Mobile network Unreachable. - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I wanted too use CM9 port on my GT5801. I Wipe Data, i flash it.
After that my phone doesn't be able to connect on the mobile network.
I search in the efs file and i see it empty. I replace it by the backup i have made but nothing.
I tried too return too kyrillos 9.0 rom but it's the samething. I remade a restore of the efs and now the PIN code is ask a the boot. But the network is steel unreachable.
Any idea ?
PS: I have tried my sim card on an other phone and the mobile network is reachable.

Try flashing another rom like cm7 or stock
Sent from my GT-I5800 using xda premium

You need to flash a modem.bin file our something like that. Download the stock ROM for your region, europe, india etc. then delete everything in the ROM except the modem file using total commander which is a computer program. Then flash the .tar file in odin like normal. Download the stock firmware from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22532034. Also, you can just flash the ROM straight away but that would take you to the stock ROM. If you want to stay on CM9/Kyrillos ROM then flash the modem file only.
Press thanks if I helped!

I have find the solution last nigth.
My idea : Android was used the file wen i tried too remplace them.
So I shutdown the phone, remove the sim card and power it on.
I remove all /efs file (Hiden included) and i restore my backup.
I put the sim card and reboot the phone.
AND it's work.

[I9003][Help] Unknown Phone

Hey guys! After flashing to xxkpe, the phone and csc both showed "unknown". After repeated flashes the csc problem was fixed but even after flashing 5 times the phone still showed unknown and it wont recognize the sim card. any suggestions???
what did you flash? more details please...
Oh sorry i forgot to add i flashed XXKPE!!!
Is your IMEI visible
No IT IS NOT. I flashed back to xxkp9 and same problem!
Open phone and dial *#06#
If it doesn't show the imei number and you don't have the back up, your only option is samsung service center
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
1. Try flashing XXKPE twice. Use the latona file before the first flash only. Then factory reset after flashing the firmware for the first time. You probably placed the files wrong.
2. You can always try to use someone's nandroid backup of CWM and restore on your phone and test and check.
3. Service center.

Backup IMEI
Basically the method is almost alike. Just flashing it is an issue that I don't know how.
I think you post in wrong forum
I just used Root Explorer and copied my "/efs" folder to my external SD card (i.e copy "/efs" folder as a whole to "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/backup").
But it sounds like you hadn't done this backup before you flashed. I think the only option is to go to the service centre and have them recover it for you. Before you go, take a Nandroid backup using CWM and a backup using TitaniumBackup. Make sure all the backups from Titanium go to the external SD card.
Also it is probably best to flash back to your original firmware (or something close from here) before giving it to them, and try to act innocent (---> "What's a firmware!?! I flashed who?!?!")
BTW @ Misledz: Here is the original post. Also contains a compressed efs attachment. Do you think it would be too complex to modify that and flash it (find the IMEI from the box and manually input)?
Cherio!
Can anyone please upload a copy of the efs folder?

Recover your IMEI without a backup!

I can't really take credit for this, but I just restored my IMEI without a backup of the efs folder. Keep in mind that I actually deleted my efs folder by accident, so I didn't even have the original efs folder.

