Launchers - Galaxy Note 10.1 Themes and Apps

Can you use other launchers on the Note 10.1 or does Samsung's interface prohibit that (don't have mine yet, just curious)?

Yes you can. I am using GoLauncher HD with no loss of functionality.

Thanks. Just found another thread about this in the Q&A section. Guess I will have to wait and see how I feel about the Samsung UI.

I actually thought Touchwiz was pretty good, my only real issue was with folders on the home screen. I organize my apps in folders instead of using multiple home screens. The problem was is that when I launched an app from one of the folders and then got out of the app the system thought I wanted to rename the folder, Got a little annoying.

I am a little confused when there is talk of launchers because some people talk about replacing Touchwiz with a launcher and I use a launcher called CircleLauncher Lite and still use Touchwiz. I use CircleLauncher Lite because it allows me to place icons on my desktop for different links like my Office icon and when I click on the Office icon a ring opens around the icon with icons linked to programs I use that are office related.
So what is the difference in the launcher I use and the launchers that replace Touchwiz?

Sounds like people should be calling the home screen launcher a desktop shell since it changes the user interface, function and look.

I second that. I like it because you can still use the stock one too, switch back and forth.

using NOVA Prime, so far seems good.

Using Apex Launcher Pro and it is butter smooth on my GT-N8000.

I love the idea of Chameleon to switch between a "home" and a "work" profiles, but the all-widget concept does not seduce me. I need icons

Chameleon Launcher
How is the chameleon interface and S-Pen interaction??
And, is it really that cool they "make believe" in commercials and app demos?

There isn't so much use for the S-Pen in chameleon as of now (and i don't think there is any support for it, but that's only a guess for now).
I wouldn't say that it is cool yet, but it reeks of potential.

I followed tsf since before release and it looks alot better now. Chameleon looks nice too. But i just feel launcher developers are charging too much. I mean 10 and 16 bucks ya right . Launchers should have free versions and a pro for like 5 bucks tops...
Currently im using tw launcher and own apex pro but havent felt the need to change yet

I loved touchwiz, but trying nova and apex since last night. Both seem good, I can't decide which one I like better. Touchwiz is great if you don't care to customize the looks imo.
most of the comparisons I've seen apex vs nova is apex has all the stuff for free that nova has in prime (the paid version). I use nova myself as I purhcased it when it was on sale for 0.25 cents and haven't gone back. I used to use go launcher on my droid eris back in the day and my wife uses it on her droid charge (can't wait till her upgrade...hate that phone). My personal experience is while go launcher is nice..it seems to be more geared for older phones. Another launcher you may want to try as I hear its been upgraded is adw. All the launchers will be rather similar with small differences (unless you shell out 15 bucks for the 3d one that I can't remember the name of).
Nova all the way.
On my previous phone I tried and liked all of the big three ICS/JB variants... Holo, Apex, and Nova. I used Holo the most because I got the paid version on sale. But since using the GS3 I've loved how the latest Touchwiz looks and feels. I like the way it looks, it's smooth, I get folders, app drawer folders, hidden apps, etc. And I love the calendar widget on Touchwiz.
The only thing I missed is gestures. I used to have two finger swipes setup to launch specific shortcuts/apps when I used Holo Launcher.
If I ever get sick of Touchwiz I'll definitely move on to Holo or Nova.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
I really like Nova. For me it seems to be a little smoother than Apex. I'm using the paid version and think it is worth the cost.
Nova, Nova, Nova and Nova.
Did I forget to mention? Nova.

If money is of no issue then TSF. Just offers way more customization but it's pricey.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Nova for me. Apex and nova are what I narrowed down to a couple months back, both are very good, very smooth and very similar. Differences I remember when investigating were apex having separate up and down swipe options on dock icons (very cool) and nova having folders in the app menu. Everything else seemed comparable.
But, with the number of apps I have installed... folders in the app menu won out so I use nova.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Best launcher to have is one that includes all the options you need to achieve the look and feel you want For me it is Nova.
I use Apex, but I have to admit after watching this Ubuntu Theme video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgxzbvuHwi0 I might be getting TSF. Looks cool.

Agreed tsf launcher is number one in my list, only downfall is there is no auto landscape. Next i would say sbp shell fully customizable as well. Then i would say nova prime, tied is holo, adw, nova, go launcher, touchwiz. If you have any extra loot try the tsf.

