HTC Evo Shift Keyboard Problems - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well ever since I got my HTC Evo Shift used I've had the keyboard slide very hard and my friends slides smoothly but mine doesn't, any ideas on how to get this to work smoother? Thanks!

Usually from what I've found it's just a matter of them wearing in.

Or being dropped, I got a doubleshot that's going in the mail today that just came back from HTC and its omg so smooth. Mine on the other hand has been dropped about 80 times, and is tough as nails.

Oh... OK thanks to replies

Another thought is...perhaps you still have the protective stickers on the unit?
sometimes those can cause drag.

I took the sticker off then it scratched the back oddly .. I took the sticker off when I first got it and now it makes like a scratching noise when shut... and before it closes completely it makes a clicking noise

Mine had more issues closing once I put on an Otterbox, wore in after a while, I don't get the scratching noise though.

My shift has those same scratches on the back. It slides smoothly now. Dunno what happened. My dads phone gets hard to slide when grains of sand get in there.
Edit: neither of our phones have ever had cases.

I use the sedio active htc evo shift case..best and most gorgeous case ever. Slick, and form fit..better protection than the otterbox imo. no offense *g
Comes in multiple colors. I went for the sapphire blue..it matches the awesome color the shift is; it is one of the things I had appreciated about the shift when I purchased it.
Worth looking into for any efficient auto out there. !

It will do the job! I have yet to drop a phone when it's in an otterbox. Now take it out and I swear I wind up dropping it, then kicking it across the floor. I just want to be able to keep it on my side. I plan on getting a siedo case later. If this holds up, may not need to.

I thought about doing that but money tight a couple good drops and case toast

Actually I did the cut out on that same tpu cover you got. The case is still pretty sturdy. Waste high drop no problem. The rubber is taking the beating. All what you prefer though. And if ya mess up otterbox will send you a new one if you tell them the clips holding it together broke. Just s suggestion though.

nice ingenuity. you could have heated the edges of the plastic and pressed the cover over the battery to keep the strength and protection too.

Just so everyone knows! I just drop kicked my tb across the room cuz I couldn't make a call! Still works like new. Service went down and I thought my tb took a dump. I love this phone!!!
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
Uh you could all save yourself alot of time and money and just get the Trident Electra case. I have literally drop kicked my phone just to show a friend of mine how good this case is. And it comes with an extended battery so you will have another.
Just curious....what did you use to cut them? I'm thinking of using a coping saw, but wish I still had my dremel.
Ah I heated up a flat blade screwdriver with a bic lighter soldering iron I had was not heating up
Then I cut the screwed up plastic slag with side cutters

Qmadix holster

Anyone try this case n holster out?
Thanks
Sent from my A500 flexstriker using XDA Premium
Yup. I have it and like it.
Sent from my AT100 using xda premium
Does it stay tight in the holster I noticed there isn't really a Clip or anything to lock the phone into the holster like on an otterbox one... I detail cars and am constantly moving and bending in weird positions and if I bump it don't want it flying out.
Thanks
Sent from my INFUSE powered by ZEUS
Stays perfectly still. Its a very firm fit and the bottom lip helps keep it from being accidentally pushed out. I have yet to have it pushed out of the holster.

Flip Case (like the gs3)?

Is there such a thing for the skyrocket? There's an awesome case for the gs3 that replaces the back and has a slim flip cover, personally I would love it for my skyrocket T_T would kinda mitigate the need for a screen protector?
I also found the Argos leather cases but I'm not 100% sold on those yet...
I too am curious about this
Now this would be great for our SRs. I'm also interested if they exist.

My gf has one on the note 2. It sucks and gets in the way of camera, video, and general phone operations. You definitely don't want one, it sucks big time.

There are some great ones on eBay if you search for "s2 skyrocket wallet" (or something similar to that). I've got a Hercules, but I ordered an awesome skyrocket flip case. I should get it soon! Hope you can find one you like

I think it could. I ordered a rubber case for the t989 that I can glue or attach somehow. Also cutting a spot for the speaker on the back with a box cutter. It should work!

Call echoing with every case I put on

Before I upgraded to ICS, call echoing would not exist. Now, whenever I call someone they complain about an echo unless I take the phone out of the case. I have tried an Otterbox, two different Casemate Pop cases and a silicone case, all with the same issue. I am on stock everything. Any fixes?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
You might try a really thin TPU case. You can find some good-quality ones for ~$10 on Amazon. I got a decent (but thick) TPU from Amazon for $3 a few weeks back. If it really just doesn't work and it's definitely the case causing it, maybe try something like Ghost Armor?

I can't see how the only fix is to root. It simply doesn't make sense to me. It's like telling someone to bring 10 buckets of water to put out a lit match.

Well if its on stock and you have played with settings either cut a bigger hole in the case for the mic or root

Bigger hole. That's actually a good suggestion. I've got a couple of these case mates lying around so I'll give it a try.

Why the objection to rooting? A few tweaks or a custom ROM might fix you right up. Otherwise, yeah, try that Ghost Armor stuff, cut a bigger hole in the case or learn to live with it. Returning to stock is easy, and flash counters can be reset...

Multiple reasons.
1) I'm too intimidated by reports of people getting bricked and having to factory reset
2) This is my only android device plus my only means of contact so I'm not willing to even experiment with something I don't know
These may seem like stupid reasons because everyone here is a root user, but I'm someone who usually manages to mess up every piece of technology I touch, either software or hardware wise. I've had this phone for 6 months without even one scratch on the screen, so I'm doing surprisingly well by my standards.

I'm on stock ICS rooted and I get the same issue but only when i'm on speaker phone and my case is a Otterbox defender.
I haven't tried any other case because I haven't seen any with a belt clip as yet.

I noticed that when I partially cover the bottom mic with the case off I get the echo. So I'm gonna take illnevertell's advice and cut a larger hole for the mic.
