the steps in the link above did not work.... any one have any other suggestions?
Yo I got root access on my vortex with 2.2.1 used superoneclick with rageagainstthecage exploit. Clicked shell root first, then clicked root. Worked for me good luck!
That worked for my wife's but then I got one and it isn't working that way at all. Tried to downgrade, and i get a version error.
I actually put together a downgrading tutorial to fix some of the technicalities not mentioned in some of the other ones. Let me know if that helps anyone out.

(I can't post links yet, but I feel like this may help you guys)
I was able to get root on my wife's Vortex, which has the 2.2.1 OTA, by manually pushing psneuter to /data/local/tmp then pushing su,busybox,Superuser.apk to /system.
It's a manual method but works very well.
NO MORE CITY ID
ROOT 2.2.2
Gingerbreak roots the Vortex 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 painlessly no downgrade necessary.
Hey everyone, im having a problem with visionary. I am following unlockrs guide to perm root my mytouch 4g well i have done that but when i reboot the phone it doesnt say s-off is says s-on, I did everything like he said idk what could be wrong ccan someone help me with this. I new at this.
Thanks in advance.
Go into the HTC Glacier (MT4G) forum then into the android development section. The very first post at the top is a guide to rooting using the gfree method. I have rooted 4 MT4G's with this thread, including one about 12 hours ago. At the end of the thread, it gives you instructions on how to flash the engineering bootloader. This is HIGHLY recommended as it makes it easier to recover from a soft brick. To flash using this method you need to use adb. There is a 5 minute video (link is in the thread) that will give you enough knowledge to be able to do this. The first time I ever rooted a phone or used adb was with this phone using this thread, and I was fine.

For 2.3.3 stock, the hack kit is pretty much the only game in town.

so i've read so many forums, done everything i can, every method, but to no avail; im still not able to root my htc raider. the most recent forum i came across, which supposedly the simplest and easiest method to root my phone, is this " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003 " i thought the video was supposedly a step by step tutorial, but not as much as i expected it to be. because of my previous attempt before using this toolkit, i was only able to unlock the bootloader, so i skiped the part were u have to do it. i went straight to flashing the cwm and was successful. with that, i was able to use backup/restore. then i went to permroot and all i got from the command promt was adb stuff out of date. i thought maybe i have to flash my kernel so i did. but then i got stock on the htc logo. can anyone plz help me

Hi!
I'm a total noob and I was wondering if I could get some assistance. I'm trying to root my old MyTouch 4G/HTC Glacier, just so I can play around with it and learn a few things. I'm using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996 and I did not get very far, I'm stuck on step 7. when I execute 'su' the terminal tells me 'su: not found'
I have managed a temp root through this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 and downgraded back to 2.2, but could never gain root access on my device's terminal, only through my PC. I aslo could not backup using Titanium Backup. Every other attempt/method has failed. My goal is a perma root and I've been at it for days, and am growing very impatient. Pretty close to throwing all computers out the window. This is not something I want to give up on, PLEASE ASSIST!!! :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:
Let me know if more info is needed before this can be helped.
Thank you,
Anthony
