Long time ago I had a rooted Desire S. I flashed a Rom and the Rom installation was aborted. After that I couldn't flash any Rom. So I decided to get back to stock rom. After trying to install the Ruu with Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0 the phone stuck in bootloader with secrurity warning.
Last week I installed the Ruu with ICS and it worked. Now I've got that Relocked in bootloader
Now I want to know how I can root my Desire S again because I read that you can't root a phone with the normal way (htc.dev, downgrade, install old Ruu etc.)
How can I root my DS with that ***Relocked*** in the bootloader?
(Sorry for my bad English)
Do your research.
Htc-dev unlock. Custom recovery. SuperSU or SuperUser.

I just updated OTA update to android 2.3.5 htc sense 3
software ver 2.15.707.2
however when i rebooted the actual system is the same as sense 2.5, there is no sense 3.0. software info says 3 & there is no more OTA updates available
I unlocked the bootloader from htcdev & installed clock work mod to root the phone
I am now trying to install RUU_Saga_S_HKCSL_CHT_2.15.832.5_Radio_20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_229399_signed.exe
however I keep getting an error 131 & error 155
any ideas why i can not install any rom , the phone is rooted and boot loader unlocked.
Relock bootloader and no more errors

sorry should have mentioned, boot loader was relocked as per the htc guide
still getting the errors when running the ruu rom
seeing as though the phone software version is different to the rom im updating, and the phone has its boot loader unlocked & rooted. I should be able to install it right?
You have tryed misc_version? ? And then update with roo?

Hi,
I´ve been reading through the forum for the past days, but still a lil bit confused about the procedure. Some threads say no you must do it like this, the other thread says under no circumstances do it like the way in the other thread....
Desire S:
***Locked***
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0002
Radio 3822.10.08.04_M
Android 2.3.5
SoftwareNr. 2.10.401.8
As far as i understand, first i have to use HTCDev to unlock the bootloader. Then downgradehboot to 98
Next get s-off via Revolutionary and Use SuperOneClick to root?
Final follow instructions to install a custom rom klick ?
Forget something? Or is their any easier way?
Sry for my bad english .
Thanks in advance.
I don't know your hboot, for me it was not necessary to downgrade.
But so far you're plan sounds good just backup everything before flashing a new ROM

If I root my DS, using this guide, i'll be able to install ALL custom ROMs?
I unlocked Bootloader via HTCDev, flashed 4EXTRecovery, flashed SuperUser via recovery. When i tried to flash Virtuous Unity, device stucked at HTC logo.
If I use that guide, will i be able to flash custom ROM?
@3st
You don't need to use HTCdev to downgrade.
By using HTCdev you are possible screwing your warranty.
So to simplify,
Option 1) Use HTCdev to unlock, then install custom recovery, then either root or install a rom using recovery.
Option 2) Downgrade, then use Revolutionary to s-off and install a custom recovery, then as above either root or flash rom with recovery.

when you unlock via htcdev you need to flash the boot.img separately when flashing a custom ROM.

Okay, i'll try this.
Thx for the answer
There are couple threads in the General section explaing how to downgrade hboot without unlocking at htcdev.com
You should try them first.
eyahl, if i'll want to flash another ROM, i'll have to flash boot.img again?
dmatik, already unlocked, but thanks.I'll watch them

Yep
But you need to flash the boot.img of the new ROM, not the old one you already flashed before. (sounds logically, but some ppl. seem to be not able to think logically...)
Please gimme a thumb up if I helped ;-P

Hello xda users.
I want to root my sensation, and therefor i need to get it from android 4.0.3 to 2.3 so it can be possible for me to do.
My HTC
HTC Sensation Z710e
Android 4.0.3
Sense 3.6
Softwarenumber 3.32.401.5
Here is the thing, ive looked around for hours on filefactory.com
put i cant seem to find a file that can put my sensation back to stock rom, so i can start root it. Could any of you be kind and help an noob out here?
Are you S-ON?
Yes S-on ..
you can root your ICS with S-On
Go to htcDev and unloock your phone
flash in a new recovery using "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" using the recovery.img file extracted from PG58IMG.zip
then using cwr flash the updatede SU
Boom! your root
using htcdev unlock whill wipe all your programs and settings AND void your waranty. and u might brick your phone
AND FYI u cant downgrade your Hboot if u are S-ON and the new 1.27 is imposible at this time to get s-off
i will go do that asap ..
Thank you for your quick answers ..
Best regards

THe line "then using cwr flash the updated SU", can you explain further please?
Use CWM (Clockwork Mod) to flash the SU package - if you don't know how to do that then don't even try
i do know what that is, its just my english isnt that well.
i went to htcDev, and unlocked my sensation.
then i got rom manager on android market and tried Flash Cwr but im stuck at here..

ROM Manager needs root to function, and since you don't have root yet you'll have to flash the recovery through fastboot. Then you can install Superuser through your recovery.
But wait, you want to downgrade to Gingerbread? You won't be able to do that since your device will still be S-ON, and Gingerbread won't boot on HBOOT 1.27 (necessarily for ICS).
So the thing Maydayind said about
"you can root your ICS with S-On"
What did he mean with it ?
Update user Dictionary in Android 4.x
Hello,
Anyone who has an app where you can update many words into the user Dictionary?
Thanks.
Hi,
Just a quick question will I lose Root when flashing to ICS RUU (when available) or will it change my boot loader.
Im already rooted/ Debranded with S-OFF
My config below
You'll most likely lose root and I think it may change your bootloader. Not 100% sure though.
You'll lose root and change bootloader as said but still s-off.
You can root again flashing this zip by Mike1986 from custom recovery (CWM/4EXT).
dnt use the ruu , the stock rooted rom is already posted somewhere in develpment chk tht out
You will not lose root but will lock bootloader.

Firstly, Hello to all, this is my first post over here. I had recently bought a Sensation XE 2 weeks ago after using my SE x10i successfully for 3 years (Which looks more attractive now that I have rooted it and installed a custom ROM, all thanks to XDA ). I decided to root my XE too, but ended up finding out that I had done the OTA update and now the process for S-OFF became a lot more complicated(for a noob like me ofcourse, this is my 2nd root only.).
I used this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21922297#post21922297
First unlocked the bootloader using HTCDev, then installed CWM recovery and then flashed a custom 2.3.3 ROM(Real Stock Experience) given in the guide itself which ended up messing up my camera and wifi. I found out that I could fix these errors if I flashed the boot.img when the bootloader was unlocked by HTCdev itself but till then I had already locked it and used Revolutionary on it. So all I did was backed up my Stock ROM and did a Perm Root as given here in Step 3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Now, everything's fine and I am running a rooted v2.3.4 Android with Revolutionary S-OFF, HBOOT 1.17.1111. But now I want to install a custom ICS ROM in it like COREDROID and ARHD but these require some FIRMWARE update before flashing the ROM's. I have no idea as to how I could do that, sorry to be so nooby, but it's my first time. If someone could tell me how to flash these ROM's properly I would be really thankful!
GunpreetS

Hey man, thanks for the super-fast reply.
I opened up the guide and it is pretty appropriate for my problem, but one question it says HBOOT 1.27 everywhere but I have HBOOT 1.17. What do I do?
You can download the adequate firmware at the dev forum, put the file on your SD card, reboot your device to enter bootloader, and the firmware will auto upgrade.(hboot,radio,etc). Then you can flash custom Rom with recovery.
