MT6735 Socs out there. Allthough your preliminary Antutu score of 27.000 seems to indicate the MX Base is running at the full 1.3Ghz.

Thanks for the review, looks like a solid phone. Too bad about the IR Blaster and the mediocre camera. But no deal breakers for me.
I hope Gearbest get off their *ss and ship my phone out. Yesterday they told me it would be at least two more weeks, today they said one or two days. Fingers crossed it will be the latter.
Is it preordered item? And it's real shipping content without TPU case? As we know Mlais promised to add Glass screen protector AND TPU case, which isn't presented in latest video.

Well Gearbest kept their word for a change. My Mlais MX Base is on its way. Shipped via Netherlands Post, which has been pretty quick for me in the past (but then again, I live in the Netherlands, which might help).
Curious to find out if the screen protector and tpu case are included.

I have a Yu Yutopia. AMA

Hey guys,
I have a Yu Yutopia with me and I am guessing a lot of you must be having queries about it. Please feel free to ask them.
My initial impressions of the phone so far:
1) Really impressed with the build quality. The phone feels solid in hand. Even better than the OnePlus 2 if you ask me. Did not expect this at all.
2) I love the One glass solution, but the colors and saturation levels of the display are wayyy off.
3) The fingerprint scanner works reliably. No issues with it.
4) The camera app is a big disappointment. Same as the one found on the OnePlus One. Slow.
5) The rear speaker is a joke
6) The phone does heat up while gaming. Playing Asphalt 8 for a few minutes was enough for the phone to heat up.
7) Cyanogen OS 12.1 is buggy.

Software. Yutopia is very buggy. With the X Style, you will get quick updates. And Snapdragon 810 being more powerful than the Snapdragon 808 is not really a big deal since the former overheats a lot and quickly throttles down.

First of all i am a YUTOPIA owner and have been using it for two weeks now.
The YU Yutopia is an awesome device if u go by its build quality. The All metal body,Integrated antenna bands, QHD screen and the Sound quality all screams the word PREMIUM!! A device worthy of its price. From the box it arrives in to the included components it is a well packed one.
The biggest con i felt is the OS. Cyanogen 12.1 has lots of potential, but the included one with the phone has lots of bugs.It has the january patch of android included though.Still there are some big bugs.
For instance, If the phine is charging and u turn the screen on (without unlocking) and keep it like that..the screen gets unlocked(even when locked with a fingerprint or a pin or a pattern) in five mins. so thats a major bug.
The camera focus lags in certain conditions and heating is present in some conditions. But these are all issues of CM 12.1 and not the phone. So it can be fixed in a future update i guess.
The pros of the phone include its build, quickcharge, massive battery and the screen. Its a delight to watch movies. The included House of marley earphones are of good quality. AudioFX with DTS is amazing and the sound is truly amazing when heard with this setting on.
i would say,if u are patient enough to wait for software updates, then this phone is worth every penny. Else u may go for one plus 2 which has no quickcharge and has the same chip. Heating is a SD810 issue and cannot be fully avoided in both phones. But that too is resolved to some extent by thermal management settings by YU. I guess it will be better once CM 13 based on MM is released.
The fingerprint issues also will be be solved by MM update as it s a native feature included in MM.
SO..the final choice lies with YU!:good:

Battery backup depends on your usage. If using 3G and continous use ( gaming, browsing, whatsapp etc) will get you around 14 hours. Else it lasts more on WiFi and easily lasts more than a day on intermittent use of 3G.
BTW..it has quickcharge 2.0 which will get u from 5% battery to 90% in one and half hours. The last ten % takes half hour.
wifi hotspot detection issue
Hi,
I purchased a Yu Yutopia yesterday and was initially impressed with the packaging and the build quality. While setting up the phone, I noticed that the phone was unable to detect the portable airtel 4g wifi hotspot. All my other phones like the One Plus X, Blackberry and Moto g1 were able to detect it but this phonewas unable to detect it. I tried making the one plus a mobile hotspot to check if it could detect my mobile hotspot and it seemed to detect it and every other wifi except this 4g hotspot wifi. I tried to factory reset the phone but it still shows the same issue and is unable to detect it. What do I do???
Please help me.
Its a piece of crap
my friend have this after 1 week phone got dead
I'm thinking to buy Yutopia. But can anyone share a video of it's LED Notification light with various colours? I have seen many videos but no impressed as I saw is only a tiny green light. Please upload a video of LED Notification light in use
Tell me about its camera quality can i compare its camera to Nexus 5x or this same as badd as other micromax phone
Like Good at day & a Low quality at night or kow light
Laggy type.???
alternate Camera app
Hi Yutopia users,
anyone using alternate better app for stock camera?
I have tried snapdragon camera but issue is it only supports 13MP. pls suggesti for alternate better camera app.

