What can I do?

Galaxy S2 running 4.03, not working using the latest version posted (11)
Runs through the process of pushing busybox, su etc, says it is done after the reboot but I don't have root access per terminal.

Ditto... Samsung AT&T i727 S2 Skyrocket running 4.0.4 UCLF6 - bin4ry v15 says it succeeded, but Root Check'd, no joy...

I know this is an older post, but

I was wondering if this would work on the offshoots of the GS2? I have an Epic 4g Touch.

Bin4ry. Sir, I need your help please. I tried to root my phone, a local brand, running on ICS 4.0.4 and every time I try to root it using your program, it keeps telling me "mount: permission denied (are you root?)".. What does this mean? How can I fix this so that I can successfully root my phone? thanks! I tried several times and used different computers but it just keeps giving me the same error message.
I really need help coz' I want to root my phone and install Link2sd so that I can no longer have low internal memory problems.
Cheers!

Problem with MTK6577 phone
I am having the same problem with my S3 clone.. Ordered the phone from Amazon and it does not have any manufacturer name. It was advertised as Phecda i9300.. It runs with mtk6577 processor..
The problem is exactly the same.. I get the option to Restore data and then phone reboots.. After that the mount permission denied error appears.. There is no change on the phone.. Confirmed that root is not there in the phone through Root Checker app.. Any help?

[Q] Restore Root - Stuck

Hopefully someone can help me out on this one because I'm not quite sure what to do at this point. I have a G2x that was having multiple issues so I decided to root and install clockworkmod recovery so that I could flash CM7RC1. I flash CM7RC1 successfully but failed to realize that I did not properly install CWM as I accessed it via ROM manager (lack of proper reading on my part). Since going to CM7RC1 I've lost root and am unable to use Super One Click 1.9.1.0 to get it back. I seem to have lost all Linux commands (ls won't even work through the terminal emulator) so when Super One Click runs it says FAIL as it cannot chmod or mount. If you have any idea on how I can restore root or CWM let me know. Thanks!

HA! Well be that as it may, is there anything I can do...or am I stuck?
Fixed the issue by NVFlashing Clockworkmod recovery with TGA_Gunnman's excellent one-click utility. After that it was easy to restore the backup I had made.

I'm too new of a member to be able to post my issue in that forum so I will post it here.
I got to the point where It checked for updates on the phone, then starts to reboot, and during the reboot the program continues and starts giving more errors. I didn't see a similar issue in the thread that pertained to my particular issue. Here is the error I'm getting :

Check your app drawer for SuperSU. If it's there click it and see if you can update the binary. If you can, you're rooted. If you can't or if it's not there than you need to repeat the process until it works.

Yep, youre rooted. Now go and get that bootloader unlocked and flash CleanROM!
Okay so I rooted and unlocked BL. I also used fastboot to flash CWM, but when I try to boot into recovery, it just gets stuck on the "HTC Quietly Brilliant" page and a message in red text underneath.
I've tried reflashing it a few times and no results.
Hello,
Try downloading Goomanager in Google Play and going to "options" install recovery script, it isn't CWM but I actually like it much more. Good Luck

[Root] Please test new rooting idea

Hi all,
well i made a small script to root Xperia devices, as it turns out more devices are affected to this.
Paul O'Brien over at Modaco tested it on his Nexus 7 [UK] and it worked, well some users in my thread over @ Xperia S section report it not working and some report it working.
I am opening this thread to get the idea why it is working for some users and why not for others.
So, as i don't have this device i cannot test it myself, so if you are a interested user or maybe a dev feel free to test it. Maybe you even get the idea why it is working on some and not on others. (BTW, are there any diffs between UK and other devices? How many firmwares are out for the device? Can i download somewhere firmware dumps?)
Paul's test: http://www.modaco.com/page/news/_/android/a-new-and-effective-root-method-for-ics-jb-r715
Best Regards
I will try it now with my UK device.
The device is STOCK, Bootloader locked and updated to the latest JB Build via OTA.
Will report back after my try.
EDIT:
It doesn't work for me:

Ad Version 2: It doesn't ask me to restore 2 times. Only the first time it asks me and then the Nexus 7 reboots.
Ok thanks for this test.
Can you tell me if there is a /data/local.prop already present in you firmware version? If yes we need to alter the script a little, hopefully it can work then.
I am not sure which firmware version Paul tested, but i have a few feedbacks telling it works, so i suggest it is a firmware version "problem".

Thanks for your answer.
Since I don't have root I can't answer you this question because /data is inaccessible.
The rooting success of Paul is the same as with the HTC One X. He could achieve root trough such a script with his One X, all the others couldn't.

Strange thing.
Can you try something for me ?
Do this manually:
adb restore stuff/fakebackup.ab
Do not click restore YET!
next command:
adb shell "while ! ln -s /data /data/data/com.android.settings/a/file99; do :; done" > NUL
this command will automatically stop when it "worked". Once this command runs please click restore on device!
Now please give me a:
adb shell "ls -ld /data"
I want to know if it changes the permissions of data folder, if all is fine it should be permissions of 777. Maybe then you can check for local.prop and if present rename or remove it

Ok thanks for the test. Too bad, it does not change the permissions, maybe there is something preventing it. For now i have no idea, but any dev can freely adapt the intial idea of the script. If someone owns this device i think it the basic idea maybe useful. As for now it seems all devices are initially vulnerable to the "problem", only a way to use it have to be found.
Regards

I think this, and things similar to this, are your problem as you already need root to access those folders.
Without root any running app/process is only allowed to access it's own subfolder in /data/data, nothing else.
This kind of works for me, clockwork mod says I'm rooted but titanium backup says I'm not.
I can't install clockwork mod recovery from the app. Something about assigning permissions.
My boot loader is unlocked. Dunno if that helps.

