[solved] please delete thread - HTC Desire S

Hi,
I'm trying to s-off my desire s by downgrading hboot since I have hboot 2.00.002. (HTCDEV unlocked, but I lock every time before trying to install an RUU)
My DS is dutch branded by t-mobile. I read somewhere I should use the UK or DE TMO RUU, because there is none for the Netherlands.
First I tried to do it without a goldcard by changing my version number into 1.27.405.6 (which succeeded). I got error 131 CUSTOMER ID ERROR from the RUU.
Then I tried making a goldcard (which seems to succeed) and installing the P88IMG from the goldcard through bootloader. (From UK and Europe RUU)
Here I get the error : CID incorrect, update fail.
I have searched very thoroughly for a solution, but I can't find one.
I recreated the goldcard several times on two different sd's (2gb and 8gb), with the mmc2 from goldcard helper and also with the mmc1 from goldcard helper (because this was suggested to work in a thread somewhere).
I created the goldcard with HxD and with GoldCardTool, but no luck.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

106 views but no idea?
guess i own the only ds which is immune to s-off

Try to follow my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1866204
I used CID from mmc0 and it's OK

I expect its something to do with the branding. Anyone else on t-mobile managed s-off?

Or maybe the Version ...405(?)... Is it the same as the ruu version for your region and carrier/brand?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app

hi thanks for the replies guys :good:
I'm going to try that guide now, thanks a lot.
And for the version numbers: the 405 is not the version number of tmo.
First i changed to the right version number of the ruu of tmo, which did not work.
Then i read that with a goldcard one can install the europe RUU, so tried it with that version number.
No luck yet but im going to try some things. Will report back!
Thanks :fingers-crossed:

goldcardtool is only able to get the mmc1CID
edit:
Also did it with the mmc0 and changed the version number back to tmo, but no luck yet

Follow my downgrade guide and it'll be fixed in no time..
P.S.
No. It doesn't matter what ROM you are at as long as you have changed your misc_version.
P.P.S.
My guide is known to work for non-branded phones. But it should also work on branded ones as the method of downgrading is very HTC.

I think it might be going wrong with the version nr.
All guides say 1.27.405.6, which is an unbranded RUU. Should I downgrade with a TMO RUU or can I also use the goldcard to downgrade with a european unbranded RUU?
If I want to downgrade with a TMO RUU, should'nt my version number be a lower TMO version than the RUU has?
If that is the case; I don't think there is an older one. I can only find one (1.30.111.1)
Thanks for the replies!

okay seems i've just been monumentally stupid.
Dont know what i did differently but this time it worked...
Sorry and thanks a lot!

Ask a mod to close the thread. Please.

Will do.
1 thing Skanob; maybe you can state in ur guide that it's also for HBOOT 2.00.0002. That way I probably would have found and used it.

Yes

All I can say is make sure you do "exactly" what the instructions say. I downgraded my hboot and I got stuck for that reason. And if you have to post in that thread I did and got fast help but make sure you tell them exactly what's happening
is there no easy to follow guide for this? as im well confused and well newbied

[Q] Question on Software update/warranty, etc

I'm new to this site, just registered. Sorry i'm a noob!! So I have had the Blue Tmobile One S since august but sold that one to my friend and bought a black one from a guy and said it's from solavei, So I try it and everything seems legit except It's running Android 4.0.3 and Sense 4.0. So I go to menu>Software updates>check now to see if I can get the OTA they had in September but it says I am currently up to date. I checked my sotfware information and it said my software number was 1.84.1135.17 71ORD. I look online to see if I can some how download it and it told me that if I don't have these two other numbers and had something else then the warranty is void and I can't get updates. So My big question is how can I change my software number? Do I have to like root my phone? Then some how unroot it back to a different stock ROM? I'm open to suggestions and I would really like an answer thanks!!

If you're on 1.84 I would not update via OTA. You probably have a 1.06 or .09 hboot, which will be extremely nice for you.
I would suggest unlocking your bootloader via HTC and installing TrickDroid if you want stock. There arr several guides, including a all in one tool to help you with the process.

You can try typing *#*#CHECKIN#*#* into the dialer and then checking for updates.
Or you can find a T-Mobile US 2.35 RUU and running that. However it will be more difficult to flash ROMs once you have upgraded if you want to do that later on.

I tried that and all it did was say in my notifications "checkin succeeded" and nothing else happend.. so idk about that. I'm not really looking to root my phone, all I really want to do is have my phone run on the latest software and get OTA updates if possible. But if I need to root it, I will. And for the second thing, I'd have to root my phone to run the 2.35 right?

After "checkin succeeded" you should then check for updates in Settings, as I mentioned earlier.
You seem to be running an "ORD" build which is basically like a Beta test for the latest software. RD stands for Research & Development. The latest 2.35 RUU should work without rooting.
However that will upgrade your HBOOT and make it more difficult if you decide to root later on.

Best method downgrading hboot

I have read the tut for brick/unbrick and downgrade hboot in dev section. And if I read it good there are 2 methods of downgrade hboot
1) brick/unbrick device and downgrade hboot (first post tutorial)
2) change CID and run RUU with lower hboot (second post tutorial)
If these are the options I think the second is the easiest way to downgrade hboot, but why are most people downgrading there devices by bricking it? Are there advantages or disadvantages for each method?
Edit I have hboot 2.15 and want downgrade to hboot 1.06

Changing cid seems to have caused a few bricks for some people when trying to update to official JB OTA.
So would you advice to use the first method, although I already OTA updated to JB?

I have downgrad by the first method and i have test all the way to hard brick my phone
And I can say that it's impossible to hard brick your phone with this tutorial.

I think the issue happend when the cid was already changed on ICS, and you tried to update to JB. Changing it when you already are on JB shouldnt be any problem.
But I havnt done any downgrading myself, so I dont know... Its just what Ive read.

Just to be clear there is ONLY one way to downgrade hboot and that is with what you call option 1.
For what you describe as option 2 that ONLY applies AFTER you do option 1. If you want to run a RUU AFTER you've completed the downgrade you also have to do what is stated in the second post. Although it's much easier to use the the all in one tool kit reset your main version. This is achieved by and pressing the "Main version fix" button using the all in one toolkit. That will save you trouble of pulling mmcblkp23, hex editing it, then pushing it back to the phone.
Alright I understand it, I will read the tut again and try with my nooby knowledge of linux to downgrade

It's a pretty straight forward method. Try not to panic if you encounter a problem. The good news is that it's almost impossible to truly "brick" this phone. Just take a step back and reread the instructions paying close attention to the details. Post your questions about the process in the main thread, the people that follow it typically have a higher level of understanding then the forum overall.
If you don't have the required 10 posts to be able to post in the development sections go post some BS ones somewhere in XDA so you can get into that thread.
Oke thanks , it sounds doable to downgrade with these instructions

[Q] - S-off failed - need guidance

HI all,
I am sorry if this question may have been asked before but I have followed the instruction on [S-Off] Facepalm S-Off for HTC Devices One S, One XL, Droid DNA
but I still can not get the S-OFF.
I use the toolkit : [ROOT] HTC One X AT&T 2.20 Firmware - X-Factor root exploit
I believe my phone is rooted but I can not get the S-OFF. in the bootloader it said "Temppered" unlocked but the S-on
Can I please get some direction on what I did wrong?
Cheers
I want to flash either the telstra stock or the Clean rom I beleieve. I am not sure which one to try but I want the one with the closest to the stock but the optimised version of the stock.
Thanks
Arda
"Tampered' means you are rooted. That is a good thing.
What step of the S-off process are you stuck on? Any error messages?
Did you confirm you have SuperCID?

Cheers for the reply.
The steps which failed was when I had to confirm the restore. This is on the process getting the superCID.
I accepted the restore but on the screen on the phone the restore said "restore starting" and then few seconds later it said "restore end" as if restore does not get completed.

Ha, I called that one! The use of "cheers" had me thinking you were not an American. Its the dual core version of the One X/XL right?
X-factor only works for the AT&T version. X-factor is failing to change the CID because (I think) its looking for the AT&T CID (CWS_001) and not finding it.
I think you have to change the CID the "manual" way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671396
Instead of CWS_001, of course you will be looking for your carrier's ID (whatever that is).

At this point pretty much every Rom is stable. I don't think there are any ics roms in active development anymore. If you like close to stock go look at the roms in the android development section. They are mostly all sense based and each brings its own tweaks to the table

Don't muck around with firmware... HBoot versions etc. don't matter much once you have s-off.
If you like sense roms, Cleanrom is great (very close to stock) or ViperXL (much more customisable). You'll find both these in the Android Development thread. For a more native Android experience I'm loving Liquid Smooth, available in Android Original Development.
Good luck!

Return to stock

Hello xda members,
I ran into a problem the other day. My nandroid is no longer with me due to a defective hard drive . I now decided I want to return to stock to sell the phone.
I'm on hboot 1.27 and iam s off.
I want to flash an ruu, the phone is the Europe/international version. These forums are so big that I do not know where to start looking for ruu's, neither do I know what type I need since I have numberous phones and always kept a nandroid ..
Is there anyone that can either push me I'm the right direction or even give me a link to an htc ruu website?
Thanks in advance.

Since your phone is s-off you can write supercid to it and choose any RUU, but stick with the latest WWE ones.