My impressions/review of the phone, in small episodes

I have been putting out information about U11+ in hamdir's thread for couple of days. I thought may be I should collate all the information and create a thread. So, here it is. Note that I am going to keep adding stuff as I use the phone everyday to point out the good the bad and the ugly. Go ahead and ask questions. If its possible for me, I will try to answer.
Quick update
Very quick update folks....
I got the amazing silver in my hands now. Been fiddling with options etc. for last 30 mins.
It a thing of beauty, let me tell you that first and foremost!! Amazing silver is really a shiny light blue colour. I love it!
Indoors, its brighter than my HTC 10 Tianma display. By how much? I don't know but its uncomfortably high for me at max. I won't use it at anywhere close to max. May be around 50%. Can't compare outdoor in direct sunlight until tomorrow. Will update again.
The weight is not a concern for me, its a little bit more than my 10 but not by much. The screen is gorgeous and much better than 10!!
The FP scanner is a little bit of a problem for me because I am not used to the rear scanner. I am finding it odd to pick the phone to use it. But I knew this going in. So, some mental recalibration is necessary. I can see OCD types hating this aspect, but I am fine with it.

Couple of more quick updates:
1. Speakers are much better than HTC 10. Louder and clearer. You would be very pleased to hear these if you upgrade from HTC 10. Just saw the infinity war trailer on it and listened through Thriller....
2. Lowest screen brightness gets very low. Good for night time, in-dark browsing. Much lower than HTC 10.
3. The screen gets much blacker than HTC10 in "day dream" or "always on" mode in the complete darkness, which may help with battery if you are thinking of keeping AOD on always. The "light bleed" associated with LCD panels is still there through. In fact, its little uneven compared to HTC 10. On HTC 10, you can clearly see that the whole screen is lit up but only the text is brighter. On U11+, the lower left part of the screen is almost complete black whereas the right side shows more light bleed. I don't know if its a defect in my unit or its just something impossible to achieve during LCD panel manufacturing. Not perfection but not a big deal for me.
The default is not AOD but it is turn on the dimly lit display when you pick up the phone.
Double tap to wake works (someone asked earlier). On display button let's you put it to sleep in case you don't want to press power button to lock/put it sleep.
So far, thrilled to get this phone. I hope we work out TWRP really quick, root and I can move to this phone as my daily driver.

GSMArena got the battery life wrong on this phone or they tested a different phone. I have been setting up, installing apps, syncing email accounts and generally fiddling with this phone for past 3-4 hours with 1h40m of SOT (screen brightness at 50% with Auto on, my typical setting for HTC 10) and it has consumed about 16% of battery. Haven't got that kind of battery life from any phone I have used or seen anybody else use in practical terms (I don't believe in artificial benchmarks). I think there is nothing to worry about battery life on this phone. This will last even the big time users through the day (10-12 hour day) easily.
One thing i notice is that its idling very well when turned off. My HTC 10 did not do that very well. So, the wifi chip seems to have been fixed up.
Note that its running 8.0.0 with Oct 1st patch. So, this has to still get the 8.1.1 release, which potentially should improve things.

