Bluetooth Keyboard for HTC desire S - HTC Desire S

For those of you looking to connect a Bluetooth keyboard to a Desire S with android 2.3.5
( also known as a SAGA)
It seems there is a fault in the Bluetooth programming done by HTC in android 2.3.5 and lower so you cannot ever connect
a bluetooth keyboard. There is a conflict with Sense in the bluetooth stack programming if that helps.
I tried every piece of bluetooth keyboard helper software in the market and none work.
I have found an excellent workaround that I want to share to save other people hours of wasted toil.
Following various posts especially this one
"How to root, install EXT4 recovery and custom ROM on HBOOT 2.00.0002"
source http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
by N0elite ( thanks - sorry can't thank you on here yet)
I was able to root my phone with S-On
now it has an unlocked root using HTCDEV Unlock | S-ON | HBOOT 2.00.0002 | 4EXT Recovery v2.2.7 RC5
Note on the HTC dev website you have to Select the bottom option 'all other supported models' from the htc dev unlock root website
as desire S is not listed
then I downloaded a fantastic operating system ( rom) called virtuous Saga which has Sense version 3.6 and android 4.04.
( also via this forum - more thanks to mdeejay - again unable to thanks you on the forum yet)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669497
I did not flash the firmware because I have no idea what that means and it sounded potentially hazardous and I read
somewhere you cannot do it with S-ON ( whatever that actually means) - I only installed the saga ROM which works fine
with nothing faulty that I have so far tested
I just installed the virtuous saga zip on my sd card, installed it from the recovery screen and then had to flash the boot.img
from the zip file using flashboot from my PC
Result - Bluetooth works and my phone has lots of nice updated features
My Tecknet. x310 Slim chiclet Bluetooth keyboard ( £15 AMAZON) works perfectly now with this
(Again not sure if it makes a difference but this keyboard works using a bluetooth mode called spp rather than HID)
And I still have the lovely clock and weather widget - in fact it does not look much different to my old android version
- just faster and smoother and now I can queue music in the stock music app too.
I tried a few other ROMS - the cyanogen mod 7 works with bluetooth keyboard too - but it was all too strange, although clearly excellent except somehow I manage to get the market app to stop downloading any apps which is why I did not stick with it.
NB if you try this make sure that your Google account is synced and all contacts are backed up . I also used BookmarksSB to back up bookmarks, Astro to back up all my applications to the sd card, and SMS back up & restore to back up all my sms messages. all free in the Google market.
I also took my sd card out when following the steps to format and clear caches in recovery mode because I did not want to accidentally wipe my SD card.!!
hope this helps
( first post so I am sorry if I have broken any rules - just message me rather than flaming if I have - thanks)

Update - bluetooth keyboard and HTC desire S
I have recently unrooted my phone and installed ICS ( android 4.04) from the RUU file available from HTC
here
www htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads/P10
Filter By Desire S Carrier WWE v4.0
This is a little less laggy than the virtuous ROM and I can confirm it works with bluetooth keyboards.
So if you do not want to root your phone this is the really simple solution

[ROM][32A][32B] 13/09 2.2 - MoDaCo Custom ROM, Hero to Sapphire (optional 4.1.11.1)

READ FIRST - I am no longer updating my ROMs - details.
If you're following the Hero scene, you'll know that I have published a custom ROM based on the 1.73.405.5 shipping ROM. I have a Vodafone Magic (32B) and a T-Mobile G1 kicking around (and HTC want my PR review unit Hero back!), so figured it would be cool to firstly build a really simple way for me to package my ROMs for all 3 devices, and secondly try and produce an update.zip that runs on all 3!
Well, the first step is here, I have the MoDaCo Custom ROM ready to install on your Sapphire 32B device (and a 32A version is available to test).
Things you should know...
- Contents are IDENTICAL to the MoDaCo Custom ROM versions detailed here.
- I have used cyanogen's kernel from 4.0.4 (big respect to cyanogen, he's doing awesome work!)
- Now compcache ready - use this script for a big performance boost!
It has room for improvement, but it runs really sweet already IMHO!
The download link (in update.zip format for flashing in the usual way via recovery image) is at: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-modaco-custom-rom-hero-to-sapphire-32b-port/
I've packaged Cyanogen's 4.1.11.1 BFS enabled Kernel and wlan.ko as an update.zip too (see above thread) - nandroid backup before applying!
I've quoted some of my original Hero post here, so you know what you're getting. Enjoy!

Initial Release
me said:
This ROM is based on the Generic 2.73.405.5 release version of the 'new update' (together with my own optimisations) for the best possible performance! The ROM is now available in 2 versions - 'core' and 'enhanced' by popular request.
Included in both 'core' and 'enhanced' versions
- Rooted with 'adb remount' permission and superuser APK
- A2SD included (fully automatic - thanks cyanogen!) - create a EXT3 partition as your second partition to use. dalvik-cache remains on device. EXT4 is NOT supported.
- Added Jbed Java
- Added Spare Parts (run it and switch the 2 animation types to 'fast' for an even better experience!)
- Added Custom Locale for setting non english Locales
- Added android-wifi-tether 1.52 (props to the developer, this is a great app!)
- Added WMSM
- Added busybox 1.15 - tweaked such that 'get information' in Swapper now works as desired
- Added nano 2.09 - text editor for use in shell mode
- Added terminfo and settings to boot.img to allow nano etc. use
- Added tun.ko file (untested, please report on whether this is useful)
- Added files required for Debian linux
- Moved Quickoffice to data partition to allow easy uninstall
- Deleted 'Learn More' application
- Deleted Maps application - install from the Android Market to always stay up to date
- ROM now includes touch focus in Camera app
- ROM now supports shortcuts using BetterCut (and therefore I assume anycut!) in Rosie
- Silenced boot sound (it's still there and can be reactivated with a file edit)
- You can now check your MoDaCo Custom ROM (MCR) version from the about menu. It will display MCR2.0 (core) or MCR2.0e (enhanced).
- Fix for HTC Peep on Vodafone now available here!
Included in 'enhanced' version only
- Added Business Card Scanner
- Added 'Plurk' client
- Added WAP browser
- Added Chinese IME
- Restored Maps app (for users who cannot install it from the Market)

