Help - can't get into recovery! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I was running SkyICS on my SR i727 without any problem. Yesterday while rebooting the phone the phone froze. I tried to get into recovery to reflash it. Can't get into recovery!
Then I flashed the stock GB through ODIN (did that 2-3 times) Success, rooted, installed 2-3 versions of CWM recovery through ODIN. ODIN everytime shows success and the phone reboots without any problem BUT I can't get into recovery by any means. Tried all button combo, adb reboot recovery, quickboot apk. Most of the time the phone hangs at the Samsung logo. If it hangs a battery pull and I can boot into GB.
I even tried to flash the stock recovery and booting into it. Same problem
I mainly need a custom ROM or CWM to flash RAT unlocked radio so that I can switch 2G/3G.
Please help guys!!

Can I flash a Rogers stock GB ROM through ODIN?

I was able to push the Rogers radio modem using instruction in this thread and is working fine.

But the problem with CWM is still there.
Helllppp plsssss!!

Also, my battery percentage is always showing 100%. Not decreasing with use and suddenly when actually the charge becomes zero the phone switches off. Since, I can't get into recovery I can delete the battery stats.
Is there any other way?

With all the problems sounds like you just have to start from scratch.
Goo into download mode and redo everything. Re flash a stock tar, once that's up and running then go to download mode again and flash CWM.

How many different recoveries have you tried pushing with Odin? When you use Odin do you get the PASS followed be the automatic reboot? And last but not least (sorry if I missed it) what method are you using to boot into recovery

I've tried 3-4 different CWM.
Yes I always get the PASS screen followed by reboot.
I've tried different methos - 3 button combo, reboot recovery command under adb shell and quickboot apk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423071). Same problem everytime. The phone shows a black screen after the samsung logo and nothing responds. Battery pool and I can boot into GB.

I don't have much knowledge about linux but I just tried running e2fsck on the recovery partition. I got the following output:
# e2fsck /dev/block/mmcblk0p22
e2fsck /dev/block/mmcblk0p22
e2fsck 1.41.11 (14-Mar-2010)
ext2fs_check_if_mount: Can't check if filesystem is mounted due to missing mtab
file while determining whether /dev/block/mmcblk0p22 is mounted.
e2fsck: Superblock invalid, trying backup blocks...
e2fsck: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/block/mmcblk0p
22
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>

Can you try starting with the leaked Odin download for ICS ucle2 if I'm correct from there wait for a first full boot do not try to root right away. After try to restart the phone and hold up&down volume rocker with power and see if you get into that recovery first. If you cant even get into that recovery u really messed some issh up.
If you are able to get into that recovery wipe everything then reboot let the phone develope what it needs. then try to flash 1 of these 2 recoveries and see what happens.here are some links incase u done have these there to my dropbox.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you just trying to get it into recovery? If so, do you have the Android software developer kit (SDK) installed? The SDK includes the adb binary. Download it, install it, then open a command prompt, cd to the 'platform-tools' directory where the SDK installed, insure your phone is on & plugged in via USB, and issues the command: adb reboot recovery.
If I'm off-base with what you're trying to accomplish, my apologies.

Don't use a KFx rom, the KF1 and KF2 versions of Gingerbread were really buggy and will give you more trouble than they're worth. You're better off flashing Octane, Valhalla or ICBINB which get updated frequently.

Which also means that you need to flash a KG4 leak or newer for the proper GB bootloaders. If not, you'll get a rainbow screen.
Similar Problem
Hey Guys,
I had a similar problem. I am using Fire Expert to overwrite the new recovery to the \system\bin folder. However, I realized my mistake was that I did not mount as r/w. After I did that though and I held the volume up, down and power, I stay stuck at the initial splash screen and can't go into the stock recovery screen. I can't boot regularly either; I have to Odin recover. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Overwriting the old recovery and putting the update.zip file on the sdcard for CWM Final was for Froyo ROMs only, not Gingerbread (GB) ones. What ROM are you currently on?
In order to get into recovery since flashing the GB boot loaders I have to:
Power off the phone
Hold down Volume Up, Volume Down, and the Power button
When the Galaxy S screen comes on, wait a second, it'll get a tad bit brighter. When that happens let go of only the Power button
Wait a few seconds and you should be in recovery
Sounds like you might be a bit goofed at this point, though. If you were on GB before I'd suggest using one of the ROMs in bhundven's The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection. The last one in the list will also give you root, CWM, and voodoo lagfix.
Hey. Thanks for the quick reply.
I am currently on Froyo, Kernal version 2.6.32.9.

Weird. All you should have to do is put the updated recovery in /system/bin & put the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.
What is the current state of the phone? I know in the previous post you said you would have to use ODIN to recover. Did you do that?
Yes I did use Odin to recover. I did it following the link provided in the sgs4g 10 commandments. This is the second time I recovered. After I recovered he first time, I tried the process again and the same thing happened: stuck at the initial splash screen.

