TF700T vs Kindle Fire HD 4G preorder - Asus Transformer TF700

I have owned the Transformer Infinity TF700T for almost 2 weeks now and I love how smooth and amazing it looks. I can't wait for the Jellybean to come out for it. I originally bought the TF700T because I patiently waited for Amazon to release some information about the KF2 but never heard for almost 3 months, so I bought the TF700T. I bought my tablet from Best Buy, I have a silver membership so I get a extended return time than usual customers.
The only problem I have with the TF700T is the lack of 4G and how some of the apps are not compatible with it. I recently bought the $120 TF700T keyboard and haven't been too impressed with it, it makes typing convenient (small size keys) but the mouse support is very difficult to use. So most the time I am always using the touchscreen and then typing. Sorry I got sidetracked, I am currently using my wifi tether app on my 4G Thunderbolt to get internet connection on the go and using other wifi connections. I have also used the bluetooth internet tether. However, when I use my phone past 10 minutes of internet usage, my phone starts getting overly hot and can crash my phone (my phone has been crashing a lot recently, hardware issue). I can barely depend on my phone other than light internet use and phone use. The new Kindle Fire HD 4G will allow 250MB per month for $50 a year. It sounds like a deal, obviously I understand I can't download movies and use it constantly but I like the idea that I can use it for light internet use without depending on my phone. However, I wish Amazon would boost the limit to 1GB, that would be amazing.
The only thing I was dissapointed with my original Kindle Fire before someone stole it was how I was unable to use the Google Play Store unless I rooted it. Also I was disappointed by Amazon's limited launcher and the amount of things I was limited to. Amazon's app market is always behind on the updates (can take almost 6 months to get the newest update and you find out there was another update that occured) and how limited their app list are. I have spent well over $300 in Google Play Market apps, I should be able to use them on my android device. I do like Amazon's Free App of the Day though, Amazon gets something positive in this paragraph.
I am confused on what I should do? Anybody have any suggestions?

HD 8.9 or HD 7?
le rustle face

Only the 8.9 has the LTE.
With all the money you've spent on the play store I would stick to a real android tablet.
Why not get a new phone? Wireless tether works great on my GS3.

Having a MIFI is pretty useful. Can connect multiple devices, but it will cost a lot more money.

[Q] Thinking of buying one of these

I love Android, and especially the community that every device has.
I currently have an Epic 4G Touch (Sprint's GSII) and I have never owned a tablet.
This Thanksgiving break I visited my cousins and lo behold, practically all of them had an iPad 2. It was a very convenient thing to have around, I never really saw a tablet as a useful item. But I see that tablets are really neat now, it's like a phone, but bigger and not as heavy and clunky as a laptop.
And with today's web based world, it's really convenient to have a tablet on your coffee table to just use when chatting with friends, family gatherings or just watching tv and you need to look up something on the web. Or a device to watch Netflix or Hulu on, but your phone's screen is just too small and it's weird to hold it. Blah blah, useful features could go on.
Anyways, I missed the BestBuy sale for $250 unfortunately, and Gamestop is sold out for $300. But on Craiglist, a lot of folks are selling them for $330 unopened because they are bastards and bought them during black friday to make a profit.
I know the Transformer Prime is coming out on 12/8 for $500 but I simply can't afford that. Do you guys think that the regular Transformer will drop down in Price after the Prime comes out?
So I am left with multiple dilemmas:
1. Buy brand new for $330 off craiglist
2. Wait for possible price drop
3. 3D monitor + nVidia 3D vision kit
4. Solid State Drive
When I look into Android products I look into the modding community for the device on XDA, and it looks like the Eee pad has the best one.
So, should I get one or no?
If you could provide me with a link to buy one for under $300, I will buy it without hesitation.
Thank you
I can't give you a link, but I will tell you that you will certainly love your Eee Pad. Keep looking. This week has a lot of good internet deals. You're bound to find something. Otherwise offer someone on craigslist around $315 and see if they bite. Even at $330, its still a great value.

