Hi all,
I want to use android, but the wave has camera flash and the same hardware as the galaxy s. Will it be possible to port android to wave easily? And is it likely that someone will do that in the future, since I can't do it myself?
Thanks in advance
anyone can help?
I do not think android will be ported to Wave.
damnd
i too am curious if ther are any devs out there who might want to droid the wave.
gotta say, i did look at the s8500 (wave) and hardware specs totally confirm: i want it.
but i refuse bada. I want android.
Yes, the galaxy s is the other choice with nearly the same hardware... but the price!!
Samsung galaxy s: 499€
Samsung Wave : 305€
that is nearly 200€ extra for a phone with the same specs, no cam light and android.
i kinda refuse to pay that.
sorry samsung, you loose.
(ps: with 10% of the money saved on the wave we could maybe get a dev to do this? )
Me also
I would pay 10% of the money I saved, the galaxy s is to big

You think someone will spend 50+ hours to port android to Wave for 20 Euro?

is it pessimism or arrogance that makes you say that?
ehw, doesn't matter to me anyways.
considering i'm _not_ the only one who'd be ready to give a little cash for a port, there might very well be more than 20€ in it.
But as most of the people in this forum do this stuff for free, why the hell would 20€ and some definite fame (and love by me) not encourage someone to do it?
Aaaand who sais it will take 50+hrs? that is definitely plain pessimistic!
i dont mean to hurt any feelings or anything, but you really dont see any "android ports" that actually work... and if i hear someone use the word droid one more time without making referance to 1 of the 3 android phones verizon offers, im going to shoot myself.. back on topic though, andoid isnt about making it work were it shouldnt. its about making it work earlier than sprint verizon htc motorola etc etc want it working. ;]

umad?
'droid (yeah, i did it, please go ahead ) is an open source system pretty closely related to linux/unix afaik (might be wrong there, but what i seen from filestructure etc...)
sooo why do people install linux/unix on their coffeemaker, washing machine or mobile phone?
because they can!
...but if i'm wrong about the purpose of android related discussions on xda-devs and you Sir are correct about just beeing ahead of the game of vendors, i sincierly apologize and will go buy an iphone now. -.-
not.
Samsung Wave with Android
Hi Folks,
In a good month time I´m also in the line with a new phone.
I´m also currently in love with the Hardware and Size of the Samsung Wave but personaly don´t like the current SW status of Bada.
So if there is someone out there willing to port Android to it I´m also willing to sponsor my 10% as zerthrymr.
I believe there are quite a few people out there that might join so the programmer should break even soon with the time spend.

Those are just emulations. It isn't really Android running on the device.
Bada can do themes! I think the platform is good enough to code some cool theme for it. Anyways, i have a wave now and i didn't pay a single cent for it. Samsung just gave it to meee
Hi all!
I would like to join to sponsoring desire of porting Android to Samsung wave.
Very very like specification of this device
Just get a Galaxy S or something, instead of wasting your time trying to port an OS.
Dude not everyone likes the Galaxy S and the Wave has a one of a kind look. Its just posting to a forum, so I don't see much time being wasted. Samsung or HTC or whoever will come out with something new in a few months anyways so we don't have to settle for the Galaxy S, but in the meantime it doesn't hurt to ask for possible options for the only IMHO non-ugly smartphone.
ive got a galaxy and would even put 20 bucks on the porting android wave.
Count me in too! I will also donate to the creation of porting Android to the Samsung Wave.
i'll donate to have android on wave
Well looks like this aint gonna happen, which sucks. Anyone want to buy a cheap Samsung Wave? I'm going to go get a HTC Evo!
Hello Guys...
Just got the Samsung Wave - and I must say what a great little phone it is - shame about some of the software (like the customisation that local phone providers have done - really slows the phone down - even to the pointof crashing it because their applications are not stable - Take note T-mobile in the UK).
The Bada system is not that bad - still in its beginings - but it is an Open system running on a Linux kernal - and its on par with Android (ok not as popular), but still good.
Since both the Galaxy S and Wave are running the same hardware- it should be possible to flash the Wave with the Android firmware designed for the Galaxy. I have not delved inot this much -so any comments from experienced developers would be welcomed - but to be honest I don;t see a problem with loading the Galaxy S firmware onto the Wave.