FYI, this method will restore your phone to stock Gingerbread.
Here is what you do:
1.)
A) Download and unzip the Gingerbread unbrick package here from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27286083#post27286083):
w/ root - http://d-h.st/ewu
w/o root - http://d-h.st/G6g
B)
Download and unzip the efs zip here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1152914&d=1340558510
2.) Place phone in download mode.
3.) If needed, install latest Samsung USB drivers by installing Samsung Kies from HERE.
4.) Open the included Odin exe.
5.) If phone is detected, the window under ID:COM will turn yellow.
6.) Click on "PIT" to browse to and select infuse_gb.pit. Make sure that Re-Partition is selected.
7.) Click on "PDA" to browse to and select PDA_UCLB3.tar.md5.
8.) Click on "PHONE" to browse to and select PHONE_UCLB3.tar.md5.
9.) Click on "CSC" to browse to the efs.tar
10.) Click the Phone EFS Clear checkbox
11.) Click on "Start", and allow Odin to flash the phone. Do not unplug or power off the phone until Odin is finished.
12.) When the Odin dialogue reads "PASS!", the phone should reboot into the stock UCLB3 Setup Wizard. For me this step just proceeded to install an update and the reboot the phone.
Once the phone reboots, if your SIM card is installed you should be good to go, otherwise you will get an alert about your SIM card which means you need to power off and pop in the SIM card.
Thanks to the original thread author for this one.
It works perfect for me even without the .nv_data file. Before this i only get simbols instead the imei number. You save my phone!
recovered IMEI by just flashing the CM10 base
I dunno if it's just me or what. I lost my IMEI on Slim Bean.. so I had this thought. I hadn't had this issue with the CM10 rom, so I decided to do the standard flashing procedure. Once CM10 was installed my IMEI came back. I had full signal and all is good. I decided to go back to Slim Bean to see if it would fix the IMEI issue. I flashed it just like the OP stated and walah! I had my IMEI back and everything worked without having to go back to GB, ICS and then JB again. I don't know if this will help anyone, but just wanted to note other people about it. Why did this work for me?
will this mess up my phone more?
I am running froyo 2.2.1 ,I guess it is stock, as I pick this phone up in pawn shop, and it was already rooted. I was doing the command line argument dd and a bunch of stuff, to get some file to get my unlock code. I didn't get no bak file copy, gave up put my sim card back in and that's when I noticed my imei was gone, then I had go launcher installed, so my screen goes blank I end up having to do the three finger data wipe, then I see I got no wifi either. Then I get this phone, DL some apk files, try to reinstall busy box, no go, teller me it don't think it has su permission after I gave it through that super user program, then it say it cant install into /dev/sh/ what ever, so all I got is a really nice looking video player.
So now that I got all that out of me.
2 questions, will flashing gingerbread overtop of froyo, will not make it worse?
Why do one have to flash in the first place, why can't one just copy over the old-time files, or someone find which file goods the imei number then just to in isinglass a file manager open that file, as it should be just what is caller a flat file, meaning no special formating like a Word file.
Then just save it. I am not an expert at android wse (whatsoever) but I have played with copying over top of files, or deleting the old-time one then replacing it with a new one. Why Doesn't that work, has anyone player around just opening there files to see what they look like and figure out where they stick the imei number?
Seems to me should be an easy manner of doing, but now that I don't have an individual showing I am not even sure which file I should try to type that number in to to see what will happen as I don't want to make this phone completely useless.
Any commentary, ideas, anything?
Thanks

Thanks on this. I had a backup of my EFS folder, but the tool I used to create it made a .img file and once I got it into JB, the tool didnt work. UGH.
Just want to say thank you for posting this. I have a friend who had her Infuse stop getting calls, texts, etc. Turns out her IMEI was all question marks and other invalid characters. ATT wouldn't help her at all and either did a full reset.
thank you, this method really works!! finally my imei is back...no more symbols, now is time for a efs back up

It happened for me twice on two separate phones when using MIUI. Basically the ROM managed to corrupt the system partition, specifically the efs folder.
I don't know the specifics of why, but it happens to a lot of people. That's why I always now make sure I have a backup of the efs just in case.

Now one silly question:- I unzipped the efs file attached and it says "efs.rfs" but your instructions above says "efs.tar" needs to be selected under CSC option. Am I missing something?

Strange things are happening to me.
About 2 weeks back this problem started and today when I reconnected the SIM and restarted the phone everything was back to normal. Phone is picking up signal/3G etc.
Surprised is the word. Leads me to believe some app must be responsible for all of this.
Thanks,

Custom ROM for THL W1+

I hope I've posted this in the correct place. Apologies if not... I'm sure a moderator will move to correct place.
Hi everyone,
I’d like to share my THL W1+ custom ROM with you all.
It is based on a CJ ROM which I believe is the international ROM version.
Natively, the CJ ROM had some benefits over the stock standard Chinese THL ROM such as not showing Chinese cities in call log etc.
I cant remember all of the tweaks I've made in this custom ROM as it was "cooked" over an extended period of time but here are a few…
Google Apps working and upgraded
Default IME keyboard upgraded
Removed Chinese Apps and input methods
Removed factory reset option from settings to prevent reboot loop (use custom recovery to reset)
Improved screen brightness
updater-script changes for Wi-Fi fix
Included Facebook, Skype and Flash in DATA partition (can be uninstalled)
build.prop changes: font size, English language is default, time zone default to Pacific/Auckland
Download and use at your own risk. No responsibility is taken for damage done to your phone through using this ROM.
I’ve included in this download package everything I can think of that you'll need including the CJ ROM, a version of SP Flash Tool, the update.zip file, zip files to root and unroot the phone plus ADB and VCOM drivers.
The all-inclusive package can be downloaded from here…
http://www.mediafire.com/?p08zo4jwypz23
It is split into four compressed files. Use software such as 7zip to uncompress.
#1 First, flash your phone via SP Flash Tools with the stock CJ ROM. I’ve added a custom recovery to the ROM which you will require later to install the update.zip file.
If you do not know how to flash your phone here is a great tutorial... http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.co.nz/2012/05/mt6575-flashing-tutorial.html
#2 Once you have successfully flashed the CJ ROM you need to install the update.
Copy the update.zip file to your microSD card or power on the phone and copy to internal storage.
Remove your battery and reinsert it.
Hold down the Vol+ button and power on. You should boot into recovery mode.
Now using your volume keys you can select the update from zip option (power button is select). Choose the update.zip file you copied to your phone and confirm.
Wait for the update to complete and then reboot.
That should be it!
Hope you enjoy this ROM.
Invalid imei
I install your rom and is perfect. i manage to unbrick my W1+ with this rom. only the imei is invalid and i cant restore them. i see a folder named imei drivers (something like that ) in your pachage. how i can use them to restore the imei. i tried meny tutorials from the net but still nothing
thanks for your time