Is this ready to go as far as elimintating the blurry screen AND wifi ??
Just asking as the 1.5 and 1.51 both gave me fuzzys, and applying the update eliminated the fuzzys but took away wifi !
Either way. Thank You SOOO much I knew if I waited you'd give us something nice for the holiday !
You think a wipe would be needed going from 1.51 to 2.1?

to avoid any possible issues, I'd suggest a fresh wipe. I didnt add to much after the last rom I flashed so im gonna start over with my sdcard as well
A wipe is always wise, but SHOULDN'T be necessary...
P
Going to try this one now. How is the bluetooth support? Can paired headsets now actually work when calling?
re: support for ANYTHING other than WiFi and Camera (which both work), I don't know!
Let me know stuff that doesn't work, and i'll try to fix it in the next version.
Consider this a starting point...
P
For 32A I recommend the 2.6.29 kernel that redglasses uses on his Hero ROM:
http://www.2shared.com/file/7555649/5881ee4a/myhero-110.html
Might be stuck, d'oh!
So far, did a nandroid, wiped, etc. Updated, rebooted, and after asking for the language and network settings it's sat at a blank screen for some time. Status bar at the top, if left alone and hit the call button the dialer will appear and afterwards you'll see the unlock screen. But it just unlocks back to a blank screen. :/
So far this is the first ROM I've run into that's done this interesting bit. Will maybe reformat SD Card and rewipe, or something.
Nevermind. Rebooted, and it somehow proceeded this time around. Strange, though :/
dont really care for blutooth sound, but will it work for wireless tether ?? thats what I miss from using non hero roms.. having wifi back is also nice !!
Success!
Only noticeable thing is that when you go to far away from the home screen (going into settings, the dialer, etc), and return, it has to reload again for about 10 seconds. But once it's there it's fairly snappy.
Bluetooth pairs and works like it should! I might just hold onto this version of the ROM and tinker with it for a while.

have u messed with the swap yet ? 64/60 should help with that or 96/60 perhaps
i just flashed this and still am getting the fuzzys !! grr,, guess i have to flash the update over the rom and loose wifi ??
Modaco if you could shed some light it'd be much appreciated !
WiFi, etc works. Other problem : G Sensors aren't working D'oh

My swap's a bit rediculously larger. It's not that bad a lag, but only really noticeable when going back "home" from an application.
No swap or compcache etc. out of the box yet, let's fathom out the best settings together!

I'll upload a 32A version for someone to test...

modaco,
I am having all kinds of problems with this rom im still getting a blurry screen, it froze on me 3 times, im stuck in portrait and i keep getting the htc loading screen. I downloaded the file twice to eliminate possiblity of a faulty download as well.
mytouch...amonra 1.2.1, ext3. might have to go back to 1.51 that one worked great
I can confirm that this is running beautifully on my 32A device using redglasses/myhero boot.img and wlan.ko.
Seems to be significantly faster than the 1.73 builds, thank you modaco! Now you just need the 2.84+ build as well

WARNING: At the time of writing, the newest HTC update (to android 2.2.1) will make your phone unrootable. Do not perform a phone update if you want to be able to follow the majority of this guide!
Follow this guide to downgrade 1.72/1.84 (Android 2.2.1) [if you have updated to it] back to the rootable/moddable 1.32 before following this guide.
Files
A lot of the files and ROMs found here have been kindly mirrored by mousey_ at his site, here. (Getting outdated )
Another link to downloads is at http://www.iloveabath.co.uk/
Tools
Alot of these tools might be needed at some stage or another.
Android SDK - gives you tools like adb, used for all pc-based android development
HTC Sync - Has correct USB drivers for the DHD and lets you sync up various data
Fastboot - lets you flash .img's to your phone easily through it's fastboot interface
Flasher^ - lets you flash boot and recovery and create new bootanimation flashes.
QtADB - Useful graphical interface for using adb, also fastboot and recovery
Root
Note: If you just want to fully root your device as easily as possible, you might try this tool by liquidperfection. Check Default, ENG HBOOT and PERM ROOT. This will give you Root, S-OFF and Eng bootloader.
Root means that you can do things on your android that require the root user's access (the super-administrator account on linux). You manage this account by installing SuperUser and su. In the DHD, only having root access does not mean you can do all things usually associated with 'rooting your phone'. Alot of things (such as installing custom ROMs) need S-OFF as well.
NOTE: Custom ROMs are almost always pre-rooted. You will not need to 're-root' after installing a custom ROM.
VISIONary - An exploit app that gives you root.
- Needs USB Debugging on. might need 'Unknown Sources' on to install.
- You only need a temproot to achieve S-OFF (which will give you root thereafter), otherwise you can do a temproot followed by a Permaroot.
- Use it on 1.32 build rom only
PSNeuter - is a script that will let you get root access in 1.32 or 1.72 builds.
Superuser* - The su and Superuser app, for managing root access on your phone. Visionary installs this for you. This is the market link.
S-OFF*
This means Security-Off, which is a flag in the DHD's internal memory that lets you write to protected partitions of it, like /system and all of the boot partitions. Having this effectively gives you 'full' root access and is needed in addition to root for many of the more interesting rooting activities (modding, etc).
There are two ways to achieve S-OFF on your phone:
A) Load the engineering hboot, which makes the phone think it's S-OFF - this is called ENG S-OFF
B) Flip the internal 'switch' in the phone's Radio to S-OFF status. This is called Radio S-OFF
ENG S-OFF is 'softer' than Radio, it can be undone by a software update. You only need ENG S-OFF for updating ROMs. You need both for updating radios.
Radio S-OFF will never need to be redone. It is one of the most permanent changes you can make to your phone. Eng S-OFF can be cleared by a new hboot (i.e from a stock RUU, explained later).
ENG Hboot S-OFF Tool* - installs a new hboot img to your phone, which puts the internal memory card in S-OFF at boot.
- ENG Hboot scripts A guide for doing this is can be found here
- A completely manual guide to achieving S-OFF can be found here.
Radio S-OFF tool* - turns on permanent S-OFF in the radio. Doing this, even the normal bootloader will recognise that the phone is in S-OFF state.
- Using the gfree script, there's a manual way to do it
- Do this on a 1.32 rom only, it will stay thereafter.
root adb boot.img^ - Flashing this boot.img will give adb root permissions without having to ask.
Stock Roms
These are complete stock roms for the DHD, returning it to its original state.
The only thing not touched by these would be a Radio S-OFF.
The Vanilla HTC Stock roms are RUUs which can be run from the PC.
Others have uploaded clockworkmod backups from their phones to have near-perfect copies of Vendor's ROMs. Near-perfect because S-OFF is still required to do the backup.
Use clockworkmod to restore them.
HTC WWE Stock RUUs - (World Wide English), for stock devices. These are RUUs to completely flash the device from the PC.
- If you are having trouble with them not connecting to your phone, try my guide here.