As an owner of a transformer I can personally say that it's a great device. It does everything for me (including the stuff you listed) and i'm not sure how much a performance boost the quad core will actually bring (to me i think the tegra 3 is an overkill in processor power).
I recall asus saying that when the transformer prime is released, the old transformer price will drop to 250 and 350 for the 16 and 32gb models (respectively). Don't quote me on this though.
However, if your interested in the dev/modding of the transformer you may be disappointed. I believe all the models you'll find in the stores today will have a locked kernel which means you can't root the device (until the xda dev's figure a way out)

What really? No way...
If I can't root it that's a deal breaker right there
edit: well im doing some current browsing on the forum and no where does it mention that some models can't be rooted.
In fact there's a one click root for all models in the dev section
New models can be rooted now. There is a link in the dev section somewhere. If you can wait untill the Prime comes out I will have 2 32gb for sale. Already rooted, with or without docks. In fact when the Prime comes out like the other poster said I bet you can get a good deal. I was planning on selling mine for 300 without dock when the time comes.
Edit: Post for rooting all versions is in dev section look for "razorclaw"

If you are still interested I am selling mine with keyboard and boxes for both already rooted (running Revolver) for $400 + shipping. Not a scratch on the tablet or keyboard. Just bought the keyboard a couple of weeks ago to replace a defective one.
PM if interested.

Well since you got two, and the Prime comes out in a week or so, why not C.O.D. one of those babies to my location ?
$300 is a deal.
I can personally tell you the new ones can be rooted VERY EASILY using razorclaw with one click. It took less than a second... I have a B90 and I bought it this week. Rooted, custom rom, cwm, and overclocked.

If you buy a transformer retail you can always get a price adjustment if it does drop. Bestbuy extended their return policy for 60 days during christmas. Just an idea.

Save your money and go to Best Buy and price match it with Game Stop for $299. I just bought the wife one for Christmas.
There will be a lot of these for sale as people trade up to the Prime, however I would be very cautious of the Craig's list ones advertised as new in box. They are more likely to be used with the box. The same thing happened when the current transformer replaced the Viewsonic Gtab. Once the prime comes out, you should be able to get a good used TF for $250 or so with some acc.

Would they just be like even if you wanted the gamestop one, you couldnt cause its sold out.

No, as long as it's a current advertised price they should match it, in stock or not.

I just called the best buy in my town and they said it had to be in stock in the store in our town too. So no deal on that. Luckily I snagged one last night from bhphotovideo for 344. Hopefully they don't get too cheap any time soon. They are selling out almost everywhere though.

You should be able to find one for $300. I bought one (excellent condition, barely used) last week with dock for $350 and there seem to be a few at around 320 without dock. Wait a week or so, people who have it at 320+ will not end up selling them anyway and when the prime comes out they'll go in the 250-300 range pretty quickly.
Best buy models are tf101-x1 and everywhere else they are the original tf101-a1. Best buy did this to prevent price matching the device because Walmart and others sold the a1 model, good luck on price matching

