[Q] Froyo update+root - Samsung Infuse 4G

I've got this AT&T Infuse from a friend of mine that's running Froyo [2.2.1], is THIS guide still applicable for the device? Or should I upgrade to Gingerbread first then use that guide?

Thanks! Worked like a charm! Now that it's got CWM, or at least supposed to, would it be wise to jump to one of the JB ROMs? Or should I go to an ICS based one first?
EDIT:
Actually, I just went to the Unofficial CM10. It got caught in a boot-loop, but I was able to just reboot and it went to CWM and is running JB. It does do this thing though, where (on boot) it appears to have corrupted video after the Samsung logo [only for a second, maybe less] and then it boots and functions normally.

Did you flash ics before flashing jb?
You can't jump directly from GB to JB.
Sent from my sweet & buttery Infuse

I did not. I jumped straight to Jelly Bean from Gingerbread. It appears to be functioning fine though.
As a side note: It is my friends phone so I don't have ready access to it 24/7.

Hey to fix the corrupt video effect you see you will have to flash the gb boot loaders since froyo doesn't support the new cwms

Captivates don't have any sd card issues, just the bell vibrant. Rogers did say in the first half of 2011 you'll get the update, were just 4 days in though so keep waiting.

The problems were with their ****ty Kies app. I built Assonance on top of that firmware and not a single person had an SD-card blowup in the thread.
Will it be made into an Odin when it comes out?

Can we flash it back to stock ROM though? I remember there was talk here about the stock ROM and how we can't flash it back to stock or something, but that was a couple months ago... and I've started to lose track of things here.
Edit: Hmm... Looks like I found a thread on how to get back to the Rogers ROM.

They also said Froyo was to be released in mid-December of 2010. Phone release was also massively delayed.

i believe it was infact the kernel that caused the issues, did you build the kernel from bell sources?
DG pulled perception 9 which was not even i9000m based but i think the kernel he built was. perception 9 was rereleased as 9.5 with a different kernel. there were users on that thread reporting sd card problems but very few, still risky. that said the telus rom didnt cause any problems and neither did the i9000 international so i think the captivate is safe. as the software is ready you guys might even beat att to the punch this time! if you get hsupa enabled this time ill definitely flash a rogers rom.
Ignore this message because of a double posting.

I was able to get mine to stock Rogers ROM but I dont know if its able to get EXACTLY like how rogers has. Mine looks like the rogers one but I think it was made off the AT&T one because it has their logo on the bootup and its not JF6 (mine says JI2 unless thats how it is on a stock Rogers I didnt check before I did flashing), I was able to get rid of the AT&T logo but that still bugs me unless someone can confirm this for me.
Yeah. You can get the Rogers stock files somewhere on the forums and just flash it all using Heimdall. Thats what I did after Odin bricked my phone twice ;D. Also, no Froyo yet. Don't expect it any time soon - this IS Rogers we're dealing with.

It isn't Kies that was the issue. This was happening to people well before the 2.2 update and at random times. My girlfriend's Vibrant has gone twice now. Once just randomly force closing everything and then dying while on 2.1, the second one which came from Samsung with 2.2 on it also did the same thing. She is now waiting for phone #3. Hardware has to be a factor.
speaking of which.. rogers/samsung has started pushing froyo 2.2 lol.. finally.. you'll need a kies update http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as

[Q] Help!

hey guys i just recently bought and unlocked my skyrocket...the phone has been working great for a couple weeks now the battery randomly shuts off and i get a black screen with a vibrate when trying to boot phone up. I installed the Juggernaut ROM onto this phone and it works like a charm. I even bought a new battery and it worked for a day and now back to square 1. I even tried my battery from SGS 4G and that started the phone. What exactly is wrong? Rom or battery?

Odin back to stock and use it for a few days then try flashing Sky Jelly Bean. I've had no issues with Sean's JB!
Why are you using a really old t989 Rom?

Are the battery contacts all dirty, bent, or something look wrong with them?
Restoring to stock makes no change meaning that the problem is with the phone itself or something. Maybe you had messed it up by doing something wrong while flashing or... ))
I think what better for you is that you should contact your carrier and have them replace your phone. This will not be a problem as you've just got it.
Just tell them exactly what happens to the phone, but don't tell them that the phone used to be rooted.
When you got your replacement, pm me inbox, I'm gonna show you how to install CMW, and then go straight ahead to Jelly Bean which is the ROM I'm running right now. Since you said your phone was unlocked, I think even if you use your stock ROM, you still are able to use T-Mobile SIM card or any others. ( But I was told by an ATT agent that the phone needed to be used at least 3 months or something in order to get the code to unlock it)
The reason I'm using custom ROMs is that I can do a wifi tether whenever I want, and be able to run the most recent Android version as soon as it is released.

