Motorola Triumph Jelly Bean SIGN UP - Motorola Triumph

Ok my last post about jelly bean = FAIL. This time it isn't me. Motorola has a petition going around for phones released in 2011 and there after. (Yes the Triumph falls under this category) If enough people go to the link and sign up for the petition for this phone, THEY WILL PERSONALLY BUILD US JELLY BEAN. This is direct and without flaws.(THAT MEANS NO LIST OF THINGS NOT WORKING). No more alpha crap waiting for beta and the use of an operating system without ALL features. I realize that devs are hard at work, but I really wish that they either hurry up, or EVERY TRIUMPH OWNER SIGNS UP. Yes this may take some time, but it is AN OFFICIAL MOTOROLA TRIUMPH UPDATE. SIGN UP HERE---\/
Go to right hand side of page, enter details, phone model, etc. Hit Send and you are a +1 person
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/ci/documents/detail/2/motorola-jelly-bean-rebate_en-US

By the way
By the way, this is totally possible because our device name is in the list of supported devices according to that Motorola sight. All we need is hype about this and enough people to request the update.
If the old mod is watching this and remembers the last post I had that was shut down, I am personally sorry for that disorganized mess.

Eh, them spending development time on such a niche phone seems very very very unlikely, On their ICS upgrade schedule forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c the Triumph was listed as "TRIUMPH WX435 - Will remain on Android 2.2. "
No plans for 2.3, no plans for 4.0, 4.1 seems highly highly improbable.
On the plus side you may be able to trade your phone in for a 100 dollar gift card down in 2013. Perhaps they will fund a nice chunk of your next virgin mobile Motorola phone, since I bought it for 130 a year ago that isn't a bad deal at all.
Honestly cashing out for a new more powerful, JB shipped with it, dual core, more ram, better screen, hundred dollars off phone will probably be the far better deal TRIUMPH WX435
Will remain on Android 2.2.

I see you didn't see my comment, the website says that the TRIUMPH is on the list of possible updates. Also you didn't read the fine line, the 100 dollars is only towards new motorola phones with jellybean. The Triumph is just waiting for enough people TO SIGN UP.

This isn't a petition, it's a signup sheet for information. No where on the site does it say if enough people sign up we will dictate their business decisions. No where on the page says you are voting for which phones get updated and it is a popularity contest. It also doesn't say these phones are all being considered, just that they all were made in 2011 and qualify for one of the two offers.
Motorola said all phones released in 2011 will either get JB or 100 dollars off a new phone. Which clearly means some phones will fall in the 100 dollar camp with no JB, and I am betting that will include far better and more expensive $500+ phones than the Triumph.
Of phones for that to happen to, the dirt cheap, stripped down, already announced to be staying at 2.2, prepaid carrier phone is probably at the top of the unlucky pile. The Triumph is an odd duck in Motorolla's 2011 heap, I am surprised it even got included for the chance at $100 at all. I bet half the phones on that list will be getting a 100 off offer and no JB no matter how many people sign up. (And some of these phones are far more popular than the Triumph, sold on major carriers and worldwide)
All signing up here does is sign you up for the mailing list that will say "Congratulations, We didn't upgrade your phone, You qualify for $100 off the $200 New Motorola phone @ Sprint/Verizon/ATT with a 2 year contract $80 contract! ... If you send in your Triumph" That will be one cheap promise to keep, nobody will leave $25 Vmo for that. Motorolla wins more if they get you to buy a new contract Droid Razor Maxx for $400ish, than porting JB to a unpopular (We are in the Legacy and Low Activity Devices forum) and unprofitable (Most phones are 500-600 dollars subsidized down to 200 with contract, ours sold without contract for 100-200) phone.
I wish it got upgraded too, I wish other Motorolla phones got upgraded too. Thanks for the link, I signed up for all my phones.
Just don't get your hopes up too high, expect a hundred dollars off an expensive phone on sprint, *HOPE* that they are unprepared for virgin mobile customers and we get a 100 gift card or something we can use on virgin mobile or hope that Motorolla comes out with a good new phone for Vmo... JB on the Triumph has a snowball's chance in hell.
Edit: In addition Vmo doesn't even want this phone to be attractive, since we are grandfathered in at 25 bucks they want this phone to die out. It never goes on sale, They have it priced at Full Brand New Retail more expensive than dual core 3D 4G phones running ICS and a hundred dollars more than I paid a year ago. If Vmo has anything to say about it (They certainly do) this phone would never ever see an update. Also Vmo has an extablished MO of not updating any phones ever. The Triumph just happens to be the one phone Motorola sells with them.

