Is there a way so that when the battery dips below a certain threshold the phone can automatically disable things like Bluetooth or GPS to save battery? Is something like this built into JB (I'm on CM 10) or is there an adequate app for this functionality?
Hmm...I think there is. Try going to settings, profiles, and change up or play around with the default/home/work... settings. You can toggle WiFi, mobile data, Bluetooth... Etc

Tasker (app) does it. I think Llama does also and is free.

SuperPower (I got it on AppBrain) is an advanced power management app. It does cool stuff like allow you to schedule your phone to shut off data when the screen is off WHILE scheduling the data to come on for a couple minutes every hour to sync your email AND leave data on if your screen is off but you're downloading something. It didn't seem to play too nice with setcpu but has literally doubled my battery life without a noticeable change in performance. There's a thread on xda about it somewhere, but this is currently an unsupported beta so use at your own risk.

sounds like.
Ya, it's a similar concept to JuiceDefender. Less about task management and power profiles, though - isntead of setting up profiles you basically just enable levels of control over your phone for the app. And yes, 94tbird, I am aware that "of course it did it shut data off. any app that does that will extend batt life " but the impressive thing is that it didn't just turn data off, but it managed it so that I didn't notice it was off. If I wanted a phone with no data connection and great battery life, I'm sure I have an old nokia around here somewhere. The point was that it is a smart enough app to turn data off when I don't need it and on when I do, while still keeping my email box synced and all without me noticing a difference (besides the battery life). You could accomplish the same thing with the stock widget to turn your data connection on and off, but you would actually have to turn it on and off. This app does it for you, and seamlessly enough that you don't notice it working. But hey - do as you like. I don't have any connection to the developer(s) of this app, I just dl'd it and it worked really well, thought I would share.
I just don't know what it is called...
I am looking for an app to turn data on/off at specified times. Something that allows for 3g/4g programing would be great, but anything is better than nothing. Thanks, hive mind!!
I think Tasker does what you want...it'll do pretty much anything! It's a paid app, but well worth it. You can have the phone modify settings, turn on/off settings, or launch apps based on triggers (time, location, etc.). It's a bit difficult to program at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze. I have it set to turn on wifi when I get close to my house (using aGPS only, to save battery life), and to turn the ringer on when charging (and back to vibrate when not). It's awesome.
Juice defender pro it has a option called night mode but you can set it when ever or just do what I do add a HTC widget to your home page from settings called mobile network and just open it when you want to use it. That saves even more power.

Thanks, MadMan. Exactly what I was looking for! I don't want to press buttons. I want to set it and forget it!
Does Tasker allow data on/off on Gingerbread?
Llama also works great for Froyo, but no more data on/off on Gingerbread.
I have an app that seems to be making uneccesary use of GPS as reported by my system info on whats using up my battery.
I would like a tool to turn GPS on/off on a per-app basis, so some apps are led to think GPS is off and other apps see GPS as being on and proceed to use it.
Any suggestions?

i don't think someone would make such an app this is very useless... better switch it on and off...what app is that?

Not useless. I want maps app to quickly get to GPS without me explicitly turning it on each time, but when I am not running maps, most other apps be barred from GPS to limit battery drain. I go one app hitting if for no good reason.
I'd like to set a timer to automatically disable/enable mobile data and wifi at certain time. How can I do that?
I use the app timerific. It's on the market

Try JuiceDefender
Juice defender is quite a mess to set up... Anyway I'll give it a try.
Another thing, I'd need a schedule to disable a background app (sip client) on some days-time... Juice defender cannot block an app, but connectivity. So how can I do that?
Tasker should be able to do that.
I use profile scheduler.
This can change a profile based on time, GPS location, WiFi connection, rules, or manually.
A profile can include volume, device configuration, ring tone, or other system configurations. It can also launch apps based on the same.

Try tasker

I think the best solution is Phone Weaver
You can schedule every function of phone.
It saves the battery
If you also install Call wevaer, both work together and for example it can decrease volume or silence during night and It increases in the morning again.
It is easy to setup
Is it possible to use Tasker or a similar app to automatically Airplane toggle when data drops from an AOSP ROM? That is, can an app like tasker "know" when data drops and be configured to toggle it back on?

I would like to the same thing that could be very helpful
I'm not on AOSP but you could try: Make a profile for signal strength from 0 to 1 ( not 100% sure that these are the values needed ). Then a task that sets airplane mode to off then waits maybe 10 sec. and turns it back on.
