Hi, Im trying to restore (or unbrick) my Infuse, my CWM got messed up apon installing a ROM. Everything is all good exept for the fact the Heimdall is not detecting my device and windows sees it as an unknown device. Any help is appreciated. I am running Windows 7 (64 bit)

You are in download mode right?
Have you tried different ports?
Have you tried different cords?
What about Odin?
Did you have infuse drivers installed?

The only time I've ever gotten an unknown device error was after switching from the USB port I had always previously used. A simple PC reboot usually fixed any of those kinds of issues.

Did you run as administrator?
If not sure about drivers, maybe uninstall all (including Kies), reboot, and reinstall only the correct drivers (not Kies)
I'll be qkster would also suggest to try a different PC and different USB cord.

Have you tried it with OSX at all? I've always found Heimdall ran extremely well on Ubuntu, with no need for messing around with drivers. Since OSX seems to have a fair amount of Linux in it, it could possibly work right off the bat. I'm just guessing, as I have little to no experience with OSX.
Ok Update:
I got Heimdall to work (almost) under OSX but the kernal flash failed, and now Im stuck at a "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" but of course Kies is not recognizing my phone under Windows. Wat do now?
That's a form of download mode. Odin or heimdall should still be able to detect your phone and flash again.

Update: STILL not working Ive heard odin works better, its just not recognizing it . WHY!?!?!
And another update! Its finally working! I flashed it with Heimdall under Lubuntu linux, and it worked! Horray! I have my phone back! Thanks! to all of you!
Glad to hear you got it all sorted out. I spend 95% of my time on Windows, but when it comes time to Heimdall back to stock, especially if I'm also flashing the bootloaders, I'll boot into Ubuntu to do it. I've had Heimdall get flakey on me a few times with Windows, but Ubuntu has been pretty solid so far.
I had the same issue initially with my computer failing to properly load the device. If you completely remove Kies and the Samsung Driver package and then reinstall Kies it will work. That's all I had to do. Also; avoid front USB ports. The majority of them are flaky do to them being on the south bridge instead of the others running on the north bridge.
Heimdall has never worked for me in windows. I've tried it a few times and it never seems to recognize my phone. Odin seems to work every time without problems.

I've the exact opposite problem.
Having no idea what I was doing a while back, Odin screwed up all my usb port devices so long ago. That was the last time I used Odin.
With the Odin packages gtg, lost1 and jscott30 put together and the Heimdalls that are available, there should be plenty of options for return to stock.
Sounds dumb but I ran into this sometime back installed keis the reinstalled and it fixed my heimdall seeing the phone good luck

done these too if something happens on usb port connection & everything will be ok again.

Yeah, I've surfed some of the other XDA forums, looking for ways to root friends' phones. They're not all nearly so nice and helpful as what you're likely to find here in the Infuse area.

How I created these package:
I obtained the stock 2.3 bootloader from a link LinuxBozo gave me
The stock part.pit came from my device using Heimdall(Download Pit option)
Uploaded the UCKJ4 firmware to my device
Performed "wipe data" in recovery mode
Exploited the root prompt at the battery charge sequence using UART and grabbed the stock, wiped dbdata/cache partitions and params.lfs partition
Created a Heimdall tar.gz package using Heimdall 1.3
Finally, I used my Heimdall One-Click *BETA* packager to generate these one-clicks
This procedure can be reproduced for any custom ROM in the future by using the dd command to obtain the factoryfs and kernels from any device. Bootloaders may be obtained from within this package as it is an executable JAR file which can be unzipped.

This package is posted as a method to get your phone back to stock and the defuse kernel provides easy access to cwm.. I had it around and it works. I tested before posting. Its there because it will give CWM. I will probly post a new one later with a 2.3.6 kernel but for now, this is how you get CWM on your device from Linux or Mac with one click.
I needed to flash the bootloader in order to get mine to boot up, but its been running for ~1 hour now and looks pretty nice. Offhand, do you know if HDMI is working for you? I'll go ahead and test after posting and I'll include my results here.
Edit: Nevermind, found cross-post with the results I needed. Stock kernel, HDMI works, rooted kernel (Entropy, etc.) breaks HDMI as they're based on Rogers roms.

