Hi! I'm a happy desire S user, who like to use the smartphone for mail, chat, navigation etc. Now I have a fully stock rom 2.3.5 with s-on and no modding and I think that this desire S is great.
Now HTC has released ICS via RUU. Do you suggest me to update? Are there known bugs? Is it better to choose the stock RUU or a modded ROM for a user like me?
thank you guys
it's a compromised decision

Yes I know
The important question is: is it true that RUU have a lot of bugs? I have read on a thread on this form of a link bug (tap on link on gmail don't work)...
it has some bugs, but not a lot. sarch & read about them and decide. for me it's a good rom, maybe not for you.

are there ROMs that are clearly better? I found ICE DS 5.0 and, even if the name of the thread say "Stable" seems to have more than one bug..

Dun let other ppl's bug ruin the possibility of a good rom for your phone, i am on ice ds, bouncing between roms.
And the bugs a very mild, it is ok for my daily usage, no issues unless i undervolt it too much.
Am able to watsapp, sms, call, zelo, line, browse the web/forum/mangga, take pictures and so on.
As long as the bugs are NOT unable to call/sms or reboots every 1 hour, if not dun worry yourself about other ppl's bug/phone related problem.

most bugs in ICE DS thread are from older versions. it used to base on tweaked incredible firmware, so some bugs were expected. only with v5 it is made of the official DS ICS firmware.
I've updated Gmail and the link bug was gone. I think it's a very good rom. Very stable and and actually quite fast on my phone... Definitely worth to flash and try!

ICS on mine has been stable so far (GB would reboot weekly)
Apps auto reinstalled from Play Store,
re-imported texts and contacts from exported to SD just before update.
Plenty of apps have re-updated and everything is back as it should be.
Interface is better and more usable.
Battery life is similar to GB, maybe a few % worse, 3.5 days compared to nearer 4 days.
I'm happy
For web browsing I think gb is smoother
Indeed web is slower with movies lot slower

Some people have been asking me why my Inspire ROM based on RUU 2.36.405.8 feels smoother than other ROMs using this base (when scrolling through home screens in particular). I again thought I should share with the community to improve all Desire HD ROMs.
It's as simple as dropping in a few libs from the 2.31 leak (libsurfaceflinger.so, libsurfaceflinger_client.so, and libpagemap.so to be exact). Hopefully HTC takes notice of both this and the wifi issue and fixes them both in future builds.
This will help both RUU 2.36.405.8 and Saga based ROMs.
Just flash through Clockwork Recovery.
It may seem simple, but it actually took me a long time to narrow down which exact files are required to fix the issue, so if you appreciate my work, donations of any amount are very much appreciated.

my phones weather app started fc'ing after i flashed 6.0.2. up to then i only had the known sunday bug. after restoring to 6.0.1 fc'ing is no longer a problem. sunday bug persists.
also tried mdj's kernel v8. everything seemed fine at first. only problem was gps, wich couldn't find any satelites. now i'm on 6.0.1 with stock kernel and i just love all the working stuff. i trust, the few not working things can and will be fixed.

It's funny, I mentioned this scrolling lag quite a few times and people said things like "I have zero lag, the ROM is flying!" and stuff like that. I thought the lag was just targeting me haha. Nice to know I'm not alone .
Thanks for the fix man, I really appreciate it. I was about to give up on the laggyness on the new ROM's until I tried this out. It works like a charm and makes them as fast, or faster than the S ports.

For me, LBC v0.5.3 works flawlessly - 100% complete in my opinion. No stability issues for me whatsoever.. No crashes, FCs etc, no issues making or receiving calls, smoothness better than stock and battery life same/better than stock. It's a no brainer IMHO.

I'm waiting for an AOSP rom (CM 8hopefully), because that's my preference, but for a sense rom LBC is the best I've used.
Does the rom need you to flash kernels or radios? I'm not very good with that. Also can anyone send me a link

Look in the development forum, titles LBC mod, see link in my signature, it is suggested that you flash a new radio, but, all instructions are provided within the first post and on the supporting website
You shouldn't really start flashing until you feel reasonably comfortable with the process, so I'd suggest that you spend a day or two day reading the entire thread and the site before you do.
You can then ask any questions regarding anything you are unsure or are un clear about in the rom thread

You can try virtuous unity too
Try virtuous unity 1.29.0, its pretty stable too, running sense 3.0.