[Q] 4.1.1 OTA trying to install, should I or shouldnt I

Hey everyone.....noob here...currently phone is ICS 4.0.4, rooted, unlocked, TB installed, CWM recovery installed, ohh and ota rootkeeper is installed as well, even though ive heard it doesnt work on our SGIII...did the debugfs route to do it as im not a brainiac....wish i was......everything else stock... Chicago area verizon OTA 4.1.1 is now popping up after every restart to update....i'm torn...whats to gain from JB update?...i know its goin to break my root....and if i let it update, what are the steps i need to take to let it OTA and what are my options as of today to rerroot and everything else ive done? Thanks xda....because of everyone here....i was able to get even this far.
Why not just flash one of the many jellybean ROMs that are posted on XDA? You'll keep the unlocked boot loader and root.

thats 1 option i never thought of, i'll have to see if there is one where everything works and theres no problems with the install as long as i follow step by step...thanks
There are many that work. Just go to Verizon s3 android development and take your pick. You could stay stock or look at others with new features. Synergy and galaxymod both have multi window working. Beans 8 Is touch wiz based but has aosp features and looks. Clean rom is very stable and is basically stock with some performance enhancements.

As I was walking out of Verizon with my new GS3 last week it started to update. I found a good guide in the development section that let me root JB and unlock the bootloader. I was reading about it and while watching the video I just followed along. Painless and quick so I'm rooted and have my titanium back. I just moved over from a rooted original Droid.

yes you can. Just follow instructions. FYI it's a multi-step process.
You will need to get gingerbread and gingerbread bootloaders first. The easiest way is to use Odin and wipe the phone to install gingerbread with root and CWM. Several ways to do this though.
Then you need to flash CM9 or some kind of ICS.
Then you can flash any Jelly bean rom from there.
You can not flash directly from 2.1 to 4.2 unfortunately.
Odin will work fine, but many of the Odin flashables do not contain GB bootloaders. Here is a helpful thread of Heimdall one clicks that do contain GB bootloaders. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081

[Q] ICS to Jellybean

Im trying to update my TF300T to a jellybean rom and im a bit confused. im currently an AOSP ICS rom from when i first rooted this tablet but since i havent messed with it since them im a bit lost. i updated TWRP to the latest ics one and i tried installing Paranoid android and it just bootlooped. Luckily i backuped my rom. So can anyone point me in the right direction please? any help would be appreciated
First of all, since you're apparently both unlocked and still on the ICS bootloader, take some time to go through the NVFlash process here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1894867
That will come in handy if you accidentally flash the wrong recovery later on (or do anything else that could brick your tablet). I'm sure you've seen the many "I bricked my TF300T" threads, so do yourself a favor, and do the NVFlash backup.
Now, once you've gotten the NVFlash out of the way (it's extremely important that you do the NVFlash backups first, because you can't go back and do them later), we can upgrade you to Jellybean. The easiest way, IMO, is to boot your tablet into fastboot, and flash the stock ASUS firmware (specifically, the first version of 10.x) that way. If you search the forum for "fastboot stock firmware", you should find at least a couple good guides on how to do that.
Once you're on the stock firmware, you can just update via the OTA method. Download the firmware you need (I suggest doing this incrementally, so get each individual update), unzip it, and put the resulting zip file on the root of either your external SD card or the internal storage (doesn't matter). If the tablet doesn't notify you of an update, just reboot. When you get the update notification, accept it, and it'll flash like a normal OTA. Just do this until you're up to date.
Keep in mind, if you go up to the 10.6.x.x firmware (Android 4.2), your only AOSP option will be a mostly-but-not-completely functional CM10.1. So, you may want to stay on the newest 4.1 firmware (10.4.2.20, I believe) until all the issues are ironed out.

Alright awesome thanks that answered a bunch of my questions. And one more thing so since youre saying if I go to the latest update if be limited to just cm10, what about paranoid android rom in saw in dev section. Would that work on the 4.1 update? Or do I have to go to 4.2 to use that rom? I know it's not really a help question per she but just wanna make sure I don't waste any time lol

Almost every AOSP ROM, including the official CM10.1, requires the 4.1 bootloader. They are stable. The CM for the 4.2 bootloader is in testing stages still, but I believe that the only thing that's broken now is the camera. Regardless, stick to the 4.1 OTA for now if you want a wide selection of AOSP ROMs.

It wouldn't hurt. Also make sure you're using the newest version of fastboot.
Where can I get it? Just update the one from android SDK?
