I'm sure there is a topic for this somewhere... or not. The signal on my phone at home is really spotty. Wasn't too bad before fp5 but it is almost unreliable now. I will have 2 or 3 bars, then i will get an (x) over the signal bars. Then it will jump back up, then disappear. Tried wiping cache and dalvik, and toggling CDMA and CDMA/LTE all of this helped a little bit... I was wondering if there is something I can do to make my phone hold the signal? I am pretty good with editing build prop files and recently have looked into dialer codes (very interesting).

is this your cell signal or data?
from my understanding, the FP5 update displayed lower cell signals.
also, has your call quality dropped? if so, then perhaps you have an issue, if not, then it's just a display/read thing.
Just cell signal not data

are you dropping calls or experiencing any noises during calls? if not, then you're probably fine. but if you're like, you probably talk on the phone less than 5% of the time
I had terrible reception using fp5 modems and fp5 stock kernel on 2.2. So bad that I went back to fp1 kernel and modems......all things are great now.....I never was happy with fp5 radios in Nashville area.....

FP5 has been a big improvement for me. However I still suffer with terrible signal issues at my work place. I'm thinking about complaining to Verizon but I have a couple questions:
1. Do I stand a chance of getting any help?
2. How is the best way to go about it?

Sorry guys, but I'm a bit lost.
I've had the phone since KD1, and then KF1 (Gingy) came out. But what is KF2 exactly?
I've tried Gingerbread KF1 and didn't like it (it was a bit buggy). Is KF2 supposed to be a more-improved KF1?
Thanks in advance guys.
I've tried both, and haven't noticed any difference. My understanding it is just a different radio version that may work better in different areas of coverage. But like I said, I've tried them all and don't see much of a difference, but I know some people have notcied a difference in speeds and signal strength.

I have just flashed KF2 today and so far I have noticed that it seems to be more stable.
I was having trouble turning on bluetooth. Using the status bar toggle would crash but using settings would work. That issue is gone.
Before I flashed my wifi had one bar and now it is full, where I could not stream radio for more than 30-45 seconds, not I am streaming indefinitely.
Overall it seems to be running smoother in general (animations, transitions...).
I like the good parts about having GB (netflix, minor enhancements) so I wanted to stay but was disappointed with the stability of the KF1 release. However, I think this one is going to fix the things I didn't like.
One thing I miss from KF1 is the CRT screen off Animation...oh wait!... Non-Issue...
As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.
I feel like I'm posting incorrectly here but this thread says CM Q&A so if i am I sincerely apologize but here goes nothing...
I'm running Cyanogenmod 7 RC1. Before i installed CM7 i did a wipe of data and cache.
The google navigation app works for about 2 or 3 minutes then loses gps signal. I have to exit navigation then bring it up again and it will immediately get a gps fix then disconnect after another 2-3 minutes. I have really searched around for a fix and i'm not even sure which one to try.
Below are the threads that i have found that may fix the issue. I don't believe they will since the problem isn't getting a fix which it does. It it just losing the fix after a brief period of time.
If i use MapQuest it works flawlessly. It just really bothers me that i can't get a stock app to work...
Which one is the most viable? If non of the threads below will help can you politely point me in the right direction?

This is how it works for me as well. Just toggle GPS off and back on while still in the navigation app. Should come back up and stay on from that point on.
Thanks for your responses guys...I wish there was another way rather than that. I guess it's a small inconvenience for what is my favorite rom.

There is a way to quick search the phonebook with the stock CM7 dialer, but there's an extra keystroke involved. While the dialer is up on the screen, just press the search button on the bottom right of your phone. Then you can quick search through your contacts.

I had a issue with mytracks and GPS. It seemed to cut out frequently and when the trip was done it logged me as going almost twice as far due to zig zagging in my track.
Very low data speeds in CM7, what gives?
I'm new to android and to rooting. I understand that CM7 does not support 4G, but I'm not even seeing 3G speeds when I have it installed. My speed test results are averaging in the 0.4 - 0.5 mbps range down, and similar or some times better up.
On ANY other rom I see better speeds. I'd be ok with similar speeds to what I saw on my Iphone 3g, but when I tether right now on CM7 it makes me long for the good ole days of dial up. Seriously, I frequently see sub 56kbps speeds.
I WANT to use CM7. I love all the tweaks and features, but the data is so slow! Any suggestions to how I could fix this and get back to my 1.5 mbps 3G speeds?
Radio: 26.06.06.30

Did you make sure the APN's are correct? There is a APN thread in the dev forum.. If you are in 4g area you should see faster speeds than 1.5Mb.. Iam in dallas and see 3.5Mb down 1.1Mb up.. Either way, make sure the APN settings are correct.
By chance has anyone's phone gotten laggy at random or where it'll temporarily hang/freeze in the later builds?

Something this severe hasn't happened to me yet. I might see a little sluggishness from time to time, but it doesn't cause the phone to hang or freeze.