As expected, Moto has updated the release list
https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
Phones that cost 300 dollars subsidized (so really 600-800ish) 1 year ago are now not getting ICS, and they deleted the triumph as if it never even existed, phones far better got screwed, the triumph is so low in the pecking order it essentially doesn't exist according to moto.
Here is hoping our 100 trade in comes in the form of a versatile gift card, and we can buy nexus devices.

hmmm give every triumph owner 100 dollars or just put jelly-bean on Triumph. someone didnt think before making such an extensive post. oh nvm, they took Triumph right off of the list! dirty bastards are lucky this was the first Android phone to hit VM. I woulda been quick to choose any HTC model over this one.

Best bet for a jellybean experience: take your triumph boot into recovery wipe everything. Find a baseball bat near buy commence smashing. Look around for new phone with a working cm10 wala now you have jellybean ,

Guess we'll be able to rock Gingerbread :D

Android 3.0 Gingerbread
# Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher.
# New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher.
# Completely revamped user interface.
We have all those
1ghz Hummingbird
512mb ram
4" SAMOLED
;D
Knowing samsung ... my guess is they will never build a release with it. On to the next piece of hardware.
I hope they prove me wrong.
Regardless if Samsung releases a 3.0 ROM for us or not, it will be ported.
I want Froyo when it comes available, because I already know it rocks.
As for Gingerbread, nobody knows if it is a turd or not, so I am not about to get all worked up about am OS that won't be available for my device until late next year, if ever...
However... it would be nice to know there will be long-term support and development for this device. It is quite an expensive piece of equipment to hit end-of-life a year later.

I got mine for $150... but with the 2 year contract.
However, since AT&T is the only provider that has good coverage at my house, i am locked into them regardless of whether I have a contract or not.
2 year extension only means I have to wait 18 months to get the latest-greatest phone... I'm not complaining.
I could've gotten the Captivate for free, or the Iphone 4 for $199 still keeping my unlimited plan.
But I just bought the Captivate $350, still have my plan. Just waiting for the latest thing lol

I had 3 choices
1) Get captivate for free, keep my plan, put 2 year contract on a family line.
2) Get iphone 4, do "cross-upgrade" (put contract on a family line) register micro-sim/imei to me, and keep my plan.
3) Buy either phone off contract
I went with 3, but not "official", I saw some guy on craigslist selling it new in box $350, so I bought it, took my sim out of old Motorola Backflip (CRAP OUT-DATED DEVICE) and placed it in my Captivate.
So I don't know if the phone is "technically" covered by att, but I registered it with samsung.
You didn't buy it from AT&T so they will not cover anything. Not even support if they didn't want to. The latter is not likely as I have purchased 2nd hand devices and they have not refused to provide technical support.
joey - how did you keep unlimited data with two year upgrade? Thanks, NLS

Talk to AT&T if you bought the device from them.
I got my Captivate via LetsTalk.com and I was given a checkbox that says "I WANT TO KEEP MY 30$ UNLIMITED PLAN"
If you're still fresh into your new contract you should be able to tell them to switch it to your good ol' unlimited data plan and don't let them tell you the otherwise. Be persistent.

You know, I've been worried that this may be a general problem for all smart phones.
There is little, actually negative, incentive for manufactures to upgrade the OS of any phone. They don't charge for the upgrades and new phones are "relatively" cheap.
Additionally, the players in question tend to be hardware manufactures not software manufactures.
I think the deck is stack against those of us that want to see OS upgrades on smart phones.
Just my 2 cents worth, YMMV.