Clockworkmod Recovery^
This recovery.img allows you to do easy backups and restores of ROMs, as well as apply custom, unsigned roms and imgs.
To get to recovery mode on the DHD, power off the device fully (makesure fast booting is off), then when turning on, hold down the power and volume down buttons.
Rom Manager^ - This is a market app that will install the latest ClockWorkMod for you.
- The actual images are available here. The Desire HD is called 'ace'. 2.5.1.3 is most stable for ROMs using 2.2.1 android, 3.0.0.6 and above is most stable for ROMs using 2.3 android.
- flash these to the recovery partition using fastboot, as shown below in the guide
Almost all custom ROMs use this to install. A normal process is:
Backup apps and/or data. Be careful about backing up system data, moving from one ROM to another and restoring it will almost always screw with them.
Download the zip for the ROM, and it's easiest to put it in the root directory of your sdcard.
Restart the phone into recovery mode, to get to clockworkmod.
Perform pleliminary steps: perform a backup first. For wiping a new ROM: Make sure battery is 100%, wipe cache, dalvik cache, battery stats and factory data. (see the tip at the end of Custom Roms section for this)
Choose to install a zip, from sd card. Find the zip you downloaded and install!
Wait patiently for the 1st boot-up, it almost always takes longer.
Custom Roms^
These are customized ROMs from the community, promising different combinations of speed, performance, features and looks over HTC's sense.
The easiest way to install them is through clockworkmod.
Here are some of the most popular ROMs for the DHD at the moment. It is in no way an exhaustive list.
Also see this list.
LeeDroid Froyo - A Customisation of HTC's Sense, with aims of long battery life and reserved improvement. Comes with his own custom kernel.
LeeDroid Gingerbread - Same as above, based on HTC's Gingerbread Sense (leaks).
Android Revolution HD Froyo - Customisation of Sense, with Apache14's kernel. Also aims to improve on all aspects of the ROM while not modifying its look.
Android Revolution HD Gingerbread - Same as above, based on HTC's Gingerbread Sense (leaks).
CoreDroid Froyo & Gingerbread - Customisation of Sense, with the developer's own UI tweaks and enhancement to add a shinier look and feel.
GingerX Gingerbread - Gingerbread Sense customisation with some added UI tweaks as well.
RCMixHD Gingerbread - Another Gingerbread HTC Sense ROM.
RCMixHD Froyo Rotating - Includes the Desire Z's rotating Sense UI.
CyanogenMod 7 - Cyanogen's famous version of Android, released for the DHD.
CyanongenMod Nightlies - Nightly builds of the above.
CleanDHD - Clean, minimal ROM with bases of CM6 and CM7 to keep things fast and let you choose what to install.
MIUI 1.4.x - MrGarak's mostly vanilla version of this Chinese customisation of Android. Has a completely new look and feel. (Don't worry, it's in English).
Ray's MIUI 1.4 - Ray-619's customisation of MIUI.
This thread may be handy for wiping your phone with a zip, before changing from one ROM to another.
Kernels^
Custom kernels for the DHD, hopefully allowing better performance, features or overclocking of the phone.
These are designed for 1.72/1.84 ROMs, or for Cyanogen when stated.
Gingerbread custom kernels will come when HTC release source for that.
Clockworkmod can be used to install some, or fastboot using the zimage partition (plus some additional modules may be required to fix WiFi).
See their thread for details.
SetCPU - (forum link) - Available on the Android Market, this is almost essential to make use of overclocked kernels.
Buzz OC/UV 1.51ghz
Buzz OC/UV 1.22ghz
kAmMa's OC Kernel
LeeDroid's Kernel
LorDMod CM / MIUI Kernel - Warning: do not flash for sense ROMs!
Kali's CM Kernel - Also CM only kernel
Jkoljo's Kernal Flasher - a windows based tool for automagically flashing kernels without the fuss of manual fastboot.
Radios^
Radios contain the firmware for the chipsets in your device that control the phone, gps, wifi, etc. There are many different versions out there.
A better ('ideal') radio will give you better reception while using less battery power.
It is a general consensus by the community that newer radios have generally gotten better from the original that you might have on your phone.
You can flash a radio .img onto your phone by using fastboot, into the radio partition. How to do this is shown below in this thread.
Please be sure to have both Eng and Radio S-OFF before doing so.
Always check the md5 hash of the image you want to flash, to be sure it is a non-corrupt file. (use something like this or this to check an md5 hash)
It is one of the most crucial parts on your phone and you always want to make sure you flash a working one on.
User Drakknar has compiled an excellent, almost exhaustive list of DHD radios in his thread.
It might be helpful to install the RIL profile associated with the radio you install. This helps how android natively communicates with your phones radio. See jkolo's thread here for CWM installable zips.
Otherwise just use the radio that your rom developer recommends.