Its still morning here in bay area and not afternoon sunny yet. But with the morning sun behind me, I can clearly say that U11+ is better than my HTC10. With HTC camera app, I looked through a chain of balconies shaded by trees, and sun behind me, to see how far each screen shows me. Side by side, I could see more detail and farther in U11+. This is highly unscientific but the brightness in sunlight is an upgrade from HTC10 Tianma to U11+. I will try to get some photos of the two phones' camera app in sunlight later in the day.
I think brightness jump is not huge from HTC 10, but its big enough for me to say I feel more comfortable taking photos/videos outdoors. Note that Camera sensor may also be playing a role in this. HTC 10 has a smaller f/1.8 aperture. So, more testing may be needed on the screen brightness in general. But practically speaking, I browsed around and I had no trouble reading text with sun behind me, falling directly on the phone. That's good for me, 500 nits or not.
I tried with both Auto brightness enabled and disabled, at max brightness. Results are same.

Someone had asked for 4G/LTE support in the US. At least in the area I am in (bay area, CA), the coverage is same as what I got in HTC 10 on T Mobile.
Regarding the wifi, its much better than HTC 10. I compared side by side and HTC10 needed to be closer to the router by about 10 feet to be able to do speedtest from the point where I could speedtest on U11+ and still get full 90Mbps download speed. U11+ has an excellent wifi range and throughput. I get around -71dBm (signal strength) from my router at a spot where my HTC10 gives me -83dBm. At that spot, U11+ maxes out the internet traffic, whereas 10 is limited to about 45Mbps. So, anyone with HTC 10 will appreciate the huge jump in performance of wifi.
Also, the idling issue found with HTC 10's wifi is not there in U11+. It does not eat through battery while idling on wifi.

Couple of more inputs:
1. I went to work with the phone but unfortunately I did not have the other phones with me to click the photos in bright sunlight but I can tell you, the screen has no problems in the sun. It is very bright and very usable for me. Unless you have a defective unit, the brightness of the screen should not be a concern at all. My experience is only HTC 10 vs U11+, and I am loving the brightness upgrade.
2. Usage with my sunglasses. I can not use HTC 10 in portrait mode with my sunglasses on. It goes complete dark. I did not have any issues with U11+ in both portrait and landscape orientations. Am I thrilled to wear my sunglasses in the car again? HELL YEAH!!!

Make your M7 a cosy bed in that drawer because its going in there for sure and for a long time.... U11+ is big upgrade (from M7 and 10, both of which I own) in sound department, both the speakers and the USB-C headphone jack, through the bundled earbuds. I have found the bundled USB-C earbuds to be of very high quality. I usually throw away packaged earbuds because they usually fall off from my ear but these fit in my ear very well. And boy they block the noise!!! I have no complaints about the missing 3.5mm jack.

Did you hook it up to the TV yet? I wonder why nobody does that. It's a very useful feature that not many modern smartphones offer unfortunately.
I wish HTC would advertise this special feature a bit more... It's underrated and underreported.
Thank you for all this info.
I Pre-Ordered one but I was skeptical with THE BAD review that I read.
I was thinking of canceling my order but now I just can't wait to get my hands on it

Honestly, I don't use this feature anymore. In fact, with casting feature working so well (AC wifi) and its so very convenient compared to the wire, casting gets used most of the time. I used to do this but I never bothered to buy the USB-C cable with my HTC 10.
May be I will try this again. Try some gaming on the big TV screen, fun fun fun!!
screen casting with chromecast or similar technologies always has a noticeable lag of 1-2 seconds. With direct cable connection there is no lag.

And what cable did you use? Thanks.
So can you please describe us the AOD(always on display)feature how it works with HTC.
Does it have the same customization option as with Samsung or LG(v30)with variety of clock or colors option, image background support, music control(play-pause-forward) and if support notifications from any kind app.
Also when receiving notification and hit it on the screen does it open directly the specific app or not.

AOD on HTC U11+, in my opinion, leaves a lot to be desired. Few observations:
1. It only has two modes: a. show dimly lit clock/lock screen when picked up, b. always on mode, which is fixed 24/7 or on a time schedule. It lacks the mode "show dimly lit clock/lock screen when notifications arrive and repeat every 5 mins until cancelled".
2. Always On mode is a hog. Nearly 2% per hour idling. Not very useful. Its darker than any LCD I have seen before but it still show most of the display in complete darkness.
It does not provide any customization in either mode. You get 4 types of clock and that's about it. It shows apps (including music app) and their notifications with icons on small area and clicking takes to the app after unlock.

