here is a probolem
root lost after flashing the ota updates as LI1, LI2 or LI3.
I've tried many ways, but still have no root.
Anyone got an idea?
You managed to flash the LI2 JB OTA update? The LI3 is an ICS OTA update it says on Sammobile, you flashed that as well?
You have to flash CWM recovery with ODIN, but uncheck auto reboot. When Odin is done you reboot staight to recovery with out first booting the device, or else you will loose CWM. And there you can flash SU zip and you have root.
If you want CWM to stick you should before reboot mount system and connect to computer, start adb and run adb shell, su, rm /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and reboot. And your done
well thanks
i'll try it later.
LI2 is an ICS OTA update. I flashed it coming from LH2 with Mobile Odin Pro and that flashed SuperSU.apk while flashing LI2.
So I assume that flashing the normale SuperSU.zip will work, too.
Btw. I did never loose CWM when leaving it.

I heard the phone gets unrooted with an OTA? So what happens to the apps that need root access? They stay there and start working fine when you root again or need to be reinstalled?
Do you lose data in the process when you install OTA update on a rooted phone?
if i remember correctly , it will not have OTA with rooted phone even with stock ROM.
by root , you must have change some system file , most case, flash CWM recovery and install superuser, which will effectively fail the OTA.
You will get the ota.
it will install perfectly normal if you still have stock recovery.
if you have custom recovery manually flash the update.zip Then flash su.zip. You're now stock rooted.

I have stock recovery and I do have some third party apps installed as system apps but I havent deleted any.
I'll think unless I am one of the first to get OTA I'll prolly be too impatient to wait for it anyways and flash through CWM. But will I lose data flashing through CWM? I have flashed stock roms through stock recovery when it was allowed in GB and never lost data but I wasnt rooted back then.

Be patient, stay rooted, soon after the release I am sure there will be a stock rom that you can flash via CWM,
You won't loose data.
You can flash official updates through cwm no problem. In fact that was the only way to do it manually after 4.0.3. Stock recovery would not allow manually flashing the update zip. Would end up in a error 7.
So it was either wait for the update to be pushed to your phone or flash it manually with a custom recovery
Hi,
I have a P3113.
I want to be able to receive the OTA updates from Samsung, but their OTA update process invokes a reboot into their stock recovery to complete the update. So, if I replace the stock recovery, the official OTA updates wont be able to complete.
But the only way I have seen to "root" a stock ROM was to first replace the stock recovery with CWM recovery, which is need to install a Zip file that does the actual root.
But, once I replace the stock recovery, I will no longer be able to do official OTA updates because they require a stock recovery.
So, what can I do to have a stock ROM and Recovery on my tab, but also be rooted?
If you have the mobile odin pro (paid) and managed to flash stock firmware (the updated one) that you downloaded from www.samfirmware.com (register first) then you will be able to retain root after flashing if you checked the everroot option in mobile odin pro
Or receive the latest firmware via kies then you could root it afterwards ( root the updated firmware)
Or flash the updated firmware from samfirmware via odin pc 1.85 and then root again as usual
As i know no flashable zip to flash to give you the stock recovery
I suggest update via pc odin and forgetting about update via kies
If anytime you want to use kies for update, you could flash first stock firmware via pc odin then update or flash the updated firmware directly then root

Thanks for the info - very helpful.
So am I correct in my understanding here, I can flash stock with mobile Odin, keep my root have stock recovery and then be able to get ota updates without a problem (or use kies to get the update, either way is fine by me).
If I am correct I love you all more and more everyday I come here
Just trying to confirm my understanding

So this is kind of a bump since I am trying to understand if I am correct here. I am still new to all this and want to learn things.
If I use Mobile Odin Pro to flash stock firmware with EverRoot on my P3113, then I can still receive normal updates either via OTA or Kies (which is preferred?). This will keep stock recovery, for the updates, and preserve my root so I can enjoy the benefits.
Does this plan run the risk of bricking on updating? Due to the fact that it is rooted, I thought you can NOT do a regular update (or was that just because of CWM being the recovery?).
What happens when Jelly Bean goes to roll out, will this brick the device since it is a whole new OS? Will this break root and I will need to re-root?
Just trying to understand everything before I make a decision on how I proceed with my device from here. I have never used Mobile Odin, and this is my first rooted device, so I apologize for my questions, but how else will I learn?
Thanks for your time, and your help, and as I said I love you all more and more each time I come around here, since I usually learn something new