Using fastboot
In order to use this with anything not signed by HTC, you will need S-OFF.
If you follow things carefully, it is not hard to do this properly. Doing things wrong with fastboot, however, is the easiest way to brick your phone.
Download and install HTC Sync to get correct USB drivers.
Download fastboot and put it in a convenient directory ( e.g. C:\desirehd\ or C:\android\, or replace the one in your SDK installation)
Turn off / restart the phone (fully); while it is restarting, hold down POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons until it boots into the bootloader.
Select the fastboot option, and connect the phone to your PC.
Start a cmd prompt / terminal, and navigate to fastboot's directory.
type fastboot devices, and check that it has one device listed there as your phone in fastboot.
To flash an img, type fastboot flash <partition> <path/to/new.img>
Partitions:
hboot - flash the ENG hboot here to achieve S-OFF
boot - the bootloader
zimage - contains kernel
recovery - used for clockworkmod
radio - the firmware for your phone's radio chip
system - the /system partition
splash1 - contains the splash screen on initial boot
Always make sure the .img you have is the correct one for that partition and is a working/non-corrupt file!
Example for flashing clockworkmod:
Download clockworkmod and unzip the .img so that it is in the same directory as fastboot
Connect/setup up your phone as instructed above
Use a command similar to this: fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.3-ace.img
After it's finished, reboot into your bootloader, choose the recovery option, and you should load into clockwork's recovery!
Useful Apps
These are mostly useful utility / customisation apps, which a high percent of people might have, and/or are to do with this guide.
Most are available on the Android Market.
BusyBox Installer^ - A prerequisite tool for a lot of other apps, providing some useful base linux functionality not present by default on android. (comes preinstalled in a lot of custom ROMs)
Superuser* - used to manage root user rights on other apps (also usually comes preinstalled).
Titanium Backup* - Extremely useful for backing up applications and settings. Will need S-OFF to restore system app backups.
SetCPU* - Allows for overclocking and profiling of the CPU
Typefresh^ - Lets you change Android's default font.
MetaMorph - A meta-app for changing styles and icons in other apps and skins.
Root Explorer* - 'The' root file explorer app. For getting down and dirty with android's file system.
ES File Explorer - IMO, one the best free normal file explorers. Also capable of root access.
AdFree^ - incase you don't like supporting ad-based free apps
Terminal Emulator - shell access to your phone. Can make use of root with the su command.
ConnectBot - I think an even better shell and ssh client. Same as above.
FasterFix and GPS Status - allow you to optimise your GPS chip, to get as fast a fix as possible. Set your region with FasterFix and download new A-GPS data with GPS Status.

Absolutely a must read! Thanks, didn't visit this forum for a while and all the new terms like s-off, hboot etc. made me a bit dizzy. You made my day.. Did I thank you already? if not: thanks
+1 for the sticky request
Is there also a thread which shows you have to edit a HTC ROM.
So get the system.img boot.img etc out of it.
And repack it as a .zip so you can flash trough recovery... ???
Awesome job of summarizing all threads and 'tweak' info on DHD!!
I had read most of this already, but as I was not reading the forum for 1 week now, I was just looking at where to begin reading again.
This is exactly what I need.
For all 'noobs' (me included ) it might be usefull to provide some general guidelines:
- get visionary for perm root, then
- blabla to s-off, then
- blabla to fastboot
etc...
AWESOME job

it is easy to install indeed...guess I was saying to include a small how-to (how to install custom rom; get visionary & perm root, get s-off with..., etc...)
But yes, the guides are good enough....
Brilliant thread, got everything needed to get started cheers.
I'm a little gutted that you have to s-off to install custom roms, prefered the standard desires way, nevermind.
Does anyone know where to find a uk Vodafone stock 2.2 Rom?? Don't want to do anything till I have a copy of that, also does s-on go back to s-off when you flash a stock Rom??
Cheers again for the thread and any help you can give.

You need S-OFF to do any sort of backups and/or flashes of custom roms.
However after restoring one of these it's possible to just reflash the hboot and recovery partitions with stock WWE ones and your extremely close to being right back at vanilla
successfully rooted, s-off and clockwork mod.....used your links, which do provide good instructions (obviously created by others).
These links are a handy startpage, now, just 1 question, why would I use nandroid, if I have clockwork mod set?
Nandroid allows you to backup and recover your existing Rom and settings before flashing another rom or kernel. Always backup before flashing.

