[SOLVED] Where to buy a Galaxy S Blaze? - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

Hi fellows!
I’m about to fly to US and I’ll need a phone in there. BUT, being an Android user and an avid XDA reader, I know I should buy ONLY telephones that can have unlocked bootloader and at least a CM kang rom option. (once you leave a stock rom, there’s no going back!)
Well, it seems this Blaze 4G is the best phone I can get. Sure, it rom scene it’s still gearing up, but I have hopes it’ll get better by the end of the year – I have hopes we’ll get at least CyanogenMod support somewhere down the road.
So, my big question to you guys is: how much did you pay for your Blaze 4G on a Monthly4G plan?
Through T-mo website, there’s a good offer for me – 299 with a 50US card. BUT, I’m not sure I’ll be able to buy it from the web. Is this offer available in a brick and mortar store – WalMart, BestBuy, Target, anywhere else?
It’s really a simple question and I’m just trying to provision myself for this long trip.
=====
Well, thanks XDA fellows for all answers. I guess I have enough info for now.

I bought mine on Ebay. For my monthly 4G, I went to Walmart and bought on of those cheap flip phones, took the Sim card and activated the $30/mo plan which gives Unlimited Text, 100 voice minutes, and 5GB of 4G before you are throttled to 2G speeds.

You can get it from a T-Mobile store. But to get a plan you'll need a social security number.

im getting ready to pick one of these up for my daughter at walmart. price listed for me with a 2 yr agreement upgrade on her line is only 18.88
UPDATE: so i didnt get it at walmart, went to the tmobile store. paid 150 for it, but got a 50 dollar rebate and got a 50 credit on my next bill, so total was 50 bucks plus tax. now my 12 year old daughter has a better phone than both me and my wife LOL

I bought mine at t-mobile my plan is close to minimal with 500 minutes 2gbs of 4g then unlimited 3g after its used up and unlimited text. But i dont have insurance its practically useless when i can fix any software malfunction myself. I pay $73 and change a month for a single line i personally think thats expensive but all well.

Upgrading through amazon

i'm on the grandfathered unlimited data plan and was trying to upgrade through amazon but there's no way to get through checkout without choosing one of the new tiered data plans. has anyone been able to get around this or know of a way to get with the amazon price without changing data plans?
Ha , that is funny. I considered using amazon but couldn't wait for my infuse. If that is the case why not just check out get it and drop the tether . Shouldn't be no biggy. Anyways , this infuse is sexy.you'll love it !

Amazon charged me a $250 Etf on top of At&'s Etf when I had to sell my Captivate and cancel my contract last year. So my Captivate cost me around $700 when it was all said and done. I'll never buy from Amazon again.

Personally, I wouldn't take a chance on losing it. I'd just go to a retail store to purchase it just to be safe. Having said that, if you just switch your SIM card from your existing device and do not activate the SIM card Amazon sends you, that MAY keep you on your existing data plan. This worked for me when upgrading my wife's phone from Best Buy online.

Yeah, it says that right on their site if you cancel within the first 6 mos. This is pretty common practice for most resellers.
All you have todoiscall art after you petit and tell them you grandfather in and they will change it. I've done this with Wal-Mart before.

Do you feel better about yourself now? I'll never understand the need some people have to try and prove themselves superior to others by cutting in and making statements like yours. I know it is on the site but I had lost my job and had a family to feed. I paid the fees later and settled up with At&t also. But if it makes you feel better....yes I'm just an idiot who never read my contract and has no reason to complain about paying $150 more than what the device was worth.

I agree with this 100%.
I wouldn't risk losing your G-pa data plan by buying from amazon and then calling AT&T to switch back. Big gamble to save $50 up front but lose hundreds of dollars in monthly data charges.
Also, I *heard* that AT&T is selling the phone on-contract for $149 (same as amazon) if you buy an accessory. But even if that's not the case (no pun intended), I personally wouldn't risk it.
Call ATT and tell them about it. They should be able to fix it back to the unlimited plan. Believe or not they are pretty good about that.

