Is anyone seeing a lot of visual artifacts with beast mode 3.0? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I've tried all the different frequency settings and many different governor types. I've also installed using both factory reset and by just wiping the cache. I'm using this with nocturnal Rom 3.7. Currently its unusable to me because it's too buggy.

I sure am. Are you overclocking gpu? Seems to happen a lot in chrome
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app

I've tried with and without gpu overclock in addition to with our without CPU overclock. I always see these artifacts, although less often when I turn off gpu overclock. You might be on to something here, because it looks similar to when I would overclock pc graphics cards back in the day. I usually see these every couple of times when I attempt to open folders and when I manipulate the set CPU app.

I noticed some graphics glitches with chrome. Sometimes when I look at my dd-wrt status page it cuts the screen in half. The top half is a zoomed in crosshatch jumbled version of the correct page. The bottom half is a normal version of the page as it should look, but very tiny. I will try to post a screenshot the next time it happens.
Ps. I have gpu overclock and 1.8ghz CPU overclock.

But yeah, the interface on ddwrt is so much more powerful I'd never go back to a stock router.

After you guys mentioned chrome acting up I checked my stock browser and it was jinky too. Back to Chongo's tweaks for now.

Interesting find, since I didn't use chrome I never noticed. However on Holo HD launcher I was getting graphical issues.
Just tested without beast mode and it seems that was the issue.

Also I made a handful of tweaks for users with beast mode but I scrapped them since no matter what governor it booted with it would stick to max cpu freq

It's something to do with our dual core processor. The sensation was the same way with quad scores. And really quad scores are pretty useless.

I installed ROM Manager but it didn't want to do anything because it wants Clockwork Recovery and I have Revolutionary. So I didnt' take any chances.
I just did it again and came up with 1653.
Why doesn't it come up the same? More apps running in the background?
I just killed everything in memory, except for Quadrant and I just got 2030.
Just ran it again and got 2042.
Could it have something to do with cache?
I'm consistently getting 40 frames up the stairs, 60 out in space and 30 watching the DNA. (the graphics test).
Compared to my stock G2 (812 mhz) this is good. Without my CM7, I don't have a clock speeder upper and I haven't broken down and got Set CPU.
Just my $.02

Battery life super drain please help!!!!!

Hi, couple questions:
I recently flashed the newest miui rom with trinity kernel superwiped, wiped dalvik cache fixed permissions even followed instructions on first page about saving battery. im using set cpu 1118 -192 ondemand
1. been through 3 power cycles still only getting hardly 5 hours with heavy usage. i have everything turned off except mobile data. no rogue apps i dont play any games. could this be my radio?
2.i flashed newest firmware without cid (one of these users made one that you could flash without supercid flashed correctly however everytime i restart it stays on htc white screen and i have remove zip and reflash rom. what could this be?
3.ive done tons of research on keeping battery usage at a minimum yet i cant figure out whats eating my battery away. im nearly convinced its the firmware that i havent been able to get to the home screen. yes everyone says "no problem here" can someone help?

Souns like your rom and kernal arent playing well together. Did you use a custom kernel on the one that comes with the rom?
Also, are you ovrclcking the cpu 100% of the time? That happened to me just this morning. Somehow my cpu got set to max and the governor was keeping it at full speed at all times.

i havent changed the kernel, i just left the trinity one that comes with the rom.
as far as the cpu im kinda confused i just set it to 1118 to 192 on setcpu. how do i know if its going at 100% and how would i turn that down? i appreciate your feedback

System Tuner is a free aspp that will show you the load on both cores.
Get that and go to the cpu tab. Watch it for a minute and see it either core is maxing out constantly. It should drop to min if you are you sitting there not doing anything.
The next step is seeing if you have a persistant app that chewing battery

Oh...and if you are maxing out a core constantly, check the governor. (Can be checked right from that CPU screen in System Tuner)
My problem this morning wasn't the kernel or ROM. It was the governor. For some reason the supposedly smart governor was maxing out the CPU constantly. I just switched to conservative as the governor and boom....battery drain when from 10% per hour this morning to 1% per hour the rest of the day.
Nice! Im familiar with system tuner but no one has ever put it like that for me. Thanks a bunch for your help bro i had a feeling those ondemand governors were kinda ify. i was thinking about putting the governor on powersave but it puts both clocks on the bare minimum and i wasnt sure if thats the safest thing to do.

[Poll] Favorite CPU App

I'm curious as to what everyone's favorite app for changing kernel frequencies is. I figured I'd do a poll thread to find out so that I wouldn't have to ask in different threads from time to time. If you want you can also list why in the comments.

I just started using Voltage Control. It seems pretty good. I heard some good things about setCPU and some bad. That's why I started this thread. I wanna know the difference between all of them cuz there's so many lol. Like, I don't know if some are the same app with just different names or if they are made and coded differently to handle things differenly.
I used setcpu before anything similar was integrated into ROMs, I bought it.after a while and haven't used it since. I don't overclock or anything because I don't use my phone for games, mainly media.