I don't have bluetooth headsets to test this sorry.
But the display is the best LCD I have seen. It can not be equal to amoled in terms of blacks, but its the closest that an LCD has come in terms of blacks. I think the LCD technology does not allow this any better compared to amoled in terms of blacks. The contrast is amazing and the brightness is very very good. The usage in direct sunlight is very comfortable.
Unless you want to knit pick (like always on display has slight light bleed, which is the result of them trying too hard to emulate "black"), you won't have any issues with this display.

I specifically bought the HDMI->USB-C cable from Amazon for $19 (one of the most expensive cables I have bought) and tested it. It works great. No lags in the video (my TV is 1080p). The sound through my sound system sounded great.
The link to cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075JGM4W8
Idle drain is very minimal
It looks like wifi draining the battery when idling that was seen and documented by me on HTC10, is gone on U11+. I left the sync ON, data and wifi ON overnight. And I lost 2% battery in about 10 hours. This is how it should be.
Very very pleased with the battery and the phone overall. For me, this phone gets almost everything right. It will get better once I get hold of root on it.

how about the audio quality of headphones ?
Does the phone get hot with brightness on max? Or during heavy downloading of Apps or charging?
How long does a full charge take?
Are you using a case / cover? Noticed any scratches on the back?
Does YouTube allow you to stretch to full screen?
Thanks!

Great feedback on this device. Thanks for doing this @devsk
I am in SF also. I have been seriously torn about buying a international no warranty phone. I jumped to the LG V30, purchased from B & H then cancelled the order a couple days ago.
However, I ordered the U11+ last night from Amazon - NGP Store USA. They get decent reviews but have a really strict return policy. I tried the U11 earlier this year but returned it. The U11+ had all the U11 was missing + more. [emoji3]
-- Who did you buy from and did you entertain buying a warranty? If so, from who.
-- Cases seem to be limited. Do you purchase one?
Thanks.

I did not buy a warranty. I took a chance and its been fine so far. The quality of the device and manufacturing is very very high. I am very pleased with the whole experience. Do not believe anybody who disses this device. It checks pretty much every box I had. Biggest thing is Treble. I expect to run well supported AOSP on this thing.
I am using the bundled transparent case and I am fine with it. Its minimal and it shows off the amazing silver very well.

This phone does not get hot under any circumstances (brightness or extended play). I have it in the bundled minimal case, and I played racing games for extended periods of time (connected to my TV using a USB-C to HDMI adapter). It drove the TV's 1080p display without any delay and with great sound! It felt warm after an hour of play but I would qualify that a lukewarm. My HTC 10 definitely gets much warmer than U11+. So, its an upgrade for me.

It depends on the video's aspect ratio. For example, Inifinity War Trailer filled the screen but apple sway ad did not. It does not stretch in general and I think that's the right thing to do. I would not like videos with a different native aspect ratio than 2:1 to stretch and show all stretched faces etc.

Essential phone weight theory

A while ago, i saw a post regarding the weight of the essential phone changed from the older devices. when i went to best buy to exchange it, it weighed noticeably heavier than the previous phone i had. also, the last phone had a slippery gloss and had problems. the new one i replaced hasnt given me a problem and im quite happy with it because some usual bugs others experienced.
i dont know what the weight of the last one is, but what i want to make a thread of is have your phone weighed, post the weight and reply with the list of issues and feel of the device. lets see if there theres any theory to this.
so my phone is:
.4lbs or 6.4 oz.
not that slippery compared to the last one
camera works pretty good
doesnt get hot easily, battery life lasts 5-6 hours on screen time
Interesting that phones would have different weights.
6.6 oz on a postal scale. Purchased yesterday, haven't started using it yet.

Yes, well, phone, sim card and original plastic film protector things that were on it in the box.
Anyone else?
If I had a way to measure I would, I'm curious. Mine is a white sprint variant and the finish is glossy but I'm not sure what to compare it to, it's not slippery though.
