I have a Sandisk class 4 32gb microSD card in my infinity. Whenever I try to transfer large file to it, be it either from computer or through a file manager program, my infinity freezes and reboots. The card is in exfat format. Around 300mb of a large file will be transferred, on average, before the freeze happens. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm trying to transfer movies over that range from 2-10 gb. The only way I have been able to transfer is by inserting the SD card straight into the computer and bypassing the infinity completely. I'd like to be able to leave my SD inside the tablet at all times.
I believe it's a bug in the current Asus firmware. Putting those large files on the MicroSD via your PC is probably the only way to do it reliably at this point.... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. At least there is a workaround (doing via PC) until Asus fixes the firmware...

ASUS- Release it now, fix it later.
Thanks for the info, I will just keep up my current technique then. I liked my prime, I like my Infinity but ASUS needs some serious help when it comes to firmware and QC.

Couldn't agree more with that statement!! I'm not sure if they are just trying to do too much with too little resources or what, but they should be ashamed of the state of their QC (in terms of hardware and software). Until there is more true competition, I don't see it changing though. Hopefully, more competition happens sooner rather than later!
Let's face it, where else can you get full HD tablet with such a great docking station?

Hope that JB have an improve about this... also transfer to usb have this issue
easy fix
Just format the microsd to Fat32 and it doesnt do that anymore. I tried ntfs and exfat, they both rebooted device when accessing. Until its fixed just format it to fat32 and no issues. To avoid the 4gb limit on files just transfer files over a FTP server setup on your network and it will bypass the 4gb limit on file size. Dont know why it does that but with ES file explorer it works perfectly fine. When using regular LAN tab data transfer is about 600KB, but with the ftp tab my pc transfers at about 2-3MB/sec.

Just got my Transformer from Fry's yesterday. I've charged it, downloaded some apps and played around with it. However, I noticed I don't seem to have the most current build according to the XDA change log. Mine is showing up as:
8.2.3.9-20110423
I tried doing a System Update in the About Tablet section of the settings but it says there is no update for my device. I didn't receive any notification to download any sort of update either. How do I manually update?
Curious, did you buy it as open box?
just go to Asus website under support for the tf and download the newer firmware and the SOP document which has the instructions its really easy you need a micro SD card.
No, it was brand new, unopened. I was able to do the manual download after checking out the change log thread. Seems to be working fine.
Very impressed by the Transformer so far. Coming from the original iPad, I'm amazed by the speed both in transitioning to different apps and the web as well. For some reason, the iPad screen seems a little smoother. Is that because of the Gorilla glass on the Transformer?
I downloaded a couple of apps that weren't specifically tablet optimized, specifically Battleheart. Looks absolutely gorgeous; I was afraid of pixilization but it looks exactly the same as Battleheart on my Motorola Droid, just bigger and it runs much, much faster.

Actually, I didn't have a micro SD card handy. All I did was plug it via USB to my computer (Windows 7) and simply dumped the file I downloaded in there, not to a specific folder since I didn't know where it should go. As soon as I unplugged, there was a notification saying an update was found so I guess it worked that way too.
Hello everyone,
I am having an interesting problem with a 32gb micro SD card it my transformer.
I am trying to transfer movie files to it (approx 11 gigs). The problem is that the tablet can play the first 3 files that get transferred over but nothing past (keep getting file can not be opened error).
The files are approx 700mb each, xvid files.
I have true all of the video players that are popular with the same result.
It seems to me an issue where the transformer can not read / access the files past a certain point on the card.
I have tried transferring the files over my network and wifi as well as direct copy to the card from a desktop, same result.
Has anyone seen this before?
Would it be worth formatting the card to an ext file system as opposed to fat32?

have you tried putting the sdcard on the computer and verify that the files are working correctly?
there are some sdcards that are counterfeit, especially if they have huge capacity and sold for very cheap.
I once got (as a gift) a 4GB usb drive that was in reality 1GB in size, files up to 1gb work just fine, above that you start getting all kinds of errors.
Thanks forthe follow up. Allthe movies play fine on the desktop, still just getting that the video playerz can't open the file. It almost seemslike the system thinks they are inuse by another program.

HUH? Don't you see question marks in his post?
Just to close this off. Issue was the memory card. Bad card. Replaced with a new one and everything is working well.

First off let me start by saying this is the only real issue ive had with my TF700, and despite it would still recommend it 100%!
My problem is that i get reboots when copying large files to/from the infinity, and when trying to use AppBackup/Titanium Backup.
I dont know whats causing it, im on the newest WW firmware. I want to do a complete system restore, and try again, but halfway through any backup i get a reboot...
Any help would be great!
There are many posts about this already...
Basically, there are issues with NTFS-formatted SD/MicroSD cards.
Try using "exFAT" (if you need files over 4GB) or FAT32 if you don't need large files. FAT32 is the least problematic.
Hopefully, Asus will fix this in the next update.

ok thanks, i thought i had formatted to exfat already, turns out that was an old card.
could this also be the cause of video playback issues from the sdcard, like stuttering and failures altogether?
Hello all,
I have had my TF700 corrupt two Sandisk 64GB Micro SD class 10 cards beyond repair. chkdisk and reformatting are useless as the drive becomes unrecognizable in multiple computers. 32GB cards work just fine. Is anyone else having similar issues?