Hello, it is good to hear people are using the ROM.
I think the folder you are referring to is one inside the DRIVERS folder and simply contains CDC driver files.
I've not had any IMEI issues on the W1+ so can't speak from experience but I would suggest trying the following...
ROOT the phone using the root update.zip in the package.
Download MTK Droid Tool... http://www.mediafire.com/download/a41a0u73dc7rw2h/MtkDroidTools_v248.zip
MTK Droid Tool has a Write IMEI function.
Once your phone is rooted make sure USB debugging is turned on (Settings > Developer options).
Failing that, another option would be to download Mobile Uncle Tools from Google Play. Again, this requires root privileges and you'll need to connect to a Wifi network as your SIM's are not working. I understand this app also has IMEI tools.
Hopefully this works for you.

[Q] I9023 - Need Help - Generic IMEI =(

Hi there,
Something very strange has appears to my Nexus S.
It's been more than one year that my phone works perfectly with ICS 4.04 flashed by recovery and ROM stock, I've never reflashed my phone since this day.
Then two days ago, no more GSM network, can't pass any call or text, but data in WCDMA works perfectly.
I've tried :
- Factory reset
- Cyanogen Mod last ROM
- Tried my SIM card on the Nexus S of a friend --> works perfectly
- Tried my friend SIM card on my phone --> same issues, no GSM but data works in WCDMA
I've search a lot on google and XDA, and I've discovered what was IMEI and /efs.
But it's too late for me, my IMEI is the cursed generic IMEI, not the one written behind my battery.
I've tried to flash with stock ROM Stock Android 2.3.6 (GRK39F) with Odin because I've read that it could retrieve my original IMEI. There was no .md5 file inside so I can't flash it with Odin, else I've flash it with ADB / Fastboot.
Phone start and GSM mobile works !
But I got generic IMEI yet, and data is stuck on edge, no WCDMA.
I was thinking it was caused by the old ROM radio flashed with ROM Stock Android 2.3.6 (GRK39F).
So I've flash using recovery the latest Cyanogen and ROM radio KB3 (which was working great in WCDMA for me before all this mess).
No change, GSM works, but data network is stuck in Edge, even if I force WCDMA in *#*#4636#*#* menu, it keep staying in edge.
I don't understand all of this, but I think this is again link to this generic IMEI.
My /efs folder is not empty, I have nv_data.bin but file is dated from yesterday and I can't find any backup like ".nv_data.bin" or "nv_data.bin.bak".
This story seems to be classic in XDA forum, but it's really difficult for me to find a solution, especially for a Nexus S.
This phone is pretty old, you guys are experienced with it and I really need your help, I like this phone and I don't want to change it =(
Is there any way to regenerate my original IMEI ?
Maybe I'll try a flash with Odin and 2.3.4 GRJ22, I never tried Odin, but it seems sometimes to solve the problem. Do you think it could work ?
I really need your help guys, I'm so sad : /
Thanks for reading this, and thanks again if your reply.
hey man,
sorry to hear that...
have you tried to use your sim on another phone? the phone is 2 years old and possibly the problem is from the simcard\network.
another option is to check weather your APN's are as supposed to be.
you can check online or via customer service.