Use defuse kernel, boot into CWM, then flash a rooted CWM zip. This ROM is very new.

Also want to add when you open facebook newsfeed, it wont let you select news, status updates, photos and etc. If you refresh the page while in app it will show you the list. Small bug i came acrossed. Let ya know if i find more.

After running stock UCKJ4 for a few hours, I seem to be having an issue where I get an error message saying my Google Talk authentication is not working, to make sure Chat is enabled on my account, as well as returning errors any time I try to install things from the Market. Anyone else running into this? Going to try removing and re-adding my Google account.
Edit: Crap, apparently you can't remove it without factory resetting. Damnsauce.
After factory resetting, things appear to be fixed. Thanks again for this package!

I had a similar problem. Downloading apps from market told me I had Insufficient space on the device. Clearing cache and Factory reset fixed the issue, Incase any others run into this.

Just to clarify, I was not receiving the insufficient space issue, I don't remember the exact wordage. 'There was an error' and nothing else.

oh boy, there is always a risk of permabricking when flashing bootloaders, (unless you did the unbrickable mod or have a jtag)
ok to start to see if you are actually permabricked;
1 pull your battery out
2 get a good micro usb cable, try this with more than one if you have to, if you had a problem flashing it may have been caused by the cable.
3 insert the cable into the usb port and into the computer.
4 hold both volumes with the phone face down, while the volumes are held slide the battery into position. see if the phone enters the download warning screen, it will ask you if you are sure you want to flash custom firmware, hit volume up. it may also go into a phone + computer screen or strait into download mode. all are good signs.
if you end up in download mode congrats! reflash!
if the screen is still black id recommend sending the device to connexion for jtag flashing or to adam if he is willing to repair it, these methods will void the warranty do to hardware modification (the repair may require soldering) . you may also atempt a warranty repair with samsung or insurance replacement with att but if they find that you are responsible samsung will charge you for the repair and im not sure what the insurance company will do.
I have my friend's galaxy s 4g and he wanted me to root it then flash custom rom,
I didn't pay attention since it says galaxy s on the back, I just downloaded a rom and flashed it but phone already messed up.
right after flashed it, got this screen http://i.imgur.com/NIYK2.jpg (!) and somehow i was able to skip it and get galaxy boot logo then phone keeps restarting.. tried to put it into downloading mode, but no luck, computer say usb device cannot be recognized, I even tried different usb ports and different computer, noluck.
Tried to find solutions by using search but nothing.. I am thinking to buy usb jig.
Any advise?

Well, this does happens a lot. It'd be nice if odin could recognize which phone does the ROM you're about to install belongs to, and what phone is connected. If they didn't match, odin could warn you before flashing. And this wouldn't be happening as often.

Ok I did, I used odin and stock firmware to flash then this came up and wont go away,
BUT ODIN still can see the phone
You probably need to flash a good ROM with good bootloaders. If you're not worried about going to GB, you can do this:

I am downloading it, 10 mins left.
Last time when I tried to flash with odin 1.85, I got this error and it stucked, 1.70 didn't even work, failed in secs

Awesome, glad it's working If you're wanting root, the easiest way (for me) is to flash one of drhonk's kernels from here:

Make sure you grab the one that matches the ROM you're on (KG4 in this case). Flash it via ODIN (put it in the PDA spot), and flash. Those will give you CWM, root, & voodoo.
Before you do that, though, I would update to a newer GB ROM. KJ6 is the latest & people have reported better wifi with it. I'm running the KJ6 ROM, drhonk's KJ1 kernel, with Adrenaline Shot v12 and my phone runs great.