I'd say so. But I use to have an aria which was a 600MHz single core. I clocked it up to 806MHz. And that was considered fast 2 years ago!
With a dual core at 1.5GHz, I'd say it's nothing more than a battery drain if you aren't gaming. What I do however, is underclock my hox while the screen is off.

I agree though, that there is rarely a real "need" to overclock unless you feel the rom is slow or you are an avid gamer..
I use SetCPU because it was the first app I came across, but I've stuck with it for the small features. I like being able to set notifications when individual profiles become active (useful for games), and seeing the "Time in State" pie chart lets me know if my CPU is being fussy when idling. Sure, other apps may have more features, but there's literally no reason for me to look for a new one
Rom toolbox pro works fantastic!

Using No-Frills, not a whole lot of features but the most lightweight app I have found for handling OC, I like SetCPU but I would get wakelocks it seemed using profiles, so didn't add much benefit IMO.

[Q] Latency Issues

Does anyone have screen latency issues, and if so, how did you correct them?
I'm on Viper XL 3.2.6, Elemental X 5.2 and have basically reduced all OC/UV settings back to stock. When I go to wake my screen, the lock ring may be off to the side and it takes a second or two to relocate to the bottom of the screen. Then, it may unlock OK but when I go to do anything, there are delays. For example, I'll launch my Touchdown client and the PIN pad doesn't show up for a few seconds. Or I launch Apollo music and it takes a few seconds to show my installed music. Or my BT headset takes a while to connect.
All of this seemed more instant on older versions of this ROM, so I'm just wondering if there were any issues. I thought it was my overclocked GPU settings (3D 512 MHz, 2D 320 MHz), and once I reset those to stock it seemed to get better, but not as good as I think it should be. BTW, I am still getting relatively high scores in Quadrant Standard (in the high 6000s), so I know the thing is running fast.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!
I do not know if this will fix your problem but I was having the same issue. I noticed that when I went into the venom/ kernel folder there were 2 kernel images. I deleted the stock image and kept the elemental. Then ran the installer again and everything is working fine.

Lol don't think that's gonna work. That is for the venom installer I believe. Your kernel will not be there, and you cannot be running two kernels at once. Have you tried full wipe and flash a jb ROM keeping its stock kernel?

Hey,
Did you manage to undervolt the phone, and it is stable?
Could you publish the voltages?
Also, which ROM, Kernel and governor do you use?
Thanks, Nir
I have s4 processor, on 2.15 hboot s off, running viper one s 2.2 and I went down like 75mv at lowest cpu frequency and 50mv across the board and had no problems at all in a month at least.

I'm on the stock (well, modded by me ) ICS 4.0.4 rom, Bricked kernel, intellidemand governor. I managed to undervolt quite well and I can say it's stable at 1,1V @1,5GHz. I could probably go a bit lower but I still don't know because I haven't find a good stress test which I can rely on. At 1,1V I have no random reboots, though.

I just switched to elementalX kernel for the options on first boot. Disabled dtw and enabled s2w enabled lowest cpu idle (192) and 800mv idle undervolting.
So far so good, seems like my phone is not picky at all. I've actually never had it act up on anything so far, knock on wood.
I have it overclocked to max 1.8ghz now too.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
You can probably go lower than 1150mv @1,5GHz. I don't see any major benefit in battery life, though. The most important effect is the cpu temperature, especially now that's summer.
You were right, I went down further to [email protected] and lowered it equally almost across the board. Still no issues.

It seems the only way to safely undervolt is trial and error...
I've now undervolted the lowest frequency (192mhz with my kernel) down to 700mv (the minimum allowed) and will see if it's stable.
So far it's stable. 700mv @ 192MHz!
Same here, no problem so far
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
To cope with the summer, I've set the frequency to 1242MHz (instead of 1500MHz) and downvolted to 900mv! So huge of a downvolt, if you think that 1500Mhz requires 1,1V. :cyclops:
The user inteface is as smooth as before, no lags at all.

I just tried going down to 925mv at 1242mhz, but I still have max cpu at 1.5ghz, tried to lower it somewhat even across the board without going too low but ended up with a freeze/reboot under load so I have to try higher than that.
I can say that mine is stable at 900mV @1242MHz. It's been weeks without a crash, so far. If your sample is a bit unlucky it's likely that it will be stable at 25-50 mV higher than mine, not bad after all.
I did just that and so far no issues. Thanks
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
does anyone actually get any tangible benefits from undervolting? It can't be much more than 2-3 degrees. How much battery percentage is saved on a full charge? how many more minutes do you get?
I can't say at all. My usage is never the same one day to the next and I've been using different ROMs since I started under volting. I will try to check overnight drain with stock vs under volted soon.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I can't say, either. Nothing that's going to change your life, about battery life. About the temperature I haven't tested in a scientific way, but I can say that now it's cool even if the weather is really hot (30-35°).
