(Q) SD card uses? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased the 8GB Tab 2 7.0 because of the expandable storage but now I'm questioning whether the 16GB on the Nexus 7 would suit my needs better.
I know that apps cannot be moved to the SD card but I was wondering about rented Playstore movies? I downloaded a Play movie and it went right to the internal storage and I couldn't find a way to move it. I mainly use my tablet for DroidTV (which will not download to the SD card - they say Samsung doesn't allow it) and rented movies when I travel. And with just a few tv shows and my apps downloaded I'm down to 2GB of the internal storage left which isn't enough to download one Playstore movie.
I've thought about rooting but I've never done that before and I'm a big chicken so if anyone has any other way for me to utilize the 32GB storage card I bought I would really appreciate it!

I think you could use app called directory bind, have not tried it personally, but i think it allows to bind directories of external sd card as if they are in the internal sd
Sent from my GT-P5100 using xda app-developers app

Thanks. I can't find it on Google Play but when I searched for it online I found a thread here on XDA that says ROOT is required.
Any other solutions out there? I love my Tab 2 but I definitely need more storage .

Hard Disk for PDA - intermediate solution

I have been grappling with the problem of storage for a while. When I had a XDA II I was thinking of getting a CF USB Host card/Sleeve/Portable HD but stuck to SD cards. I had to return a 2GB SD card a while back and was going to replace it with a 4GB card when they became cheaper but I came across an interesting device that I think has solved my storage problem (until PDA's come with high-capacity HDs). It's a Vosonic VP 6230 http://www.vosonic.com/index.php?php_mode=spec&php_itemid=36 . It works like an image-tank but unlike other image tanks you can copy from the HD to a SD card. So if you are going on a trip you can copy say movies to the SD card when you want to watch them rather than having to bring along a laptop. It also plays music/videos/photos itself but's it's not a great media player. Also you can charge it through the USB cable. ~£240 for 80GB model.

P.s. when I use other memory card the some movies play fine, but this 32 GB SanDisk Memory Card works good there is only problem when I try to watch movies from this memory card. It's like LG O3D is not compatibile with this memory card or something
Mine is class 4
Uumm you didnt buy your memory card of a little chinese guy on ebay did you ??
This 32GB memory card is original, I got a original box I bought from top seller, memory card works as a storage, works good with other device I can play movies form this card on other phone. It's very strange, problem is when I try to play movies from this card
Have you tested your memory card using the h2testw test, its the only way to make sure your card is 32gb properly.
You can download the testing app from here ,it is freeware.

Also make sure your memory card is FAT32 format

If the movies don't work for the memory card or the internal memory, problem might be the movie files themselves.
A class 2 memory is very VERY slow.... My guess is that the phone needs time to access the card especially when you try to open big videos.
I have just ordered a trascend 16GB class 10 memory.

Class 4 isn't really that bad. Can you open videos at all? Do they open but it just takes forever or don't they open at all?
no I can't open video, I get massage, "Sorry, this video cannot be played" every time. Video player see movies but cannot open.

What's the format of the movie? Maybe the stock video player can't play it?
When I put the some movies (which I can't play from external sd) into memory phone, lg optimus 3d play the some movies very well without any problem. That is not a movies problem
It sounds like you have a corrupted file more than anything else.
>> player can see file but cannot open

Can you open other movies of the same format using your phone??

Yes I can open other movies of the same format using my phone
It seems that you have a very specific problem...
Well you can try some things to troubleshoot the issue.
Can you play mp3 music or any music from your sd card?
Can you open photos?
Also you can try to switch your sd card with one of your friends maybe and see if it works?
right I've found the soluction. My 32GB microsd what I bought it's damage on 100%. I cant paly any video from this memory card on another device as well. When I try to play mp3 truck from this memory card music trim, doesn't play smooth. this is very strange first time I've got issue like that.

[Q] just a quick question before I purchase mine

hey there, hoping for a quick answer.. basically I read in a review that I won't be able to use an external SD card to store media.. like music on and use it, what I read was this:
'the microSD slot works out of the box. It supports up to 32GB and shows up as a notification giving you two-press access to it. This is both good and bad. The way Asus implemented microSD support is to label it as removable storage. Android will ignore it and consider the internal memory the SD card. This is not too much of a problem. However, if you think you are going to run your music off of a microSD, you are mistaken. The Transformer will not look to the microSD for media files. Some apps will let you add folders from the microSD card into their libraries. Yet many will not.'
could anyone who has one confirm if this is true or not please?, as I plan on buying one soon as but if this is the case I won't be buying one . thank you for any answers
Craig
Maybe see this thread.
The stock music player by Asus (already installed on the transformer) see the contents of the microSD just like if it was on the internal..you have only a little notification in the bar..
For the SD in the dock I don't know..maybe someone else has tried..
If you want to use only a microSD go and buy the transformer !
EDIT: maybe not all the music player will see files on external SD but for me the stock player is good enough..
thanks for the replies guys , I also heard 3.2 supports media from external sd cards natively so maybe this addresses that issue
ordering it this evening

Digital copies of movies & android

I've got quite a few DVDs/Blu Rays that contain digital copies and would like them on my SD card as my phone only has 16GB of storage. To the best of my knowledge if I download them via the PlaysEverywhere app, I can't transfer them to my SD card? (my Z3 isn't rooted or anything like that). Is there anyway of downloading it and getting it on my SD card? From what I can see on Sony MediaGo, there's no way of importing the film using that

Netflix, save to external SD?

Netflix released a new update that features the ability to download movies and shows on certain devices. Problem is, I don't see an option to store it on my external SD, which is twice the size of my Shield Tablet's total internal storage, and doesn't have apps and OS files on it.
Has anyone figured out a way to store the downloaded data on external storage?
Bump.