Hey guys. First I'd like to aplogize for posting so many help threads but I'm trying my best to figure it out on my own.
I was using one-click to stock when my mother dropped something and needed my help urgently, so I told my brother to start it up for me as my phone was already plugged in and connected. I am running the T959W rather than the T959V and my brother clicked on the option to flash bootloaders. The download was completed normally I think. However, my phone will not leave the recovery mode.
Could you guys please help? Thanks.
When flash bootloaders was hit on T959V back to stock, my brother said it said "MODEM UPLOAD FAILED ENDING SESSION". My guess is that it cleared my boot loader and then since it failed while trying to upload the modem, it ended the session without readding a boot loader? It continously says "MODEL UPLOAD FAILED" Whenever I attempt to use the T959V back to stock.

I have tried installing AOKP Milestone 6 by team acid unofficial (ICS) and CM10 (JB) but the same thing keeps occuring.

Sometimes heimdall is finicky so if you know for sure you got the drivers working and you followed instructions properly trying it a couple times in a row might do it....although I guess if you say it keeps failing that would imply more than once...

Yes it has failed every attempt (I''ve tried about 10 times).
At this point you should really start fresh maybe even a different computer and see if you get anywhere. Typically if it's not working it's a driver issue and you gotta get rid of all the drivers related to the phone and reboot, then re-install them using zadig...and maybe reboot again.

I think the driver is being recognized fine because it is being recognized by ZDiag, T959V back to stock program, Hemidall. I am not quite sure what the problem is :|.

Maybe the gods will chime in about now...?
I suggest using a new pc too. Sometimes its a simple conflict that is causing the problem and a different pc will fix it every time.
Try a different cable/port combo? Sometimes cables die at the worst times....

Hmm, I just tried it on my laptop, back to stock T959V flashs just fine however I still ahve the issue of being stuck in recovery mode but I can't get T959W to work still.

When flash bootloaders was hit on T959V back to stock, my brother said it said "MODEM UPLOAD FAILED ENDING SESSION". My guess is that it cleared my boot loader and then since it failed while trying to upload the modem, it ended the session without readding a boot loader? It continously says "MODEL UPLOAD FAILED" Whenever I attempt to use the T959V back to stock.
The problem is you are using the V HOC's there is a package for W phones on the forums.

Yes I realize that however, I checked the T959W thread and they said there were no bootloaders. And that is likely the thing that is messed up right now. Thanks for your help!
I think there's no way to flash bootloaders on W's and the package that's specifically for the W was designed just for this purpose, to bring back a phone that's messed up from attempting to flash V bootloaders. Have you tried downloading it again? If that's the only one you have trouble with maybe it's just a bad download.

Oh also you can go in and uncheck flash modem on the one-click and the rest of it should work just fine. I think.

This might help me just get the boot loaders fixed!
here is the deal unless you worked some weird voodoo magic you never flashed the V's bootloaders. There is a partition in there that will not allow it to work properly.
Rereading getochkn's instructions you should not be flashing the bootloaders as he DID NOT include them. Follow his directions to the letter. Dont use the one clicks for the V. I remember chatting with him in IRC while he was trying to figure this out and he could NOT flash a hoc for the V with bootloaders successfully I dont even think it worked without bootloaders.
Ok, So I installed LiquidSmooth and Gapps (or at least tried) then go to the last option (Reboot System) Now its stuck doing nothing, it just sits at the blank screen, I also tried putting it in Download and Recovery Mode.
Someone out there, HELP ME.:crying:

Not sure how it works on the SG3 but for us Sony people, all we have to do is put it in flash boot and flash a file and we are back at stock.

That is only for Sony phones.

So, I took the battery out, plugged it into my computer and my computer made a sound that something was plugged in, but it does not show the device in my files program. the LED (red) light is now off and I can not get it to boot at all. Nothing comes up on the screen.
You probably flashed the wrong Version of a Rom you'll probably have to send it to these people on the internet they fixed mine for 60 bucks because I flashed a wrong kernel and mine did the exact same thing yours is doing

Everything gets altered by the manufacturer so just because your Sony phone has whatever it was we were discussing doesn't mean that Samsung has kept the same functions.

It's just a normal stock image file. Why doesn't Samsung have a stock image for their altered version of Android? Most companies do it. Motorola does it, Sony, same with my Nexus 7. It has stock images. And I'm sure they do, why don't they just release it?