+1 on one7dchevy's suggestion. CM7 works with HSPA+ / 4G just as well as any other ROM (I've seen speeds up to 6-7Mb/s), as long as you've got the right APN config. Link to the APN thread is in my sig - be careful though, the OP of that thread is a real jerk.
BTW the radio version you're using is just fine - and the RIL that comes with CM7 works fine with that radio.
Posted this question over in the CM forums but they seem to get alot less traffic than here. Figured I'd give it a shot.
Flashed this device a while back. Now it's randomly losing GSM signal, wifi is fine. When I attempt to scan for a network provider it just errors out.
It's a AT&T device, Inspire 4g
It's running: 7.0.3-DesireHD
baseband: 12.39.60.19P_26.06.04.06_M
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0099HM (Jan 27 2011, 16:12:49)
Having to swap to and from airplane mode every few hours to maintain signal is getting old. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as this is my daily handset and I'm missing way to many calls. I've confirmed with my gf's captivate that it's not random network outages.
I even rolled back to an old nandroid backup where this didn't happen and it continues to happen.

EE4 wasn't a great modem either. Darn VIA radio.
But the GB builds have an issue with noises in phone calls that is still there in EP4P, if VZW is also seeing that in testing that could hold it up. And if they plan an ICS release for the phone Samsung might not try too hard to fix it - they obviously haven't been able to do so yet.

+1 The noise happens to me on any 2.3 rom, hopefully it's one of the issues they're trying to resolve before releasing gingerbread, though I hate to be part if the reason it's being held up

i think that something is wrong with my phone. It does not like any custom roms. It freezes and acts up often. Once i put the stock froyo or gbread it flies and works perfectly fine..... And gbread 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 were solid with no issues so far.
I think its the modem. I had my first static incall today after running the 2.3.6 leak for a week.
Never had that issue on froyo roms.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
There are some problems with this build as well. It seems to mostly be with the radio, echoing what people have said here. I've had a couple times where I could no longer send/receive SMS and had to reboot (where it immediately started working again).
There's some other weird things going on with the I/O. I use PowerAmp for music and I'm getting strange skips and pauses that I never had before. Could just be my configuration, but I'm still running pretty lean.
The latest rumor is that the OTA is happening on the 29th. That and $3.49 will get you a McRib.
GB is alright. They need to fix the freeze issue that has been on quite a few GB leaks. It doesn't happen that much on EP4P but it's still there. The modems on EP3 were great in the sense that the signal was SO much better, it obtained/held 4g with such ease. Then I upgraded to the EP4 modems and i lose my 4g signal like i did on EE4 but my 3g is actually usable now. Before the 3g speeds were so TERRIBLY slow i could never dream of browsing the web on it. These speeds are reasonable and i think these modems are the best so far. They need to combine EP3 and EP4 modems to make a solid, stable 4g connection but a very fast 3g connection when it does drop down. Ontop of all that they still need to fix the ****ty voice issue on all GB versions. EE4 was great with this but the GB modems make the voice quality sound like crap.
So, all in all, even though GB is clearly no where near ready to be launched i still just want them to push it anyway because that means GB source code which means CM7 which means CM9(if we get a dev on it)
I feel as the OP feels. As far as a bad radio, I guess I'm just lucky. I haven't had issues with data loss, crackling noise, Bluetooth problems, or anything else. This phone has been darn near perfect since I got it. The only real complaint I have (which really isn't a complaint) is battery consumption. I wish it was a tad better but I manage just fine. Oh, I do wish there was more memory too. I haven't been able to play a couple games because of low memory. Battery and memory are my only real issues at this point. Still, I'm overall very happy with the Charge and would have no problem staying with it if I didn't have an upgrade available.

Where did you hear that bro?
This release is solid
I was sick of waiting so I flashed this ROM to my phone and I have had the same results as the op. The phone is so responsive and snappy. It is like a new phone. I used to experience numerous data drops before and now, maybe a few in the last ten days. I have not had any of the static/call issues others have had. GPS is still slow to lock. Download GPS fix from the market and run it before you use the GPS...it helps IMO.
My battery life has improved since porting this release. I am a moderate user (phone calls, text, facebook, twitter, occasional GPS) and I get an entire day from my phone (7:00 am - 11:30 pm). I am sure streaming movies and gaming would cut it down significantly but the casual user will notice a big improvement in battery life.
Again, this is just my personal experience.
I agree that the latest version is awesome.
I guess I am really lucky as I have never had the slightest problem with data, phone call quality or anything else. My phone setup the way it is runs faster & smoother than my bosses Bionic.
The ONLY thing I would change if I could would be the poor battery life, but that's a fact of life with these huge screens etc.

No problem with my Modem. Maybe its your Charge? The leak has been solid for me.
Did the JB leaks help AOSP roms w.r.t data speeds, stability, camera etc? I don't see much going on, is everyone waiting for 4.2 to drop?
I think so.... Tomorrow is the suspected drop of the nexus 4 so yea I guess so.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
The big issue is the kernel. And the source for the JB kernel isn't out publicly. So no one has it to mod or tweak like the AOSP guys need. Once the OTA drops and the kernel is released AOSP will be rolling all over again with much more steam.

