I'm still a noob when it comes to the HTC one x. Is there a root exploit that I have missed for 2.20 possibly or is it like the bootloader, still waiting on the release from HTC?

There's about a thousand threads already on this subject. Search function is your friend.
And no, no root for 2.2 has been made available........ yet.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe we're still out of luck on that. Unless you updated to 2.20 from 1.85 with superCID. Thats the only work around to my knowledge.
Doesnt HTC have to let us root within 90-120 days from release?
---------- Post added at 01:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:27 PM ----------
Ahulab- yes you are correct there or if you were previously unlocked(supercid hand in hand obviously) you could unlock using your original token instead of having to regenerate another

Any updates on the Unlocking of the Bootloader or the Root Access for 2.20? I did not koww about this before purchasing the AT&T HTC One X.....very disappointed but if it is just a matter of time then i can wait, not sure how it normally goes for these things??

Does anyone know a method of downgrading the HTC One X to 1.85? I looked around hoping for an answer but nothing. Then I thought to myself (after having to download an ruu for my old vivid countless times) that I could just download the 1.85 RUU for the One X and run that. Unfortunatly that had failed. I'm wanting to root my One X but with it being 2.20, root capabilities have been eliminated. So, does anyone have a way of downgrading the phone? Results or not, Thanks.

Patience Luke. If you got to 2.20 before rooting you are effed for the moment, but sooner or later somebody will break it. Of you were already rooted and unlocked with a superCID you should be able to re rkotu

I know this sounds dumb (it did to me too) but you can exchange your phone for a new one so you would then have 1.85. Thats what i did and now i'm happily running sense 4.1.

Yeah at AT&T.
Hopefully that someone has more success than the devs that have been trying to break the s-off barrier :/ I know it's not easy, and I sure appreciate the work that goes into it.

i just got out of an IRC chat with mike1986 (the creator of the rom you would be running if you have a tegra phone) and he said that nobody has this one xL phone. it's just us guys. the rest of the world got the quad core tegra that is unlocked to begin with. we would have to be lucky that of the few one xL users, one of them has the competency to hack the new OTA.. and i asked beaups if he could do it, and he hasn't found a way yet (he hacked the 1.85)
Hmm...that does sound kind of depressing. I'm kind of wondering if there is still anything we can do if we have unlocked bootloaders but no root. I really want to know more about how exploits are found and how the other hacks were discovered.
If you're bootloader is unlocked then you're ok. You can always push root via recovery.

I'm now flashing the Stock Rooted Odexed version of 2.20 from scottsroms.com. I wonder if I'm the only one who updated that previously had root and an unlocked bootloader and thinks their stuck. Again, thanks Gunny. I didn't know I could still do this!
Did you have to install the boot.img separately?
No. I started with a relocked bootloader. I unlocked the bootloader again with my unlock token, flashed the twrp img using fastboot and then just flashed the odexed stock rooted updated rom. Worked like a charm.
Ok thanks.
They put the system update on me before I left the store and I didn't notice until it was too late. I tried to exchange and they wouldn't do it, not even for a re-stocking fee. Hopefully I can find a store that will be more cooperative.

Many threads on this process but in order to downgrade hboot you need either s off or you need to use jet tool to downgrade. S off is alot easier process and there is a thread with step by step, if your hboot was recently updated ota it can't be downgraded at this time

Hi guys, I know there are a lot of posts surrounding this topic, I did search but found many outdated methods so I am curious about the most up to date method.
I am using a one X that is one HTC SDK 4.11 build number 1.85 and software 1.85
Being an iphone jailbrake guy Im not sure which one matters most. Also, Im not sure about changing the bootloader as opposed to just rooting. If I change the bootlaoder am i essentialy unocking the carrier of the phone also?
So what is the currently method to rooting the One X, thank you so much, this is a very helpful forum.
Duck
Either the manual method or the 1.85 One Click by Beups and designgears
I'd imagine the STICKIED thread in development would be your best bet. You know, the one that says it's for 1.85.

Ok, being new cant post in the devs forum yet so have to post this follow-up here. So I wasn't paying attention and accidentally updated before reading the news about 2.20 here. I know I cant root now however here is my question:
If I exchange One X for replacement tomorrow that is on 1.85 is it still going to work as long as i avoid any OTA updates OR will it require an update during the process like ive read. I think Ive read that it can be interrupted but am not sure.
Thank You

My advice to you would be not to root. Htcdev is down, nothing you can do until it comes back up.
You would need to use xfactor because htcdev will not give you an unlock code otherwise.

You could force the update to 2.20 if you wanted. But 1.85 is easier to root, why are 1.85 root exploits "invalid" they worked for many many users before you?
You need root so you can change your cid because htcdev will not give you an unlock token while it is seem as a AT&T phone.

Current Status for m8 Bootloader Unlock / S-Off: RELEASED
Update 4/6/14: A Firewater S-Off method is released for the HTC M8. Please see the following tweet: https://twitter.com/firewaterdevs/status/452934672063156224
Go here to do it: http://firewater-soff.com/
----(Begin Old OP)----
The HTC M8 has launched for Big Red, and much to our dismay, HTCDev does not allow for us to unlock the bootloader through the traditional avenues.
Presently, there is no known workaround.
Thus, this is a thread for conversations regarding any progress being made on a bootloader unlock/S-Off method for the VZW HTC One M8.
Try to avoid being speculative as much as possible. Please post any updates you see in other threads and on other sites. Also, if notable champions of previous unlock methods/exploits want to post their efforts here (*ehem beaups et. al...), by all means, feel free!
This is not a bounty thread.
----(End Old OP)----
My m8 will be here tomorrow and can't wait.

Had my M8 since yesterday morning. I tried HTC Dev Unlock as soon as I got it hoping it would work. No such luck. I hope I'm wrong but I think we have a long, long wait for S-Off.
On the M7 there was a 5k bounty to get S-Off. It took from March 8th until October 7th to get S-Off on the M7. Last I heard only around 1/2 the money was ever received by beaups.
No one has been able to achieve S-Off with software on any M7 with 4.4.2 so I doubt anything is close on the M8.

jtag service. They need to take your phone apart, pass. I'm sure the Java card would work too but most are looking for a software exploit. Other methods are risky and mean your need to send you phone away. Unless you want to buy a 1200 Java card.

Sure, if you get someone upstanding. The java card method is not risky, it's sending your phone through the mail to a stranger and getting it back in 1 piece that is risky.
The only solution for the majority of users is a software exploit. That I think is a long way off. Just my opinion and hope I'm wrong..

Like I said...I hope we get s-off. I've just noticed a trend with myself...and I don't need root like I thought I "needed" it a few years back.
The only things I use root for is WiFi Tether, Titanium Backup and occasionally I like to flash CM...but I always find myself going back to and Sense.
Hopefully Beaups will hook it up. Cross your fingers and say a prayer if you believe in that sort of thing.