[Q] Launcher question

I'm on the lookout for a new launcher, maybe.
I'd really like one that shows notification badges (not sure if Xperia does) for all apps (especially K9). Apex only shows notifications for Gmail accounts, and even then I can't seem to get them working recently.
I know that the Tesla Unread plugin shows the notifications on Widget Locker, but does it also work with Nova?
I'm not interested in going back to Go Launcher at all, and I'm not looking at the launchers that are $15.
The ability to customize icons would be nice, but won't affect my decision if something better is out there.
Help me out. I've not used any launchers except Go and Apex for quite some time, so I'm not even sure what's out there and good.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I'm on Nova using Tesla unread notification. I can confirm that it works on Gmail, Samsung emails, messenger, gTalk & goSMS.
I used goLauncher before but it lagged on Embryo 6.1 rom. Was lucky to purchase Nova during Play Store 25¢ sale.

My vote is for nova. Great customization options, you have the option of beta version or stable, and yes, k9 mail is available for the count badges.
Pretty sure that sealed the deal for me, thanks!
One off-topic question, though...

I confirm Tesla unread notification with Nova (prime) works perfectly with K-9.
Have fun and enjoy.
I use the Xperia Z Launcher, and I love it. It is pretty amazing, except that when at the home screen, pressing the menu button doesn't let you go to settings. You have to find it in your apps.
That is one little annoyance, but other than that it is a great and customizable launcher.

Insane launcher

I've recently been having lag issues with nova, so I decided to hunt for a new launcher. After trying a few, I discovered next launcher 3d. My mind is blown. I've never ever seen a launcher with so much freedom and so many options. I.e. You could place your home screen icons ANYWHERE if you wish... No grid alignment.
Yeah that could look messy, but it reminds me of the freedom in Windows to put icons wherever you want. Of course there's an option to align to the grid also. Also widgets can be sized to literally any odd size, No adhering to grids. Then there's 3d mode - it transforms the phone into an entirely different monster. It's crazy. There are too many other options to list.
Icing on the cake? Zero lag no matter what transition I pick, even 3d transitions. I'm in love.
Icing is the price

I have no issues with nova, all animatios disabled , and it is still the fastest launcher for the note 3
I have tested the OP launcher extensively and its just a memory hog that uses huge animations sequences to mimick great responsiveness and lag free interface like an IPHONE does.
To me the time I spend watching icons dancing arround and homescreens panes traveling arround in a 3d universe , until they are of some use to me , that is lag.

Just because one app is weird doesn't make them bad developers. Could be bad management etc.
Plus, if I recall correctly, the Go team acquired Next launcher, because it used to be SPS Shell or something like that. (Note, the price stayed the same, just a rebrand).
But I guess it comes to personal preference, if you want to see nice effects that don't even lag when they are 3D, vs an uber fast launcher like Nova/Apex

I found Next to be far too messy when I tried it. (Yes, 'tried'. It's €13,00 and my prepaid credit card does not do refunds.)
Oh yes, the 3D is very flashy, and the nifty little tricks with wallpapers is fun, but it's rather sluggish as a result. Not as snappy as Apex/Nova.
I've been using Apex Launcher Pro since day one. Not a single problem. Nova is known to have issues on the Note 3.

The only issue I had with nova is it would stutter slightly when swiping between home screens... maybe every 4 swipes I would notice it. I actually like to see the animations, so I prefer to keep the animations speed setting on "relaxed".
On the lightning fast animation speed of course there's no noticeable lag, but IMO on that setting it makes the ui feel older and too basic.

Nothing in that respect, just some Touchwiz Widgets are no longer accessible, like the big calendar one. But that's typical with every manufacturer, some stock launcher widgets can't be used on other launchers.
S-pen works fine on Nova.
Edit: BTW, with Nova (Prime?), you can make the status bar transparent on the homescreen.

I "tried" next launcher but I found it too busy. The 3D was amazing but I simply just want to switch to another page I don't need some crazy fx. I also wanted to support the developer after I found a launcher I liked but I couldn't justify $17 for Next. I am happy with nova and haven't had any lag yet.
edit: can someone link me to the nova lag problems or explain what lags ?
I like aviate launcher.

Non-sense launchers

Just curious to who is using a different launcher than sense. I have been thinking about switching but I like blinkfeed a lot. Has anyone noticed battery drain while using a launcher like Nova and having a setup for a shortcut to blinkfeed?
I only use Nova. So much better than any other home app.

I tried Total based on this, and it is pretty amazing. Definitely might be the most customizable I've used, up there with Lightning or something. If anything that's the fault, it's overwhelming. It makes sense though it's well thought out, just daunting.