That is what I have understood, was a bit unclear to me, why a lot of guides say, need to do android backup etc....as the clockworkmod does the same.
Actually, some further investigation indicated that a nandroid backup is made by cw mod
hurray, it's sticky : )
Thanks, I'm yet to root my phone but when I do this thread will come in useful. I'm probably going to wait until gingerbread or other roms with major improvements are available.
hey,
QtADB is graphical interface for: adb, fastboot and recovery (including nandroid) not only adb

Thanks to skygear for organising the OP for me
Please note that all these fixes / mods are for ICS based roms only.
If your new to ICS check out This Guide for how to first time flash. Its written for ARHD but you should be able to apply it to any ICS based rom. Thanks joaquinf for the guide
Fixes
[03Apr]Clock / Weather App only showing country and not current location
Go to Settings>Apps>All and try clearing data for Clock Widget, Google Maps, Weather, HTC Weather Sync provider and Weather Provider.
Finally, refresh the widget and hopefully that will solve your problem.
Thank you to SenseBugs for this, its been bugging me for ages!
[30Mar]Ad-hoc connections not working
If your wanting Ad-hoc connections to work on ICS check out this guide. Thanks to bASKOU for the guide.

[30Mar]Revolutionary S-OFF fails on OTA S-ON update
Something no one want to see! If your in this boat check out this very good guide HERE. Thanks Forever_n00b for this. Give me some feedback if this works for you, not a lot of feedback in the thread..

