For those who are experiencing Camera force close with Das BAMF 2.0-5, here's a fix for you... works for me.
My Sense 3.0 camcorder was crashing/FC after recording... but this fixed the problem.
This idea came into mind after crookshanks posted the HTCCamera.apk (v2.0): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14104147&postcount=27
I got the Sense 3.0 camera file from adrynalyne's Das BAMF 2.0-5 thread @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087617
...and extracted the HTCCamera.apk (v3.0) from the zip file and use Character Zero's tutorial to replace the current HTCCamera.apk.
Credit: Character Zero
I used Root File Explorer:
Go to downloads (or the file download location) and select Move or Copy
Go to system/app and in the top right side and click "Mount R/W"
Paste the item there
Scroll down and Long Press on HTCCamera.apk
Choose Permissions
Set the checkboxes as follows :
Owner : Read, Write
Group : Read
Others : Read
Hit OK.
Set the "Mount.." button at the top right to unmount.
Now you will not see Camera in the app drawer. Its ok.
Reboot.
Click to collapse
Here is the working, at least working for me, HTCCamera.apk 3.0: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NTZEQO80
Edit: Be sure to clear the Camera cache and Clear data, after you have installed this file, or else your recording is gonna look all whacky! (Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All->Scroll to Camera and select it->Clear data->Clear cache.
Keep in mind, your Camera setting will be restored to default, so if you like recording in 720p, don't forget to set it to 720p in the Camera setting!
dont work on gingeritis.
Thx a bunch for this! Works awesomely! Mmuuaahhh!!!

I don't think its possible, as you need root to install it and there is no option (That I know of) in Astro to obtain root for itself.
i mustve done something wrong because after following the instructions i still get force closures after im done recording
You set permissions correctly then rebooted?

trying this out now, thanks a lot.
If youre running imo's latest kernel you shouldn't be having camera issues.

yes I did, I rebooted my phone then I cleared cache from the camera app
how should I start all over? should I just go to where I placed it and delete it?
this worked to fix the force close issues. any way to fix the horrendous buzzing/hissing sounds?
Ive tried it twice... still doesnt work and still get force close... I dont understand... Copied it to the folder... set the permissions (although all the permissions were supposed to put were already checked on mine), restarted the phone cleared cache and data. go into camera and FC..
NOTE: like you said after you move it to the folder, the camera is suppose to be gone from the app drawer, mine never dissapears.
I've tried this with 2.1 and 3.0 camera apks. also tried updating in cwr from zips. i was able to record and just got fc when stopping, but vid would save... now i get fc when opening vid camera.
Any ideas?
BAMF 2.0-5
Sense 3.0 Pre4
MR2 Radio
I can't seem to record video in dasBAMF 2.0-5 (MR2 Radio) either. I get a force close. Might give this a try; I'm really hoping somebody comes up with a fix.
I had the same issues then downloaded 2.1 camera and renamed it to HTCCamera.apk and used root explorer and place it in the system/apps directory. Changed the permissions to match when the original post and rebooted the phone. Works great with no lag and I am not over clocked. Running bamf 2.0-5.
Works great, thanks

i doubt it will work, Camera.apk in GB and FROYO are completely different. Or atleast it is for now. If you replace stock Camera.apk in FROYO using TB of GB you get force close error and vice versa.

Well, I tried it on Froyo before reading the above posts and... it doesn't work.
BUT I have a small problem now: I backed up the original apk, and used Titanium Backup to backup the camera application again (to be safe). After trying out the new apk (and doing a reboot), I just replaced it with the original one, and rebooted again. Problem is that the system just doesn't recognize it. And Titanium Backup just hangs when restoring the app.
So, there is no icon, the app is not installed, and I can't use the camera now. Any ideas?
EDIT: If someone could post the original Froyo Camera.odex (and apk, to be safe), this would be great. I expect this to solve my problem.

:O Should just let TB restore App+data for camera o.o, Try a hardboot and see if you have that option not freezing up on you
@ Misledz: As I said, TB hangs when restoring => It doesn't restore the app. Rebooted many times, didn't fix it either.
But just learned that you can extract files from .rfs images, and did that for my firmware - camera is working again!

Camera is part of the Gallery apk. If you don't have a camera icon in your app drawer, try reflashing ROM and Gapps. If still not there, you might have to wipe and reflash (hopefully you wiped between CM9 and CM10).
ok i just flashed the newest CM10 rom
( wiped first ) ...
then flashed the included boot.img
and i still dont have the camera app
are u sure this rom even has a camera app ??
EDIT:
come to think of it
i might have flashed cm10 over cm9 without wiping ... hmm

I'm not sure how you managed that twice. When you say you wiped did you do a factory reset also through recovery? Factory reset wipe cache then wipe the dalvik cache then install the ROM. As fas as I know all cm10 builds for our device have a camera. Also if your taking pictures with a camera from the market what do you view them in since you don't have a gallery either?

running cm10
wiped - cache - davilik etc (through recovery)
flashed img
flashed rom
flashed gapps
taking pics with a separate app can be viewed in gallery
still same issue no default camera
This is not a ROM problem. You need to do a full wipe between ROMs, not just cache.

cm10 has a camera app. has to be a bad download or bad flash.

Sorry dude, we're all tapped out. Pretty sure you're the only one experiencing this, so you're going to have to find a solution on your own. In the meantime, try some Market camera apps...many are better than stock anyways. You can also find the MIUI app in the themes section which is pretty good.

I just installed the 4.2 apps zip from http://phandroid.com/2012/11/06/android-4-2-gapps-package-download/
and the camera keeps FCing on me. It will take 1 picture then freeze on that picture, and close and cant open it again, nor did the picture actually save. Ive tried to reinstalled other signed gapps zips and even upgraded on my CM10 nightly to the latest one but still nothing.
is there specific instructions to remove camera?
First, this is the development section, not the Q&A section. You'll probably get more help if you posted this in the right sub-forum.
Second, why didn't you make a nandroid before you flashed the apps zip?
You need to tap on the screen before you take the picture because auto focus is wacky. If you do that you can take multiple pictures without the camera app locking up.
It has been proven this is the work around for now.

Hey S4 users, I spared some time to work on theming the S4 camera with S8 themed and wanted to share this with all of you. This is V1 release, I will update when I have some free time.
Screenshot is in attached thumbnails
It's been tested working on MORPHOSE Nougat ROM V1 and V2, FirstFlight ROM, Ale95 ROM, WizCyan 4.1 and 5 ROM, PhoeniX Grace ROM and it's supposed to work on the rest of Touchwiz ROMs
Please do not take or use my files without my permission. If you want to include this on your ROM, just leave my name on credits
Instructions:
1. Delete SamsungCamera2 folder on root/system/app
2. Reboot to recovery and flash the zip
3. Go to settings -> applications -> clear app data & cache for camera
4. Launch camera and you're done
Please make a backup of your camera, just in case if something unexpected happens

I see, then I suppose it is a ROM issue since the original camera happens to be the same. Try to ask on FF post how to fix camera error after enabling location tag, tell them that you had clear app data and others.