This is true but avoid doing anything that has to do with your plan and features on the web. Its a headache and they won't care about what fees come on your bill. Example: upgrade fee, activation fee. I see it everyday as i do the same work in a store.

Dont do that. I work for at&t and that's a gamble not worth taking. Re adding a unlimited data plan is extremely time consuming as well as job threatening if re added for trivial reasons such as so a customer can save 50 dollars by purchasing from an indirect retailer. Is 50 dollars worth potentially losing unlimited data? Probably not

Are you telling me that if i call ATT and explain that i could not choose the plan when i order the new phone but i want it fix once i receive my phone they wont help me?
You do know they can see all changes made to your plan. I am sure if you call them the same day you get your phone (a couple of days from the change) and explain the situation they will help you.
Worse thing, send the phone back to amazon and tell them to put your account back to how it was before. Go to a local place and get it there.

Woah man, I wasn't trying to put you down in any way. Sorry if you took it like that. You seemed pretty upset with Amazon for charging you the extra fee, and I was just pointing that they're not the only ones who do that. It's pretty standard practice unless you buy directly from AT&T, and I feel Amazon is more up front about it than most. That's why I was saying it's right on their site compared to a lot of places where you'll find it buried in the fine print. Again, didn't mean anything personal by it.

Yes it seems kinda lame, do the math though and it's not so bad.
250 upfront for the phone
50 mail in rebate and a 120 bill credit=80 for the phone.
Better that the wallmart deal, it just takes some time for it to pay off.

Ah, I see the grayed out text at the bottom now, barely readable so as to hide it from customers.
The graphic in the picture says one year of free data without any asterisk at all, not one year of free $10 data.
Isn't that illegal false advertising? Jerks. I hate when companies do that.
& to think I almost waited for the Sat sale. Need to look closer @ details & see if we can access this for our grandfathered plans, I'm not giving that up. Wish I'd picked up those free phones for my kids in Feb, arghhhhh!
The word from my market manager is that there will not be any more free phone sales (like last year's father's day sale) because of high fraud / cancellation rates.
This market manager is not a very reliable source ( calling her an idiot is an insult to idiots everywhere ) but this makes sense now that we know what the sale is.

FYI, if you are adding a new line or are a new customer, tmo currently has the MT4G and SGS 4G for free if you do it online. One of the phones ends today, but the other one doesn't expire until Thursday. Won't work for upgrades, buy if you are adding a line for your kid, this is the way to go. Pull the trigger quick though.

Great Customer Service!
I went to a local store here in Fremont to get my first look at the Sensation and asked about the Father's Day special. A salesperson named Candice answered my questions and handed me a Sensation to play with. I asked for her business card and told her I would be back on Sunday, thinking that was the day of the promotion. I then went to find my wife and daughter at the Michael's craft store next door. About 15 minutes later, I run into Candice while shopping inside Michael's! She realized that I was mistaken about the day of the sale and actually ran next door to find me and tell me it was on Saturday!
I know that she probably gets a commission on phones that she sells, but I still think it was very kind of her to find me and tell me the correct date. Imagine if I had shown up on Sunday and was told that the promotion was the day before!
So to thank her for her kindness I am telling her story here on the forum in the hopes that some of you will buy a Sensation from her. Let's see if we can help her get the "Employee of the Month" award! I don't know if my credit will qualify for a two-year contract, but I intend to find out on Saturday! Wish me luck!
If any of you live in the Fremont, CA area and are planning on buying a Sensation, please go to the T-Mobile store at the corner of Mowry Ave & Fremont Blvd (store address 39172 Argonaut Way) and ask for Candice.
A little extra for you folks I found today over at fatwallet. After you get your phone head over to this link and follow the instructions to get a 125$ visa card if you are a NEW T-mo customer.

So 250-50 mir-50 sensation promo-120 fathers day-125 for switching to Tmo= they are paying you 95 bucks to get this phone on Fathers Day. I'd say that's a bit better than a free phone.