Still nothing,.. Sorry you haven't got this resolved yet.. Hopefully some fresh eyes here can make short work of it..
Thanks for your reply guys.
I've tried the sim in another phone and it works great, the real problem is generic IMEI I guess.
Thanks for your help and your link in PM Setting Out, I think I'll try the second one.... the first can't work with me because my /esf and /data/radio does not have an old backup of nv_data.bin.
I have two questions please :
- How the holy s*** this thing can happen randomly after ONE YEAR of fully founctional phone ? (not a single flash since one year)
- How can it be so ramdom ? I mean, before rom stock flash, GSM does not work but I was having Data (WCDMA). Now, After rom stock flash, GSM is working but Data is stuck in Edge. I can't understand how IMEI can impact such randomly issues.
Well, as you know the IMEI is sent to your operator as long as you have signal.
if the operator doesn't get a valid one problems may occur.
In order to find out if this really is a EFS problem go into /data/radio/log and cat the nv.log, find a line like this:
MD5 fail. orignal md5 '84373eddf2a1617f795b1c1af650f8a784373eddf2a1617f795b1c1af650f8a7' computed md5
'3eddf2a1617f795b1c1af650f8a7' (rild)
put the phone in airplane mode then use a unix text editor and manualy edit nv_data.bin.m5d and make sure the string of numbers is equal to the string after "computed md5" (in this case 3eddf2a1617f795b1c1af650f8a7) save the file take the phone out of airplane mode then reboot check the IMEI with the *#06#
Thanks a lot for your reply.
I have /data/radio/log/nv.log file.
But I have no checksum in this file, only text like "/data/radio/nv_data.bin does not exist."
This is strange because /data/radio/nv_data.bin file exist.
But in /efs folder, I have a nv.log file too, and in this file I have some checksum.
Any way to do something with this one ?
EDIT : I've tried the manipulation with /efs folder, it does not change my generic IMEI =(
Sure, I verified permissions and owner of file.

Here are some detailed steps
Ensure you have one good copy of nv_data.bin somewhere on the phone. it could be located in either /efs or /data/radio
Ensure you have a nv.log with at least one line that looks somewhat like this:
MD5 fail. orignal md5 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' computed md5 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' (rild)
where the X's are a bunch of number and letters.
Copy the good nv_data.bin, nv_data.bin.md5 and nv.log to both the sdcard and then via usb put them on your hard drive in a folder called efsbackup
(use either rootexpoler or adb shell to copy the files to the sdcard first)
Open the nv.log and look for the second sting of lines. after the words computed md5 (the first string is the md5 the phone found and the second string is the md5 it was expecting for. if the md5 it was expecting can't be found, it uses the default IMEI 004999010640000
Open nv_data.bin.m5d with a proper unix text editor (I suggest Notepad++ or jedit) and remove the sting of numbers and letters and replace it with the string from the nv.log (the second string after computed md5) and save the file
Go back to the phone and put the phone into Airplane Mode (this turns off the radio)
Copy the files nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.m5d back to the sdcard overwirting them
Using either rootexplorer or adb shell copy the nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 back to the original folder (either /efs or /data/radio (for me it was /data/radio that did the trick))
Using either rootexplorer or adb shell ensure both files have the following attributes Owner:radio Group:radio Owner:RWX Group:R Other:R
Using adb shell type ps (this lists all the running processes) find the one that end with rild and remember the pid
Using adb shell type kill pid# where pid# is the rild process (this restarts the radio)
Go back to the phone and take the phone out of Airplane mode
Reboot the phone
Open up the dialer and dial *#06# (the universal way to get your IMEI it SHOULD be equal to the one written under the battery)
Thanks for the reply, but it can't work.

I have no good copy of nv_data.bin, date shows that all have been generated last week.
So, I'd like to flash the phone with Odin rom stock 2.3.4 AND re-partition with the .pit file.
I've already flash it without the .pit, but my IMEI is still generic, I need the .pit file.
But the .pit file is nowhere, even on samfirmware : /
If somebody got this file, plz send it to me.

-I too have looked high and low for the Odin file since the Nexus S can be put in download mode holding the volume button while pluging in the micro USB. I did find some odin files but any one who tired them ened up perm bricking their phone.
-If you have a good backup it should restore the EFS partition as well as the RADIO.
-The only other way that I know of, I am afraid is to get the phone JTAGed by Samsung.
Good Luck
After two weeks of trying everything, I gave up and used a Z3X.
Now my IMEI is restored, and backup on my PC, my laptop, my sdcard and on cloud...
Thanks all for trying to help me.

