You need to be running all stock software including Recovery. You are using a custom recovery.

Just flash base firmware file via odin
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
What if the base rom is a zip file instead of a .tar?
Thanks.

You extract the zip and there should be a .MD5 file for the stock ROM.

Flashing an fxz will completely return you to stock, so you will be able to download and install any update for your phone.
Since you are in India, you will want to flash this fxz. Good luck!

I believe you need to flash via RSD or boot AP Fastboot to return to stock that way.

You have to use RSD lite or Fastboot to flash the fkz. Look in the noob thread found here!
Hi Guys:
I have a doubt.
I had installed cm9 rc2 on a nexus s i9023 then i used a backup to revert to stock ics 4.04 and received the OTA update.
But when it was about to install i got the following message
Install untrusted package-----> this was in the upper part of the screen
THIS CAN BE UNDONE------->
CLOCKwordkmod recovery v6.0.0.7
finding update package
opening update package
verifying update package
E:failed to verify whole-file package signature
E: siganture verification failed
After that i choose to go ahead an the update installed
It also asked me to disable recovery !
is the unsigned package cmw 6... or am i wrong and i have installed a no official rom?
Help me to clarify was going on !
I could bar wrong, but you may have signature verification enabled within CWM. And also, you are given the option to keep CWM upon flashing the official update.

i have check an signature verification is disable in cwm but i think that the update when throw stock recovery (android guy in the background) that's why i think that the package that the message refres is cmw, but my question is why? What does have to do cwm with the update if the stock recovery was working?
Did you use stock recovery to flash? If so, my opinion on stock recovery isn't good. Lol.

Double check !, CMW Recovery was used !
Check twice with OTA and manually updating with the update file place in sd card
Same result !
Guess it happens because of CMW Recovery as you alreday told me , maybe CWM does not recognize the signature or something !
Guess learn something new today !
Thanks man !

I just had alook on the CM11 dev thread. Its Alpha 2 - TESTING! Means you can't expect ANYTHING! BTW its the dev version you installed.
You saved a lot of time if you checked out the correct thread --> LINK !!!
Use awesome PhilZ advanced CWM --> LINK
or
TWRP 2.7 --> LINK
here

Stable CM11 works perfectly except after installation of Gapps quick panel setting on status bar can not be accessed.
Can you solve it?
Thanks in advance.
I use Sambadroid.
I have flashed my Galaxy Mini with CM11. The ROM installed perfectly, but when I tried to flash Gapps, it gives a status 0 error. I am using CWM v6.0.4.5. Somebody help me !!

Status 7 error is caused while the ROM’s updater script file checks to see if the phone model of your phone is compatible with the ROM/ZIP you are installing, called “asserts”.
“Asserts” is a safety mechanism so you don’t accidentally install another phone model ROM/incompatible ZIP on your phone. E.g. You tried to install Galaxy S2 ROM on a Galaxy S3 and ending up hard-bricking your phone but you got Status 7 error which saved you.
Here is the CM11 "small" GApps package. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23311191640114013 (Offical link)
The package should flash because it has no security and is compatible with all KitKat roms.
But then, it's not a status 7 that i'm getting. i'm getting a status 0 error. what is this supposed to mean ?
I have recently tried to install a custom rom on my s4 but I keep getting "e signature failed installation aborted"

what recovery do you use? stock? flashing a custom firmware can be done with cwm or twrp recovery!
if you use cwm and the signature error exists, then try turning of signature verification from the cwm menu :good:
