How to root MT4GS - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

I need to root my friends mytouch 4g slide tomorrow and I'm not exactly sure which guide I need to use. I have searched and I'm confused. Some forums imply that I can root with gingerbread, some say I must downgrade, and some don't specify. He is on gingerbread, so which guide would I need to use to root his phone? I'm anticipating that I need to make his phone s-off, and I believe I can use HTC for that. Please help me out guys, I'd really appreciate it

You cant s-off via HTC. Thats never been an option, there is a sticky in development that tells how to root any doubleshot, maybe check there? Its my understanding that the sticky threads stay at the top? If not let me know and the whole commnity can link you to the same thread

Yeah that's the one. Check the hboot version though, you might be one of the lucky ones that can run revolution. If not I'm sorry s-off is a bit harder but still possible

No,only the bootloader matters. All the ROMS are Gingerbread

All the factory ROMs are stock. The devs are fully into ICS and we have a JB one well on the way. Your friend will be well served following development here...

[Q] Rooting the Stock 2.3.3 Rom

Hey all,
I just bought an Inspire today and am very satisfied with it so far, but I would love to know if there is any way to root the stock 2.3.3 Rom that came with the phone. I didn't update it myself, it came pre-loaded with Gingerbread. I would like to root because I want to be able to get a Rom running that has Sense 3.0. Sorry if this question has already been asked, but I couldn't seem to find anything while sifting through plenty of threads...lol. Thanks again guys!

The instructions are there, just read and follow them you will be fine. Most questions are answerEd in the thread. Its pretty simple even though it seems overwelming.
I was really skerd when I started, but after doing it was I realized I stressed over nothing.
Good luck with it and enjoy.

Maybe factory restore will do.... That might bring it back to the old version.... I'm assuming he was just getting official OTAs

Just reflash the latest RUU for his handset - you don't need to go back at all
I have been running the ruu through windows and it always gets an error. Is there a different way to flash it?

Connect the phone in fastboot mode and then run it - works fine for me that way

How to brand er3bu's xl iv from desire hd to inspire? Any help?

So I love er3bus's xl Rom for inspire/desire and and I want to brand it as Inspire 4g instead of it saying desire hd at the phone identity setting? Any help? I wasnt sure if inspiremod would take care of this.

I was afraid you would ask that
I know its just a matter of changing desire hd to inspire 4G.
I dont have access to a computer and doing a search from the cell is kinda a pain.
Do a search in the dev section, there are several threads/pages about changing the build prop - mainly they'll talk about editing to get better data speeds. A few will mention how to change the branding.
You can download rom toolbox (which is the only one I remember right now) that has an option to change the build prop.

Not really. Its used on Existz aosp ics rom without problems. I could be wrong and correct me if I am, but all it does is update branding and change GPS over to NA. Its not cm7 only. But I am new to all this so if I'm wrong, than sorry for the bad advice.

[Q] New to Inspire and have a question

Hi, I'm coming from an LG thrill ... and I was just wondering when I'm installing custom roms, am I able to just download them directly from the phone and flash in recovery, or do I need to download them on the pc and manually place in the root of the sdcard to install. I'm sorry if this was already asked but Ive been searching all morning for an answer and can't seem to find one, and I don't really wanna brick my phone in anyway lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks !!!

You can flash desire hd roms as well on the inspire. With some of the roms you may need to flash a seperate fix, but usually they are already incorporated in the rom. They are usually stated in the op.

Most likely because if you miss one step, you can brick your phone. I would suggest looking in the general section and clicking on ruu collection. Please make sure you read it carefully. Instructions are there. If you still are confused, you can go thru the posts. Reading the comments always help

OK just go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37227608 grab the 2.20 ruu for AT&T only. It should say Cingular and ICS. Run that so you can upgrade. Don't download the 3.18 or jb, or else all of this was for nothing.

The ruu tells you step by step what to do. These phones are more tempermental than Samsung stuff. If you rush it and miss a step you will probably end up with a paperweight

I agree that Samsung+Odin makes life easier. But I like the challenge in AT&T (and Motorolas). Whatever floats your boat. Glad you got it rooted. Can you put a [fixed] or [solved] tag in your title? That way people can easily find the answer instead of making a new thread
