Greetings forum members,
I have a basic question and hopefully someone or multiple people could help me out. I am currently in the market for a tablet;Asus Transformer or the Acer A500. I currently have a Moto Droid X running OTA 2.3.3 and of course no root options at this time.
I have the application called PDAnet for my computer when the internet goes out at home and I need the internet for quick access. I am wondering if anyone knows of an app like PDAnet that I can install on the tablet and tether to my phone for internet access.
Yes I know I can sbf back to froyo and re-root and install the gingerbreak leak that already has root to do the wireless tether. That is currently my last option. I wouldn't be doing the tether very much but it would be nice for my trip to Disney World next month with the family.
Thank you for time on reviewing this post and I am hoping alot of people will help out. GO XDA FORUMS!
i have an X and transformer.. and easy tether, which i think is the same basically as pdaNET..... and none of those tethering apps are gonna work because they require you to load software onto the the device supplying the data. for example i have to install and .exe application on my windows computer to tether it via my X for a data connection. im not aware of of any of the tethering apps that have made a .apk app to install on an android platform to use as the source of the data tether..... just gonna have to do your homework and root the X.... its really easy and once you do it ull love your tablet even more.
Both the Transformer and A500 tablets only recognize infrastructure wifi unless you root them and either do a supplicant replacement or install a custom ROM. On my Acer A500 I rooted & installed latest Taboonay custom ROM which instantly allowed my tablet to find all Ad-HOC signals, including the signal from my Epic 4G Touch with WiFi Tether Version 3.1-beta6 installed. Not sure but you MIGHT get lucky linking your PDAnet to a tablet running the Taboonay ROM.
What up everyone!
As we all know, Zdzihu has released zKernel that is capable of many things, one of which include full netfilter support (droid wall & wifi tether). I know that many of have used barnacle wifi but one of the issues I had with it was that it sets up an ad hoc network to allow wifi tethering. The problem with android is that, for whatever reason, it can not connect to ad hoc networks. As such those of us with android tablets or other android phones could not tether using our X10s.
Now fast forward to today. The zKernel (probably other ones by Goro kun too) has full netfilter support but how can we use it? Well, rather simple. Download this handy dandy app from this here link:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I downloaded the latest evo 4g version for eclair and wifi tethering works! Now I've got my X10s tethered with each other. No more ad hoc support via barnacle wifi for me!
Note: Remember to install zKernel first! Also, I had issues with connecting to a secure network via this app. However, there is an option to enable access controls that allows you to authorize connections.
Thanks to all the developers for making this possible!
Installation Instructions:
1. Download & Install Z's zKernel via Xrecovery found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135475
2. Download apk in the link in the middle of the page.
be more specific about the kernel, as far as i know the best way to tether is whit bernacle thats on our x10,, and for the use of os tether i read on zdzihu page that is kernel related...
Huh?

Not trying to start a fight but how more specific do you want me to be? Please read my post carefully as I do mention Z's zKernel not only in the name of the thread but in the OP multiple times too. I will bold them for your entertainment as well as provide a useful link to Z's thread. To my knowledge there is only one zKernel that was released as of today's date of 6/22/2011. Please let me know if you know of any others. Additionally, I do mention the use of barnacle wifi in the second sentence above and the problem associated with it. But what if you have another android device? How do you tether it using barnacle wifi?
Thanks for your concerns but please read a bit more carefully as this does relate to a kernel.
can u upload the app u are use? please, because i download more than one but without sucess, only get ad-hoc mode =/

Yes, me too! Only ad-hoc mode!
Still, it's better than Barnacle though, more stable!
Hey all. Looks like I made a mistake. In my haste and excitement I automatically thought the app was not running an ad-hoc mode because I was able to tether my other X10 (with no sim/service) to my X10 that had service/sim. After reading the FAQ of the android-wifi-tether app, I found that it does indeed connect via ad-hoc mode.
The FAQ can be found here:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/wiki/FAQ
My understanding was that Android devices could not connect to ad-hoc mode so I wonder why this app is different from Barnacle. I tried connecting via Barnacle to test if it would work but to no avail.
Hello,
I have been updating my Xoom MZ604 with the information from XDA for a while. My last update was to Jelly Bean using the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1796335
Update was flawless and in a couple of minutes I was running again my Xoom.
Now I discovered Ad-Hoc is not working as previous ICS version....
I tried to use the same "wpa_supplicant" change as previous ICS and HC solutions and the Wi-Fi stooped working... So it seems not a potential solution. :crying:
After my unsuccessfull wpa adventure, I returned it to the original JB file without ad-hoc support.
Does anyone have a solution for it??? If not I am going back to ICS...
Regards to all
Easiest solution: get a device that broadcasts in infrastructure.

Maybe easiest but not cheapest one.... :cyclops:
Currently I use my Motorola Milestone 3 (Droid 3) as router when I am not home...
Android HC with the wpa_supplicant modification was able to work in this combination.... Android JB not :crying:

There are a few different apps, some that will require root access, that should be able to broadcast in infrastructure mode. AOSP roms usually do as well though I don't know what development is like for the Droid 3 given the locked bootloader.
Tethering using bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi.

I got your recommendation and after some additional searching in google I got to an application that uses the bluetooth for sharing the internet connection without needing to root my phone (company phone).
So I installed FoxFi in the phone (from Google Play Store) for free and in the tabled the PadNet Tablet application (also for free at Google Play Store).
I just enabled the bluetooth solution at FoxWi in the phone and then started the PadNet in the Xoom.
It paired and made a VPN connection over bluetooth.
Now internet is working again in my Xoom using my Motorola Milestone 3 (Droid 3) as router.
It is not as simple as before using Wi-Fi router solution (standard application in the Milestone 3) and Xoom running HC with modified wpa_supplicant file but at least I have my internet connection!!!
Hi, newbie here.
i have been reading for a while on this forum, i was using Nokia E7 for my work purposes, and interested to know if photon Q can replace it. i like QWERTY device anyway. as photon Q looks attractive for me so finally I got one.
i am interesting if i can connect photon Q to 802.1x with LEAP.
i try to play with stock wifi setting, no LEAP option there, i try to play with LEAP Wifi free (can be downloaded in google play), Wifi advanced configuration editor, wifi connection manager, try all possible setting but still can't connect to my company network.
other status :
SW version 77.8.14
android version 4.0.4
build number = 7.7.1Q-6_SPR-125_ASA-14
i was wondering if i need to root/unlock bootloader to have LEAP connected (so i can edit something/files).
any idea or any help? thank you !
Never used this type of wifi, but maybe this post will help?

thanks, but i have tried that and not working.
I assume a lot of university & company still using Cisco LEAP Authentication.
once we find a way, photon q can be the perfect phone for businessman & student.
I use "LEAP WiFi Free" from the market (Play Store) and it works perfect with LEAP authentication at my workplace.

I buy a new Smart TV Samsung UE48H6500 with wifi direct and mirroring functions.
I want mirroring my lovely Xoom MZ601 everest (team EOS KK 4.4.4)