There are quite a bit more data drops on AOSP as opposed to stock TW. Also AOSP doesn't pick up signal as well as the new JB TW leak in outlying areas. For instance I get 1 bar of 3g and 1 of 4g in my house on AOSP and on the JB leak I get between 3 bars to full service on 3g and between 2 and 4 bars on 4g in the same place which is a great improvement over TW ICS, I was dropping service all the damn time for no reason. On my MAXX I had full service on 3g everywhere on my house and 3 to 4 bars of 4g, and while I know Samsung radios aren't as strong I shouldn't have had that much of a problem, my SGS3 wouldn't even pick up service much better outside until the leak.

That's interesting. I've never had any data drops whatsoever. What's the differential on the actual numbers? Bars aren't a good metric.

It isn't a gargantuan difference but it is notable, I'm not home and won't be for a bit, I have a notebook I've written it down in, but later today I'll flash the new leak grab the numbers and grab the numbers off of PA and post them for comparison. The thing that killed me though was that the numbers were closer to TW ICS, there was still a difference but not as large as AOSP and TW JB, but the difference in the service quality was notable. Texts didn't fail 5 to 10 times and have to be continuously re-sent, and calls weren't breaking up any more and I wasn't dropping calls in the same place I had all of these issues before.
I'll try to post em all by 5 today, hopefully.

My experience on AOSP is that for the first few battery cycles my signal will be fine. Then as I get more situated on the rom (any AOSP one) the 3G/4G hand off gets worse and signal degrades. Touchwiz definitely gets me a better signal, one that is consistent at that. The signal difference is far from negligible in my experience
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Aosp imo has lost its edge...reason being everybody is using cm's kernel base so they all have the same bugs. I dont know if its the abundance of supported devices thats taking away from the quality of the builds. However it will shine over touchwiz when the carrier quits updating the device and the only way to get new versions of android will be thru aosp.

Possible fix. jmxc23 got me thinking. Why does Moar 4 have a good signal and Moar 5 does not? So I compared the two roms, Moar 5 is MD3 and 4 is MB1. Actually all of the MD3 roms gave me a Bad Signal. I did some comparison and found the following files in the rom that were not part of MB1. I deleted them and zipped up and reinstalled and got my signal back, but only better than before. Anyone willing to give it shot to confirm or debunk. There are also two different files in Framework, but won't boot without them, so they are not included in this zip. I also deleted two lines in the build property that says required by Verizon. If they say it is required, I question it, probably a control thing. Unzip the attached and remove the files found in this zip from Moar 5, except build.prop, you can replace it with the one in the zip or edit it yourself. I now have 3-4 bars instead of 1-2. Now Moar 5 works for me.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/a...iles_from_MOAR_v5.0_and_change_built.prop.zip
I wish somebody could figure out what verizon changed with the md3 update that killed the signal strength for me. I have pretty much tried all the different roms that use md3 as the base, different kernels, modems and nothing seems to help. I lose approximately 10 - 15 deb on md3 meaning it goes from the high 80's sometimes higher but up to 111 or more dbm on md3. Something in the rom has got to be blocking the signal, maybe the build properties? I live in an extended network coverage area, so those of you that live in a strong signal area, may not see the difference.
On md3, lose signal, garbled voice, so it's not just the signal strength meter.
We don't know as Verizon pulled the update so that they can fix the problem.

That is why I asked the question, I knew that, but all the developers seem to want to jump to it anyway, runs fast, but signal not so good in weak signal areas.

If that was the case then why only 3-4 ROMS are based on MD3? If developers were that eager like you said then more MD3 based ROMS would released by now. It seems to me that the developers are looking for a temporary solution or waiting for Verizon to fix the problem. Also those that already have a MD3 based ROM basically using the previous modem. They might also be working on a temporary fix.
I've tried previous modems, kernels, still bad. It is almost like verizon added something in to gain more control and by doing so crippled the signal. I have noticed additional contols in the build property like wait times. The same code could be hidden elsewhere in the rom too. I don't have this problem on the ported md4 version from sprint. That rom has moved on to md3 and same signal problem. I feel that the develipers here are likely to find the problem before verizon does.

I am using MOAR ROM so I haven't gotten those problems.
I am also running moar 4.02 not version 5. Version 5, I tried and same issue. I think it is more noticed in weak signal areas only. Where I normally get 2-3 bars, I get 1 and dbm is a lot higher. I am also on a new phone.

It is always like that with weak signal areas regardless of ROM. Switching modems will either work or it won't. A network extender helps so does improving cell coverage in weak areas those are your only two options at this point.
Good hear you found a possible solution. To remind others try this only in weak signal areas.
No worries moar is going back to mb1 for better signal and thank you op for helping to make moar all it can be