Just to revisit the original question for a moment, the SSD purchase might be a compelling alternative. It depends how you use the PC you would be putting it in, but they can pretty dramatically speed up a lot of tasks. Disk I/O is quite often the bottle neck in modern systems, and going from a spinning platter and arm to no moving parts could have a dramatic effect. Again though it all depends on how powerful your system is (if it can take full advantage of the IO speed gains), and what types of tasks you use it for.
Of course the flip side of that is: you may end up using your PC a LOT less if you pick up a Transformer, Prime or original. I know I do. Between my blackberry (email, instant messaging) and transformer (web surfing, google reader for rss feeds, and occasional angry birds or similar simple gaming), I barely have to use my laptop any more.
I got mine during black friday at best buy too. I was hestitant at first and wasn't sure about the rooting because of it being a newer and different model but this tablet is amazing. I love the internet, FLASH!, the apps, and the widgets. I hooked up to my tv the other day to show my roomates and they were blown away. I already rooted mine too just need to overclock it. This is is my first tablet and android device. The camera isn't that great but I did not get it for the camera. I recommend the best buy way. Buy it now and when the prime comes out you can return it to best buy and get the prime.
If I play with the prime and it seems worth it I will probably do that. However, if you want a first generation one there will probably be lots of people selling them on here. Totally worth the black friday mess and being short for rent. Also, if you use your phone as a hot spot with it it's even more amazing. There are plenty of apps to enjoy even without wi-fi and spotify or rdio for music.
I atually do use my laptop less now. Only thing I dont like is the laggyness of the keyboard strokes on this site. I am hoping overclocking will solve it. Dolphin and stock are both fast but I like dolphin the best so far. I'm falling in love with the touch gestures. Made one just for XDA
There are a couple of ways to get it for $299. Call around to the local game stops and see if they have the transformer in stock. When you called best buy you gave too much information.

Nexus or pad tf700

$249 or $499
Its $250 more worth buying the Tf700?
Or Buy the Nexus7 Now enjoy it and see what the next big thing its..
Help me decide...
PS:Its seems like ASUS energy has shifted towards the Nexus7.
When its the TF700 is going to get the JellyBean Android 4.1?

No one can solve this dilemma but you. It's comparing apples to pears: the screen's resolution is different, the underlying hardware is to a large extent different, the available storage solutions are different, the charging keyboard dock (which I find great) is obviously a definite plus.
Resolution is one area where these two are comparable due to pixel density. Both are at the top of their respective size classes and will have very crisp, clear text. The Nexus 7 is pretty much a mini infinity minus the dock, hdmi and sd.
But the problem is you don't seem to know what you want. If your interest in the infinity is based on it being the 'it' tab, not on any particular feature, it probably isn't a good buy. Think about what you want to do with a tablet, and think about which tablet meets those criteria.
PS Asus is a massive company, perfectly capable of juggling many different product lines.
What the hell,
Just order TF700 from Amazon...3 to 4 weeks wait. Damn......................
I just ordered a TF700T about an hour ago on Newegg, it's shipping out tomorrow, should have it in 2 days.
They seem to be out of stock again though. Glad I was able to grab one because of Newegg's notifications!
damn bro im in the same situation especially with the asus hybrid tablet ultra books coming out later with windows 8 and dual booting into android. but i need a tablet now and especially in the fall for school. but for 199$ the nexus is so temping damn
Had the same issue myself and could not decide until i really thought about what i needed it for....just like the person said in a couple of posts above.
Since i really want it for business first (I'm in sales) i realized i really needed the bigger screen and the ability too add removable storage.
i went to my local TMobile store and checked out both screen sizes in other tablets and it seemed that the 7" was a little too small for me.
While, i don't need a camera (since i have one on my phone) it is nice that will be able to take photos of documents and sales orders and email them directly from the tablet.
So I agree, think about what your needs are, and go somewhere to check out the sizes if you are not sure.
However....that said, i bought my wife one instead of an Amazon kindle, and it shipped already, and i ordered it after my 700

All the reviews out there say otherwise. There's a reason they went with a faster version of the Tegra 3.
When Jelly Bean arrives, the screen will be the last of the issues we will be concerned about. Asus just released both devices but you can be sure we will likely see jelly bean in the not so distant future seeing how long they likely had the source code

Asus never announced a tablet that dual-boots into Android. It was a full size All in One desktop computer, that thing could never be carried around as a tablet it's three times the size of the largest Android tablet...

We will see Jelly Bean from someone soon. I think the CyanogenMod team might start developing CM10 for the Infinity, they just sent out a preview build of mostly everything running on the TF101 and TF201.
There were rumors before Jelly Bean came out that JB itself would be equipped (maybe parallels-esque) to dual boot windows for those manufacturers who wanted to put both on a system. Didn't pan out, though back then we though JB = 5.0. Maybe the real 5.0 will come ready to dual boot. But a number of Asus windows systems licensed bluestacks for android app emulation, perhaps that was what he was thinking of.
I am thinking about picking up a Nexus 7 for my son so he wont want to play games on my infinity. I still go back and forth between a 7 or a 10 inch tablet. Not being able to expand the memory on the Nexus 7 I think is a deal breaker for me.
My infinity TF700 should be here today..(UPS)
Why I,m i still thinking about buying the Nexus 7?
I believe that each tablet has different use cases. The Infinity allows for a little more productivity with the keyboard attachment as well as a incredible screen for viewing HD movies. The Nexus 7 lends itself to portability, reading (love reading Pocket on my Kindle Fire), and streaming content. To me the Infinity is better for me as I want productivity and all day battery life when I'm at school and/or work and the screen is going to be great for watching video on it.

i own both nex7 and infinity they are both great, i use infinity for all my tegra 3 games since it has a much better screen imo and faster gpu, plus has longer battery life with the dock, but on the other hand i take my nex7 everywhere because of the size and with the tab talk app i rarely pull out my gnex i just do it all on the nex7, so i would say infinity if your at home alot or sitting at a desk often and the nex7 if your always on the go and need portability.

Best Tablet

Okay guys, I need some advice here. I am going to be forced to buy a tablet for work. I am the salesman of the month and what they do is give $500 or an IPad if you don't have a tablet. This will be used primarily for work with office software, emails, remote desktop, etc.
I am not sure that I want the IPad. I am thinking Android but not very familiar with the tablets. My brother had a Xoom and I am not crazy about it. I was wanting to decide on something so I might be able to get it in the Market Place here on XDA. I also think I want to be able to buy accessories like a dock, etc.to use with it.
Let me know what you guys think.....
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Just FYI, the $500 limit is probably unrealistic. Especially with a dock, etc..
I do love my Samsung Galaxy 10.1" 32GB, but they can't sell them now or something because of a law suit with Apple'
I also have an ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T Tablet 64GB and it is quick! But a TF300T would probably serve you real well!
Just make sure not to go below 32GB. You won't be happy if you do!
The ASUS has a really nice dock, if you're going to do a lot of typing. As for remote, TeamViewer puts the PC's desktop on your tablet.
Hope this helps!
I'd second a recommendation for the Asus TF300 or TF700 series. If you opt for a $700, you can buy a TF201 Prime dock that will work with the new Infinity tablet. I mention this as it will be cheaper than the official TF700 keyboard dock ($30 - 40).
My brother has the original galaxy tab that I could probably pick if for $100 but it has a very small screen and not much storage. It does have an SD card slot though.
Do any of you think the IPad is better than an Android tablet for office stuff? I will not be gaming on it, never really liked it or don't have the time.

I can't really give a non-biased answer on that. I know people that have iPads and have integrated them with their day-to-day work, but more often than not I see them playing games or checking email and not really do anything that's specific to the platform.
I know I personally would opt for the Android tablet route, but for e-mail, remote desktop, etc I think the apps are good on both sides of the fence and you'll be happy either way you go
Samsung
If you want an android tablet Samsung is probably the way to go
What would be a good price on the original 7" tablet that he has? It is Verizon 3g leather case and dock. He has it on a data plan now but I think I will use WiFi only. Oh it also has the SD card slot and is 8/10.

You guys are slacking. Nexus 7 16GB and pocket $250 for accessories...beer money...hookers and blow.
7"-8" is where it's at for portability. Who wants to lug around a freaking iPad all day.
If you absolutely need storage then OTG cable or wi-drive such as AirStash or Kingston Wi-Drive...
I don't know how anyone can be on XDA and still stomach it to wake up in the morning owning an Apple product. Wasn't so bad previously, but this latest round of lawsuits has gotten out of hand and I choose to practice what I preach.