We do have stock image files. They are flashed by connecting the phone to a PC and using a program called ODIN. The phone must be in download mode in order to flash files though ODIN, and the OP has said he cannot get his phone into download mode. So ODIN doesn't help him at this point..Hope that helps you understand how it is done on a Samsung phone.

Again since you're new to the Samsung dealings with bricked phones going through Verizon is pointless if he can go to mobile tech video's website and ship them his bricked phone and they will fix it for 50 bucks.
J tag will not work I have one and it wouldn't put it in download mode so I had to send it in to mobile tech videos

Um mobiletechvideos do have jtag too and why do you think people keep recommending the websites jtag services as they actually know how to use jtag. As for the matter of jtag it seems like you didn't know what you were doing when using jtag so you send it to mobiletechvideos which basically did the same thing you did but with more experience with the debugger tool.

I'm trying a new method, So I'll update you guys on what works and what does not.

My Galaxy S 3 that's a Verizon flavor is solidly bricked. I've tried almost every method out there (in the wild wild Internet) and nothing has even gotten the device to turn on or flash or anything.
Here's the thing thought: When I take the battery out and plug the S3 into my computer (or wall charger), the LED (red) light comes on as if it is charging (when plugged into the computer, it actually installs the USB drivers as it is recognizing it, but ODIN saw it once before [still bricked] but doesn't anymore).
If there is any other way I can perform a different method on trying to unbrick this thing. Feel free to send me a message on here.

You are describing classic signs of a hard brick. Jtag is your only help. Contact mobile tech videos.

There is no work around you have to use jtag services to fix hardware bricks. There is one for every smartphone.
Did I completely hose up my Samsung Infuse?
All the phone will display is this:
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue.
Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
Nothing else - no recovery menu, nothing except the above message.
Samsung Tech Support says the Infuse is incompatible with Kies.
I was trying to updated the firmware to ICS.
Is there anyway to recover this phone???

I contacted Samsung Tech Support and they say Kies does not support the Samsung Infuse.
Guess that is why when I enter SGH-I997 as the model # in Kies, it says its not a valid model #.
Wonder if Samsung is just abandoning the Infuse?
What I need is a procedure to do a complete Factory Reset where my Infuse phone does
not have any menu selections for download, etc. The phone will only display "Firmware
upgrade encountered an issue ..."

Just download a factory firmware and flash it with odin or use heimdall.

I did try odin this morning. Odin reported success but the phone won't do anything.
I checked PDA and selected a Clockwork Mod (CWM) hoping I would get the boot menu but no go.
I had these checked: Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, and F. Reset Time.
Now that I think about it, should I have selected BOOTLOADER rather than PDA?
Phone this afternoon is at Best Buy where a Samsung Tech is looking at it.
I watched him work with it using Kies, etc and while there it was not fixed.

Got the phone back from Best Buy -- no joy.
Tried everything to un-brick this phone.
Did learn that Kies is not compatible with Samsung Infuse.
There might be a setup with Odin that will unbrick it but I really think its going to take some
other software because apparently data is not being placed in the phone.

THAT DID IT -- Thanks very much, I have my Samsung Infuse working now.
Those files worked perfectly with ODIN -- I did choose the rooted one.
What confused me was that my Samsung Infuse screen had only this on it:
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue.
Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
BUT, when you provided me with those tiles above and I setup Odin
to use files for PIT, PDA, and PHONE, a blue progress bar started
appearing just below that "Firmware upgrated encountered ..." message.

PS: I spent a long time chasing down a file called GTG Ultimate Unbrick that
took me to sites that wanted to install spamware, etc. Anyone running across
threads like that, don't waste your time -- instead use the process mention
by the nice person who helped me.

I read over the thread for ICS but I could not find a download link for the Samsung Infuse.

BUT, when I try to boot ICS in Recovery, all that is displayed is ...
GALAXY S
cyanogen (mod)
... and nothing else happens.
I had to remove the battery to get the phone to work again.
I tried to enter Recovery by selecting the Reboot Recovery and also tried
holding down both Volume Up/Down and the Power buttons but they only
resulted in the GALAXY S screen.
Any advice?