If you cant pay you cant play...... Seriously if you cant afford another 10 dollars you shouldn't have bought the phone.
Ok asshole. Instead, I'm a high schooler who wants a dev phone (relying on just the sdk emulator is a *****), and has to pay for it by myself because the nexus s isn't on Verizon, which is what my parents have. I can't sign a contract for another 10 months because I'm not old enough. And I can't afford to wait until the prime, because I have work I want to finish right now.
I'm not using the medianet plan. I'm using the $50 unlimited plan. They work the same, because at&t scans for imeis of known smartphones that they sell, like the atrix. I was just wondering if the canadian nexus s worked because recently best buy USA started selling an att version.
My nexus one never worked on it (only text and calls), so I was just wondering about the s. I can get a new white one for cheap.
Edit: but seriously dude why would you come to a random person and say stuff like that? I guarantee you wouldn't say it to my face. I bet you wont even call me and say it. Why do you think you're so much better because you can sign a contract and pay extra money?
AT&T Crack Down
AT&T will eventually find out that you are using an excessive amount of data throughput via "medianet". I know there was an iPhone 2g trick that would fool AT&T into allowing the $15 plan; however the access in which your smart phone "dials out" to AT&T would expose your phone as being a smart phone. I had an N1 on AT&T and they knew the IMEI number... I bought it via Google too. AT&T has their ways...
The only thing you could do is get the NS, w/ or w/o a 2yr plan and use the DataPlus plan for $15. (If cost is an issue.)
Cost isn't the issue, its the contract. I can't sign one. I'm on an incredible s right now from Canada on the dumb phone plan with ATT and I was just wondering if the nexus would know or not. They knew about my n1 but not my inc s.

I bought one prior to it releasing on AT&T (through Best Buy mobile) and it worked fine on the $10/$15 MEdiaNet Data plan. Decided to sell it as soon as AT&T released it as their own. I've been wondering the same question lately seeing it's one of the best android phones for the price (I can get a used Rogers one for about $300 unsubsidized.) I'm currently using the Desire Z from Bell Canada on the MEdiaNet plan.
P.S. Would you be willing to sell your Incredible S for around $300?
No thanks, I'm looking for closer to 400 on it. But OK cool the nexus worked

the unlocked t-mobile version isn't seen as a smartphone by at&t and the poor soul who had the nexus one that was spotted as a smartphone, if yours had the t-mobile frequencies then you were just unlucky.
if its built with t-mobile 3g then it will only connect to the EDGE network and i don't think at&t really cares.

Everyone should just stop. I figured it all out, I'm now on straight talk for unlimited everything + 2gb data for $45 a month, and it uses AT&T towers (mvno carrier). This plan worked better, but it requires a $100 fee to start up, but I paid the price because I can't sign contracts.
I wanted to use the medianet plan because I can't sign a contract while I'm under 18. I never wanted to get free apps, or do anything like that. I've been around XDA for a bit, dabbled in devving for a few phones, and I'm pretty sure some of my threads are even stickied. I know the rules etc.
All that said, PLENTY of threads are on XDA about taking advantage of the medianet loophole. It saves $20+ a month, and data is unlimited (not available to other plans) and unthrottled. Many people have no problem sticking it to a corporation that they hate like AT&T, and IMO unlimited data should be unlimited.. smartphone or not, so I had no problem with the idea of it.

I bought a rogers nexus s (french+english text on box) and they changed my data plan
I got a white i9020a (canadian?) and they changed my dataplan from medianet to a smartphone They can't have the IME number though.. and I tethered all the time on my Nokia E71 w/ medianet so I don't think it was data usage that tipped them off.
How could they know I got an i9020a Nexus S? Maybe a heuristic like if you download from Google's market servers you're on a smartphone?

Chance to get out of your Sprint contract without ETF.

