They are there, I see them in my explorer. But they won't show up on gallery. Why!!!

Any chance you froze media scanner or removed it from boot? Also check in the folder with your picture if you have a .nomedia file, if yes delete it.
I flashed EMBRYO 5.1 and am having this issue which is preventing me from further using it... had to flash back to v3.2 and my gallery once again worked...
I'll try deleting .nomedia files from certain directories and report back...
I know if you have a lot of videos and pictures on your external it will take a while for it to load them again. It took me about 15-20 mins to load all my videos. So give it some time. I still haven't figured this issue out with my file manager. Since on this ROM they changed all the file names so now I'm lost. Weird.

Deleted a .nomedia in the /sdcard root directory and let it run for a few minutes. Media scanner went along okay and finally worked again on Embryo 5.1
EMBRYO 5.2 is up!

I am using Astro File Manager on Droid and my .APK files do not have a thumbnail attached to them any more. I tried uninstalling & reinstalling but nothing seems to help. I have verified that the "Show Thumbnails" is checked also. I am not rooted and running Froyo, would I have to reinstall Froya? Is there a fix for this?
Sounds like you might have to delete the file and then reinstall it and see if Astro will pick it back up. I had this issue when I did the manual update with 2.2 FRG01B for some reason but just deleted it and then reinstalled and it picked everything back up... now using FRG22D and no issues once so ever.
Cheers
I am having the same issue but its on my G2 and its stock ROM not rooted. I have astro 2.5.2 from market and it does not create thumbnail for .apk files although it does create thumbnail for pictures and stuff.
I see you say to delete "the" file, I don't know what you mean by that? Do you mean delete all the apk files and put it back in from my back up in the PC? or delete something else?
Please help because this is working fine on my Vibrant and they are the same files that are in the G2 now.
thanks!
I flashed my nexus s to 4.1 today. then I took a picture but then I found that..
the picture saved to "/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/"automatically
what the fresh hell is "/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/" ? And I am pretty sure I didn't change any setting
Yeah, I haven't checked that in my phone but none of my media files are showing up in stock apps including gallery. There has been lots of threads in forums for the solution and I'm trying those one by one. There are many thread to link. Just google for "media in sd card not showing up in gallery jelly bean" I'm trying a few things. I 'll let you know if it worked.

That will be very helpful ^)^ thanks a lot :good::good:
Are you guys using a custom kernel?
Just snapped a pic and it saved to where it normally does. All my saved pictures are where they should be as well.
It looks like after 4.1 all camera files are being saved in /sdcard0. It shouldn't be a problem if all the files show up in the gallery. If there is a problem, there is a rogue file which is making the media server restart which is causing files to disappear. I did a format on SD and found the file by copying one folder at a time. If none of your files are showing in the gallery, I suggest you put a .nomedia file in all your folders, delete it one by one to find out the rogue file. Hope I had helped.
Hi,
I am not sure if this is in line with what you are saying but during the initial startup after flashing the update the phone finished updating applications then contacts database update and after that went to "media database" update!
I guess there might be some changes in the configuration and the structure of the new release!!

thank you for help ^_^
So a few flashes ago when I went to a new 4.1 version, I noticed that my old photos/videos/music/etc were no longer being read by gallery or music apps. I can still browse to them and play them from root explorer but Apollo and Google Music won't pick them up... And gallery doesn't see any photo taken before the flash. I verified it was saving to the same/right place... Still happening. Many reboots and re flashes... Just came back to ICS and issue persists. Any ideas legion? Thanks

There's a problem with the latest ROM Explorer update. Check in the ROM threads for the fix. It's gotta do with the .nomedia files placed in the sdcard folder causing apps to unrecognise files.
~edit - the problem isn't ROM related, rather the ROM explorer app causing the issue.

It's actually ROM Manager... Delete the .nomedia file from your sd and wipe data/cache for all affected apps, and reboot.
Ahhh that's the one. My bad.
Awesome, thanks guys. Today I learned where the nomedia files NEED to be so I don't have the entire data folder of pictures showing up in gallery... Yeah.

After i flashed jb rom from ics i i quickly realized there was no stock sms or any kind of stock file manager, i tried looking around but have not had anybody else have the same happen to them.
Samsung infuse running 4.1.1 cyanogenMod Version 10 and used Justabean aromoa 2.0.4
seriously considering going back to ics. i was just wondering if i messed up the initial set-up

Maybe it was an aroma bug...all rims should have a sms app...its common for them not have a file manager app though...file manager apps are not part of aosp or cyanogen source...

Download any file manager of your choice such as solid explorer and browse to the zip of the rom you flashed.
Go to system/app directory inside the zip, and copy the mms.apk
Paste it in your phones /system/app and set permissions to 644.

I guess my edit didn't go through I downloaded go SMS and astro file manager both work fine. It only bothered me because the SMS wasn't preinstalled. I might go back to ics in a few days. Although I got the buttery download the other rom was much smoother for me. And nice tip will do
i am running jb in my note 10.1 using zedomax's apps2sdscript
i found that it was annoying to let the gallery rescan each time i reboot (after swapping storage)
do i have the way to let the gallery scan only selected folders?
thanks

place a ".nomedia" file in every "no-media-folder"
Doesn't work on the JB release for anything that you put in after the initial scan.... Have .nomedia in a heap of folders and it works fine because I don't add to them but as soon as I add another file, whether its pic, vid, or music, it will scan the folder again and find the new files when I don't want them displayed in gallery....