Yep, I'm going to agree here. A wireless company would need to invest lots of money for a team to test and prepare a new OS after it's received from the manufacturer to be sent out to a device. Or they could just spend that money on checking a new incoming phone which would already be prepped for the new OS.
In today's world they know a majority of us are going to be drooling over the next big thing in a year. Why give you something for free when they can get you to buy it?
The only phone to really break this mold is the iPhone. Only because it's one piece of hardware controlled by the manufacturer. They only have to worry about the OS working with their own hardware. Where Gingerbread will need to be adapted to every manufacturer that wants to use it.
If it looks amazing I'll be praying for Samsung and AT&T to step up to the plate for their customers; but I won't be checking BGR expecting anything.

I keep hearing that google said late Q4-early Q1.
The way I see it, samsung, htc, moto, nobody cares if you get a higher os. They will make an update due to calender reasons like the 2.1 to 2.2 to get you to buy a device with an old os.
But if the devs can put 2.2 on a g1, which google said couldn't happen, doesn't really matter what hardware we have. It's up to all of us to support the devs to make anything happen.

I doubt it, considering how hard they made it for the XDA guys to root the DroidX. My guess is we're going to be seeing more of these hardware "anti-root" chips on future Motorola devices.
Pretty stupid of them, really, considering the huge percentage of the Android population (like myself) that regularly try out different ROM's and such. You would think they would be more concerned with making the hardware sale than making sure you were stuck with MotoBlur.
It just goes to show that Motorola really isn't listening to it's customers, and that's a shame. The Xoom looks pretty awesome, but if it's as locked down as I expect it to be you can count me out. One of my favorite things about my G-Tablet is how easy it's been to "tinker" with it. And I can attest that the things are almost impossible to "brick". Thought I killed mine a couple of times, but it just took a little time hacking away at it and it's always come back to life
Away put your weapons...
The comment that's going viral through the Android community was just a poorly-thought-out blurt from a guy at Motorola. Before we break out the sandblasters and flamethrowers, remember that "the guy" has a boss... who probably issued their almost-an-apology soon after...

do not buy motorola
look how they are making fun of the defy owners
i bought one and it had the dead speaker problem, then when i could think of anything worse than a phone that cant make calls, a beautiful green stuck unremovable pixel apeared on the screen, i sold it
Is this even newsworthy?? Motorola is nothing if not famous for locking down their phones, especially those running on Verizon's network. I can recall bricking an old Moto flip phone, simply trying to add some custom ringtones to it. Personally these days I avoid Moto altogether, I just assume anything they create will end up locked down and crippled. There are gonna be so many other honeycomb tablets that I am uninterested in anything that will be locked down like an iPad is. (And yes I have an iPad, which spends most of it's time being used for Netflix and Angry Birds.)

I'm reading that the minimum is $800, but I doubt that's correct. They wouldn't be crazy enough, would they? Are there that many people forecasted to be willing to shell out an extra $400 for basically the same guts as the VS + 3G/4G and a better screen? I suppose people buy the iPad and that doesn't have 1/2 the features so anything's possible.
Not in a rush to buy a locked down boot loader. No custom roms or recoveries....no thank you.
Sent from my VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1 using Tapatalk
If the bootloader does not seal it as a bad buy, the reported $800 retail price should (Neo, due to the rationale below- the price may be correct)
I expected it to be high, due to the phone price model. That is why phones are so high, due to carrier pricing practiced by all channels. They NEED you to buy the data plans and get locked in as a revenue stream- hence crazy a55 retail prices.
You would think Motorola and Verizon would learn from the Galaxy Tab debacle. It STILL does not sell well and is cheaper than the Xoom's reported price.
Samsung talked smack about over a million sold, but that was sell IN to retailers and not sell THROUGH to actual end users.
just crazy..