If these are SDXC cards, I've had a similar issue. This was resolved by using the official SD Association formatter utility. I had two cards which showed as "Bad Disk" in MiniTool Partition Wizard but by using the formatter I got both back working.
You can download it here: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

I got the program and reformatted "Full". Started to copy some files and get an error that the disk cannot be read. I close windows explorer, click on the drive letter and no disk is found. Sigh...
Thank you for your response as I will use this utility in the future.
Last piece of advice: it is NOT the TF700, but MiniTool that *****s up your memory cards. We've had lots and lots of reports, but Mistar Muffin (the OP of the data2sd thread) apparently rejects to update his opening post and recommendations on the matter.
Use Gparted instead (comes on a bootable ISO to boot, so even under Windows you won't even have to install it), and away with your problems.

Marty,
I do not use data2sd, minitool or Gparted. I do use Browser2SD. Could that be it?

I had a card corrupted by MiniTool, but Mistar Muffin has updated his OP in the data2sd thread. It now mentions to use GParted, a much better utility.
The TF700T is not known to corrupt cards. I'm using a 64GB class 10 Sandisk microsd with data2sd and no issues for months.
For a faster browser, just use Firefox, instead of doing stock browser hacks. I've just always found Firefox gives me less issues than the stock browser with or without browser2ram.

No, and you didn't say anything to make me think you did: I replied to KingFisherUK to avoid someone else picking up MiniTool and having their microSD cards crap out on them as well.
It may depend on how you formatted it. Browser2ram -- which I think you mean -- is not exactly known to throw up severe errors, and if it is not installed correctly it will just plainly not work.
Still, I'd get the gParted ISO and try to recover your dead cards. I did the same with mine, and although it took a harrowing evening -- seriously, I will not repeat it if I can help it :S -- I did get it to work again...

To each his own, apparently, for I have found Firefox sluggish. Really sluggish. Stock browser on CROMI(-X) gives much better results on the web sites I visit regularly. And I actually do notice a speed increase with browser2ram. There are way too many variables at work here, I guess, to make a blanket recommendation that will fit all.
PS: the same goes for Chrome, Dolphin, Boat, and all the other browsers I have used (and sometimes loved) in the past.
Had also the described problems. These could be resolved through Windows chkdisc (important: the check may take very long - you may actually think that chkdisc does not respond any more - just be patient and wait!).
My failure was quite interesting and I got screwed for a new card even thought the old one is under warranty as its only about 6 mos old. The card still basically works but is unreliable and semi-dysfunctional. All the usual diagnostics indicate both corrupt files and file system/bad track 0, but somehow the ro bit for the entire disk (card) /dev/sdc got hard set, but not exactly. I could create files and directories on-device, copy from the card but not to the card with a PC, and could not delete anything nor format/partition the card. Its now one-way storage. 64 GB of my life locked on a flash card. I will destroy it myself. That way I know it got done.
I tried everything including GParted, the official SDCard Formatter (Windows), DOS, Linux dd and the advanced one (forgot the name) for sensitive data used by the DOD and FBI to recover erased data. I even tried Wii, Xbox, and some manufacture of the controller chip for the cards (forgot the name). All my data is still on the card despite my best effort to destroy it; the wire for the erase/format signals must have fractured under heat or over writing and I fear not RMA it because it has personal data including complete backups, IP sensitive business documents, photos, contacts, emails, and my last 3 years tax returns not to mention a music and video library. For a buck a gig I can rest easy that the chip won't make it to a dumpster or get lost in the mail, then found and my identity stolen or hacked. Even though it probably wouldn't happen, it could and that's enough to keep me up at night. Is just not worth the risk. I just replaced it with a Patriot some size/class/speed on sale and its working fine. My case could be a statistical insignificance, but after getting burned by Sandisk, I'm questioning whether their quality has dropped after they grabbed market share and some of their competitors might be where the quality is at now? Well see how the Patriot does in comparison. It shouldn't be too hard to beat 6 mos.
Read this. They've recently upgraded their firmware due to some data corruption problems on newer devices (like TF700T?).

Okay, so I've been scouring the Internet and these forums for a way to do this, but haven't come up with an answer, maybe it's just that I'm an idiot and would loose my head if it weren't so stubbornly attached to my body and the answer is right under my nose. Who knows (obviously not me). Anyway, I've downloaded a 7gb .mkv file onto my phone and am currently attempting to get it off my phone. I now have come to understand that the fat32 format of my sd card does not allow me to transfer any files over 4gb to it. This would like explain why I would wait forever for it to transfer and then when it finishes.... it starts all over, and just does that again and again. Next I tried cloud services and I found that they won't let you transfer files anywhere near that size, especially not for free. So that leaves me in my current dilemma. Now here's the details. I've got a brand new Mac I'd like to get the file onto and a Note 2 that I'd like to get the file off of. To complicate matters worse I use my phone for damn near everything Internet related and tether it when using the mac so I don't have any wifi either. I think I could potentially Bluetooth it (maybe?), but that would just take an absurd amount of time of its even possible so that's outta the question even if it is a possibility. Isn't there a way to just hook up my note 2 to the mac and transfer that way? Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Is there something wrong with the USB cable?
Nope. Working just fine but I'm guessing you must know something I don't cuz I haven't been able to find a way to transfer the files I want. Also though, on my macbook android file transfer wouldbt work peiod but it does on th imac, weird right? But even with android file transfer working on the imac theres a 4gb file limit so its still no help with the file I'm trying to get moved

Try transferring it to a pc, then transfer it back out to an external hard drive formatted for Ex-FAT.
