so after a week of wondering why my phone was off when i took it out pocket, i figured it out. for some reason if i push on the middle of the lcd and the middle of the back, the phone turns off! with little to moderate force. tried it on my friends inspire and it did the same thing. now i know not every inspire has this problem but test yours to find out.
no problem here
How hard are you pushing on it? I'm too afraid to apply force to it but I've never had any issues with mine turning off.

with very little to average force. its only in the center on mine... just wanted to let you guys know.
I just tried it pushing kind of hard. No problem here and it was right dead in the center although I did just get a new inspire through warrenty yesterday. So maybe its just the first couple of them
I would guess that it's a loose battery connection. Pushing it as you do is likely flexing it enough to break contact. Mine doesn't do this.
No problem here either.
It might be loosing battery connection just like Gene said.
Mine doesn't do this. Did u check how secure the battery cover was?

Well I haven't had my phone for more that 30 days so I'm going to take it into at&t and have them replace it.

Also I don't even think the phone turns off! When I push it the screen goes off but I cant turn it back on via the power button. I have to take out the battery and put it back in. Also when it turns off, I tried connecting my charger. The orange light came on but the screen never does.

has anyone noticed the little dots on the screen (under the glass) in the sun? I came from the galaxy S and i know it's AMOLED so i'm just wondering if that is normal on LCD?
It has to be out in the sunlight with the screen off to see them..

I bought an Inspire 4G off craigslist and the seller stated the phone wouldn't turn on but I was hoping I could fix it. This is what I discovered:
1) The phone won't turn on, no white boot screen, nothing
2) When I press the power button there is a light that blinks rapidly and it's orange at the top left of the earpiece, not green like I've read online about. Its stops blinking when I let go of the power button.
3) When I have the phone plugged into the wall charger the orange light blinks again constantly, very rapidly.
4) I tried connecting the phone to my computer through USB and it wouldn't recognize it.
Anyone have any idea what might be the problem or what I can do to fix it?
I would leave it on charge for a while then follow brick instructions in sticky, had a bad flash that did that

How much did you pay for it? Haha and yeah I tottaly agree with ^^^ let it charge for a while.
I've had the same thing happen to me a few times, and all I had to do was pull out the battery and then everything went back to normal.
rboone - how long is a while? I left it charging last night for about 7 hours lol.
ThEiiNoCeNT - I paid $100.
zamula - I pulled the battery out too. I tried everything I could think of. I wanted to try to connect it to my computer to unbrick it but it wouldn't recognize it, I haven't tried ODIN or anything like that, but it didn't recognize it through "My Computer". When you take the battery cover off does the battery just slide out? Mine slides out, it doesn't click in or anything.

Can you get it into hboot? And you can't use Odin that's a Samsung firmware for Samsung phones. You will need to get the ruu

No, the screen won't turn on at all. Oh ok, I thought maybe Odin was only for Samsung. Just download the exe from this thread (link below) and follow the steps? Is there anything specific I should do since my phone won't even boot and I can't get my computer to recognize it?

Have you tried holding the volume down button and pressing the power button?

Yes. I pressed the volume down button and held it and then pressed the power button. When the power button was pressed the orange light blinked again. It didn't turn on though.

Did the person you bought it from offer any kind of hint as to what happened to the phone that caused this condition?
Probably not pre-sale, but now that he has your money, perhaps he'll be more willing to open up about it.

Not really, I texted him now to see if he can give me some more info. We'll see what he says.
Something I noticed now is that the orange light doesn't blink when I press the power button without the phone plugged in, it did earlier with the phone plugged in and without it plugged in (just running on battery). Not sure if that's good or bad.
Probably dropped in water. Its toast most likely.

Yea, I just checked the indicator and it's read. Water damaged! I tried to find the water damage indicator yesterday when I bought it but couldn't see it.
So...is it too late to try the rice in the bag trick? The orange light flickers...I'm wondering if that means anything positive.
If it is water damaged and you have no chance of turning it on I would throw it in rice anyways...

Ok, I'll try it. Take the phone apart and drop the pieces in rice? Put the phone without the battery in it in the bag of rice? or put the phone with the battery in it with the pieces on it as well (battery cover, sim card/sd card cover)?
I heard dropping it in rubbing alcohol helps too...should I avoid this and just try the rice?

Well, now that you've mentioned the condition of the water damage indicator, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a response from the seller.
Dude's prolly in Canada by now.

Good idea. If that screen is in working condition, there's all sorts of peeps with shattered screens running around these parts. Or there was, at least.
I don't know how you'd go about testing it out, without a known working secondary inspire laying around willing to be a frankenstein test subject.

Almost there.
One or two more obnoxious, off-topic, and completely useless posts, and then I'll call it quits for the day.
Hi,
Tonight my desire s had a water contact from the back side. When I realize, the phone was off and proximity sensor's light was red, and the buttons' lights under the screen was lit. Immediately I put battery, sim card and memory card out, dried phone and battery with a hair dryer. but proximity sensor's light is still red(?), the phone seem ok: it boots I can see my home screen but I can't use touch screen, it does not respond. Please help me with this issue.:crying:
The best way to try to get water out is to put the phone in uncooked rice, you'll have to leave it for quite some time but it is provably your best chance of getting it to work again

I acquired an Ispire from a friend that was dropped in water in the past. The water sensor on the battery is perfect but the one on the mobo is red. It will vibrate on occasion but no LED's come on when plugged up and I can't get my laptop to recognize it.
Is it a lost cause or do you guys think it may have potential since I can get it to vibrate sometimes?
Any and all help is appreciated

Does it turn on at all? If its not turning on at all then its a lost cause. Have you tried pulling the battery for a few seconds and then entering hboot.

Doesn't turn on at all. It will vibrate after I pull battery but only once usually and no leds or anything come on.

Sounds like something fried. Can you boot it without the sd card in. If not then I'd say its toast. It probably needs a new main board. Especially since it has water damage.

So I dropped my phone on a wet floor. I wiped it off and it seemed fine. Next day, after some normal use, I turn on the screen and only the capacitive buttons turn on, not the screen itself. I hold down the power button to reset, and its still like that. The phone works and incoming calls/alarms still sound, i just have no way to answer them. Later I managed to get the screen to come on by literally smacking the phone (it filickers a bit during the smacking process). Yet after any substantial movement it goes blank again. This process repeats a few times until smacking is no longer any use.
I'm guessing some water seeped in and caused damage but I really don't know. I'd like to replace the screen yet i'm not sure if that will do the trick. Any ideas?
Thanks!!!
If smacking it achieves results, then smack it:thumbup:

The rice trick is your best option. I've had mixed results over the years with it.