I've not used it but if it allows you to mount /system read/write, then it should work fine as long as you're putting the 'recovery' file in /system/bin & the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.
If you try it again then reboot into recovery, what happens?

[Q] stuck on CWM

Guys, i hope you can help again.
im rooted, running ics by entropy, but i have this annoying issue.
Every time i go to cwm to flash something like beats audio or another modem, i cant get back to my main rom, just keeps rebooting into cwm and even if i select reboot now, just boots again into cwm.
Its annoying because every time i want to install something i have to reinstall the rom from zero.
maybe im missing an application or something.
hope you can help me out.
I too have had this happen, but only when I use adb to reboot into CWM recovery by sending an "adb reboot recovery" to get into recovery. I can make that happen every time, so when running this ICS kernel / recovery, I'm careful to only use the extended power menu or the phone buttons to get to recovery.
Once it happens, the only way to fix in this situation is to re-flash the rom.
Just curious, how are you going into recovery?

Probably related to the same bug in that particular recovery. I may flash CM9 in a little bit to see if I can reproduce that by going from the Rom Manager app. There is an option to get to recovery in the power menu. I'm almost certain that if you use that and/or the phone buttons, you won't have the same issue.
EDIT: I just flashed CM9 to test this, and I can't get the issue to happen when going to recovery from the Rom Manager app. Seems to work like it's supposed to from there. As soon as I issue an "adb reboot recovery", though, the same thing happens: the phone will only reboot to recovery from then on and has to be re-flashed to get to a rom. To be safe with this recovery, though, I'd still suggest only using the option in the power menu or the phone buttons.
YES! I HAVE THE SAME DAMN ISSUE!
Always happens. I have to Odin back to stock then reflash CM9. I don't know how it works from power button but using Rom Manager I get stuck. I "reboot system" now and it gets to Galaxy S/CyanogenMod screen and right back into recovery.

[Q] download mode not working...

I tried searching, but the search is down?
I have spent several hours looking.
I used odin (phone went into download mode without issue) to put my phone back to stock so I could get the ota update.
Went back into download mode with Odin to install CWM, this "passed" and after a restart my phone went into samsung recovery, not CWM.
Now my phone will not go into download mode? I tried different cable, ports, etc.
any help?
so what is it doing since it's not going into download mode.
it wouldn't do anything, I finally reinstalled the drivers and after holding down the power and volume - let go... nothing! push the volume - twice and it went into download mode. Odin recognizes it and goes through the motion, but the phone has a AX_timeout in red at the top left corner of the screen?
Odin continues and say's passed, but when I try to reboot into CWM it hangs on the samsung logo.
It will not boot into recovery, but it will start the phone and everything seems to work.
im using odin 1.83 / windows 7 64bit.
Remove the battery, put the phone in download mode, put the battery back in, and flash CWM. Before you fully boot the OS, flash a custom kernel. If you don't flash a custom kernel, the default kernel will overwrite CWM with the default recovery.

If you happen to flash a ROM that doesn't include the script that the kernel calls for the overwrite, then you could have ended up with CWM on a stock kernel.

There's a script, can't remember where it's at, that is run at boot to replace the recovery. If that script is not there, it doesn't get replaced. All custom roms have it removed.

There is. You can download the Superuser CWM to your phone, flash CWM, boot immediately to CWM (don't let it boot normally), flash Superuser, and reboot.
At that point, if you desire, you can delete /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and reflash CWM if you want to keep it.

[Q] VZW GS3 ODIN and Recovery issues

Hello All - I am a long time viewer of the forum, Recently I noticed an update available for the GS# to 4.2.2. I downloaded the Rom and began my normal process of using ROM Manager to boot into recovery mode to install the latest file. When the update finished applying I was presented with a brief view of the Samsung boot screen and then remained stuck on the Google Boot Screen.
I downloaded a stock firmware to apply with Odin 3.07 but it fails halfway through the write process.
Can someone please give me a hand or point me in a direction if you experienced the same problem.
Also when I try to load into recovery mode the phone screen remains black.
Thanks for any help!
Nick
What rom did you try to upgrade? Link please? And just to verify, do you have a Verizon GSIII?

I tried to download the 4.2.2 file from the following location, rootzwiki - "aokp-d2vzw-jb-mr1-build-4", went through rom manager and now is timing out on the google screen.
I do still have the phone with me currently. Thanks for any help you can provide.
I never use Rom Manager so that's not surprising to me. When you pull the battery then hold power, home, and Up until it vibrates does it boot to recovery? I would suggest flashing through CWM.

I never use Rom Manager so that's not surprising to me. When you pull the battery then hold power, home, and Up until it vibrates does it boot to recovery? I would suggest flashing through CWM.