Have you got Superuser or SuperSU installed?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using my toiletpaper
Yes SuperUser only because the script bin4ry posted contains the superuser.apk and installs it.

This is not true, it is exactly the trick my scipt uses, in the moment you press restore in the Android Restore Service you will gain access to the partition
@Spazz Monk3y: I added v9 maybe it works now properly, in some old versions i had a nasty bug for giving permissions to su binary. Introduced because i wanted to make a singleline command and forgot atleast 1 command inside my line :crying:

[GUIDE] [TOOL] Rooting the "First ICS 4.0.4 Full 3D ROM Ported From SU760"

UPDATE: This didn't work for me on the official ICS ROM. YMMV.
I did try this guide:
[GUIDE] [SU760] How to ROOT V29C/D ICS
but it didn't work for me...
So I tried the script posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31963526&postcount=532
and it worked really well!
Steps
--------------
* Get version 1.2 of adb_restore_rooting if you can't unpack v1.6 with your current unzipper
* Unpack the archive
* Turn on USB debugging on your phone (Developer options)
* Execute rooting.bat
* Follow the instructions on screen
* When it says "Done!", press return on your PC and it should complete the process.
Note: For those who really want to use v1.6, install 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.com/). Thanks MoYo!
thanx bro.
Cheers mate first method failed for me also this worked a treat wkpark strikes again
Just to be correct, before to call a method "failed" maybe should be more important to know pre-requisites and why for some people may look to fail.
Anyway yes it's more easy with an automatic script

Anyway yes it's more easy with an automatic script

Indeed. I got the exact same message over and over.
I think the script from wkpark does a better job cleaning things up before trying to root it again.
This method is easier well done.
Help please
For a simpleton such as myself can someone please give me a step by step on how to make this work?
It seems I need Linux to run a SH file? Alot to ask but can someone let me know how to do this on windows7 please
This Softbricked my phone, when I tried to restart it.

I've updated the instructions, the sh file was a mistake
Worked like a charm, thank you!
Worked perfect, thanks.
For those who have problems with the v1.6 of the archive -> Try 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.com/)
It's packed with 7-zip and you can extract it with it

I did try this guide:
[GUIDE] [SU760] How to ROOT V29C/D ICS
but it didn't work for me...
So I tried the script posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31963526&postcount=532
and it worked really well!
Steps
--------------
* Get version 1.2 of adb_restore_rooting if you can't unpack v1.6 with your current unzipper
* Unpack the archive
* Turn on USB debugging on your phone (Developer options)
* Execute rooting.bat
* Follow the instructions on screen
* When it says "Done!", press return on your PC and it should complete the process.
Note: For those who really want to use v1.6, install 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.com/). Thanks MoYo!

I did get this once. I set the USB setting to LG software and let it settle. No idea if this is a requirement.

Same here, tried it the second time now with 1.2. After hitting the restore button on the device, the console on pc said that rooting failed.
Then after trying to restart it gets stuck after the LG logo at a black screen.
Edit: Last try with 1.6 now.
Edit 2: Nah, still don't work. The error-log says this: "remote object '/data/local.prop' does not exist"

Final Steps of Rooting Issue (Using DooMLoRD's root.zip)

Hello
I am new / a noob... [For Below I have highlighted what the issue is in RED on the code part of the issue]
I have looked on this site for three days running. I have made steady progress towards rooting my HTC Sensation XE, as a noob I have download alsorts of unecessary things and misunderstood alot of what is describe but I have done well so far - I believe.
Brief run down of things done:
- Installed all required drivers
- used this awesome guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660831][All In One][Guide] How To Root...
- Follwed guide and currently down at Step 2.3 - open extracted zip folder and click runme. thats all. (if experience any daemon hanging problems pls install htc sync and plug in phone so drivers are installed. once done delete htc sync and repeat root procedure) PC will open a cmd screen with prompts that you need to follow. The app does rest... So its nice and easy
Ok so to the point of this thread.
I downloaded DooMLoRD's root.zip doo dar (Lack the correct terminollogy - Im a noob so handicap is allowed)
Extracted all files
Opened up the 'Run Me.exe'
A cmd pops up, with info of preparation before hiting any key.
I hit the any key and below is what I get:

This restarts my phone but nothing else.
I have the su apps on my phone, I have root explorer too.
I've looked in the \system\bin and \system\xbin for an su or something titled su or su binary
Can't find anything so I am worried about that. - does my phone have an su?
Also from the code above it mentions 'cannot open for write: read-only file...' how do I change this if this is the source of the problem?
If not, further down it mentions not being able to copy 'superuser.apk' over - do I remove this from the extracted files and replace with a current version?
Please can you experts help me out - I have searched the forums but they only resolve other makes / models.
Additional info is I didn't S-OFF as I couldn't understand what to do, but skipping that step I still got this far so unsure if I needed it.
I appolagise for the lengthy post but it should help shortlist possible problems down abit.
Thanks for reading.

Whilst waiting for a reply I had a browse through the search again and realised exactly what you told me.
used HTCdev and I am unlocked via bootloader.
so if I can't use DooMLoRDs stuff I decided to find others.
