How does Android overclocking work exactly?
What do Devs do to get the device to run at higher clock speeds?? I've got a HTC explorer that has o/c kernel for stock rom but no o/c kernel for MIUI or CM9 [ Though overclocking didn't increase benchmark performance ]... May I know how does one modify the kernel and makes the device run at higher speeds?? Is modifying the kernel enough or something else has to be done?? Any help is appreciated..

I found a link explaining how to overclock motorola milestone phone on the fly without any reeboot or flashing a custom overclocked kernel. This information might be useful for overclocking galaxy 3 mobiles and I think this would be a better way of overcloking, since it doesnot require flashing a separate overcloked kernel.

Since our phone is using s5p6442 cpu, there are some slight changes that has to be done. I tried and compared the guide with our froyo kernel source released by samsung.
I found the frequency table for our cpu to be present in
arch/arm/plat-s5p64xx/s5p6442-dvfs.c
But i couldnt find which function manipulates the frequency tables present here,I'm not a developer so I'm posting what i know here, Hoping some developer takes this information and implementes it.
downloading the source codes now....wonder if i can figure out anything~im just a noob
I was wondering if there is a way to overclock the RMaxxHD now that it's updated to JB 4.1.1 and rooted. I wasn't interested in switching ROMs to CyanogenMod or anything else, just looking to do small mods (if possible) to increase the phone's performance and/or speed.
Anyone know if this is possible?
No way to over clock... We need a kernel that has support for it to be able to do that... I tried to use super charger with my phone... But never could get it running right... So I installed Pimp my rom app... It has a lot of tweaks built in... Try tinkering with that... It helped my device fluidity a lot

I have the above recovery installed, and previously had the kernel installed as well until I put on cyanogen mod 7.20130201 for the LG E720. CM7 is great; this is my first foray into modding my phone and it's grand. However, the CPU clock is maxed out at the stock frequency of 600 Mhz. I don't want to undo all my progress, so I have to ask, will the kernel above work with CM7?
Thank you.
I've tested oc kernels and came back to Adam Kernel and to my surprise this is the fastest one of all.
So i ask you all, do we really need to oc ore is stock values the best values?

Hello Androiders,
I'm not sure if this makes complete sense but is there a way we can modify an existing kernel from an ASOP based ROM to support CPU overclock?
There's a ROM I use for my Xperia Acro S which lets me overclock to only 1.5 Ghz using the Mokee kernel in the flash file.
But there are other ASOP based ROM for my device which support upto 1.89 Ghz overclocking. Please let me know if there is a way to modify the existing kernel to support higher CPU clock speeds.
I searched Google and XDA but couldn't find any tutorial or discussion about this, please suggest how this can be accomplished!
LOVE and PEACE,
Syed
