My desire s had a water touch, touch screen does not work :( - HTC Desire S

Hi,
Tonight my desire s had a water contact from the back side. When I realize, the phone was off and proximity sensor's light was red, and the buttons' lights under the screen was lit. Immediately I put battery, sim card and memory card out, dried phone and battery with a hair dryer. but proximity sensor's light is still red(?), the phone seem ok: it boots I can see my home screen but I can't use touch screen, it does not respond. Please help me with this issue.:crying:

The best way to try to get water out is to put the phone in uncooked rice, you'll have to leave it for quite some time but it is provably your best chance of getting it to work again

check your inspires...maybe bad device

so after a week of wondering why my phone was off when i took it out pocket, i figured it out. for some reason if i push on the middle of the lcd and the middle of the back, the phone turns off! with little to moderate force. tried it on my friends inspire and it did the same thing. now i know not every inspire has this problem but test yours to find out.
no problem here
How hard are you pushing on it? I'm too afraid to apply force to it but I've never had any issues with mine turning off.

with very little to average force. its only in the center on mine... just wanted to let you guys know.
I just tried it pushing kind of hard. No problem here and it was right dead in the center although I did just get a new inspire through warrenty yesterday. So maybe its just the first couple of them
I would guess that it's a loose battery connection. Pushing it as you do is likely flexing it enough to break contact. Mine doesn't do this.
No problem here either.
It might be loosing battery connection just like Gene said.
Mine doesn't do this. Did u check how secure the battery cover was?

Well I haven't had my phone for more that 30 days so I'm going to take it into at&t and have them replace it.

Also I don't even think the phone turns off! When I push it the screen goes off but I cant turn it back on via the power button. I have to take out the battery and put it back in. Also when it turns off, I tried connecting my charger. The orange light came on but the screen never does.

has anyone noticed the little dots on the screen (under the glass) in the sun? I came from the galaxy S and i know it's AMOLED so i'm just wondering if that is normal on LCD?
It has to be out in the sunlight with the screen off to see them..

Phone won't turn on!!!

i just dropped my phone in a puddle and when i picked it up it was working, i immediately put my phone in a bag of rice and about an hour later i took it out and it was dry so i tried to turn it on and it vibrates and blinks the green LED, i've tried to boot into hboot and whatever the + boots into but it all does the same thing, please help!!!
Keep it in the rice for a few more hours... that's basically all you can do now.
i took it out of the rice and then it wouldn't turn on and then i figured out that it was dust not water anymore, because the rice was really dusty, so i kept trying to blow it out and then i started looking for compressed air and couldn't find any so i used an air horn and it worked
Haha okay...I was about to say that also...compressed air .

[Q] Dresire S - Proximity Sensor Problem

Got a brand new DS couple of days back and....right from opening the box..the first call..proximity sensor is playing up. Most times i have to pull out the battery to end the call.
Tried the following with no result
1) Installed DHD Proximity re-calibrator
2) Factory reset
3) Installed Vitrous Unity 1.27
4) Back to factory rom, blew hard between ear piece and sensors
5) Removed screen protector and tested
I have S- Off and really dont want to go through the pain of visiting HTC. Would greatly appreciate some help here ...as always !
did you press the back button in between the call?
this has happened to me on stock rom only if i press the back button during the call
i haven't tried it on LBC rom yet

I noticed that only half the proximity sensor is visible, the other half is covered by what appears like black plastic part. Is this how it is supposed to be?
My proximity sensor is completely visible.
No..i haven't pressed the back button.

Is it the left sensor of the two sensors?
I have exactly the same problem. The issue seems to be that Desire S proximity sensor active distance is 9cm, when on my older Desire ir is only 1cm.
When working with some Proximity sensor tools, I have discovered, that you need to put your phone like 25cm (have no idea, how many inches) away from any obstacle in 30degree radius. If that is followed, I haven't been able to recreate a battery pull ocasion of sensor failure. However in real life talking, it is impossible to guarantee.
That there must be some sensor configuration possibilities, so that we could decrease sensibility to minimum distance. Such change should solve this sensor bug, as it would be normal operation distance.
Maybe some dev knows, how to play with proximity sensor?
Yeah, I have had this problem a long time with this phone didn't happen that much at first then it became more and more apparent.
Found the problem and solution, it lies with the screen protector, yes it might be transparent but the sensor detects it. Using a sensor testing app from the market it suggested the sensor was covered almost all the time.
So the solution was replace the protector with new one but cut an arc at the top just big enough around the sensor at the top left, easy fix now in call screen is more responsive.

Proximity sensor
I've been having the same issue. I gave my DS to the HTC workshop and they said it was faulty hardware. They will be replacing the system board since the sensor is soldered to it (under waranty).
Before sending it in, I tried a few roms and hacks but it was never resolved. I recommend you visit your local HTC warranty center.
I have the same problem with the proximity. I installed an app called Anyunlock which seems to have solved the problem. It seems to be able to wake it when the screen turns off after a call. The app allows you to unlock with the volume key and replaces the lock screen with its own. I hope this keeps working

Wet phone, acting crazy. Stuck in headset mode

Accidentally dropped my phone into puddle of water. Now my phone is constantly in headset mode, randomly goes into car mode, and the backlight for the home buttons never turns all the way off, only dims. Is there some way to completely disable the headset mode? I am using the headset toggle widget as a temp fix so incandescent atleast have audio, and place calls. I dried it out completely placed it in rice overnight. Any and all help is welcome.

It is either still wet on the inside and the water is shorting out contacts leading to your issues or it has permanent water damage. If it still acts up after a good 3 days or so I would use your insurance, unless your not insured. Then you may be sol as warranty won't cover water damage.

Hello my dear. Turn off your device and try to push (volume -) + (Power (1 sec)). If you don't see the HBOOT, urgent change the device in that place where you bought it. Np.
Thanks will check it out and see what I can do. Mite have to replace screen. Noticed a red dot that should be white...

If the white moisture sensor turned red or pink this is water damage. Is this what you are referring to when you say "red dot should be white"? If so then yes the device got damaged with water or moisture somehow.

Try to remove battery and your sim card, then put it back again. Try to power up your phone, see if vibrates. If you still see black screen than something is wrong with your screen. If your phone doesn't vibrate it can be something else. Try to check if your battery is charged.

If the indicators show pink or red it is water damage. What exactly the water damaged is hard to say. But if the indicators have turned then that IS likely your issue. You can try taking device apart and placing in a bag of rice to absorb the moisture. Be patient with this it does work but takes some time. Also with device apart carefully dry off parts that are wet with q tips. I dropped my device in the mud. On the outside it looked dry but when I took it apart I could clearly see the water still present in the device. This worked for me however I did not luckily have my indicators turn on me. It all depends on extent of water damage. But give this a try . Best wishes.
