I'm busy setting up an Android tablet solution in the high school that I work at and was wondering if anyone knows of an ICS emulator which will run on Windows 7 which doesn't use the SDK.
It will need to be easily installed by learners simply by running a .exe and will need to be able to run .apk files.
If it doesn't exist, is anyone up to the challenge?
Never mind, I've found BlueStacks which looks like it should do the job

How do i get the unlocked emulator for visual studios 2010
what i've done so far:
downloaded WM70C1.zip
i tried to uzip it but my computer won't
so then i tried to rename it to .bin and placed it im my sdk images folder and renamed the old image WM70C1_old.bin but that didn't work.
did i download the wrong thing?
i've been working from this article http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2010/03...-emulator-download-the-unlocked-bin-file.html
has anybody else tried it the same way and it worked?
what are some other methods of running the winmo 7 emulator?
thank you for your time and response
Lets pretend you have a working setup of the developer tools for running a Windows Phone 7 application from Visual Studio 2010 or Expression Blend 4, and just need to replace the emulator.
If you downloaded the emulator from the said link you get a 72.2 MB zip file called WM70Full.zip which you have to unpack, and then you'll have a 75 MB file called WM70Full.bin
This you copy to the following path (for 64-bit users, else change the program files path): C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\WindowsPhone\v7.0\Emulation\Images
And then run your project from Visual Studio, or Expression Blend. It should now be using the unlocked emulator.
Just did it on my laptop a minute ago, and it works as expected. (I used Expression Blend to test it with). Proof: unlockedemu.png
I should perhaps add the unlocked emulator is even slower at starting up, so I wouldn't recommend using it for active development, unless you have a really really good reason to do so. Also remember the emulator is horrible slow if your computer don't support hardware visualization.
When you figured out how to make the above work, I'll recommend you to get the April release of the emulator, it's a bit newer, and have some more features you can play with.
well i guess the data corrupted last time, so i downloaded WM70FULL.zip again and followed the direction and it works fine. and your right, its ridiculous slow, but i didn't plan on developing apps i just wanted to play with it (although not much is even there to look at) thanks for the quick response
Download the April release then. (not sure if you saw my post update)
But yes, renaming a zip-package to .bin won't work very well ;-)
awsome! i'm downloading it now. i probably should have searched a little harder before posting. thanks again to your contributions
Im just wondering, what if android ran in a virtual pc on a desktop computer, but not like it does now. It ran, but was never seen! Download a android app, and run it like it was native to your os, but no android window, no slowdowns, and no resource wasting!
Is this possible? Its kinda like vmware fusion... but better! so?
Hello,
I`ve searched over the net for an alternative to run windows apps on android. But, not so lucky so far ...
I don`t need a virtual machine (it would be nice ), just an emulator or something to run my favorite app my Tab 7.7.
You guys, have any ideeas?
Or, how about virtual desktop?
Hello,
Is there anyone able to run AirDroid on Androidx86? I have an Android VM but it doesn't seem to have network/wifi adapter but android is able to connect to internet. So AirDroid doesn't start and give the connection address.
Let me explain my situation detailed, maybe there is something else I can do to achieve my goal.
I have a few custom applications, they don't have any Windows/Linux/MAC versions. I need to run them on my PC (can be either Windows or Linux). I will need to copy/paste text bidirectionally, Androidx86 can not handle copy/paste as it runs on VirtualBox and there is no VBox Tools for android.
I found AirDroid today and at first I was very happy since I have been looking for such a way for weeks, and for me this solution is quite important.
Thanks.
Ok, first off I will apologize for being so new to all of this and not really knowing much about the process as a whole.
Here is what I am trying to accomplish:
I would like to be able to play the original Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe on my Shield Tablet and have it run decently stable.
I'm not sure where to go from there. I know nothing will be 100% flawlessly perfect, but I'll take what I can get and try to work out the kinks later. I would assume I would need some form of a windows environment that would include the ability to mount an .ISO file to the CD-ROM. The game requires the CD in order to run, (and yes I do own the game and have a copy of my CD).
I have tried searching, but have not really come across anything that seems to be able to point me in the right direction.
I feel like I'm fairly tech savy, but I have little to no experience with Linux/Android. But if anyone has any suggestions as to a starting point, I will be more than happy to start down the rabbit hole from there.
Thanks again in advance for any help anyone can provide.
Hi
I'm already try to start Windows too on the shield.
actually i can start the Setup but after or on time the "machinecheck" is running on Windows 2k, or XP it's freezing..
Windows Vista, 7 or 8 let the device Crash directly..
but you Need to root your device without it wouldn^t work..
I'm Right, that you try to run Windows or?
-> You Need to run 32bit Systems!

I have been able to get a heavily modified Windows 95 to work through DosBox Turbo. It is the one used in the Fallout tutorial. I did get Roller Coaster Tycoon to install and load and play using the version that includes Daemon Tools, but it is too unstable. It will play, but crash after about 10-15 mins. I was hoping to find an alternate solution that would be a bit more stable.
Also, I did get a Win 98 environment up and running using the Limbo PC emulator through QEMU. It is a little slower than I would like, but again, I could mount the Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe ISO file and install it. However, I can not launch the game, because Win 98 will only run in 16 color mode. I'm not sure how to configure QEMU so that it will recognize the display, and at least do 256 colors.