[30Mar]WiFi keeps wakingup on its own!
If this is bugging you, check out the fix HERE seems to be working for some. Thanks V6-Maniac and Virtuous Dev Team.
[13Mar]WiFi wont turn on
If your having issues with your WiFi suddenly not turning on after it was fine for a while, try the fix suggested by Zeustopher HERE. Hopefully that will sort it for ya
[08Mar]Long Camera Picture Image Names
On some ICS ROMs the images file names are kinda long and weird: IMAG0207-1330595925228.jpg
If you navigate to data/data/com.android.camera/shared prefs you'll see a file named com.android.camera_preferences.xml.
In this file you can adjust some setting and in oneder to have the correct file naming back I needed to change the numbers in line: <string name="counter_imagefolder">225</string>.
Adjust this, reboot and the filenames became normal again.
Thanks to BioTecK for the fix.
[30Jan]USB Disk Mode = Sense Crash
If you using the phone in usb disk mode and keep getting sense crashing and restarting, Go to settings>apps>On SD card and untick everything there. Having apps on the sd card is forcing sense to close. Thanks to joaquinfernandezcarvajal for the fix.
Further to this Jonny has found another fix, if you downgrade Rosie.apk file to the one from 3.12.401 base and the issues are gone. Get a flashable version HERE.
[28Jan]Ringtones dont stick on reboot
If your having problems with ringtones sticking on reboot, seems to be especially a problem for custom ringtones, create a new soundset with the ringtone in and that will sort it for ya thanks to malybru for the fix.
[27Jan]Google Navigation Voice Issues
If you're having issues with voice distortion in google navigation, check out dfwcomputer's fix HERE.
[25Jan]ROM Based on android 4.0.3 Wont Boot Ever
Make sure you've flashed the latest firmware and HBOOT (1.23) this is required for the latest Android version ROMs to function. I highly recommend you make your phone superCID to save you getting half way through the update and being warned "incorrect CID / MID" See Mike1986's firmware thread HERE. For more info see start of this post. If your using a Sense 3.6 based rom you'll need the latest firmware which is based on HBOOT 1.27. Have a good read of Mike's thread for info.
[25Jan]Sense 3.6 Browser flicker
If your fed up with the disco effect of the new browser included in Sense 3.6 check This Post out for a fix. Its basically downgrading the browser to fix. I'll make a flashable version a little later. Thanks to rddocke for the fix and thanks for joaquinfernandezcarvajal for finding the post for me!
For flashable version of this fix Sense 3.6 Browser Patch,
to remove Remove Sense 3.6 Browser Patch. Thanks to dfwcomputer for making flashable version of this.
[25Jan]Apps and games owned by this account will appear here error
If your getting this error in the market check out joaquinfernandezcarvajal's post HERE.
[25Jan]Update - Firmware
Yes more firmware is out for the newest leak which is again based on Android 4.0.3 but this time its Sense 3.6. The latest firmware package is required for Sense 3.6 ROMs to work, if you dont have it, it wont boot! check out Mike's Firmware thread for this new firmware based on HBOOT 1.27.
So in Summary:
Android 4.0.1 ROMs need HBOOT 1.20
Android 4.0.3 Sense 3.5 ROMs need HBOOT 1.23 (firmware package 3.12)
Android 4.0.3 Sense 3.6 ROMs need HBOOT 1.27 (firmware package 3.24)
Note its not just HBOOT thats updated in the firmware.
Hope this makes sense, please feel free to ask if your not sure. a lot of into there!
For the love of god check MD5's of the firmware before flashing!!
[10Jan]Wi-Fi Teather Doesnt Work
This is a work around to get the function working.
Downloaded barnacle wifi tether from the market, go into settings and select skip wpa_supplicant. This should then let it work. Thanks to coolkid893 for the fix. Seems to only work as ad-hoc..
[09Jan]Help my HBOOT says **Locked** when I updated to the new firmware
Ignore it, its fine, your still S-off and the bootloader is still unlocked. The only thing thats locked with the new firmware is the ability to perform advanced fastboot commands so flashing splash screens, pushing a radio. It wont affect most normal users, so no need to worry
[09Jan]T-MobileUS Wi-fi Calling Patch
Patch to fix wi-fi calling for T-mobile customers. Zip is for ARHD ROM but there are instructions in the post for how to make it for other roms. Thanks to casper200519 for creating this fix.
Post is HERE.
[09Jan]Wi-Fi Sleep Policy
Seems to be a bug where the Wi-Fi sleep policy settings are reversed. Selecting "Never" sets you to "Always", selecting "Always" sets you to "Never". No fix for this but something to be aware of. Thanks to PaulGiz for pointing this out. This doesnt seem to be the case for French phones. thanks yepayepa for the extra info on this.
[09Jan]Turning on Wi-Fi gives an error after flashing hacked Kernel
This seems to happen if you flash the 4.0.1 kernel on a 4.0.3 ROM, make sure you've flashed the correct kernel for your ROM base and cleared both cache and dalivk after flashing.
[07Jan]Update - Firmware
New android leak 4.0.3 is now on the forums. Along with this there is a new firmware (including hboot 1.23) and new radio (11.65.3504.00U_11.19.3504.29_2) you must have the new firmware package to use android 4.0.3 ROMs, if they wont boot thats your problem. All other info above still stands, just a newer hboot and radio.
If you dont want to be SuperCID flash Mike's Latest ICS Firmware (No need to SuperCID)<-- that package allows most CIDs to flash without having to Super CID your phone. Big thanks to Kohr-Ah for putting together the huge list!
[07Jan]Can I use a custom kernel to OC?
All Gingerbread customer kernels dont work.
ICS Hex edited kernels to allow faster GPU and 1.5GHz on non-XE phones.
See the thread HERE thanks to SebastianFM for this!
[07Jan]Contact pictures dont all download from facebook etc
See HERE for a fix which seems to work perfectly. details for new rom installs and if your already setup and still having issues. thanks to wmoore and lee1019 for the fix.
[04Jan]General Speed / FC Fix
In the leaked RUU was other firmware for various phone partitions which after flashing has been reported that it improves general phone speed and stability. The firmware was extracted form the RUU and uploaded HERE. thanks to Mike1986 for this. The firmware here will also update your radio to the latest (11.59.3504.00U_11.16.3504.16) you will need to be superCID to flash this so make sure you are first. Info on how to superCID HERE. Please read through the thread to make sure you unerstand whats your flashing and ask if u dont know before u flash. This will update your HBOOT to 1.20 and it will read "locked" on the HBOOT screen but panic not, your still S-off, you just wont be able to use advanced fastboot commands unless u downgrade to HBOOT 1.17 HERE, however HBOOT 1.20 is needed for stable use of the latest radio. This is a onetime thing, you can flash and thats it, changing ROM wont change the firmware.
[30Dec]I cant select my carrier on first boot??
This seems to be a bug where all carrier info on first boot is blank.
If you click to select the text will become visible, you'll have to click each to find your carrier.
[30Dec]Fix Unable to set wallpaper / find photos in gallery
to fix this do the following:
1) boot into recovery
2) go to tools and do fix permissions
3) again in tools select file system check
(Note this is using 4ext recovery - not sure how to do it in CWM)
reboot and that should fix it..
4) if you still have problems try updating the super user bineries in the SU app under settings.
5) still having problems reboot into recovery and try another fix permissions
6) still problems, clear data for music and galery in app manager.
7) still not getting anywhere install 3D Gallery from the market, this has solved it for some. Thanks for deem1 for the tip.
[30Dec]Can see Gallery pics but still cant set wallpapers
1) go into gallery
2) long press the pic you want for the back ground and set it to wallpaper
Thanks to stroobach for this.
3) If that doesnt help try disabling force GPU Rendering (reverse the steps lower down)
thanks to denis111 for this fix.
[30Dec]General SD card problems
If your getting general slow SD card, issues with content on there being read, backup the importent stuff like photos etc and format SD card, seems the old android files on SD card may be messing things up. thanks orihuri for the tip.
If this didnt help and your still having prolems with slow SD card speeds download sd booster from the market and set the cache to 3000+ thanks to lws803 for the tip.
[30Dec]Wallpaper FC loop
It happens when you place a 3rd party app on the bottom dock. The Wallpaper that force closing is the lock screen, if you change to the weather lockscreen that will start FCing as well. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to fix it, only how to prevent it.
Thanks to groovechild for the info.
[30Dec]Changing lock screen shortcut apps
Well you cant, sort of, the lock screen aps reflect the apps shortcuts you have on the bottom of the homescreen, change them and you'll updat the lockscreen apps.
[30Dec]My phone isnt booting after first flashing the new ROM
First boot does take bloody ages, if you get to like 20/30 mins pull the battery and it will boot straight away, seems to be getting stuck for some people. for most when it works its 5/10 mins for first boot..
[30Dec]How to force Hardware Acceleration
1) settings
2) devolp option
3) tick force GPU rendering
However before u go forcing it on read THIS Ive seen it cause some issues in a couple of my apps.. thanks Azkabor for highlighting this.
[30Dec]Im getting terrible signal
Make sure you either flash the radio recomended by the ROM developer or if your using a different radio, flash the matched RIL file.
Check out mf2112's fantastic Radio / RIL Thread for a guide and all the files you'll need. Find it HERE.
[30Dec]After going into power saving for low battery my buttons dont vibrate!
seems sometimes u have to re-enable this after the power save turns it off, annoying i know, its located in the strangest place:
1) settings
2) sound settings
3) vibrate feedback - tick it!
[30Dec]The Market isnt working
If you're having problems downloading from the market on first boot, restarting the phone should sort it out.
thanks to mbatson for tip.
[30Dec]Im really in the mood for some ICS wallpapers, what should i do?
Go here
[30Dec]Music Player Force Closes
Changing skins seemed to be the problem with music player. Going back to default skin seems to fix.
thanks to AGunz82 for this solution.
[30Dec]Reduce Lag - Force CPU1 Online
1) Install system tuner from marker
2) open system tuner
3) tweaks - cpu - boot settings - active tweaks - force all cpus online - on boot completed
4) now reboot and enjoy the faster experience
Thanks to stroobach.
This will cause more of a battery drain, might not be a big drain though. report any issues.
To make things smoother, see the tips in this post seems to help make things really smooth, some tips for editing your build.prop. thanks to lyrical1278 for the info.
[30Dec]Some apps dont work
If your problem is some apps look like THIS try disabling force GPU acceleration, that should fix it.
[30Dec]Small MMS
This is a possible fix, V2 seems to solve it for some, let me know more feedback.
Note this is only for people in USA on Sensation 4G
thanks schoei1& djdant for the info.
Download and flash THIS
If your no in USA or your still having small MMS try THIS thanks djdant for finding this.
[30Dec]MMS wont send on Stock AOSP Messaging App
Only found a fix for TMobile people now but i'll have a look at whats done and see if i can make a flashable zip for all.
See HERE thanks to Ducter for figuring this out.
To use, go to the market and download APN Back up restore, create a folder on your sd called ApnBackupRestore exactly as typed. Unzip the attached xml into that directory, start the app and delete apns, then restore using the one provided, reboot and enjoy MMS, sometimes it may take like a minute to send, but it does.
- Someone please let me know if this works for non t-mobile people
- Further fix for T-Mobile people see HEREthanks to Shagman68 (cant find the original post)
[30Dec]Getting FC in Security Settings
If you have an exchange account that requires a Device Admin and use a pin it seems once removed, the security settings worked without a problem. Its a workaround at least, thanks cortez.i for this.
[30Dec]Voice Search Not Working
Try HERE Not tested yet so let me know.
Thanks to lws803
[30Dec]Im using the stock ICS launcher and now i cant add widgets

