I have a MT4GS from a friend at home and the keys don't work anymore. Strangely enough they do work but only in bootloader; not in recovery or ROM. I did a restore with the PG59IMG.zip, but problem is still there.
Does anyone have a clue or idea about what to do now? My friend is very happy with this phone and has no money for a new one.

This very well may not work considering your description of the issue and the things you've tried but Blue6IX extracted the stock keyboard layout and created a flashable .zip file to take a person back to stock after trying one of his custom ones. If you'd like to give it a try, it's located HERE as the last entry to the first group. Hope it works for you.

Thanks for the info, but still a problem: I can't navigate in recovery since the hardware keys don't work there.
I saw this post Clockworkmod 6.0.0.0. It will make it possible to flash stuff cause it has touch but the files cant be found when i want to download it!

That recovery was pulled because it was bricking devices. You don't want it. I don't know if the dev is working on it anymore.

There's no fix for the hardware keys not working. Keep on your your rooted rom. Get Button Savior from the market. Or send it to T-Mo/HTC.

Hi! By saying hardware keys does that include your hardware qwerty keyboard? Also you said keys work in bootloader but on bootloader mode only volume keys & power button are used so is volume keys & power button working while on ROM?
If what your talking is the hardware keys below the touch screen(home, menu, back, sensor & genius) then most probably you got a broken ribbon/flex cable send it for repairs if that's the case cause it needs to be replaced.
In ROM and recovery nothing works for as far as I can see. No qwerty, power, volume and frontkeys. Only in bootloader it responds to power and volume Keys.
That's the strange part, they do work but maybe it's driver/software related?

Ok as you said on your first post you already flashed a complete stock ROM right? So this can't be a software problem since flashing PG59IMG.zip basically replaces everything in the phone.
Try booting the phone without the sdcard or try with another battery.
Probably there's something on your sd card that's causing the phone to be unstable or your battery can't provide enough power to run the keyboard.
It's not the sd-card since I used a brand new, formatted one. That's also needed if you do a PG59IMG.zip restore. Only thing on the sd is that file, no other files/folders. Could be battery, but it'll take some work. Thx for the help.

I have 3 doubleshots, one is completely 100% hardware bricked. It started just like your phone is acting up. Only in the bootloader vol +/- and power worked. I managed to get this device s-off, and rooted. Used button savior to be able to navigate. Then touch screen stopped working about a week later, and I have a doubleshot paper weight.

My phone did the EXACT same thing!!!!!!! Just about a month ago, it was very annoying. I tinkered and tinkered and nothing. so i reverted to stock with the PG591IMG and s-on and called tMo for an exchange. They sent me a replacement in 3 days (albeit the replacement is giving me a heck of a time getting camera and headphones to work) but i think thats your best bet. Is yours still under warranty?
Same issue
Has anyone found out what causes this problem? My girl really misses this phone. lol. i got cm9 and twrp installed on hers. Like the orignal poster - the Power, Vol Up, and Vol down only work in the bootloader. when CM9 boots up non of the hard keys work.

First I thought this was rom related but after flashing different roms & even returning to stock via Odin I realize that its on my end. Doesn't matter what rom I flash I do not get a lock screen of any kind.... have no clue how or what I've done.... any suggestions????

do u have issues with your power button as well? try long pressing it and seeing if u get the power menu, or if the phone turns straight off
I notice that as well. No extended power menu either. The rom I'm running right now has it built in... strange. Wtf have I done. Everything else runs perfectly lol

you've done the exact same thing to your phone that I did to mine. Did u recently flash the uclcl5 radio from the note? if you did and all of a sudden all this stuff broke (no lock screen and no extended power menu) your phone is broken.
I have no idea how to fix it, I've tried everything. The only fix is warranty, the only reason I haven't returned mine yet is becuz I'm waiting on a new screen for my backup phone. Sorry bud, your SOL
Did either of you guys try an ODIN flash?
I'm sorry my friend, but look at my thanks meter lol. That is the first thing i would recommend to anyone else, and the first thing I tried, 3x in a row, no dice. I believe it has to do with corruption of an inaccessible system partition, either way the phone is futz.
Everything works flawlessly then those two issues so far. I can use widgetlocker & it has the power option when I select reboot in the 14 toggle . I did flash the ucla5 modem but it didn't work so well. Glad it didn't brick the damn thing!
I said in the first post I used Odin to flash completely stock. Lol
Suppose mods can close this thread thanks again bro!