Well, I'd say Xoom 2. It's beautiful and has a great built quality (and it's also water resistant).
I'd go for the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T.
The display and processor are simply hard to beat!
Asus Transformer is hands down the best.
Usability, the Samsung is the clear winner. The ASUS has no Task Manager (likke in Win). It has no screen captue icon in the Task/Status Bar. The ASUS powers up just from plugging it in to charge and there's no way to see how much charge it has, without starting it up.
These things do make a big difference and they are annoying weaknesses of the ASUS TF700T! In fact, I'm debating returning the ASUS and keeping my slower Samsung because of these things only. But I do like how fast and smooth the ASUS is and how good its screen looks.
However, without ebing able to root this ASUS, I can't do a lot of what I need to do and the DebugFS rooting method acts like it worked, but it doesn't and I can't post to that thread yet, because you have to jump thru hoops here first. So far its been a few days and I'll have a few more to go before I can post there, if I still even can. No offense to the admins, but it really pisses me off! I came here for one reason and one reason only and that was to address the developer about why it's not working for me and that will take a week! I will probably have returned the ASUS by then and say screw it. I wouldn't care if I could find another way to root it, but Google gives me no love there.
I know that last part seems off-topic, but it's not, considering how many people will need to be able to root and that being part of a recommendation and fols having problems with what seems to be the only rooting method available and no way to ask for help here, if they just got the device, find out the developer posts here and have to wait days just to ask a lousy question.
So as weird as it sounds, the ASUS has a mark against it due to XDA-Forums. If the util doesn't work, that is. Again, no offense. That's just the way it is.
Moral of the story? If you need to root, you can try the ASUS if you want. But if the util doesn't work right away and you don't have the privileges here, then just return it and get the Samsung, if you can't wait. Otherwise, just get the Samsung. It will root easy enough. If the situation weren't what it is with access to the developer, then no big deal.

Should I Buy a TF101?

In the market for my first tablet.
Have seen a new tf101 selling discounted online. This is without the keyboard, which I don't really need.
Primarily I'd be using it for browsing and playing media on the TV via the hdmi output. Gaming isn't really something I'll be using it for, although I'm sure the kids might. 10" is preferred. Sd card slot is also a plus for me (these reasons keep me from looking at the Nexus 7).
Anyhow should I buy one? What's your experience like regarding build quality and reliability?
I own one since February and I am still satisfied with it, no plan to replace it soon. I've just rooted to install Jelly Bean, but also before that it was ok.
The keyboard dock is also very useful for me, I use it to take notes in class.
The simple games that I play like angry birds work just fine.
So basically it depends on your budget and your desire to have always the latest stuff.

Cheers for the reply. Good to hear you had a good experience using it.
Without the keyboard I can get it cheaper than the Nexus 7. Although it's "only" dual core, I think it's great value for money.

I purchased a transformed around April of this year. Before the tf101 I was on a touchpad, before that a nook tablet rooted. I have used friends tablets and I would have to say that the tf101 is the best I've experienced. It runs great and with over clocking capabilities its great
I just purchased a used dock on amazon and it makes the experience so much better. It doubles the battery life and I am able to use a mouse which makes operation much faster. I use splashtop with my desktop so its almost like having a little windows netbook.
The guys in the tf101 forums are great and they're really great with giving us new features. I just figured out that I can pretty much expand my 16gb of memory to 64gb. How cool is that?
You can get them for under $200 on amazon and I doubt you will be disappointed.

[Q] Recommend the TF300 for the non-techie?