I was perfectly ready to leave the Android platform for WP7. Either for a Nokia Lumia 900 or HTC Titan II.
But with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3, I'm kinda being lured back to Android.
Anyone in this kind of predicament? And if so... Any advice?
I'm currently using a HTC Desire. But by now it's very outdated, slow and likes to crash lately.
I really like the design of WP7 but I think it's no alternative to Android. Just think about the possibilities to customize ur system. I really need something new once in a while.
But the design of the SGS3 does not really satisfy me. I really don't like these plastic cases...
IMHO if you were about to jump ship the GS3 shouldn't really make you change your mind. It's definitely not a game changer. Sure it's a good phone, but if I still had my GS2 I wouldn't upgrade yet. If I'll ever go back to Android it will be for no less than a Cortex-a15 and an edge to edge SAMOLED+ HD. If I were you I'd get a Lumia 900 while I wait for the GS4, or even for the iPhone 5 or 6. At least you'll have the chance to try WP for a good while, and if you like it you may also consider getting an Apollo device when they come out. I'm very likely to go for this option, I've been pretty happy with WP7 in the last 5 months. No matter how hard I try, I can't really keep a phone for more than a year, I get bored easily I guess

Its not always about being able to customize your phone. Sometimes its just about being able to USE your phone. I must be getting old because working on android is starting to get boring. Is the Beta test over? I think when people say customize what they are really saying is updating to the latest version of Android because the manufactures aren't doing it. Why should we have to do something that is somewhat expected of the phone manufactures? I'm still waiting on official ICS for my Xoom and Rezound. One thing you can say about WP and iPhone when an update comes out EVERYONE gets it at the same time, not when a phone manufacturer gets to it. That is really starting to get old for me. Maybe I should go back to the old flip phones they never needed updates..
just my 2 cents.. (who cares right?)
Just purchase a used GS2, you have a Desire and you may keep your next device for a long time.

Honestly I don't mind "forcing" an update from time to time. Also, people should start to understand that once that a new version of the software comes out your phone won't brick itself. I mean, if I had an ICS device now I probably won't give a damn about JB when it comes out. ICS is pretty much a full experience, JB will definitely be a minor update, like 2.2 to 2.3. Anyway I must say that I feel pretty much like you. Toying with the phone all day can be fun for a while, but once you're not a teen with nothing to do anymore you may wanna have a phone that just works with no gimmicks. That's why I'm happy with WP7 now. I'm still a nerd tho, don't get me wrong: I'm getting an Android tablet as soon as a good one comes out (Exynos quad please), but basically just for fun. As to my PHONE it's all a different kind of business right now, if you get what I mean

Lots of truth. And with that in mind, I might be tempted to move to iOS or WP7.
But, although I don't live to flash new ROM's all the time or customizing the phone constantly, I do have my phone customized just the way I want it and the way it is most useful to me. This includes, having a custom ICS ROM (I tried 2, settled on one and haven't moved for months, except for updates which are OTA and pretty simple). I don't think I could get either iOS or WP7 (probably mostly because of the lack of some of the apps I have on Android) to behave the way I want them to.
In the case of iOS I speak out of current personal experience. My personal phone is a SGS with ICS. The company I work with gave us iPhones. It's a pain in the ass to use that thing. Simple things such as turning stuff on or off, and the notifications are a joke. Lack of widgets is another weak point for iPhone, among many, many other things. The only really strong point is the camer which takes great pictures. But I end up taking them with my SGS because getting them off the iPhone is another goddamned chore.
I can't begin to count the times when I was doing something on the damn iPhone that takes me a zillion finger taps and thinking "this would be so simple on my SGS with a widget or shortcut or w/e".
In my case it's not really about customization for customization's sake. it's about productivity and, like someone said, being able to use the phone in a simple way. The phone adapts to the way I think, not the other way around.
The GS2 is one step forward and three steps back. It won't be as smooth, as good looking, or as user friendly as WP7, I guarantee that.
i will still go for a S2, and with the S3, S2 price will definitely drop.
the rom community for S2 is pretty awesome too, so yeah another plus point
I find the iPhone bland and screen has washed out colours. Ppi doesn't make a huge difference

Yeah, Microsoft must improve the worldwide support, here in Italy Bing is "beta", and doesn't really work well, so we're stuck with beta software. God, they should at least give us the option to change the default search engine, being forced to use a third party app just to "google" for something is pretty lame.