AT&T phone return policy

So I know that there are a few hot phones coming out, like the sony xperia ion and the HTC one X etc..
I have until March 22nd before my 30 day return window is up on my Skyrocket. However I think that both the phones I mentioned above will be released after that by a few weeks.
My question is (being that I'mm brand new to ATT) could I return my skyrocket within my days and just use some random lame $20 phone that I find on CL for a few weeks and then still use my upgrade a few weeks later when these other phones are released? Or what would you do in my shoes? Thanks!!
Honestly, no. Your best bet it to call AT&T and speak to a customer service manager, or escalate it as high as you need to iin ordee for you to keepbyiur upgrade option. Just walking into the store isn't going to cut it
i would just return it and use the crappy phone or if you are willing to spend the money buy the skyrocket off contract and use the upgrade later. if you have the skyrocket you would be good for even longer because its a great phone so you could wait for an even better phone than the One X that will inevitably come 2 months after the One X comes out.

Amazing!!! These **new** phones will remain new for only a few months. They will soon superseded by something flashier, faster and "greater". I am sure that Android 5.0 is also around the corner.
You cannot keep chasing this. It would cost some real money. I find that the Skyrocket does everything I want a good phone to do, it has a great screen, it is fast, it has more than enough storage, etc, etc. Sure, you can get a quad-core phone as soon as they come out, but what would be the speed improvement there? The Skyrocket is already very fast. If I were you, I would enjoy the phone and wait for the upgrade wait to end. In a year or so, there will be another great collection of phones for you to choose from!
Personally, I would keep the Skyrocket. Besides the Note, there is no other phone out there right now, or even announced that I have any interest in. When the SGS3 comes out, maybe that will change, but in the mean time, the Skyrocket is one of the top dogs.
You'll always be chasing what keeps itself 2 steps ahead of you.
Returning your phone to at&t isn't a slam dunk. If you don't get a new phone at the time of the return, they'll most likely push up your next upgrade eligibility to 60days. They may also hit you with a restocking fee too. Good luck.
If you want to stay up to date on the cheap..pay out of pocket once at best buy(price match at$t) and do buyback..every new phone as long long as its within 6 months is basically half price off contract.

[Q] Blaze Info

My LG Optimus T died just in-time for an eligable phone upgrade. After looking at my options, the Blaze is the only phone with improved specs (compared to Optimus), and a reasonable screen size. I'd prefer an iPhone, but T-Mobile is the only service that works in my apartment. Are screen sizes only gonna get bigger, as new, more powerful, phones are released? I feel like I need to move on the Blaze before it's discontinued and only gigantic 4G phones remain. Is this a fair assessment, or will future phone screens return to reasonable sizes?
Thanks,
-Adam
if you xan not wait for an LTE enabled phones that would be comming out in near furure (3-6 months, galaxy note 2 has it but is 5"screen...) get the Blaze, same internal specs as Galaxy S2 (processor, video, RAM) but in smaler package..
I love it, i just wish it had LTE chip i wouldnt change it anytime soon...
I had all the T-Mobile Galaxy phones from the last 2-3 years starting w the Vibrant, 4G, SGS2, SGS3, then i even had the Nexus 4 for a day two before i sold if for $100 profit when they was hard to get...
at that point after i knew what i want, a capable 4" screen phone.
get it, you wont b dissapointed.
It's probably one of the best 4 inchers out there. I think the majority of the top phones will continue to be 4.3" and up. But there will always be a smaller assortment of capable 3.7 to 4" phones out there. As you probably know the iPhone finally moved up to 4. So obviously there is a market for a more average size phones.
mybe we get lucky to get a new revision of he blaze w JB, quad core processor, LTE chip, and 4" higher res screen ...
it would def be my next phone, very satisfied w the Blaze...

Has anyone dealt with this place? The price seems too good to be true. I was filling out the order form, but when they started asking me for my social security #, license info, etc I got hesitant.
Thanks,

The t-mobile web site also has it for free, with the activation fee waived. Click on the "view details" link in the one where it shows the price as $99, and presto...the price is 0$. No rebates either.Personally I'd do that. Chances are, one of the official stores could honor that as well.

