[Q]How do you limit Google maps wake-ups? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for someway to lessen/ prevent Maps location sync service from waking up my phone every few seconds. I've tried turning off the location update with in the app and a good deal if the settings in Google now. Its killed a third of my battery according to better battery stats. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm on the ns4g sprint ota jb with thalamus' latest with idle 2 disabled.

Disable Location service in Latitude
Disable location in phone settings, both GPS + celltower
Using an app such as Autostarts or Gemini app manager, disable all starting events
That fixed it for me, forever. Never get any wake up anymore.

I'll try the Gemini and let you know

Juicedefender and google navigation

anyone else have issues with Juicedefender crashing in the background when using navigation?
Basically if I use navigation for a while my Juicedefender will lock up and block all data connections besides navigation. I still show a full connection but have 0 data access.
I have to disable/enable jd for any other app to work.

What version do you have? Have you setup all the options?

Ver 3.8.0
I've setup everything to the best of my knowledge. I'm not using the app specific traffic tracking options as I want it to kill data on screen lock.
It seems like jd gets confused by the fact that the screen locks behind the navigation screen and it doesn't know how to manage it.
still have an hour or two left on my drive home so I'm going to disable the screen lock security and see if that makes a difference .
I don't suppose there is a way to export the jd settings to text?

How to tell what app is using GPS?

I often see the GPS satellite symbol showing activity like some app is using my GPS when I dont have a GPS or navigation related app open. How can I tell what active process is using GPS at a given moment?
Thanks

Why don't you just disable it?

Because I want GPS to be ready when I do open a nav app. And I am curious if there's a way to tell what is using it.
Go to menu-system apps-running...
List all you have running when you see that gps symbol. My guess is that you may be signed into google latitude.
If it is latitude, go to google maps, settings, and somewhere in there is an option to sign out of latitude.
Its not latitude. Google sets GPS to sleep when apps are running in the background. Third party developers aren't as good as Google.
Anyone have a real answer and not a guess?
Searched very long for a solution and it was quite hard to find the solution working without root, so I'll post it here:
Get the app "GSAM Battery Monitor" from Google Play, on GSAM's start screen select "Application Usage",
then on top of the screen select to view the used GPS time.
Well, this doesn't show which app is using GPS right now but you can see how much time each app actually activated GPS since the last battery charge, so this is very helpful to determine the apps using GPS in the background.
Hi
Even if your gps is turned on, it dosen't necessarily means that gps is being used. Use Spare Parts app from play store and it'll show you what all apps used gps since you last plugged in your phone charger. And yes, don't use this app while your phone is being charged...otherwise the readings gets resetted.
Also, the android os uses gps continually, like the camera app, gallery app etc.

Tool to manage which apps can use GPS?

I have an app that seems to be making uneccesary use of GPS as reported by my system info on whats using up my battery.
I would like a tool to turn GPS on/off on a per-app basis, so some apps are led to think GPS is off and other apps see GPS as being on and proceed to use it.
Any suggestions?

Not useless. I want maps app to quickly get to GPS without me explicitly turning it on each time, but when I am not running maps, most other apps be barred from GPS to limit battery drain. I go one app hitting if for no good reason.

[Q] Battery Saving Mode

Is there a way so that when the battery dips below a certain threshold the phone can automatically disable things like Bluetooth or GPS to save battery? Is something like this built into JB (I'm on CM 10) or is there an adequate app for this functionality?
Hmm...I think there is. Try going to settings, profiles, and change up or play around with the default/home/work... settings. You can toggle WiFi, mobile data, Bluetooth... Etc

Tasker (app) does it. I think Llama does also and is free.

Gmail wakelocks really high?

Hi everyone,
I have a question about gmail and wakelocks. Im rooted, and stock. I use greenify and wakelock detector, I am experiencing very high Gmail cpu wake locks in Wakelock detectors, over 45 mins+ . When I click on it its says its *sync*/gmail-ls/com.google/ ... what is this exactly?
Is it my gmail constantly syncing? can I do much about this?

I'll try this now, Thank you
I've noticed the same but only when I put my phone in aeroplane mode. I haven't been using aeroplane mode before and I'm sure Gmail didn't make such amount of wakelocks with my normal usage. However, I didn't see any significant impact on battery life.