I believe you should stick to android but SGIII shouldn't be the phone that brings you back. Plastic is a pretty bad material
I'd wait for the price drop and get a SG2. It's a great phone and there's a lot of great ROMs out there.
I bought an Omnia W and kept it for 3 days. Hated it. All of it!
Returned it to the store and got my self a 1 month used SG2... couldn't be happier!

Plastic is more durable than metal or any other material. Take a galaxy s2 and an iPhone and drop them at shoulder height. The galaxy s2 will have a little dent in the plastic. The iPhone would be completely shattered

You may also consider the Gnex actually. Right now you can find it at a lower price compared to the GS2: here in Italy I can find it online for 359€, pretty good considering that the GS2 can't be found for less than 400€, and it's kind of a more "dated" device...

I'm not sure which one to get android is my favorite but every note 10.1 i try is laggy and stutters. I never owned a iPad but i tried it at best buy and it felt so smooth and fast and the screen was awesome except the screen shape. Does any one own both to tell me your opinion about speed and every day use.

I have to admit that the note 10.1 ICS is laggy but, the jelly bean update is coming and it's pretty fast, no more lag or stutter. Sorry but this tablet with jelly bean version will be way better than the ipad 4. The pen and multitasking on the tablet is amazing. Im sick of ipad. Just got rid of my ipad 3 and got new note 10.1 and i'm loving it. We are still waiting for Jelly bean update to come.
My Note 10.1 doesn't lag at all on ICS. Though the JC update should have some performance improvements. Some people have already gotten the JB update, but my device (N8010) hasn't yet.

Yeh, I have to admit I didnt notice any lag on ICS either. Though I came from an ipad1, so maybe thats why!
I'm on a JB rom at the moment (I have an 8010, using an 8000 rom) and it still seems smooth.
Have to say, the reason I got the note was because of the wacom digitiser. If you aren't going to make good use out of it, then the choice would be between the iPad4 or the Nexus10.
If you want to make use of the pressure sensitivity, then the iPad4 is going to be of no use to you.
So depending on what you want to use the tablet for... I'd say your choice should really be between the Nexus or the Note.
drawing
If you enjoy using drawing of any kind I can't reccomend this pad enough. There are a few apps that give professional level art programs. My favorite being tvpainter. They have a free beta that lasts till February. And the fact that wacom helped make the screen was more than enough reason for me to make my decision.
I'm still not sure , the only time I'm going to use the pen is for notes and editing pics. I'm mostly going to browse the web and watch and upload YouTube videos. My brother has the nexus 10 and it not for me the screen is nice but that's about it. I don't like apple but i like how they have lots of apps optimized for tablets when android app are just scaled up phone apps

If you need to take handwritten notes then you have to get the Note. Otherwise the iPad is a better option.
Again, it's how you use it. Apple is a locked down system. You can only use it to Apples stringent rules... Sure you can jailbreak but then you have to wait for someone to JB the next update or get left behind...
Note 10.1, and Android in general, allows you the option of rooting fairly easily. You can control what you want and how you use it, plug those pesky security risks, and don't kid yourself Apple has them too, and change the ui to what you want. It allows you to put what you need where and make the device yours... Apple is a sterile hospital room in comparison..
I don't know why any tabs you used were stuttery, my experience with the note, ICS and JB, has been fantastic. You need to remember that the demo models in stores are subject to people playing around with them and maxing out the ram usage. Also I know that the stores also load their own app(s) onto the demo models which may cause issues.
ICS was great, JB is phenomenol. I have a 32gb 3G version. I use a 64gb sd card, that's a combined total of 96gb.. Transferring Apps, movies, music and pictures onto the note doesn't require specialised software that has a new update every 2days.
S-pen works wonders, not an artist but I find the s-pen easier to use than the onscreen keyboard. Use handwriting for everything.
And finally, the biggest plus for me was the fact I can make and receive phone calls.... Not using skype or any other 3rd party app but dialling out using my carrier. Not reliant on wifi. I use the bluetooth stylus as its easier to have on me than a headset and I hate sharing my private conversation with the world.....
I have never liked Apple as it is a closed system and there may be an advantage or 2 for that sort of app developement but I can't complain about the apps for Android. You can generally find the same or an equivalent app on Android that you use on IOS.
Essentially the decision is yours, If you are leaning towards Apple, go with it as that's your preference, I don't care as I don't have to live with your decision and you need to go with what you want...
I tried out a note 10.1 in PC world before I bought it. I must have gone in to the store a dozen times, each time the device was extremely laggy and stuttery. I assumed it was because the store devices have demo mode running all the time, plus there were so many apps running that weren't closed down. I got so frustrated in store with the lagyness. But I bought one and it couldn't be more different.....it is really smooth. so it must have been all the crap the store version had running.