Sorry guys it's right there in development.
Hi guys, I just got a new Note. I was able to flash CWM Recovery using odin. After this, I flashed the stock recovery and booted it up. I tried updating the software via OTA, but after it reboots trying to update, it says update failed. It fails at 24% when the android symbol comes up after booting
Please help me
no help yet??
I'd bet $100 you didn't reset flash counter before flashing stock recovery....
Agree.
U have to reset counter, flash back stock recovery.
OTA is urs.
Sent from N7105, at the corner of this rounded earth.
Most curious. AFAIK, OTA's will fail without stock recovery.
It seems the OTA's check for root or altered rom files, this has been my experience anyway, and if found to have been altered fails....
My phone is rooted, and has TWRP custom recovery installed.
The phone automatically downloaded the OTA, and tried to install it. With TWRP, the update failed and my phone is working fine now.
I don't need the rooting anymore (was for teetering, but with new data plan it's now included). So I'm okay with losing the root and all.
Using SuperSU I deselected the rooting, and after reboot RootCheck tells me my phone is not rooted. I still have TWRP installed.
Now, I'm stock MF1/ 4.1.2. How do I install the 4.3 update and remove the TWRP recovery? I found in another thread the 4.3 Tar file. Do I simply use Odin on my PC and flash it on my phone? What about TWRP?

Are you sure you want the 4.3, this latest rom will lock your bootloader permanently, meaning you will NOT able to install CWM,TWRP, custom rom/kernel or downgrade the OS to the early version. The only thing you can do once updated is root. If you still decided to upgrade, just Odin the full rom MF1 here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196 then after bootup your OS should auto update to the latest (OTA).

I had the same question myself, and have been proverbially "running around in circles" today (instead of working). Anybody have success flashing said Odin file and then upgrading via the OTA?
Ha! I came from a mytouch3g years ago, flashing incessantly. I got this phone so i could stop. Then rooted to take the ads away, and got a bit more than I bargained for... now I just want back on OTA stock.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Cheers

if you download this full firmware http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196 unzip the file then use Odin to flash, this will bring you back to pure stock rom with stock recovery (no more twrp/cwm). After this you will be prompt for OTA and just take the upgrade. Once done you should be on the latest factory 4.3 with locked bootloader.
I ended up downloading the 4.3 files from another post here, and flashing it with Odin. Worked fine.
Of course, without a root, can't recover my apps from Titanium but oh well.

Why don't you just root with saferoot found here?http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
I wish I would have found this thread before starting my own... woops. Anyway I would like to install 4.3 and I too rooted with twrp. I don't care anymore if I am rooted or not. I stopped flashing roms and such a while back and will be upgrading this next year to the s5 most likely.
Is there a way to install 4.3 w/out removing root? If not, since I never used odin, and used twrp what steps do/should I take to get back to where I can install 4.3?
Thank you.

Since your life is too busy and you don't want to mess with your phone anymore, your best bet is go back to stock 4.3 which is very good by the way, very stable, smooth and bug free. After so many complaints from my wife I rolled it back to stock 4.3 and she's so happy now.
1. Flash stock MF1 here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196 , just unzip the flash with Odin
2. Your phone should take the 4.3 OTA update and you're home free.
If anyone wants to try "systemless root" with OTA updates, here is the stock recovery so you theoretically could get the OTA updates.
1) OTA updates are NOT TESTED, I've never tried this and the combination of Systemless root + an OTA update with the stock recovery could soft brick or even hard brick your phone, so I'm not responsible.
2) I flashed this recovery myself, so it is safe to flash. The mistake I made was that I, after flashing it and booting back to system, I "rebooted to recovery" and the stock recovery wiped all my data (factory reset) so I had to reflash TWRP and restore my Nandroid backup (thank god I had one)
Instructions:
In Bootloader mode type via ADB:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.bin
Then reboot to system
If you happen to update via OTA with systemless root and this stock recovery let us all know how it went.