Urgent help require for recovering data

Hi there,
Its been a long time using the Note 3 since 2013. It had many issue but still carried on. But few days back when weak up in the morning saw the phone was off, though it was in charge full night. When turned it on it stuck in the Samsung glowing logo and nothing after that, it keep showing the same logo until it power is gone. Don’t know what happened that night, it was installing an update by itself or not.
Then google it and no steps helps, used odin and reflash with latest firmware from sammobile but that too didn’t help. I’ve lots of data in internal storage including sms and contacts and pictures. I’ve no issue to throwing off the phone but I cant lost all data in it, it will be a huge loss as just became a father and lots of pics on my new born baby, so you can understand the value.
Can anyone suggest how can I recover the data? Check the attachment for its current state. Thanks in advance.

When you tried the official update from sammobile, did you add a PIT file in addition to the stock ROM?

This is a bit long. I copied the explanation of PIT online.
PIT stands for Partition Information Table (PIT) and as the name suggests these are files which contain partition tables for your Samsung Galaxy Android phones. The PIT file contains all the relevant information for each required partition such as Partition Name, Block Size, Block Count, and other technical information. Every device has different PIT file associated with its stock firmware. Hence a correct PIT file is needed in order to properly flash the stock firmware on your device. Also, if there are two models of a device, say 32 GB and 64 GB, then both will have a different PIT file and you cannot use the PIT of the former with the later or vice-versa.
What does the PIT file do?
ROM (Read Only Memory) is similar to a hard disk on a PC where the information is kept permanently unless changed by the user. PIT file will re-partition the ROM of your device...

So what's your phone's model number? Is it SM-N900? And does it have 32GB internal storage?

Ok thanks, yes its SM-N900 32GB internal storage. All I want to fix it without formatting the internal storage. I even dont know after flashing it will clear then internal memory and reset or not. Even if I need the PIT file, then where can I get the stock PIT file? Thanks

If you want to cpy Data from your internal storage try tihis way
1 install official TWRP recovery
2 Reboot into recovery
3 connect your mobile to Pc annd then you can copy data from your internal storage
Hope it help you ?
you can try this method.
1.Root your phone and install twrp recovery.
2.mound and SDCard and reboot into recovery and from file manager in recovery copy all data from internal storage to SDCard by doing this your data will be safe .after that try to flash anr other rom like Resurrection Remix Or lineage to repair your phone.
Hi, if you flashed (completely) an update not compatible you lost your data, your contacts it`s recommendable to synchronise with Google if worst happen, if your data didn`t go away you can try to recover like others users recommended, first root device with this file https://download.chainfire.eu/353/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900.zip, install official TWRP from Google Play and download from it correct version, go to recovery from same app and transfer to pc all that you can.
Sometime ago I tried to flash a rom with odin and result was the same, and issue was just for flashing without connection to internet, maybe help

Well, we need to make things clear to try to solve this;
Assuming that you;
- Flashed correct firmware and for some reason process interrupt or apparently reached the end but device don´t boot (bad flashing)
- You took a backup from CWM nor TWRP (then you have a backup of system, data, boot, maybe recovery and probably cache. Then you can try the next:
- Put your backup ever in sdcard
- Flash some custom rom based on stock (zip format) with CWM (maybe necessary to do wipes to boot but probably you lost your data from device flashing before, but you have it in your backup)
- Now select an advanced restore, just restore data (if same native app of mms and notes are installed they took data again), reboot now and look, probably will be necessary restore also cache but let it just if needed)
- If for some reason don´t boot probably your partitions are corrupted but you can try first this. I hope help you and tell us how you go

How do I know my phone is rooted? if I rood can I overwrite these data from the backup files? I installed two file manager but cant access the root. Please let me know. Thanks

If device don`t power on you need first of all flash correct firmware to repair partitions, you need to go step by step.
- Flash by odin, good level battery charged, access to internet, depending capacity of your pc don´t use many resources meanwhile flashing, if sucess reboot device completely now power off, put it in download mode
- Now, step 2 you need to root with this file, download it https://download.chainfire.eu/353/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900.zip extract from zip and you have this file in .tar.md5, open odin, go to AP box, search file and flash it (download mode), this file will root device and will install TWRP (is needed to inject some scripts from supersu)
- how your backup is in CWM you need to go now to TWRP and flash CWM.img file via recovery.
- reboot in CWM and select advanced option to restore, just restore DATA, not other partitions, this overwrite your data app for your data backup, and without doing wipes try to boot. maybe system be unstable but you need now just recover some data, when you do that recommend a flash a custom rom or at least keeping root to take a backup with titanium periodically
Hi All, So with the rooted device I've managed to restore all data except call log, which I can ignore. But now the issue is, the system showing the software is not official and not supporting software upgrade and showing the system is custom. Now what to do, where can I get the exact firmware? thanks
sammobile or updato dot com or just search .