If you're an 'appy' type of guy and want everything to 'just work', pick the iPad 4. But if you're the 'tinker' guy and will find the S-pen useful, of course the Note 10.1 will suit you.
Generally though, iOS is smoother than Android, even with Jelly Bean. This comes from a previous iPad owner, now a Note 10.1 owner. I still kind of miss the iPad. If only the apps on Android tablets are as great as on iOS, then I will not miss it anyway.
Just my 2 cents!

What are the differences between Android tablets (for obvious reasons, we're talking about hardware and tablets of the same family (eg. Tab > Tab 2, TF101 > TF201 > TF300 > TF700))?
Faster/more powerful CPU? More powerful GPU? More RAM? Better camera? Better quality screen? The newer versions of iPads always have some sort of upgrade, hence why people actually upgrade their device. I'm not trying to start a flame-war, but it's clear to me that you're completely ignorant to all things Apple. So my suggestion for you is to stop talking about things that you know nothing about. If you're going to ignore everything about something, you might as well forget that it exists.
Its not only the hardware that's the same with Apple.... IOS promises a host of new features but all it really delivers is a slight improvement, usually a feature that's been available on Android for a few revisions... And this is called "Innovation" whereas Android is then accused of stealing a feature that has been available for a long time....
I don't mind the constant law suits so much as it does push new features and designs out by the companies who probably would rest on their laurels like Apple... However, Apple seems to push the fact that they came up with the idea, they then patent stuff that should have been laughed out of the patent office - really, a rectangular body with rounded corners? I had a Phillips Fizz long before the Iphone ever surfaced and that describes it exactly....
I'm sorry but I thought Innovation and stagnation had 2 different meanings but according to the Apple dictionary they are the same word...

I'm not arguing that everything Apple does is innovative or revolutionary. I just find it stupid for people, like jojo1419, to say that all iPads are the same. If people actually believe that iPad 1 = iPad 4, then wow, that's ignorance at its finest, folks.
And yes, Android does have features that iOS is missing, but one thing I LOVED about my iPad was that apps were actually made for the iPad. I love my Note 10.1, but it's irritating to download an app, expect a nice tablet-friendly experience, and seeing an over-sized mobile UI. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the huge amount of tablet-friendly apps in Apple's App Store and should lower my expectations of apps from the Google Play Store.

I guess you would have to look at the apps you use and think about whether or not you'd care..?
For me, the things I do on my tablet include (but is not limited to because I may forget things):
-web browsing
-redditing
-note taking
-drawing (I suck at this one, but I like doing it )
-reading (pdfs, ebooks, etc.)
-doing homework sets (physics problems in lecture notes)
-watching stuff (like NetFlix because my desktop uses linux)
The only thing I wish Android apps had was an easy way to connect your tablet to mathematica on your computer or something. I don't want to pay Wolfram any more than I have to so I don't want to buy time on his f*cking servers by using WolframAlpha..
Anyway, my point was that, there is no point here where I would consider Apple to have better "tablet" apps than Android. Mostly because the one thing that MAY be better would be "note apps" except those note apps are usually limited to text or stupid **** that don't apply to the way I want to take notes. But yeah, sure, I guess there are better optimized Angry Birds in the Apple store..?
I agree, alot of people here are total fanboys. Apple may not be the most innovative company, but there innovations are numerous compared to Samsung. For starters maybe the note 10.1 would not even exist if it wasn't for the innovations apple made in the early 90's with the development of the Apple Newton.