I searched but couldn't find a similar thread.
On my March bill in the Important Information section it says that they are changing the way they calculate taxes and surcharges on premium content:
Tax & Surcharge Base Changes Effective 4/1/13, Sprint will be changing tax systems for charges such as insurance & premium content. This update may cause an increase of taxes and/or surcharges on your bill for these products. For details of taxes & surcharges, visit sprint.com/taxesandfees.
There is a slickdeals post talking about it.
It hasn't shown up on my bill yet, but may on the next bill. The URL they refer you to hasn't been updated since November, so you can't determine if your rates are going up.
Taxes going up isn't a reason/way to cancel, but if they increase the premium service fees in any way then you can cancel without the ETF.
It's worth looking into if you want to drop Sprint for another provider (or just get out of contract to get a new phone).

Correct, which is why you could cancel your contract ETF free.
The question is, what is considered premium content. Is the $10 charge for more a smartphone considered premium?
Also, this may only be regional.I know people in California have been able to cancel already without the ETF.

The phone itself doesn't determine premium or not. Premium features may be items like damage protection, international calling, etc. It almost definitely has nothing to do with what phone you have. It's premium service features.
They don't charge an additional fee for LTE service. They do however charge a fee for Smartphone data service (since smartphones use more data than a traditional cell phone). That may be considered a premium service. If it is, then every Evo 4G LTE owner has an "out" on their contract.

Thanks for sharing. I've been looking for a way out of my contact. Sprint service here gets worse by the day. Most times I get about 10kb download on 3G. And that's when my data isn't disconnecting constantly.

If there is a way out of the contract then I'm definitely taking advantage of that and buying a new phone. HTC One or the Galaxy S4. Most likely the S4 since I'm getting sick of HTC. Good lookin' out. Hopefully this will work out.

Good luck to those who saw an increase. I won't find out on mine for a couple more days.

For those talking about the charge on the OG EVO, it wasn't a 4G charge. Ugh. I feel like I'm repeating myself because people don't pay attention and don't care to understand. The $10 charge that Sprint started with the first EVO is a $10 data surcharge for all smartphones because they CAN use more data than a dumb-phone. It has nothing to do with LTE or 4G. It was an excuse Sprint used to increase their data fees while still giving unlimited data.

As for the person mocking me regarding the .36 cent increase and switching to Verizon and paying more. Look, I didn't say you had to switch carriers, it just lets you out of your contract. So cancel and restart under a different name or something, you can get a new phone for the subsidized price. I myself am sick of the crappy service and promise of LTE in my area that never came (was supposed to be second half of last year). Even with my free AirRave, service still sucks.
I too get an employee discount, but I also get a discount with all the other carriers. The ONLY benefit I have with Sprint is the unlimited data. Verizon and AT&T would only cost me $5 more per month with better service, and 4GB of data (we haven't gone over 3GB in the last 4 years).
So, feel free to be an ass and mock me,I don't care. I'm trying to help those who DO want a new phone for $200 instead of $500, or who do want to jump carriers (and get a new phone). To those select few, your welcome and good luck!
I've been following the Slick Deals thread as well as this one also here on XDA. I've already tried calling to see if they know what my personal change will be and, of course, the rep had no idea (she actually didn't even know about the statement on the bill in the first place). My bill comes out on the 10th of each month so I have to wait until then to see the changes and start my full attack.
Just set your Rom to force roam, download a ton, then sprint will cancel it for you. I just put 6gb on mine in roaming fees sprint will have to pay

Square Trade Insurance

They are having a sale for the Galaxy S4.
$99 for a 2-year plan of you can pay $5.99 a month.
http://www.squaretrade.com/samsung-galaxy-warranty
Read the fine print - $99 deductible makes your insurance policy worth a total of $200, or, exactly what you paid for the phone (unless you got it at Walmart or Best Buy with the Phone Freedom)
Yes, I know that you're locked in for another 2 years and all that good stuff, but if you don't have a way of getting another phone on contract at any time, you should start looking in to that instead.... My point is, if you break the phone tomorrow, it will cost you the same price as if you pulled it from an on contract plan, but if you break it two or three months from now, it will be cheaper to get another on contract phone because that price is variable and will certainly drop compared to the Square Trade price that is fixed....
I was a huge fan of ST back in the day, but their prices now are just outrageous! A good case costs a max of what, 60 bucks? Sounds smarter than $99 plus whatever you're planning on getting already to protect the outside of the phone!

