desire S problems with all custom firmware!

I have a problem with the camera and video hardware to all custom firmware which are based on cyanogenmod kernel. Camera work but does not move and hardware video on player don*t move. On firmware are based on stock all right work. I've tried everything hboot and recovery but result is the same. Install Miui 2.1.6.08 then install kernel UNITY_V9_2.6.35.14 is the only variant when camera well works but hardware video does not work at all. I hope to help developers!

When you install cyanogen don't flash the tiamat kernel, just a thought :3

I repeat once more when flash cyanogenmod or Miui with cm kernel, I have a problem with the camera and video and tiamat kernel does not affect this

i hope someone could take a look at this and lend a hand. i've got the same problem with my Desire S. Used both MIUI 1.12.30 and then Reaper v1.1, both really good ROMs except for the video playback problem. It does the same when trying to take pictures, the camera preview window would freeze after a couple of seconds but pictures come out ok. same thing when viewing videos through browser or when i try to watch a video file saved in the sd card, video freezes after couple of seconds but audio is totally normal.

Picture with any camera app is black.

Hi., experiencing an issue with my sensation. When I the camera and take a picture, the saved file is black. No picture. But the camera is working fine. Can read bare codes.
I'm using CM9 RC1
If anyone have an idea, please tell me.

Hello all,
I have the same problem as you with my camera. The Gallery isn't displaying my pictures from my camera. it started out with some of them just being black and saying no thumbnail when i would select it. When I open one of it in the gallery, only "loading" appears.
Somebody heard about this issue? I have this problem since last Thursday. I'm using cm9 nightly build.
I try a full wipe but no effect on it...

New camera apps still access the same base camera apk.
So you might have a borked camera apk. You could flash a new one.
Or if you have a custom ROM or kernel something in the rom or kernel might be bad. Try reflashing the kernel, then try a different kernel, then reflash the rom, then try a different rom.
Though i doubt the kernel is at fault since you can read bar codes. It sounds like the camera isnt converting its images to files. That could be a apk issue or a rom issue

I try to reflash the rom with a full wipe, no effect... Is the kernel flashed when a rom is flashed (For me a kernel is present inside a ROM, isn't? ) ? If not, which Kernel I have to use?

I tried with another Kernel : the Kernel Bricked 3.0 v1.4 but doesn't change anything. How can I find a stock camera app apk?

I tried with CM10 rom and the same problem. So the problem is not related to a specific ROM and not related to a kernel.
What's the problem?

+1 here, cm9 && cm10 not working, miui based on stock kernel working
on cm9 && cm10 the camera preview works fine,

I've the same problem, I am pretty sure my camera is fine. It can take the photo even in preview the photo is fine, but it cant save the photo , it just a black image with a exclamation sign, not only this there are other problems too like , with youtube app I cant watch videos, with gallery apps the videos ( that i took before) are blue shaded and not clear and laggy , but with mx player both videos are working fine, Tried a lot of roms , in MIUI rom youtube can play videos also gallery playback is fine , but the camera problem is still there , tried a lot other roms too like ahrd , viper, revelation , aokp, cm10, etc etc, only with miui youtube and gallery playback works flawlessly. Any solution anyone ?? please ? I changed the sd card too, nothing.

after unlocking and flashin 4ext and a new rom my camera looks fine, but doesn't save the pictures... anyone any idea please?
i really miss my camera!!!

I even went to stock rom, still my problem persists . I guess its problem with 2D GPU thing, cause even in weather app when I click on demo the sense weather thing doesnt work. Sometimes it takes a picture but with serious bluish tint.

[Solved] Camera bugs 4.1 sense roms 720p

Hey Guys
I Got a question about the new roms.
Why does the camera not work good if i switch from 480p to 720p (HD).
i see a green screen flickering when i turn it to 720p... And when i play the video's it's still worse...
Have seen this problems on Sense 3.6 ICE DS, Sense 4.0 roms....
The Desire s does officialy support hd right?
Somebody any idea's?

Yes! You need to work with the Stock Kernel 3.0.16.... then everything should work great!

[Q]blue flicker while capturing/watching 720p

Hi, does anyone know how to fix the blue flickering while capturing on 720p and also while watching the captured 720p video.
I itried many rom.
Roms that i tried: Fallout, Desire XS, ViperSAGA

i am using now vipersaga v1.1.0.
No problems with it
I think its because of the tweaked kernel in custom roms is not stable....
vipersage v1.1.0 has got a stock kernel 3.0.16 and it handles fine with 720p.
And also go to recovery menu to fix permissions (helped for me)

When i tried to flash the latest XI kernel there no flickerings anymore.
I will test if this is the real solution.

3th post! and it is pretty fast with the stock kernel and stock everything.
Edit: ICE DS 5.2 haven't got any 720p flickering problem (Try it )

Stock kernel of viper have blue flickerings. I'll try to flash latest XI kernel.
EDIT: i dont flash the XI kernel. I just use FIX PERMISSIONS on my recovery. Because fix permissions on venom tweaks dont work.

Yep i don't recommend it.... 720p still gives blue flickering....
and its very laggy and slow

i think it is faster as 6.5 it feels very comfortable and i haven't spot a bug!
Just try it out!

After few hours after i use FIX PERMISSIONS. The blue flickering appears again.
I'll try to flash the XI Kernel.
Hope it will work.

That new kernel has so much bug and lag in my experience

Which kernel is recommended then?? Im also facing the same problem..

I've tried ICE DS 5.2 but i've found the same 720p blue flickering, even after fixing permissions in recovery.
I'm going back to 6.5

Im now using stock rooted rom. And im selling my DS becase of this bug.

Is this bug known to everyone??
Strange thing is that this problem happens only while using sense ics rom.I was using miui(jb) some days before but everything was fine with 720p videos watching/recording...

Did you tested it? Does it work for Ice ds 7.0 and 6.5 ?

Video camera not working - anyone else?

I don't use my phone to shoot video often so not a major issues, but I current cannot record video on the default camera app (or any other camera app, when I attempt to shoot video it FCs.
Currently I'm running the latest build of Cataclysm ROM + faux 002m kernel. When my phone was running stock the video camera worked just fine.

Did you clear the camera data and then try opening it?

backup everything. full wipe and reflash just the rom and gapps. boot in, setup and make sure everything is working. then, if you want to stick with faux, download the latest release (005) and flash in recovery. report back.

I'm rooted. Actually I don't know wether it was capable of recording video, because it's a replacement device and I haven't tried recording video before updating to 4.4.2.
But since recording video is not a big deal for me, I don't know if i'm willed to go through the backup-flash-restore procedure. Propably I'll do it when PA is available.

Fixed by flashing Franco kernel r24 :S