I agree wholeheartedly that Apple got the ball rolling and keep it rolling with their idiotic lawsuits however, Apple as a whole has reached a state of stagnation...
They are slow to add extra features into their hardware and software, are limited in a lot of ways with their software and lock everything down. They are all about control, you do it Apples way or no way. Itunes is a mongrel thing to have to use, and no support for video files except mp4.... Waste of time converting EVERYTHING in my library...
The fact they now, for the iphone 5, decided to change the connector to something that doesn't support the old accessories is a bit of a slap in the face for their loyal customers, at least they could have included an adaptor in the box...
If it had of been to the mini usb like most companies have decided should be the standard for mobile phones, fair enough but it is another proprietry connection...
I know samsung use a different USB 30 pin connector for their tabs but all the phones, tablets weren't included in the agreement, have got the standard mini usb adaptor...
Lets be totally clear here, Apple cornered the market, updated a few things then sat on their laurels until their martket was being threatened by a competitor. They then did a kneejerk reaction and a quick catchup that was still behind the competitor but followed that up with a marketing blitz that wa phenominol to make people believe that they are "Innovative" and that everyone else wasn't. When that seemed to be failing them they decided to slam the competition with frivolous lawsuits for patents that were obviously a massive waste of time...
The last win they had did them more harm than good as they pointed out that the competition was essentially selling the same thing for a lot cheaper and their bottom line will continue to drop now this has been divulged.
I personally know a hard core Apple fanboy who has crossed to the darkside, his girlfriend now has an SGS3 and he went the way of Windows 8 phone... Apple is shooting themselves in the foot by lagging behind in the software and hardware that the consumers want.

I personally know a hard core Apple fanboy who has crossed to the darkside, his girlfriend now has an SGS3 and he went the way of Windows 8 phone... Apple is shooting themselves in the foot by lagging behind in the software and hardware that the consumers want.

Gonna go ahead and play devil's advocate:
Connector: They had the same connector for a DECADE. Micro USB is fiddly and aren't any docks for it because there's no standard so you need *gasp* a proprietary dock for you exact handset! With Apple you could have bought a dock for your iPod 5 years ago and it would still work with your iPhone 4 with the adapter Apple includes with the phone! Can you say that about anything non-Apple? It was time to change the connector and it's nice, and can be used across it's whole ecosystem which is dope. I have a Galaxy Nexus and a Galaxy Note 10.1, I can't purchase a dock for either because Samsung refused to bring them to Canada. I'd have to pay $180 for the Note 10.1 dock from South Korea (including shipping / tariffs / customs) and $90 for the gnex landscape dock. HILARIOUS.
Lawsuit: they won, period. There was written proof that Samsung copied the iPhone. Like everyone else copied the retina display. Like everyone else copied the whole iPad-esque tablet. You think you would have a Nexus 10 without the original iPad? You think you'd have a good smartphone? All-in One PCs? Ultrabooks? These product types always seem to become popular soon after Apple has come out with it. Note that I did not say they were the first to make that type of product, only that other companies seem to get the balls to make sexy stuff right after Apple popularizes it.
Hi Guys,
i just bought the Gear 2 a couple of days ago.
its a nice device, good hardware but bad software.
2 days later i saw The Gear Live with Android Wear and Google Now! on Google I/O,
Somehow i feel ripped-Off by Samsung.
the S Voice is really bad Compared to Google Now!
If you feel the same. And want to see Android Wear Ported to the Gear 2 please leave a Vote And Reply.
How many thread have to be made and clutter this section . Read before you post it's a rule. You bought it 2 days ago then you can take it back . And buy the gear live . Simple . I mean it's only been a day since wear was announced. In 2 days you haven't had time to experience tizen your just following everyone else who complain about it. Tizen is a good OS . Not for everyone but is good. I myself wouldn't mind wear but in good time .