You can now place widgets from here onto the launcher.
[30Dec]APM for ICS
Thanks to the RCMix Team, this is a work in progress from their ICS ROM Thread. Get it HERE. Flash in recovery, clear cache and dalvik. May not work on 4.0.3.
[30Dec]Improve scrolling
To improve the scrolling in ICS do the following:
Go to your build.prop, edit the following strings to read as follows:
Code:
# Increase overall touch responsiveness
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=150
debug.performance.tuning=1
video.accelerate.hw=1
thanks to rddocke for this info.
Further note - Sense 3.6 based ROMs seem to have this fixed.
Known Bugs (Updated for 4.0.3 ROMs)
These are bugs I cant find a fix for yet:
- Something still up with Wi-Fi some not getting any signal
- issues with gallery for some even with all tips above
- music player FC'ing for some <--Fixed in Sense 3.6
- Going into security in settings give FC <--Fixed in Sense 3.6
- Small MMS
- UOT Kitchen mods dont work and the kitchen cant cook new ones (yet)
- Bluetooth Won't allow PAB Access, nor prompt for it, generally seems to be a bit hit and miss
- Browser Bookmarks do not work - Causes FC.
- Bookmark widget has bookmarks but will not create thumbnails
- Cant add app through personalize app, work around by using long press from app draw.
- Wi-Fi hotspot doesnt work, will turn on but thats it, wont give IP address to clients.
- Premium Navigation doesnt work.
- Exchange sync for hotmail (and maybe others) doesnt keep some custom settings e.g update schedule and download past mail.
- Stock and 1.5GHz kernels both seem to be a tad buggy, some reboots. Seems to be mainly when CPU1 comes online when phone is really working hard! Maybe fixed in later hacked kernels.
-HTC Sync app is now present and some aspects work, but calender doesn't
- Error when restoring contacts from SD card "Failed to parse Vcard for unexpected reason(File ended during parsing BASE 64 binary)"
- When I try to take a photo with an effect, the camera takes the picture, but then FC's. And the picture doesn't get saved in the gallery.
- Skype doesnt work for video calling, you can see them but they get a green screen. Audio is fine.
- Blue Hue on Sense 3.6 using Acer manufactured screen. See HERE for info.
ICS Mods
Please note that Themes seem to be a bit picky, Android 4.0.1 will only work on 4.0.1. Android 4.0.3, Sense 3.5 will only work on that base. Sense 3.6 seems to again need something specific.
Remove sense and install stock APKs
Full flashable mod in 2nd post, im working on splitting things out where possible..

Stock ICS AOSP Apps
(Open Beta)
Version 4.4
(28Jan12) - Sense 3.6 compatable
Ok This is a little mod myself and Mox123 have been working on to allow any ROM to be turned into AOSP, so you keep the rom you love but without all the HTC applications, its basically a way of de-sensing your ROM.
Once things are working fine and i understnad what goes with what im planning on making seperate packs so you can flash stock messaging app, or stock calendar etc etc.
Im not responsible if your house blows up, your cheese goes mouldy or anything else if you flash this..
Note this is only for use on ICS 4.0.3 Sense 3.6 builds, dont try and flash it on gingerbread or your phone wont boot and i wont be impreseed..

- Messaging App
- Dialer
- Launcher
- Contacts app
- Gallery
- Music app

Clear cache
thats about it!
would like to hear some feedback!
If you already installed an earlier version should be fine just to flash this over it.
Please note the first boot will be laggy while things unpack, give it a moment to get going!
If you flash and dont like it, ive made a flashable zip to remove the mod and take you back to stock HTC ICS build {Coming Soon} for now if you want to remove the mod, reflash the original rom you were on when you applied the mod and it will remove it for u but keep your data.
Thanks to Mike1986, these apks are from the ARHD ROM but should work for any ROM to return you to HTC Stock ICS

that seems to have fixed it for most, after doing all above, reboot and try and do another fix permissions (seems to take longer)
if that doesnt work, try and take a photo and see if it can read that, just to make sure it can read your SD card ok.
otherwise backup and re-format SD card..

thanks for testing, i'll update the OP
Been reports that after running no-sense script it causes picture gallery loss? Verification?
gallery is working fine
you may need to fix permissions in your recovery under recovery tools option
really looking to get the stock call, people and camera app is this possible?
If i remove Sense, can i just reflash my ROM to get it back?