It may take a few attempts to get it to work since it's fickle sometimes.

Thanks SlimSnoop I have tried roughly 15 times and am still not having any luck, are there any other tools you or anyone can suggest??
Yea, as long as you can boot into download mode then I suggest you utilize Odin and flash a stock image. There are two routes that you can go:
1) Odin flash the Verizon OTA VRBLK3 stock tar from DroidStyle's guide in the dev section. With this method, you would be returned to out of the box VRBLK3 and would need to root/unlock then flash roms again. The Odin tars included here are labeled as wiping /sdcard so be mindful of this.
2) Odin flash a rooted VRBLK3 image from mrRobinson thread. His thread contains Odin flashable rooted tars that are exactly the same as the OTA equivalent except they are rooted already. With this method, you would just need to unlock your bootloader using EZ Unlock v1.2 before flashing any custom roms. There's two versions of each rooted image here, one that wipes /sdcard and one that does not. So if you download the one labeled as wiping /sdcard all of your contents will be completely erased.

[Q] I9003 would not get past 'Samsung boot logo'

Hello mates, I have a I9003 which would not get past the 'Samsung' boot logo. I already tried flashing a stock ROM from sammobile.com but still the problem persists.
Tried PIT+BOOTLOADER+MODEM+PHONE+CSC,
MODEM+PHONE+CSC,
PIT+PDA (ONE FILE PACKAGE)
ONLY PDA (ONE FILE PACKAGE)
Nothing works, it is still stuck. I cannot wipe data/factory reset since I can't access stock recovery. Though going to download mode is not a problem.
Any fix for this? Or should I flash another stock ROM?
Try without sim card and flash cf root after full ddlf.

I have made some progress, I think. While after flashing CF-Root for DDLF2 after clean installing it, I've waited for the phone to boot.
Now, it booted to the same Samsung I9003 boot animation, but after a while, I think it booted into recovery and started to wipe/install, though I'm not sure because the texts were going fast.
One thing I remembered was something with unable to mount /data among others. I saw other yellow texts, and also red texts, which seems to be errors (since I've used a CWM with other phones a couple of times).
After that, it got stuck to like a loading icon, like what you see when a video is buffering in Youtube, then reboots after a while to a stuck Samsung I9003 boot animation again.
Please help me mates, would be highly appreciated.
Without sim and external sdcard try to go to recovery and wipe user data and then boot.

The thing is, I cannot boot to recovery mode with the 3 button combo. Only download mode mate.
Is there anything that I could flash in Odin that would reboot the phone to recovery mode?

Try flashing BCK CF-root universal. I think there was a beta 15rc7 version somewhere in the BAM kernel thread. It does include a recovery.
Only for GB ROMs, not Kitkat/JB ones.

I actually did that earlier, but the thing is as I've said is that I cannot boot to recovery with the 3-button combo. What I was hoping for is a file or kernel or anything that would automatically reboot the phone to 'recovery mode' after flashing it through Odin.

Well, that worked after flashing a stock ROM with .pit on I9100, though I don't know about the I9003

ADB would not work with a phone stuck phone. Recovery I think is my only change.

ADB wont work from download mode.
I'm sure you've tried this before, but can you try flashing complete ddlf2 package from here.
This has never failed me, yet. It's my fallback if everything else doesn't work.
All the best

I'll try in a bit after DLing the package. Should I flash this several times to work? Should I flash once with PIT and BL, then just CSC, PHONE, and MODEM?

Flash all 5 at the same time. See the snapshot shown in that thread.
Also, try a different odin version (i think 1.85 worked best for me) if it fails.

Flashed it and it actually booted to recovery mode. I'll list some of the errors that arose:
E:/format_volume:rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
Data wipe failed
Also tried the 'apply update from sdcard', and shows:
E:/failed to mount /sdcard (File exists)
E:/failed to mount /sdcard (Invalid argument)
Now I'll try to flash CWM to it and hopefully boots to recovery again and flash a custom ROM :fingers-crossed:
Well, I think another progress has been made, after flashing the DDLF2 firmware again, I waited for about 7 minutes and it got past the Samsung I9003 boot logo, and it goes to the Samsung boot animation, and after that, stuck at a boot loop.
Check it

So maybe the internal mmc is corrupted. I'm not sure one to follow but definitely not the one with the wonder go program since how can I enable USB debugging if it won't even boot. Should I try to flash DDLF2 with inserting a microSD card? Or should I remove the internal mmc, which I've read in another thread was kind of successful but a little hazardous.
Try to flash froyo 2.2 with pit. Logic is to reformat the structure of the memory.

I really appreciate the help mate. Would you refer me to a link for the 2.2 stock ROMs? As I only find GB firmwares, mostly old stock ROM links are down.
May find here