That's a pretty ridiculous statement. How old are you? Android Wear was announced months ago and it has also been published in many media circles that Samsung was also on board starting perhaps 1 month ago to release their Android Wear variant.
First of all the Gear is a lot more nuanced for anyone to say that they've gotten the gist of understanding it's full potential in a mere 2 days. It's a new platform hence it's more than meets the eye . That's like me buying the Pebble knowing that it is extremely rudimentary in it's functionality and saying after 1 day that it's garbage. I'd still need at least a week to say that. That is why paid reviewers never release their final draft before spending sufficient time with any new device. (From what I've heard the Pebble is very buggy not well built. No Siri in sight. Yet the media raves about it gathering all the lemmings to spread the gospel.) Samsung has really dared to innovate well ahead of anybody else. They should be given a little credit & respect.
The Svoice is excellent for texting, reminders, calling my contacts, note taking with about a 95% accuracy rate. The media player is phenomenal and when it's combined with the free app Launcher from the gear store I can't imagine a better setup. Notifications are superb. Battery life is great. Camera is very useful when I need to take a visual note of a label or whatever. Customization of the navigation layout. Not to mention the developing platform of apps I use on a regular basis that are amazing when it comes to adding awesome functionality (Omelet app to share quick pics with my wife who owns a gear as well. Fleksy to type messages when it's too noisy)
To the statement of voiding your warranty in 2 days. Who does that? The Tizen SDK is there for any one to use. It's fairly simple and doesn't make you an expert on a platform because you've written a basic app. The list of things that you've given is an inherent part of any device like an Iphone or any smart device. I would argue that because you've done those things on those platforms doesn't make you an engineer.
So I ask you go back and watch the Google I/O event again and keep in mind that the Android Wear has ripped off many features from the Gear. Even the hardware requirements are mimicked from the Samsung Gear and Galaxy platform. I honestly sorta like it myself (the Wear Op system). However navigating that thing is gonna be a nightmare. There is room for improvement on it as well just like the Gear's Tizen and credit must be given when it's due. Kaygeee it takes these companies a long time to get these things right. Enjoy the times we're living in. Imagine how awful the 70's, 80's and 90's were when in came to tech. 300 Bucks is not a lot to spend in order to be on the cutting edge.
Like the previous commentor to your statement said, return your device back to wherever you bought it or sell it on Ebay/Craigslist. I for one am going to see how things develop with Android Wear, however I can proudly say that I've enjoyed everyday spent with my Samsung Gear. If I ultimately move on to the Android Wear devices after 3 months of Gear use. I like many other happy Gear owners have no regrets. What other capable powerhouse smart watches were released in bulk within the past year? Exactly!

I have to agree with the above. Android wear looks like there is almost too much going on. Navigation looks cumbersome. I like being able to tell my device to turn off by pressing a button. I had the original gear and that side button drove me nuts. Having the home button on the front of gear 2 is nice. I can run my watch for 3 days easy taking calls emails texts playing games. Shorting pics of computer tags for work. Would I like to see wear come to gear 2. I'm on the fence. Would I try it ? Yes. Will I go out and get the new watch? No. I feel gear 2 is better built and worth the 300$ gear live isn't worth the 200$

I'm no expert... but from my point of view the Room for improvement on the Tizen S-voice is a lot.
compared to Google Now! which comes on a similar device released only couple of months after Gear 2 release
and why would i imagine the 70's, 80's and 90's when we live in 2014 my friend times change fast
like i said its good... but is it good enough with the young Tizen on it? how would it be with Android wear on it? is that going to bring out more functional potential.
I don't want to sell it. ill keep it around and wait for more improvement. or a chance to Port Android wear to it.
But in the moment i want to know how much people want to see The Android Wear on the Gear 2. i think I'm not the only one, thats why i made this Poll.

Okay Junior. Now make sure you drink your warm milk, put on your whitety nightys and relax a little. I'm out but thanks for the redundant useless (I mean brilliant) poll. Attempted to spit some knowledge at you but your rebuttals indicate it'll be a lost cause. Who needs a healthy substantive debate when we've got Junior around these parts.

:laugh:Like you said Junior you're the expert. Sooner or later your rants and complaining will force Samsung to their knees. Certainly now they will port Wear over to the Gear2 right away cause you're Kaygeee. You've been ripped off. You bought a piece of tech and something else is on the horizon. You should have been privy to that info before hand. Your bullet points are sound. You've voided your device within 2 days. Overall you are rational in all of concerns. They'll certainly seek your mercy since you have the power of this poll. Yeah Junior. You can make it happen. We support you!

the vote count is increasing as we speak
Kaygeee Thats Meee sooner or later Samsung is on its Kneee :silly:
maybe we should make a song... and post it on youtube..
i'll record and you rap on my Gear 2. Oeps the video recording time is only 15 seconds bummer.
I sold my gear 2 and bought a gear live for the simple reason that I want a fully functional smart watch to work with Cyanogenmod and not have to rely on the TouchWiz framework, I did enjoy my time with the gear 2 though on Omega rom and if android wear did come out for the gear 2 then I would probably cancel my order but until it's done it's android wear from here on out so I have the flexibility to use it on any rom I choose.