Huh. When I checked it last week it was at $100; that limited time offer must have just started. Thanks for the link, I'm gonna order it tomorrow.
it's free with a new line activation, upgrade price is $99.00 plus $50 for a total of $149.00 plus shipping and fees.... and you get a $50 rebate card...
Activate new line in the store. Cancel old plan. If you're not still in an agreement period this is what you would do, assuming you don't mind having a new phone number.
If you're still in an agreement period you can't really do this because, well, the early termination fee is a thing.
Personally I think charging different rates is stupid. If you're not in an agreement period of any kind, (meaning, they've already milked you for a full subsidy amount or you never had one to begin with since you brought your own device) and you're willing to enter into a new one the same as a regular joe, you should get the same deal.
But that promotion is to attract new customers!
Great. You'll need to attract a new customer to replace me.
That's my view.

On a scale of 1-10, how hard did we get screwed by LG?

If I see another crappy metro/huawei or no name device with sub-par or similar hardware compared to our phone running official ics, jb or cm10.1 I'm going to grab it and light it on fire. When I bought this phone it was a toss up between the galaxy s2 and the g2x. I bought the g2x because Mr. T-Mobile man talked me into it (they were the same price.) This was before I really knew anything about android as far as rooting and custom firm of course. This device could easily be given an official ICS update at the VERY least. LG screwed us, hard and long. On a scale of 1-10 I give this screwing a 9, ONLY because the amazing developers we have here stretched this device to its absolute limits and continue to do more. If it weren't for them, well I don't even want to think about that. So on a scale of 1-10, how hard do you feel you've been screwed by LG?

I'd actually rate it as a screwing of 10. The awesome quality of roms, updates and patches that the developers here have provided doesn't change the fact that LGE ****ed us over. I made A LOT of noise about this to Wind Mobile here in Canada early on because I didn't quite understand that it wasn't the carrier holding me back (Wind's P999 is still officially on Froyo if I'm not mistaken ... I installed CM7 immediately so I don't know if one update ever made it out).
Nothing but love for everyone here who tried to squeeze some additional life out of this device. Hell, if giveen manages to get the radio working (others have tried previously) then I'd say the G2x can once again be a half decent phone.
It's truly a shame that a vendor as large as LG would treat a community of consumers so poorly. Never again LG, never again ...
I'm going to say almost no chance off me getting radio to work. I'm being honest.
I've looked over it, examined it with a few other dev's and a couple programmer friends and everything points that it should work, the only thing we can't look at is the precompiled RIL
I don't think they screwed us that bad. From the get go lots of people had issues with this phone and chances are they have a new phone by now. I've had mine for 2 1/2 years now. Its the only phone I've been able to keep. Yes a working ics would be awesome but when I bought the phone I had no idea what any of that was lol. I played w/ a nexus4 and even though it was cool didn't feel the need to spend all that money for features I wouldn't use. Everything I need to do I can do on this phone. So on a scale of 1-10 I would give a 5 only because they screwed alot of people from the get go.

Its all because of the tegra 2 chip, it was no longer supported by them...although samsung still does which is odd and awesome :0 stupid LG... if it had a qualcomm chipset it would still be have support from LG therefore never buy tegra devices lmao:silly:
10! Terribly mishandled by lg and they wiped their hands clean and pretended phone never existed. Backlight bleeding, major software issues even on gingerbread, yea we all know the potential it had but oh well. Ran with it for two years and glad to have left this junk phone behind

That's too bad, but knowing the amount of effort you and others have invested no one will complain (or shouldn't at least )
As soon as my contract is up and I can dump this phone without having to pay the remainder of the "Wind tab", I will be glad to move on to something that's NOT an LG product.

Yeah, I am pretty disappointed myself. I came in here thinking that it would be a snap but I ended up stuck just as everyone else.
Its always proprietary files that are the issue.
It's not LG, not really. It's the carrier. Cheap ass carriers like wind (froyo) and tmo (gb) are the real fault. It's not Tegra either, since p990 got ics.

I'm pretty sure it is LG though. If LG doesn't release updates to the carriers, the carriers can't spend months and months injecting bloatware into those updates before releasing them to us. the suckers ...er customers.