Dude, if you break the phone in 2 months it will cost 639 for a new one because presumably you won't have another upgrade to use...

I did read it, and your post seems to assume people just have unlimited upgrades laying around, which is false for the vast majority of us.

I paid full price for mine $639 plus tax..
If you shatter the screen it's $99 to get it fixed with the insurance. Without insurance it's another $639 plus tax..
Sure you can add another line and get a new phone for $200.. Plus the added line of $10 a month, plus the added line smart phone data fee of $20 a month.. Adding another line will cost you $200 plus tax, plus $30 a month for 24 months..
Do the math over 2-years..
I will stick with Square Trade thank you very much..

Then maybe you should look into that instead of wasting money on an intangible, inflated insurance policy! I have a finite amount of upgrades to use too, but at least I can get another phone quickly without having spent $99 for potentially no reason ahead of time....
If you sleep better at night because of this insurance policy, then great - I have guns and hope I never have to use them either, on a similar note, haha

It's not a better suggestion.. It's a ridiculous suggestion IMHO..
Your idea:
$199 for a new line to replace broken phone.. $30 a month ($10 for added line and $20 for cheapest data plan) x 24 month contract = $720 plus the $199 for phone = $920 total cost..
-vs-
Full price phone $640
-vs-
Square trade plan $99 plus $99 deductible = $200
Ya your way is better!
Note that I did NOT say new line.... YOU said new line.... I have upgrades from other accounts to use, but then again, I think you're only reading / comprehending what you want, so I'm done trying to offer help if you're going to be the voice of XDA!

Thanks for not wanting to *help* me understand how doing it your way will cost $920 and doing it the insurance way will cost $200..
Preciate that.. LOL
Also. I have a friend who went through 2 iPhones in a year because of shattered screens..
Doing it your way she would have spent $400 just for upgrades never mind the monthly cost associated with having 2 extra lines. Now we are talking $400 just for contract price phones. Add in the monthly add a line and data fees for 2 phones and for 2-years and your idea / plan is even more asinine..
With Square Trade she spent a total of $300..
Oh well... To each their own..
Heres a couple coupon codes if someone wants to save a few bucks on the plan $91 instead of $99.

gotta admit, I do not understand your method either. Can oyu explain it better? thanks
Re-purchasing the phone using an upgrade on your current plan will cost you no less than the ~$199 (cost of the phone) + $240 ($10 a month for add'l line w/ blocked data * 24 month contract) and you switching phones from that line to your original number. This is well above the cost to get a replacement through SquareTrade.
OR, are you referring to taking another family members' upgrade and therefore simply subsidizing your cost by pushing it into the future?

I think he's assuming the latter. I think he is assuming everyone has dozens of upgrades to use...
coincidentally I do have 2 extra lines with upgrades since I pay for my parents lines and they stick to dumbphones.
Was $91 for me using a coupon off their Facebook page. YMMV.
Squaretrade is loads cheaper than AT&T's $6.99/mo with $199 deductible.
My service with them has always been stellar, even when I call to complain and moan and cancel plans.

Well one thing that the att covers is theft.
Honestly, you get a extended warranty if you purchase your phone with a premium credit card. They will also pay for anything the manufacturer doesn't want to cover. That's 2 years.
Google "credit card fixed sgs3 screen." a guy shares his story.

You are right, ST doesn't cover theft. I didn't consider that.
I've never had a phone stolen (famous last words?) and that's because it is either in my hands or in my front pocket. I do this not only for theft reasons, but also for dropping reasons. Of the 27 smartphones I've owned in the last 3 years, I've only ever dropped one once.
The cost of the phone would be the least of my worries to a phone being stolen, honestly, I don't want some rando having copies of my music, pictures, and notes. Regardless of my having backups.
I will check out credit card coverage options, gotta put my 12 CC's to use somehow.

Here's a story. Just make sure you have a premium credit card. For Visa, they call it a signature visa card, it should say signature above the visa logo.
