This had happened to me before. I'll restart my phone and it boots normally but then I hear a beep and I've lost all my apps and my custom launcher and I see a toast like message with safe mode written on it. I cleared my cache in recovery then it boot up back to normal. Just wondering if any one has seen this.

Weird, I have seen this message on my old ipod touch but never seen on android devices

1) turn mobile phone off.
2) hold power button down until the first white HTC Screen
3) now release the power button and hold the Volume Down button, until boot finished
Now you see "safe mode".
this is from older devices and can be used for removing bad third party apps
I had a couple time where it went into safe mode on its own.

Hi, I'm stuck in an app F/C loop and have read about entering 'Safe Mode' to load only system apps (NB: NOT the same as 'recovery mode' or bootloader.) I've tried all combinations of buttons till my fingers nearly bleed:
Hold down volume up & down during boot
Hold down menu "
Hold down home "
Hold down menu & home "
Can someone give me a precise instruction of what definitely works to get the Nexus S into "safe mode" please?
holding the power button continuously even after its into booting usually does it for me.
Sadly this does nothing on my Nexus S 3G. I remove battery, insert battery, hold power, and wait till it's fully booted. No safe mode. Is that right? Can you test again?
Try reinstalling your rom then fixing permissions

What exactly is your F/C loop? Do you mean a boot loop, or an app F/C on you continually?
If it's the later, how is it stopping you from using your phone?
Just trying to understand to help you.
actually it's my first time hear something about safe mode ...
if it is an application force close , try flash new ROM , this usually happens due to too many applications on your system
beside , consider the number of application of Android , i'm sure you can find some application similar
Holding down the menu button during boot up works for me

You can entery into SAFE MODE easy. Shut down your phone after that keep and don't let down volume and power till the pone is completaly open , now you can release it. You will see in the lower left corner "Safe Mode" - normal you are in realy SAFE MODE, try this till you will see the message. It's work for I9023 and perhaps for the rest.
Holding volume down + power during the full boot process worked for me. Thanks
First off I am doing this on behalf of my friend, I don't own a moto G but he does and and so I knew this could be a good place to get help.
Also some crucial information is that the phone is completely stock, not even rooted, and he has had the phone just over a month, so it still has warranty but it would be easier to get it fixed at home then going to a repair centre.
Basically, his phone froze from typing a message, so he held the power button for numerous seconds before it force turned off. He then turned it on, and from what he has told me it seems it did the boot up animation and then gives a black screen, and he can't do anything from there but force turn off. He tried using the 'factory' and 'recovery' buttons in the recovery menu (he pressed power+volume down which I suppose is recovery menu) and they brought him back to a black screen.
Through my knowledge I don't know what could have caused this, or how to fix this, so I've come on the one place that would be able to give help
Sorry if the details are a bit vague but that's all I know, and my friend would appreciate some sort of help to fix.
Thanks in advance

You will enter fastboot mode with power+volume down. Once in fastboot mode you can navigate through the menu using volume down and you can choose an option while pressing volume up.
EDIT: Oh im read somehow that he pressed Volume up. I was wrong with that.
If the problem persists after the recovery/factory reset (if possible) i would recomend you to give that phone to the repair center.
[Q]Can't get into Recovery Mode, possibly due 2 "sticky" power button. It got worse
Couple of things first to lay down the situation.
I'm on BEAN Builds 19,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973982
I'm also using ClockworkMod Recovery. Not sure what version.
Now my power button is one of those "sticky" ones, where it's not springy. This has caused me a few problems in which I can't seem to use the button to turn on my phone anymore. If the phone is off, I have to pull the battery, and then re=insert it to turn the phone back on. Also I'm not sure if button is "being held down", since it's so sticky, but the quick toggle options in the ROM for Restart and Recovery don't work. When I use the quick toggle for restart, my phone just turns off, and doesn't restart. As for recovery, I'll touch on that below.
Today I wanted to flash myself a new modem. So I tried to get into Recovery mode. I go into there once after a couple of tries, but the Power Button , being in the down position from the "sticky button", hit the option to restart the phone before I could flash anything/do anything. After a couple of tries of unsuccessfully getting into Recovery Mode the normal holding down buttons way, I decided to try the quick toggle in the rom to get into Recovery mode.
But just like hitting the restart option, it didn't do what I wanted it to do. My phone shut off, but that was it. Now when I try to battery pull and reinsert to get the phone to turn back on, all it does is show the Samsung Logo, turn black, and that's it. I'm assuming that it's trying to boot into Recovery Mode since that's what it was last told to do before I shut off my phone, and I also think that the "sticky power button" is throwing off the phone's attempts to do that.
Any help or direction would be great and much appreciated. Thank you for your time you took to read this.
Bang ur fone on a table. Seriously ppl been doing that on ur situation to pop out the power button. Try to cover ur fone or put a cloth on table so ur fone wont get scratch and stuff

I've got a very similar issue. Only difference is my power button is not stuck at all. However regardless of how I try to enter recovery/Download/ or simply to restart my phone I often times have to try 10 - 15 times before anything other than the Samsung splash screen into black screen of ??? Happens. Up until 5 minutes ago and hopefully for good something somehow decides to let the phone do as I had asked(told) it to do. Wish I had an answer or some help for you instead of reporting the same problem. Hopefully someone out there does.

Did you open up your phone and meter the button? If not its probably sticking. The button you see on the outside is just a contact not the actual button so it won't look compressed. Sounds like your problem is super sensitive button which is related to the sticking button in fact it was what happened to me beforeit started sticking.

I have a tablet that I am repairing for a friend, trying the usual combo for putting into recovery, it only has a home button, a power button and the volume up and down I believe, it also has a reset button. It gets stuck on the following screen in picture and when I try the recovery mode options that I've read this happens.. Any help would be great :/ (ps I know second picture is bad. It's back lit screen and when touched a white line goes across it)

Sorry, i am really new to this site, and never had a problem like this with a previous phone.
I get home from the grocery store and my phone is off, so it seems, plugged in it, got the M to pop up do the little world thing, then the screen goes to black,
i leave it to charge a little while, come back, and everthing on my phone is working , except for the actual display{now i know its not the display or screen because when i boot it there are no problems with the boot/restart} and if i touch around the screen it lightly vibrates, weird,
i put it to boot menu and my first time trying a normal restart nothing, so i go to motorolas website to get an application to back up my data or something get the motorola device manager and its useless, all it does is tell me my drivers are up to date, look around some more for an easy backup program can't find any except one that won't connect because i can't see where to press ok on the screen
just ended up copy pasting over all 5 gigs of hardrive space
i try to do factory reset, but if i click factory on the boot menu it just restarts it, if i go into recovery it pops up the picture of the opened android robot, and says no command, i have tried pressing volume up for 15 seconds, and then taping the power button to no avail,
interestingly enough once i managed to get the screen on for the phone then it faded to black like a screen saver never to come back.
Anyone know what i can do to unbrick the phone?a program that i can go in and restore it back to factory settings?
i recently updated to 5.0 maybe on friday, haven't had problems, or dropped phone since then
just extremely frustrating,
Recovery key combination was changed after lollipop. Press and hold power button for few seconds and then tap vol up (when you see android robot and no command)