The main problem with it, and any other Android wear watchs is the 1 day use bit. Sure it's got an always on display but if they're advertising one day use, it probably means less.
Holding for for now until early reports from early adopters.
I like Google Now, but I never use it on my phone. The Gear 2 is giving me all the info I need with a 2.5-3 day battery.
I do also use the cam so gonna need support for that too.
---------- Post added at 09:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:39 AM ----------
Also gonna need it to play music from device (For gym), and keep all the health integration.
I just wish I had hangouts on the tizen, and also the ability to use keyboard to reply for those odd rare occasions i need to (so far never but would be a nice to have).
Facebook app to view whats going on and eBay would also be nice.
As of now Tizen is better than Android Wear because of App availability AND UI. Also if your talking about Google now and S-Voice they BOTH need Internet connections to work. Which here in the Philippines is not available everywhere. So I don't really care about that.
I guess yes Samsung will port Android Wear to the Gear 2 but they'll still modify it so it will still work as it works right now.

Any kind of voice command is useless to me, it makes you look like a douche in public and if you're not in public just use your phone.
Tizen is growing on me, the music player is good / fine for gym, has cool health sensors and heart rate etc. It works for how i intend to use it.
If i get caught short while in the house away from phone i can still take call on device, dont think talking is on the Wear agenda.
Camera I also use often, very often. It's ideal for a quick snap.
The 3rd party apps are trash, and the forcing to use messaging instead of hangouts is whack, but as I don't intend to reply i just wish the notification showed the whole message.
The music player control is also way better on Tizen, everything on one screen, well thought out, little icons top right from clock face to go back. None of this silly swiping malarkay!
The fact you can send send directly from phone is also very cool!, the music player has plenty of features, favourites etc. it's actually very good. If this is a fitness device the Gear 2 shines.
+1 for android wear

Closing this... Having a hard time comprehending value or worth of this thread....
Hi guys,
I did not find a single thread to match this question i have and so i created this thread (if a thread is available to answer my question, please redirect me and delete this thread mods ).
I recently acquired an iPad 1 with it's latest firmware being iOS 5.1.1. It is really annoying that i can't even edit a MS Word document xD (No offence but i really HATE iOS.) So i was wondering if there is anything at all i can do about it and probably, you know, install android or ubuntu or ANYTHING other than iOS? (i know it sounds stupid but this is my first iOS device that i have and i have no hell of an idea how to use, what to do with iOS or why it even exists! It is not really unbelievable for me because i used XDA on 2 of my windows phones earlier.) Any help appreciated
I think chromeOS and Linux have been successfully installed on ipads but they were more proof of concept and not really functional. If you are looking for everyday use I think you're stuck with iOS
Sent from my SM-T705 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the heads up. In any case, all i want to do is use it for editing text documents (MS Word - .docx) and play music. Obviously it can play music so no worries. Coming to the text editor, i did try a couple apps that were compatible with 5.1.1 but it crashes instantly. Did not find a proper "fix" on google. Do you have ANY idea on how to accomplish this? for if this is done, i have no need to worry about doing anything to it. lol
Really? You are using a 6 years old device with a 6 years old OS and you say iOS sucks?
Sorry if I hurt your feelings man... I am using an age-old samsung android phone running gingerbread. I still can install ALL essential apps and use it to it's fullest. so yeah, i am using a 6 year old device running a 6 year old OS with which i cannot install a small text editor and i did say iOS sucks
I can afford a new android tablet but the thing is this was a tab used by one of my family members for quite some time and he is no more now. it serves as a memory of that wonderful man. I don't mean to offend anyone here.
@HawkEye
I know this thread is quite old, but I also just recently was given an iPad 1 and was looking for some "updates". What I came across is "Grayd00r" (https://www.grayd00r.com/), which says bringing some new life into this old device. this might be something for you.
P.S.: I agree that you not always need the newest hardware - it always depends on your personal needs what you want to do with the phone/pad/etc.