I was just aimlessly browsing the t989 forum, and found someone with the same issue!!! Apparently its an efs issue, which isn't touched by Odin or can. I didn't flash the file, I simply did the following
Root Explorer
browser to /efs folder
open imei
long press and select new file
name it "keystr" exactly as it is in quotes
long press key str
open in text editor
type "ON"
press back and save
delete keystr.bak
I checked if it worked by long pressing power button, and extended menu came up!
Wow. That got my extended power menu back!!!!
Holy moly doughnut shop!!!!! Its fixed!!! Exciting news!™!!!

I had major problems with uclc5 Note modem. No power menu myself. Had to flash 3x to stock. actually used the Konane GB. Was getting several errors still. gaaps and a couple other android process errors. As well as phone rebooting intermittently. LOL was running the uclc5 while on GB. Data worked though!!
Limping, and I mean limping. The following took me 2 hours. I formatted my internal sd (in the instructions on the Real Thing thread). Hard reset via the phone not rom manager. Downloaded stock KJ modem though XDA mobile. Managed to get ROM manager into recovery, flashed the GB stock modem. KJ. After this, things started moving along a little faster.
Then worked my way back to Seanz Real Thing. Staying far away from that note modem. From reading it's hit or miss if it works on your phone. NOT all CHIPS are created equal. I read that somewhere on here.
Everything has worked great since.
Loving all the work the DEVS are doing. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!

My HTC ONE X will not boot and or charge. I cannot get access to the bootloader or recovery.
My HTC ONE X had it's bootloader unlocked via the rogers htc-dev method. I also installed clockwork recovery. It is rooted also but you prob figured that already...
I pulled a bonehead move by flashing the MIUI rom the international one x by changing the update script to flash onto my phone. After it flashed it looked like it worked. When I left recovery and shut the phone off it would not turn back on.
I called AT&T they said they will switch it for me when they get a shipment but I want to keep this phone because the boatloader is unlocked and they might patch the rogers method.
Thanks in advanced.
P.S. I know how to use adb and other tools such as RUU and they did not work.
Have you tried holding the power button for 10 seconds to reset it? You should see the 3 lights below flashing.

First of all, you should be able to get to H-Boot by holding volume down when turning it on.
Second of all, this is why they lock the bootloader in the first place.

H-Boot key combo is not working.
I have been flashing roms since the samsung moment, I built and modified roms on my EVO and ported roms from other phones to the EVO. I always had recovery to fall back onto to get my phone booting again. Even when I had the Xperia Play that required a PC to boot recovery I was still able to get the phone to work. This phone is strange that is will not even turn onto H-boot/Bootloader.

Thank God the dude at AT&T cannot get into the bootloader also to see that is was tampered with so they are giving me a replacement.

Honestly, not trying to call you stupid or something, but did you really think it was going to run on this phone when it was meant for another one? The GPU and CPU are completely different...
Anyway, I'm glad AT&T is replacing it for you. Hopefully if someone else bricks the same way then they will be able to get a replacement as well.
so you are smart enough to use adb, an RUU, unlock your bootloader, root, flash roms.......but you aren't smart enough to see the hundreds of posts saying that the international roms don't work on our phones??

My EVO was unbrickable too, I flashed a rom that was designed for the international version. It only contained system and other basic rom stuff, nothing that was crazy.
No idea why you wouldn't be able to boot into recovery then. I hope all HTC handsets aren't like this..

Somebody (and I'm speaking more in general terms) should create a good noob guide for Android in general. But then there's a need for specific guides for the major manufacturers too. And of course, I'd really appreciate any guide including a good glossary.
From my experience, XDA and other developer forums are very steeped in detailed technical jargon with little explanation for the casual or new user. And I know that the focus is on development and not hand holding the noobs. But I'll counter with the fact that they do come here, looking for help. And it's infinitely harder to learn when there isn't a good resource.
Having said all that, I do appreciate Blue6IX's [REF] doubleshot Developers Reference.

