2.2.1 rooted already question - Samsung Infuse 4G

Unjust bought this phone from someone on Craigslist and it already rooted(yay) but now I'm wondering if I can install CM10.1 or not. I don't want to mess this up....

yes you can. Just follow instructions. FYI it's a multi-step process.
You will need to get gingerbread and gingerbread bootloaders first. The easiest way is to use Odin and wipe the phone to install gingerbread with root and CWM. Several ways to do this though.
Then you need to flash CM9 or some kind of ICS.
Then you can flash any Jelly bean rom from there.
You can not flash directly from 2.1 to 4.2 unfortunately.

Odin will work fine, but many of the Odin flashables do not contain GB bootloaders. Here is a helpful thread of Heimdall one clicks that do contain GB bootloaders. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081

Seems much more simple to root when your at 2.3.5 (with stock recovery) then OTA update and you will keep root. I think it MIGHT work even if you have CWM but have not tested.
INope doesnt work if u have cwm i tested and so did a few others. But yes thats correct thats easier but i posted this for those who took the update and were not rooted

People are reporting that they didn't loose root when updating. However, not sure if they had stock recovery or not installed at the time. I didn't risk it and flashed back to stock then confirmed SuperOneClick did not work. Used the method described above and rooted.
Yes they had stock recovery. You cant take the ota unless you have stock recovery. And correct if you are rooted with stock recovery u will not loose root
Coming from Captivate and have had flashed HTC phones in the past, I kind of feel like anything Odin IS the easy method. It's like we had a OneClickMethod and a TwoClickMethod.
Correct odin is very easy if you read and follow all directions.
Link to stock recovery
Anybody have a link to the stock recovery for the skyrocket. I want to avoid having to flash completely back to stock before updating to 2.3.6.

Ok, maybe I am missing something here...
WHY are we going to the OTA update if many are reporting poor 4g performance after the update. I don't want my 4g to run slower just so I can say I have 2.3.6

at&t users ICS update thread

OK guys since there is a large number of users getting update fever im gonna make this as a means to keep the repeats down hopefully you will all read it and understand.
first off if you are on 2.3.5 you will have an update ota to 2.3.6
if you are on 2.3.6 currently there is no update (i will update the op if this changes)
rules you must be on 2.3.6 stock with stock recovery as well no apps frozen or debloated to get the update (op will change if i am wrong)
on 2.3.6 there is a glitch saying that you have an update available it is wrong you will try it may attempt a dl even but you will not get all the way.
so heres what we need if you take an update and meet all these criteria and it downloads and installs and you see in the about phone section that its 4.0.whatever then you can post i will ask whever takes it gets a stock nand preferably unrooted and rooted this will cut down on the number of posts and help the mods ok thank you for your time

2.3.5 must have the glitch also as that's what i have and I get the same messages. It wont even update to 2.3.6 as I believe AT&T is getting their system ready to put out the 4.0 whatever. Whatever the actual case maybe it can not be to far off now.

Questions belong in the Q&A Section.
The signature verification failed because SCV7 is based on our ICS leak. Which is TOTALLY different than the OTA update you recieved. There are currently no ROMs available for the firmware you are on.

Possibly that rom is only for the leak ics not for the ota? And you dont use stock recovery you have to use bootmenu or safestrap to install.

If you're coming from the official OTA for ICS, and tried to flash SCv7 (which is based on our AT&T leak) you likely have soft bricked your device. You cannot flash an unofficial leak version of a ROM to an official ICS ROM, you should have thought this through a little better. I'm sorry to say, but you're probably S.O.L. (Google that, if needed)...

It likely comes from the custom recovery.bin - i.e. CWM recovery. It'll go away if you flash/Odin a stock variant.

Question on updating from 4.1.1 VBRBLK3 to 4.1.2 VBRMF1

I have a rooted Verizon S3 that is currently on 4.1.1 VBRBLK3, I would like to upgrade it to 4.1.2 VBRMF1. I understand that I can use Odin to do a full rom flash however but I don't want to go that route, I would like to use the apply the update using the recovery option . In order to do this, do I need to appy the updates in sequencial order? Like update it to VBRMB1 first and then VBRMF1 or I can apply VBRMF1 directly to VBRBLK3?
Thanks,

Since its a rooted zip, it will upgrade the software to VRBMF1. Your baseband (Settings/About Phone/Baseband) will still read VRBLK3 so you'll need to flash the firmware that Sandman-007 just posted about. As I said before, this will only work if you are rooted AND unlocked. If you haven't unlocked your bootloader then do not try this method.
To answer your initial question in your first post, you can take the OTA which will unroot your device. You can then use Casual by beanstown106 to root/unlock again.

Looks about right. The flashing order does not matter. I prefer to flash separately with a boot into the rom between flashes whereas others would flash all at once. Personal preference really.
