installing stock RUU - HTC Desire S

Hi,
I know there are already a lot of topics about this, but I did not find anything that could help me.
I am trying to get back to the stock android version of my HTC desire s but whatever RUU I try to install is giving me an error I cant seem to figure out.
First I installed a custom ROM using this guide (with reaper v3): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
Now I want to return to the stock android version of my phone using a RUU I found on HTC DEV.
This shows me an errormessage on my computer (Install could not complete or something)
And when I pull out the USB cord My phone shows "RUU Security Fail! Update Fail!"
I think that the kernel version I have installed following that guide I mentioned is somehow the cause of this.
Could I solve this by flashing a stock kernel and then executing a stock RUU?
If yes, where would I find one?
If no, any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Follow my guide for downgrading if you will. Check my sig.

I think you should flash your original RUU for restore related condition to original status, and then flash another RUU.
Also suggest you can try to flash it via fastboot,.

How do I flash an .exe? Or where do I find a zip for my RUU?
The problem is also that I don't know exactly which RUU I had before I started with custom ROMS

To flash an .exe, click twice on it.
To check your cid :
fastboot getvar cidnum
Be sure the RUU matches it.

[RESOLVED] ics firmware did update hboot, didn't flashed radio

Hey guys,
any ideas on this.
I used the PG58IMG.zip with the new firmware update for only the hboot and radio. The hboot was flashed, i'm now on "locked" 1.20.... but the radio "11.." wasn't flashed. Now i'm having issues with some dialer stuff and net connectivities. So my guess is i need to flash the new radio file.
The thing is i can't flash the radio anymore. fastboot won't work on this new hboot, and i can't use the PG58IMG files anymore.
When trying to use a PG58IMG file, i'm getting the cid error.
RESOLVED:
fastboot cid commands still work on hboot 1.20, just get your phone into hboot, and try supercid, this worked for me.

there is a thread somewhere on here with a tut on how to get back to hboot old unlocked hboot so you can flash new radio then flash new hboot

i'm switching between all options, but it is known that hboot 1.20... doesn't support fastboot yet, so that's something else.
for now i'm back to gingerbread, but i really liked ics, let's hope somebody will find a way to use fastboot on 1.20...
give it a try put downloaded zip on root of sd card go into bootloader and phone should see file and flash.
this is just what i have read on the ICS firmware thread.

yeah it sees the update, it's trying to auto install, can't choose yes or no, it's just scanning for the PG files and when it's trying to install the zip file it stops with a incorrect cid error.
install complete ruu (released by rc team), that'll install everything including radio, after that install any custom ICS rom you like, i found this method safest.
be sure to super cid your phone.

Well, you can always unlock the bootloader with htcdev. Then you can use fastboot again.

Here's some advice. I was having the same problem you were. What I realized was that I was unable to check my cid or use fastboot options because I was running a ics Rom which breaks fastboot. I'm tmous and my cid wasn't in firmware by default. So after trying to flash the update I ended up with the updated hboot 1.20 that said locked (supposedly just says locked but really isnt) I kept reading every page of the firmware thread and I found someone who added the tmous cid to the firmware update and posted a drop box link which worked like a charm. I reflashed that one and now I have new radio and firmware and my phone is much smoother. Hopefully this works for you as it sounds like exactly what I went thru. Going to go find you the link now

[Q] Update being blocked?

Hey,
[i'm new here, but i couldn't find a post with this exact problem]
I've been using my HTC Sensation rooted for about 8 months now on 2.3.4/5, and with ICS officially being released i want to update to ICS.
I do have my phone rooted but i do not have any custom roms installed.
In theory it should just update OTA to ICS but when i try to update it my phone reboots and then it gives me this image of an android mascot besides a warning mark (the image didn't work.). Is this superuser blocking the update?
Now i'm wondering what is the best way to get ICS update to work.
At this moment i don't care if i lose the root on my device.
I've been thinking about flashing it so that it would remove the root, make it S-on and remove superuser. (basically make it like it was when i bought it.) and then updating it to ICS.
Any help with my problem or on how to handle the flashing will be appreciated.
If you're rooted, download 4EXT updater, flash 4EXT recovery, flash the 3.32 firmware, then flash an ICS rom.
If i'm correct that will give me a custom rom.
And at the moment i would like to keep the rom stock because i would like all the options to work.
If i'm wrong and it will update to stock rom, then i'll give it a go.
Otherwise is there a way to update to stock rom?
You can't be rooted to flash the OTA, and you HAVE to have the stock recovery too
alright so i need to unroot the phone and somehow manage to uninstall superuser (if it doesn't uninstall with the unrooting).
So my question then is,
Is this possible to unroot the device?
Maybe someone can link me to a good tutorial ?
You need to restore stock recovery and your oringinal Rom intact ( not delete apps in the stock rom). Stock recovery can be obtained from RUU.
Or just flash New firmware and custom Rom if your phone is s-off.

alright, can i use any vodafone stock recovery for my device?
and is there a tutorial around? for noobs like me?

Guide for debranding or going back to stock.
Basically you need to download your stock RUU and go back to your original CID (if you supercided).
The guide basically covers almost all your concern in returning to stock rom and recovery.

i'll give that a go tomorrow and let you guys know what happend.
[dumb noob question!! this should make my phone look like it was when it came out of the box right?]
If i'm correct i need a RUU.
Is it possible to do this tutorial using the OTA update file i got for the ICS update?
Update
So,,
After 2 days of trying to download a good RUU file.
I still don't have it, filefactory always says that the free download slots are all taken.
So i would love if someone could tell me if it is possible to just flash the update file called:
OTA_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5_R-1.50.401_release_252072fll6erqo75dsziua.zip
I would appreciate a reply telling me if this is possible or why it is not possible.
As said, you need to be on a stock unrooted rom and stock recovery.
Is your phone branded or unbranded. What RUU were you trying to download? 1.50.401.1 or else?
Also, did you supercid or not? if yes, you need to go back to original CID to get OTA.
Do not attempt do flash the OTA.zip from a custom recovery because it will fail.
I have RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.50.401.1_R_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2_release_228602_signed wich is the latest GB for european unbranded devices. If this is what you are looking for, I could upload it for you. Let me know.
@kualmente
I would appreciate it if you could upload your RUU so i can use it.
As for the phone,
I still have stock rom and recovery, i only rooted it and did supercid.
So when i have a RUU file for my unbranded Sensation i can follow this toturial:

[Q] Please help me fix my sensation xe!