DO NOT FLASH radio's unless you really need to, we know a lot about the Nand and can recover from almost any error there, but the nvram, radio etc is a different story. A bad radio flash, could mean you end up with a very expensive calculator!
The stock HTC European Baseband (radio) is: 20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11_M. I did not need to change mine when I flashed LBC. Different carriers will have different radio's.
You can flash a Kernel any time after you flash your rom, otherwise the rom flash will simply overwrite your kernel flash. Pick the wrong kernel and it can cause you a lot of problems, although these should be easily recoverable. The only way to learn that, is experience.
Is there is a way to get a full miui theme on stock rom?
I am looking for a the same look like the miui rom. drop menu, icons, contacts, sms. very much something like framework.
Thanks guys

I am looking for a battery life near to the normal tuned roms battery life.
I don't think you'll be happy with an imitation launcher if you really want the MIUI look. I'd say stick with real MIUI, it gets better and better each week.

guys im thinking of finally updating to gingerbread because some apps are requiring that os .... my questions are :
if im rooted can i still just press the update button from the notification menu?
2. should i be doing that ? a lot of posts online complain about this update so is it worth it? could i be better off flashing a gingerbread based custom rom from this website?
3. is there a backup process to make sure i can go back to froyo if the need arises?
thanks

If you are rooted you should not update the phone using the button. I don't think it will work anyways. If you want stock gingerbread there are plenty on here. In my sig, Juicy has a stable, fast, yet great on battery 2.52 Gingerbread with sense 2.5. It is version R2. There are more advanced sense 3.0 and 3.5 ROMs out there too. Both highly modified and looking like a stock ROM.
okay ... so i will just keep ignoring that button i guess...

The update worked well for me and found no bugs when I did it, but It all depends on what you do with your cell. Custom Roms are all beta versions, that means that they all have bugs but most are very smooth and stable and have many tweaks to play with that you won´t find out in the stock gb update.
If you run the update, you will loose the root access, so you will have to run the hack kit again. You can also flash the rooted version of that RUU that is in the general section under the thread Stock Roms...is the Gene Pole's one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385016
Make a nandroid backup with the Rom Manager or 4EXT recovery (the one you are using) and in case you don't like the update go can restore it...hope it helps.

What I actually meant is that are not offical and bugs are solved on the run as reported by users...I have been using most of the roms in the forum and are awesome...I won´t go back to stock again again, but you have to know what you are doing and what to expect...

Actually yes. All roms posted here are considered beta. This is due to the face that every custom rom changes some coding in the OS or kernel. Only non beta roms are stock roms.
Sorry, my understanding of a beta version is one that is still undergoing testing prior to the official release. Since these ROMs will never see an official release, I don't consider the ones made off of an official RUU as beta. Just my opinion.

Just to thank you...
I pressed "Thanks" button. But who would say it's enough for someone who gave my One S a second life ?
About a week ago, I was pretty sure we'll get stuck on JB 4.1 with that good old Sense 4. That was good for me. I liked the phone for what it is. I liked stock ROM, even if the dark AOSP look and feel would have better suited my theme, but at least, everything worked fine. Our device has great battery life, makes marvellous pictures, brings a good sound for calls. I once was a flashoholic, but that was before. Always unlocking, modding, installing new things, with those bugs and missing functions... but I grew up since that time. I can't afford having an half working device anymore, so I calmed down.
I was stuck in the idea what I had was enough. Especially when I saw those useless threads about Sense 5 upgrade, which would come, then not, and recome, but in fact not... Boring and pathetic. And you brought another light of hope. YOU had that leak... You had the Grail. You gave it to us, Maximus HD is a great ROM, I've tried it for a day before you release the dump. It was night and day comparing Sense 4.I feel my phone is complete now. But I like vanilla flavour, so I've build a stock ROM for to fit my needs. You gave us another great gift.
Just a last time, thank you.
I did not get one thing. is this a leak of original hos rom to come or port from a different device?

Because of the firmware update you have to do that's why us devs are trying to fix up our ports we have one bug left and it would be the equivalent of labs Rom
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
OK thanks, that mean with this new firmware some devs tools or other things about developping aren't good for now. Anyway, if everything has been resized and ported to One S, that's a good news
There always tends to be small bugs with the ports... Major ones tend to get fixed... But small ones overlooked or persist for a while. For example I could never get the htc media link to work from the ports (although maybe newer updates could fix that). And some may find a benefit in the firmware update too. But to each their own. Its just good to see dev still working on our One S... Im just waiting for custom kernels to get a bit better on either ports or this one... Always love what ShowP's kernel based Mpdecision does to battery life.

Thanks but what I ask is if this rom is orginally developed for HOS or is it a port made by some other devs. I had a glimpse from your post that it is coming from HTC but just want to make sure it is because all the other sense 5 roms derives from evita afaik.