You are right, I didn't understand what you were trying to communicate.
I was under the impression that when you were writing about ROM Manager that you meant ROM Manager and not CWM. ROM Manager is an application that communicates with CWM and directs it to do what the user directs, CWM is a developed recovery. They are not the same thing. Clarity is helpful if you are asking for assistance.
Here is a thread regarding getting back to stock but I don't know if it will help you.

Last night the power button on my ns4g stopped working I tried everything under the sun to get it to work.. After an unsuccessful convo with a samsung rep (which i have a copy of if anyone needs to see) and 4 hours of frustration I went to sleep. This afternoon I went to a sprint store and they took it apart and put it back together. The button is jammed. When I put the battery in it jumps on, and when I hold up t goes into fastboot mode. They said since they don't have the part they'll send ne a replacement phone. But now I need to make a Nandroid of the phone I have so that I'm not missing a step when I get my new phone. So my issue is how would I enter recovery w/o a jammed/broke power button? currently I have cwm 6 installed. Also does anyone know if I'll get a GN or NS4G

My asus me301t memo pad is coming on then the asus screen stays on for about 15 seconds then turns on and off randomly about every 5-10 seconds. Ive never bootlooped anything yet so im not sure if that is what is going on here or not. I did unlock it with the asus unlock tool and fastboot twrp then flashed a cm mod 11. I know that was risky but if i can flash skyrocket roms to my rogers SII i thought maybe these ttwo tablets are close enough to do the same. What has me confused is after a week of fighting to get it back with only apx mode to work with i broke down and changed the main board. It acts the exact same way with the new board! What else should i look at? Could i have fried another part that is causeing it? I.ve unlocked, rooted, and flashed rom to about 10 tf101's and 5 tf300t's in the last 2 weeks but this me301t is a real tough one for me.

Sure, sounds like the perfect boot-loop: starting the kernel crashes and causes a reboot, etc.
Usually you can get out of the boot-loop by holding volume-down and wait for the next reboot. That should give you the bootloader screen and you can fastboot a new boot image or go to recovery and reflash your ROM from there.
If it won't work right away, there are lots of variations to try suggested in several threads: for example combine it with a reset or switch it off and plug in the charger. Well, those are for TF300T, but i guess your ME301T is not that different in that respect.

Hmmm, funny ive been rooting aand flashing roms for 6 months or more and didnt know or figure out to just hold the one volume button. Turns out that the used board that i put in was also in bootloop! What are the chances? so i borrowed one out of a working one i have and it worked. Thx for your response. The volume down button option might save me a lot of headake next time. in fact i think ill put it back in and give it a try. Thx

Did you try the small reset hole? Usually people suggest to use a paperclip to go in, but at least German paperclips are too thick; I had a hard time finding something to go in. But might help you.
You'll have to figure out, where it is on your device. Don't confuse it with the microphone.
Then press in, till you feel the switch giving way, but don't press too hard. Hold for a while (why not a full minute). Then try vol-down right away.

What would cause it to bootloop after the asus logo then a min into the rom logo? i still have recovery but no matter what rom i flash it never goes past a min into the rom logo

If you still got recovery, let it loop, then go to recovery. Then check the file /proc/last_kmsg.
It has the kernel log from your last bootloop. You should be able to find some hints there.

Did you flash the OmniROM for ME301T? There is a separate build and a separate thread.
Sorry, lacking a ME301T myself, so only got this pointer for you.

good idea! thx. I prob got the one for the tf300t and when it flashed the kernal.... I have the tf300t aswell so i likely have a copy for that. Its a much better tablet but id like to get this one to 4.4 too. Funny tho, i got a mouse hooked up with an otg cable from my samsung s2 and its not kinda cool. the round pointer dissapeared after about 10 min for whatever reason idk and left me with a nice little pointer. i might end up keeping it this way if i cant get a good 4.4 rom to work properly.
Thank you so much f69m.
I thought i had the right rom and such but I went looking and found what was looking for right here on xda ofcourse. The kitkat compatability pack! Got cm 11 nightly running right now! Not sure if everything works right yet but so far so good.
