So... Maybe I just don't learn from my mistakes or I love custom ROMs, but I keep switching ROMs and trying different ways to make this toy more fun.
But, in the process I have to spend 30 mins daily plugging into Odin, wiping completely and starting over because I keep killing my device. Anyone else do this to their phone?
I have yet to brick this phone? I have almost tried every ROM cm aokp beans. How do you possibly brick?

I have never. Sorry to hear youre running into softbricks. Follow the instructions for each rom. Do a complete wipe too before flashing. Its a pain but hey. Better than s***ting yourself knowing you might have a hard brick

If you spend 30 mins a day on odin and you aren't developing your own roms or kernels and keep bricking, you really should consider reading a little more about flashing and save yourself the time and the headache. You could flash 10 roms a day and never use odin if you follow some simple steps.

Once, when I was trying to flash CM10, didn't know I had to unlock my bootloader, soft-bricked, reset everything with ODIN, then unlocked, re-flashed, and all was good.
I got the pleasure of learning the ropes on my galaxy player 5.0. Alot less of a risk there with it not being my phone, and cheaper if I f'd up! And yes, several soft bricks, some done on purpose to see what would happen. Highly recommend that type of device to learn. Buying a used phone cheap would also surfice.

Bricking happens. I didn't have an issue on my HTC Devices, but on this and my Charge I seem to be building houses with all the soft bricks.
Also, it's not about putting the Roms on, it's when you have to flash back to stock after a brick that you need Odin.
The good part is I'm confident in my ability to repair the damage without breaking a sweat.

That's the beauty about what we do. We learn from our mistakes. Fortunately for most of us, those mistakes aren't fatal. The more you learn the ins and outs of the procedures and commands, the better off you are in the long run, regardless of the device.

Wish I could say the same..But I once had a droid X.
i only bricked my Galaxy S1 when I first got into android and flashing, and since then no bricks at all.
Instruction are made very clear, and there's no reason to brick your phone since flashing is soooo noob-friendly.
I believe you should consider sticking to stock and now flashing ROMs anymore

I soft bricked my old LG Revolution like 239586254 times. But that was when I was testing things like kernels and roms made from new updates to go over old updates. Never hard bricked it though (Don't think is was possible with what I did to that thing). I have boot looped this phone a few times due to unknown reasons. Flashed AOKP and then a kernel (Wouldn't boot) Flashed AOKP it booted flashed kernel it booted but I had to boot the phone up once before flashing the kernel. Good times.
I've been rooting since hero days and never bricked or even soft bricked.
Main thing is following directions and wiping correctly.
In my experience reading posts people don't follow directions, not saying you don't, just in general

I think the major problem for me is that at times I don't check to make sure the bootloader got re-locked somehow, That's where my problem lies. Like I said, no biggie. It happens and we fix it.

OK so I keep hearing about cwm not wiping correctly same problem existed with the evo but has anyone tried instead of dfr to actually wipe system data and all that 3x in advanced I believe jw and wtf is a flash counter

I have no experienced this yet, but have also heard. I used the tmo gsII backup and i haven't had any problems so far. Tried about 4 different roms with no problems even flashed a couple kernels.
As for your question 2, search is your friend. A flash counter basically tells the phone how many custom roms you have put on it. Obviously starting at 0 going up. I believe to reset the counter you need a special usb tool.
Try searching using taptalk for a year it sucks balls I did look around and figured it but wanted to make sure and USB jig doesn't work anymore apparently Sammy sure has changed LOL but this phone is nuts compared to my evo just gotta learn her quirks

Ive run every leak that's came out ucalc4 ucld2 and now ucle2 and I've had absolutely no problems. I've flashed cwm touch and rooted all 3. I've did factory data resets inside the UI and in cwm. I've wiped cache dalvick cache and battery stats several times on all 3 leaks. I've flashed different modems and kernels and yes I've even formatted the SD both inside the UI and in cwm and I've had no problems. And yes chainfires brickbug app says my phone is at risk for being bricked. But I had already done all this stuff mentioned before I found out there was even a problem. So if your worried about the brickbug then maybe you should just stay on stock gingerbread. If your scared to take a risk and push things to the very edge then maybe xda isn't for you... we are a group of devs and tech savy people who test and push things to the edge to learn new things and make android phones better. Anytime you flash a rom or recovery image or modem or even root a phone you run the risk of a brick. I know people who have bricked phones with Samsung kies doing a official update. So if bricking scares you that much then just stay stock

The brickbug happens on ics kernels.
So.. wiping all that stuff from cwm (which seems to be based on gb kernel) is fine.
Do not format from within ics rom!
You may not corrupt your emmc, but its not worth the risk.