May be off topic, but, some of the games seem not to work on these leaked version of ics, like samurai vengeance, and shadowgun, both lately optimized for sensation, even tho I didn't try em with chainfire am afraid it may not work either, any word if chainfire works on sense ics?
Thanks in advanced

Tutorial if you DONT have 4.0 / Updated HBOOT
Update your recovery.
Check HBOOT version is 1.7 or below
Boot to recovery.
Flash stock ZIP file which is included in ZIP file.
Tutorial if you DONT have 4.0 / Updated HBOOT
You need S-OFF and HBOOT 7.0. If you have HBOOT 6.8 follow steps 2
- Rename the file PG88IMG_hboot7.0.zip to PG88IMG.zip. Follow Steps (4-7)
- If you have HBOOT 7.0 and S-OFF. Flash this PG88IMG_SAGA_ICS.zip.
- Place on root of SD Card.
- Turn phone off.
- Boot with Vol Down and Power to enter Fastboot (or adb reboot bootloader)
- Press vol key. That will start update of HBOOT. Restart at step 3
- After you have HBOOT 7.0 and HTC 4.0, you must flash a new recovery.
- There is a file for every OS (ends in .bat -> Windows, etc)
- Double check that file for your OS and it'll flash a new recovery.
- Then flash MIUI ZIP via Recovery

Can you just put the boot.img so that miuiandroid users can use the rom directly
On Miui.com thread a guy posted the boot.img.
But you need to download from here :http://115.com/file/an6ehsht
Last 2012-8-4 21:46 HeavenDemon

I cannot connect to WiFi using the rom. Tried with different kernels. Anybody have the same experience?
I installed the Rom with Tutorial but still have Superuser and same FC installing any apk file problems..
show black screen after flash rom ,what i do
Thanks for posting.
No problems downloading and it runs well, I don't know why others have problems...The only thing I encountered was the WiFi not being able to connect as ADHOC, I flashed another supplicant and it shows the network but will never even try to connect..Also reboot into recovery option? I'm surprised there wasn't one. The default launcher (personal taste) completely sucks, trebuchet? Some good features such as access flashlight from lockscreen (my favorite) and configurable back button to kill delay, excellent!! and a few other small things.

I am Chinese, I want to show something I read from miui.com forum for desire s.
1. For wifi cannot connect as adhoc, this is because miui remove this feature from v4, so all the official miui v4 devices do not support this feature at all.
2. The rom is based on HTC China 4.0 OTA, not CM9, so the size is increase strangely.
3. There are some UIs with HTC Sense included, the bug is reported to miui dev team, but no response.
4. Some people have the networklocation apk fc, it's because miui use baidu apk for location, not google.
5. Some people said the rom is extremely un-smooth (maybe I use the wrong word), especially when sliding icons on desktop and open folders.
6. The GPU 2d accelerate is disabled by miui dev team because of the issue from the Qualcomm chip. (But the port version can enable this)
7. After pressing home button to return to desktop, the rom reflection is very very slow.
These bugs are found by miui forum, can any devs fix them? Especially for 3,4,5,6,7:angel:

[Q] Full Arabic Support in ICS Stock Rom from HTCDev ??

Hello all,
Months ago, the official Ice Cream Sandwich stock ROM was put on the HTCDev website for download to update the Desire S. But only the WWE version. I had been waiting for an ARA version - which is for the Arabic region - but apparently there will not be any, Just this WWE ROM.
I Downloaded the ROM file, extracted it, and explored the system.img file. I found, included, in fonts folder the DroidNaskh font which I know is for Arabic letters. I then contacted HTC and asked them about full Arabic support, they replied that I can read only!
Now I've two questions:
1) Is that even true? That I will be able to read, and not that crappy unlinked letters Arabic.
2) Will I ever be able to write Arabic without rooting?
Anybodyyyyyy !
Guess I have to check out for myself..
YES... Arabic works perfectly with any 3rd party keyboard - that supports Arabic of course.
I'm using Smart Keyboard.
Read / Write... 100% Working.
Well, I Thank me then
Allow Me
Well.. I've tried to thank you for the info, but since you started the thread you can't be thanked...
Now I'd like to ask you a couple more questions, since I'm about to take the dip myself.
1. You're talking about the RUU found on HTCDev right?
2. What about the installed software? Is all lost once you upgrade?
3. Contacts/SMS's are they lost too? Any recommendations on a Backup/Restore tool that really works?
Thanks Again!
1. Yes I'm talking about the RUU from HTCDev, It's size is close to 400 mb.
2. RUU updates is different from OTA updates (the ones your phone notifies you about)... So, yes you will lose all your data.
3. For SMS I used SMS Backup & Restore ana it is really great app. My contacts are synced woth my gmail account so I didn't have to use any special application, but in general - there is an option built into gingerbread that will backup your contacts to the sd card, go to the people app and from the menu choose backup. Similarly, you can restore them back from the people app in ICS.
It's a very easy process and you don't have to worrt about anything, however, I found that it's slower than gingerbread and I flashed a custom ROM after three days. I flashed ViperSAGA which is far better than this update. But, well, it is my personal opinion just try for yourself.
You're very much welcome.
