I had it served OTA perhaps a couple of months ago, its been that long I dont recall exactly when but my official firmware is 4.1.1 on the Nexus S.

I believe OP was referring to the ns4g ota update that was rumored to be out today

I've been checking for system updates constantly. Nothing drives me more insane than seeing that "Your system is up to date" when I check. I have yelled at my phone multiple times "NO, IT'S NOT!"

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but...you can't manually check for an update on this one. Sprint said that it will be pushed to your device when it's your turn. Which means...expect it some time later this week if you haven't gotten it already.

That's what we're waiting for. Without a doubt, there are people out there that have JB for their NS4Gs, but they wouldn't have any clue how to upload a zip, or wouldn't care for that matter. For them it's just a routine update, to iron out a bug or two. How many end users do you think even know what project butter is??? Probably just us.
Just make sure that if you get that update, to take your Logcat so someone on here can get the file from the URL.

I dunno man.... I think most people that still rock a Nexus S is this community. I only know one other person who has a Nexus S... And he's a very techie kinda guy. Most everyone else upgraded a while ago... And they're still jealous of my old phone with its speed on jb.

Guys you can give it a break for today. 12 am start checking. Its going to be 4 days gnex 4 days ns4g and that's till the 13th, an 8 day period. That's why gnex users got the links out so fast. So get ready for Monday. Enjoy some football in the meantime.

Whats weird is yesterday early morning I looked for a update and it said it there was but then I had to take a phone , lost signal and it never came up again.
Yesterday Slayher tweeted that the next tb rom fixes all known, root exploits. I would guess that for him to say something as a matter of fact like that would indicate someone has a leak and that it's already confirmed to be true.

Polite answer - if you're getting impatient try the ICS Alpha ROMs
No one knows when the official OTA is going to come out exactly, so be patient or try out the Alphas...

so according to his twitter feed the samsung servers are giving information about ICS, he isnt answering questions though or getting into details, kind of disappointing
Well the Nexus is out now, so it shouldn't be too long. Sometime before Xmas I would imagine.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
back when i had an x10 there was a website that would show firmwares being uploaded by sony ericsson for ota updates. They were usually available within a few days, so im hoping its the same case here.
Let us wait for OTA... Now I am enjoying with Kwiboo's ICS V3...
I am thinking 1st to 2nd week of December. I think Google and Samsung wants to release the Galaxy Nexus first in the US before they update the Nexus S.

It's for sure they'll hold back any OTA update until the U.S. release of the Galaxy Nexus. But I want it as soon as possible! I don't understand why some people flash ICS roms with no wifi for example, when the official update is so close.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Why is it for sure? Unless you have inside info that nobody else does. Besides the US release of the Nexus won't impact sales any because the nexus s isn't on Verizon anyways.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
before we know that, we'll probably have to know when GNex is gonna be release in USA

Ok, even if everything is working just fine, it doesn't really mean it doesn't have some problems. That's why an official update is better than an "alpha"/"beta" rom.
Besides, this is the reason why you buy a Nexus S in the first place, for updates. After the OTA, it's custom rom all the way
EDIT: @Jeff Dunn: almost forgot, it makes sense to release the update AFTER the phone that is supposed to be the new android flagship. And it doesn't matter that the Nexus S isn't available on verizon. You know, there are other countries outside the US... but nevermind.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
But it has been released outside the US already. Which kinda invalidates your point. Regardless though we will see it when we see it. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

How long would it take?

I am questioning myself how long Google would work on the final ICS update for the GSM Nexus S.
I hope between a few days and a week...
What do you think how long it would take?

Well, NS is just not important anymore to Google. So it's not surprising they're not investing more time and money in it.
Probably a stable version will come, sometimes towards the end of the month. Your guess is as good as mine.

Lol yeah that's true, just after all the irritated people finding their sgs3 with an encrypted bootloader makes me nervous of Verizon.
Sent from PhoneRom (ThunderShed)
It would be kind of stupid to encrypt a bootloader that hasn't been but verizon could possibly have them do it.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
I doubt you'll see it here. I think the real reason for the delay, is that this phone is over a year old. That's like 83 in cellphone years. Also, htc is no longer making money on this phone.
I just hope we even get the update at all. I guess we might, now that jellybean is coming out. That way we'll be acceptably behind in OS releases, just like we've always been.

Not surprising. They have to take it apart and add all their bs to it before they send it out. At least we know htc is finished so maybe verizon won't take too long.

No Official JB Update for Verizon S3 Coming! Woah, that was close!

So Samsung offically announced the US devices getting JB and while reading the article is says it is coming to the Galaxy S3 on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular. I was like WHAAAAAAAAT!
Then when you scroll down to the chart, is has the Verzion S3 JB update also listed as coming soon. Man, a typo like that can give someone a heart attack.