Hi, firstly I apologise for being an idiot.
I rooted my XE last week and have been trying to install ROMs onto it since. I followed numerous guides (not very well apparently) and still cannot get it to work. The problem being every ROM i try to flash after it has installed, during the reboot the white htc screen comes up over and over again.
I've tried numerous ROMs, stock ROMs and nothing has worked. I tried to locate the original backup I made but it seems to be gone too
Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I've blown a couple of hundred quid.
Do you know how to run a log cat and post the results as this would help people help you better. But then again there is always the option to just download the correct RUU for your Sensation, flash the stock ROM with it, and then start all over.

What / how would I start all over if I had the correct RUU and ROM (both of which I think I have). The RUU is an exe file? Is that correct and the ROM I just put on the root of my SD?
Grrrrr. I feel very stupid, usually nae bad at techy stuff!
Yes the RUU is a .exe file that will flash the stock ROM to your Sensation, notice I said stock ROM wich means you will not be rooted anymore, you will have the stock recovery again, and you will more than likely be S-on again. This is why I said you would have to start over again if you use the RUU.
The ROM does go on your SD card but if it is a stock ROM you will have to have the stock recovery to flash it, if it is a custom ROM you will have to have S-off and a custom recovery.

When I run the RUU it comes up with current image version: 1.73.401.2

It sounds like you may have the wrong RUU, who is your carrier and what is the region did your Sensation originate from. This is the information you need to get your correct RUU.

Ok if it is from the UK you probably need the "RUU_Pyramid_O2_UK_1.34.206.1_Radio_10.43a.9007.00U_10.51.9007.27_M", you can find it here. Remeber you will have to have the HTC Sync drivers installed on your computer, and you will have to boot into the Hboot then the bootloader and connect your Sensation via USB to your computer before running the RUU.

When you have the RUU, run it without a device first. When the first window of the RUU opens, drag it to the side of your screen, open Explorer and search your windows drive for "rom.zip". When you find it copy it to another location and close the RUU window.
Open rom.zip archive and you will find a file called "android-info.txt" open it and see if your cid is listed there. If it is present you can flash this RUU safely.

Thanks for your help, but it's not there. Is there any way to restore DS without this RUU? It's bootloader unlocked, rooted, has the custom recovery. unfortunately the "misc version" was not uploaded in adb mode, thus I cannot change the main version, to be able to downgrade it. But since the main version is "too high" (2.10.161.5) and there is no adb mode and I dont have the original RUU there is nothing to do. Is it possible somehow to change the main version in fastboot???? I think this would be the only chance without the the ruu.

Guess you forgot to fastboot flash boot boot.img
Also, why would you need a RUU anyway? You can still enter recovery, can't you? Heck, of course you can: even if you couldn't you could always fastboot flash recovery recovery.img a working one.
I fail to see why a RUU would be necessary here.

Hello all,
So finally, I have managed to S-OFF my phone using JuonoputBear (I never get this spelling right!). Downloaded the latest version for Ubuntu and can't believe I only did the wire trick once and it was done.
But anynow, to my surprise, the JB tool went on installing the JB hboot itself. Initially I thought it would ask me to install it or not and I would refuse it but... it didn't even give me the option. So now I am stuck with the JB hboot which I dont want.
So the questions is, is there any way I can revert back to the stock hboot?
Thanks guys, all your help made it possible for me to S-OFF my phone.
Regards
just to know that with patched hboot you are fully unlocked and you can use all fastboot commands
i don't find a reason to return to official hboot

Thanks for the reply. The reason I wanted to go back to stock hboot was that its highly unlikely that I would be using those extra fastboot commands. Besides, I dont like the Juoponutbear logo on top of the hboot.
Also, now that I am S-OFF, I am kind of gone sensitive to installing any ROM. I intend to install Android Revolution HD ROM but I dont want to flash anything wrong on my device like Radio etc. I only want to flash whats need to run that new custom ROM. I guess that doesn't include the kernel as I already have ICS stock ROM.
Can anyone point me to the right direction? Where I can find the steps to install custom ROM without any risk of flashing something wrong?
Thanks.

Hi,
There is no way you can "Accidently" install a radio.
You are not in bootloader for any length of time normally,so ,it should not matter what is written at the top.
That is just the way Juoponutbear operates and leaves it's mark.
It is the only way to s-off for you,so ,you are stuck with it.
Unless you s-on again.
As for flashing ROMS,put it on the root of your sd card, choose zip, install zip.
That's it.
EDIT:
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
If you flash Kohr-Ah's Universal 3.33 firmware, does it say Universal at the top?

Is that all? I thought that once you have flashed the zip package, you have to extract the "boot.img" from that zip package of the ROM and flash it separately?

Hi,
That is the beauty of s-off.
No separate flashing.

Sorry I had to come back on this one. I was checking the Android Rev. HD thread and in the download section it said it is necessary to flash new firmware package before flashing this ROM/ And the firmware package also contains radio flashing.
Since I am on Stock ICS at the moment and my firmware is 3.32. Do I still need to flash my firmware?