Then why did T-Mobile get GB and Wind did not? Wind ROMs have no bloatware at all.
From what I heard Wind didn't get the update because they didn't sell enough sets. That to me kind of makes sense.
The noob says:
In the absence of a valid argument, 2+1=3 may be used to explain why the g2x did not get the ICS update!

It still sucks ... especially for those of us suckers (*cough* me *cough*) who still have 14 months to go on their no contract "contract" with Wind.
Oh well, live an learn. This experience made me so wary of LG that I didn't snap up a nexus 4 when they were on sale in the play store
should have gotten it. Updates for the nexus are handled by Google directly, NOT LG....thank god lol

What contract? if you want out buy the phone from them. Really and truthfully you are buying the phone either up front or to cancel the "contract" they do not hold you in nor charge you more then needed to pay for the phone. I still don't understand why this concept is so hard for people to understand.
i would give a 9 for my experience with LG. within months the headphone jack went bad and would barely hold the plug, the usb port is crappy, and sometimes wouldn't charge properly (both were denied under warrenty. The lack of updates is the biggest issues. The only reason this phone had life is because of the Hard work of modders then they went and fudged all that with the new base band update that broke the Bluetooth for modded phones.
At the time this was suppose to be their flagship phone, it was also the beefiest and fastest phone on the market, I was told like may others it will be updated only to get nothing out of it. Worse is that they allowed and branded it incorrectly in the Canadian Market.
I'll give it a point since it was built like a brick, i have dropped it so many times (after the aforementioned issues) and it still kept chugging for just over 2 years, eventually the screen went weird and acted like someone was constantly tapping it so i swapped it with an S4, a phone i know for sure will be supported and i can actually find proper accessories for it. The price point of the Nexus 5 is temping for sure, but when i check most cell phone stores in my area They carry mainly iphone and samsung accessories, which make up over 80% of the stock in some stores. This goes to show the popularity of the phones

It's not hard to understand at all, it just kind of sucks. The "original" price was $350 for the phone, which the Windtab covers (and nullifies at the end of 3 years). After 24 months, the tab is sitting at $290. I could buy the phone out, but it seems like a waste of money. I'm otherwise happy with wind so I'll keep an eye out for a replacement phone and just wait another year for the "contract" to expire.
I tend to ***** about the G2x mostly since it seemed to hold so much promise, was dropped very quickly by the manufacturer, and as a result I've got something that can't be updated, but I still have to pay for. I probably wouldn't complain as much if I'd already finished paying for the phone

The original premise of Wind was no contracts, you buy a phone from them full price, choose a plan, choose a payment option (pre or post paid) and done. People wanted subsidized phones so they brought out the Wind tab. Here you are paying for the phone AFTER you used it not before, there are still no extra fees for it if you want to leave early. And it's 24 months, never has it been 36 months. In the end you are still buying the phone and used it for quite some time now, except now for you it's $290 vs $350, you still saved money I don't get how It's not worth it?
Initially wind tab would take 36 months to pay off, after the CRTC changed the rules all the providers have now switched to 24 months. Only customers who got the plan after the rule change get the 2 year tab, the rest have to complete the full 3 years

This was more of a gangbang situation. Lg got some, nvidia got some, and T-Mobile got a piece too. And if you're unfortunate enough to be screwed by wind they seem even more despicable still! Wind definitely deserves a 10.
Lg 8 for putting this particular modem on this particular phone.
Nvidia 4 for being present lol
T-mobile 5 for acting like this phone was the poop and then tossing it like a dirty diaper.
On the brighter side a lot of us are reaching the end of the line with this thing and if nothing else it's been a great learning experience. This phone is so picky about kernels and settings and charging that we've had to become super disciplined about how we treat our phone or else it burns your nightstand. Plus having witnessed the long and frustrating journey of many devs pushing this phone just a little further each time has definitely enlightened me on how hard these guys work for something we all profit from. Holy crap this post got long! My bad. Carry on.

Granted but he shouldn't really be complaining about the price of a phone he bought a year ago and using all this time, he should pay the price of when he started using it, not how much it's worth a year later, it's really just a selfish attitude