Hey guys I am new to the charge. I really want to root but I have some concerns first. For one I have already replaced this phone twice since I got it. If I un-root it will Verizon notice I rooted it at all? Also how safe is it? I really don't want a $300 paper weight. I rooted my old sch-m828c from straightalk and the phone wouldn't connect to the computer anymore; is that a concern with the charge? As from the last sentence I have experience with odin but my old phone lost the root somehow and i was unable to boot it back to stock. Is the charge better about stuff like that? Please respond with any help. (Best mods, safest methods etc.) Thanks in advance!

All your questions can b answered if you just read the DC development forum posts, everything is there. Just do the research first, read all the posts.that is how I started. I read n reread all the posts for a month, downloaded relevant files made shure I understood what I read n followed the steps to rooting n flashing to the last letter. Never had any problems.

Is it even worth rooting? My wife got this phone and man was it a piece of crap. Constantly freezing and rebooting. Are there roms/kernels rhat might make this thing a decent phone to keep as a spare?

Honestly this phone is super easy. I was able to root with clockwork mod, install a custom kernal and flash a Tom in about two hour and evertlything worked first try and my first time ever doing any of it.
Followvthe instructions carefully and do exactly as they tell you and you should be fine.

Dont think so but as long as you won't try too many things you should always have recovery to be able to restore Stock ROM.

As a fellow samsung owner i know what u are talking about. The answer is no. And in fact, unfortunelty in order for u to restore from most soft bricks, you have to unlock your bootloader by using an app released by asus that unlocks your bootloader and sends your serial number to them in the process which will permenantly void your warranty. Once u unlock then u can install a custom recovery and install custom roms. And even still, if u are bricked to where a custom recovery cant fix it...u are screwed. If you are not unlocked...u are screwed if the default recovery wont fix it.

Yea i feel ya. This is by far the worst measures ive seen to deter unlocking the bootloader. The original transformer tf101 had the ability to nvflash which entails putting the tab in an alternate boot mode, connect it to usb and by adb it would recover from any soft brick u could throw at it. Unfortunetly they got rid of this feature with the 300

They didn't get rid of it. It was just recently released by Nvidea. It was posted in the Portal that AndroidRoot.mobi got it working for the Transformer Prime. It requires a modified bootloader, so you can't just use it as-is. I'm sure that either they or someone equally as talented can get it going for us soon. I don't think the Prime and 300 are too different from each other.

I recently started using Goo Manager to download things occasionally, and to say the least I'm screwed. Downloaded the latest twrp recovery and it automatically booted into recovery and flashed the image. Endpoint...hard bricked.
Just be careful with goo is all I'm saying. I never confirmed it to flash the download and it didn't even ask. As soon as it was done dl'ing it just did it. I knew instantly it was going to be problematic. Because it wasn't actually the twrp img for my skyrocket. I was downloading it to use on another phone and transfer to my computer. So, now I'm without a phone. Sucks..
Anyone know of a way to get into download mode without having to use Jtag? lol prolllly not

I am not sure why someone that has been doing this for years would put anything on the phones memory that doesn't go with the phone for any reason. It seems like half, if not more, of the bricks that happen are because of the wrong thing trying to be installed on the phone. Knowing that, it seems like a good idea to NEVER put anything on the phone that doesn't go with the phone, if you plan on using it or not. I guess this is just another precautionary tale for others now because if you really are hard bricked then Jtag is your option. Assuming you have already tried download mode, Odin, etc...Anyone doing this as long as you would have already known to try that stuff first...right? Good luck.
I got into a similar problem with goo manager. Ended with hard brick. Will never use goo or rom manager. Odin and twrp or cmw are the way to go. And never, ever flash anything unless you know it's for your device. That was the problem with goo, it said it was but wasn't.

I've got 5 devices successfully running Goomanager / TWRP, and none of them have had a single issue. I just make sure that what I am getting for each device is FOR each individual device.

You know you can force a reboot of the phone during the download by holding the power key or pulling the battery, right? If you knew what the file was, why didn't you do that?
I've downloaded ROM files hundreds of times through GooManager and gapps files at least a few dozen on three different phones across two platforms (Rocket and Note II). I've also flashed recoveries through it more times than I can remember. It's never once caused a problem, downloaded the wrong file, or even soft-bricked me.
I thought you couldn't brick a phone by a botched recovery flash. Because it's only writing to the recovery partition and not the system. Just what I once read anyway.

I didn't know it was the wrong file until after it installed. It was supposed to be a gapps package that went with the Rom. I't didn't look right and I should have known better but I went with goo.
Just reinforces you should always know that what ever you flash make sure it's for your specific device.

I only used goo manager to flash touch recovery on and I have had no problem with it..werid..
I did copy a recovery on my old SG Europa and it was the wrong one and bricked it,lucky I was able to get a replacement. You learn from your mistakes.