Hey guys, for Christmas this year I was planning to get my mother a low cost "premium" 10inch Android tablet. She has previously been using a Viewsonic G-Tablet, mostly to just peruse shopping websites. She has been pretty great at navigating it, but the crappy screen, heavy weight, and just plain SSSLLLOOOOOWWWness have me wanting to get her a more name brand and reliable piece of hardware.
So that brings me here. I have been eyeing the TF300 for a while and Best Buy having it on a Black Friday sale is making me close to pulling the trigger. However, just looking over some threads here i'm seeing a few people cursing this tablet to death. So I want to check in with you guys, is this a reliable, low cost, quality option?
Don't forget, all I really need this thing for is solid web browsing, responsiveness, Google+ Hangouts, ease of use, and email.
Looking forward to everyone's input.
Yeah man get it..its been great so far no issues at all..google top 10, 10 inch tablets, its in the top 3 most of the time..(this is simply my opinion from my experience)
Ha, I'll probably get flamed for saying this but... get her an ipad. I love my TF but it's only because I've been rooted and unlocked since day one and have spent a bunch of time trying out new ROMs. Oh, and I run the stock browser with the 'ipad user-agent' because it just works better because people actually care about making sites ipad-friendly.
It seems like not everyone has the same experience with these, so it's hit-or-miss as to which you'll get. If it was me, and my wife wanted a new tablet and I didn't want to have to mess with it every time she complains of issues, I'd go with the ipad.

Get the nexus 10! Can't go wrong with it!

Well for non-techie I would recommend the ipad, it's extremely simple and you won't need to worry about some android stuff

I'd say only go for it if the keyboard is a major selling point for her. If she can live without the keyboard dock, I'd get her the nexus 10.
I would go for it. Why not?! For what you're mom is going to be using it for is great. She's not going to be entering the Dead Trigger video game playoffs, and she's certainly not going to breach national security with it by hacking into the main frame of the NSA. (She's not going to, right?)
I know if I were to get this as a gift, I'd be saying COOL! Plus I'd be thankful that it wasn't an iPad2. Mom will love ya for it!!

Nexus 10 or note 10.1. The transformer has I/O issues.

I think that you have 2 solutions:
The first:
You bought an IPAD 1 or 2, cause it's simply efficient for someone who don't need the same need as us.
And the IPAD is 3G & Wifi.
Second:
You buy a TF300, you will unlock (or not), root for her.
I don't know if in US there is a big difference in price between the TF300 and TF700.
I wouldn't get it. its freakin slow unless its rooted with a custom rom. then it rocks!
Great responses guys. iPad wise, personal bias aside, she's not a fan of the aspect ratio. Not to mention it is killer to pay that "Apple tax" when I know I can go Android (she is also familiar with Android, currently using a Samsung Vibrant as a phone and like I said the Viewsonic) and get a better product for cheaper.
Now the Nexus 10 crossed my mind on announcement, but I think the price makes it slightly TOO premium for my wallet. $350 minimum plus tax and shipping for the Nexus vs $280+Tax and out the door for the Transformer on Black Friday. I'm currently using the Nexus 7 to write this, but she isn't a fan of the smaller form factor.
I'm curious about the poor I/O performance I've seen around here, how exactly is that manifesting in day to day use? Don't forget, she's coming from a Viewsonic G Tablet running a custom Froyo rom (JB too unstable). Surely we're looking at a huge speed increase, even with bad i/o performance? Just website browsing on Dolphin should be speedy right?
If you don't root or anything, stock browser doesn't perform too well. It hangs. Using other browsers helps but I only use chrome really and that's not even that good. Certainly worse than the nexus 7. The I/O issues do get annoying and there is lag in some places. Have you looked at the Note 10.1?

I/o is terrible and affects normal web browsing. if you flash a custom its fixed but on stock it blows. I love mine rooted and custom.
if you flash cm10 stable + custom kernel its freakin fast... otherwise not so much,...
I have a stock tf300 and have no problems browsing using Dolphin. Dolphin is quick enough for me and it never crashes, even with lots of tabs open. Your mother will love it compared with what she has got now.
