When you have the RUU, run it without a device first. When the first window of the RUU opens, drag it to the side of your screen, open Explorer and search your windows drive for "rom.zip". When you find it copy it to another location and close the RUU window.
Open rom.zip archive and you will find a file called "android-info.txt" open it and see if your cid is listed there. If it is present you can flash this RUU safely.

Yep, it's in there. Thank you guys!

What is the significance of HBOOT Preupdate? All the RUUs have a Preupdate value 13, my phone has a Preupdate value of 12. That doesn't matter probably?

Try this, not sure if the ruu is there but is one of the few sites still open

Thanks for your help, but it's not there. Is there any way to restore DS without this RUU? It's bootloader unlocked, rooted, has the custom recovery. unfortunately the "misc version" was not uploaded in adb mode, thus I cannot change the main version, to be able to downgrade it. But since the main version is "too high" (2.10.161.5) and there is no adb mode and I dont have the original RUU there is nothing to do. Is it possible somehow to change the main version in fastboot???? I think this would be the only chance without the the ruu.

Try this site http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/?developer=Saga

Guess you forgot to fastboot flash boot boot.img
Also, why would you need a RUU anyway? You can still enter recovery, can't you? Heck, of course you can: even if you couldn't you could always fastboot flash recovery recovery.img a working one.
I fail to see why a RUU would be necessary here.

Thanks for your help, but I dont really understand what u say..... Right now there is clockwork 5.0.2.0 on it, we tried to install custom roms, which seemed to be done, but the phone stops at HTC logo after flashing. I guess I could flash back the original recovery (actually I only have one from RUU 1.32.161.1), but how would it solve my problem? How about the other image files, like system, hboot etc? Please exlain it to me a bit more detailed! Thx

Lets see again: bootloader unlocked, cwm 5.0.2.0 installed, as you adviced I flased an official 1.32.161.1(older than the original 2.10.161.5) boot.img, then tried to install from recovery the custom rom, which still seems to be ok, but the phone freezes at htc logo during boot. This custom rom is a well known working version, there shouldnt be any problem. What else can I do without the RUU?

Why don't you just flash the boot.img that's included with the custom ROM...?

I think you unlocked your bootloader with htcdev, if yes you need to extract the boot.img of the ROM and after flashing the ROM you have to flash the kernel (boot.img) with fastboot, but next time search the forum, this has been discussed many times

Run the ruu without attached device, don't close the the window.
Search inside your temp folder for the rom.zip, copy it to another folder and close the window.
Inside the rom.zip remove the hboot.img and recovery.img.
Flashing with bootloader:
Rename it to PG88IMG.zip.
Put it to the root of your sd.
Reboot to bootloader and follow the instructions.
Delete the pg88img.zip, otherwise it will try to flash it everytime you access the bootloader.
Flashing from recovery:
Put it to your sd.
Wipe all partitions except sd.
Flash it from recovery.
....extract the boot.img from the rom you flash via recovery and put it somewhere in your computer like C:\Android
then when you are in recovery open cmd connect your phone using the cable provided and type adb reboot bootloader
your phone will reboot in bootloader.now type in cmd fastboot flash boot C:\Android\boot.img
then reboot your phone.

That's why the hboot.img and the recovery.img needs to be deleted
Without those he still would stay s-off and with the same recovery, just the system, radio and kernel would be reverted back to stock

It seems that there are some incompatibility issues with HBOOT 1.27 on Sensation. Many people including me are getting bootloops with any ROM.

Possibly bricked my phone
Hi All,
I'm somewhat noobish. I wanted to install Cyanogenmod for my HTC Sensation 4G on T-mobile.
I achieved S-OFF, installed clockworkmod, created a back up, wiped the phone and flashed the new ROM and the google apps zip file. After I entered my gmail info, it was up and running, but with no reception. It wouldn't recognize any signal, so I figured it was something with the radio. I tried to install the PG58IMG.zip to fix it. I then went to recovery mode, and it started loading but immediately would say:
SD Checking...
Loading...[PG58DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PG58DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PG58IMG.zip]
Then it says:
Parsing...[SD ZIP]
[1] RECOVERY
Do you want to start update?
Whether I select yes or no, it just asks to reboot, and when I do, it goes back to locking on the initial HTC screen. Any help would be much appreciated!
What happens if you remove the SD card ?

2.unzip it
3.find "firmware.zip" and rename it to PG58IMG.zip
4.copy into root of your SD-CARD
5. go to the bootloader it should flash the zip file
6. confim when asked that you want to flash.

Use lazy mode. Flash eng hboot. It can be found in here somewhere, and but you need relock bootloader before you flash ruu. Or just flash eng hboot and then flash stock ruu

my htc sensation xe is stuck at the htc screen so i wanted to restore the backup via adb -> doesnt work, because the phone has to boot to do this. so is it possible to flash a full rom via the fastboot menu? this is the only thing that is working properly atm (no adb, not working recovery etc.) so is it possible or do i have to do something else?

Hi,
What were you trying to do?
What ROM were you on,and what firmware?
i had been trying to flash ota ics and since that, the phone is stuck at the htc bootscreen so i wanted to restore the backup or flash a official rom or custom rom but im not able to do this because the phone isnt recognized by adb in the bootloader menu and before all this it had the android version gb 2.3.4. which specific firmware do you mean? hboot version is 1.18.0000...
edit: will it work if i would flash a gb custom rom via pd98img.zip?
Happen to come across this thread and wanted to leave this for future reference. I edited it to suit the Sensation more. I also posted this in the Juopunutbear S-OFF in the Sensation Android Development.
ROM Flashing
1. Obtain a ROM of your choice, and note the location on your computer.
2. reboot your device into fastboot mode via one the following .
1. power off the device then back on with 'vol down ' + power button.
3. Wipe your device.
1. fastboot -w
4 . Update your ROM.
1. fastboot update </path/to/your/RomFile.zip>
5. Your phone will update and automatically reboot into the new ROM.

You can extract all the firmware and software images from an RUU and build them into a PG58IMG.zip... Short answer, yes. However, certain items will not flash if you're not S-off.

Then thnx a lot. It'll help a lot for other people... And I believe the person should at least have an unlocked bootloader by htcdev to get this work.

Yes you have to be HTC Dev unlocked or S-off to do this. But remember HTC Dev only unlocks the system, recovery, and boot partitions.

one more question
to flash rom via fastboot then the rom should be containing img's for each partition
unlike how all the custom roms here are coming (no img's for every thing...like example there is no system.img for most of custom kernels)

installing stock RUU

Hi,
I know there are already a lot of topics about this, but I did not find anything that could help me.
I am trying to get back to the stock android version of my HTC desire s but whatever RUU I try to install is giving me an error I cant seem to figure out.
First I installed a custom ROM using this guide (with reaper v3): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
Now I want to return to the stock android version of my phone using a RUU I found on HTC DEV.
This shows me an errormessage on my computer (Install could not complete or something)
And when I pull out the USB cord My phone shows "RUU Security Fail! Update Fail!"
I think that the kernel version I have installed following that guide I mentioned is somehow the cause of this.
Could I solve this by flashing a stock kernel and then executing a stock RUU?
If yes, where would I find one?
If no, any other suggestions?
Thanks!
Follow my guide for downgrading if you will. Check my sig.

I think you should flash your original RUU for restore related condition to original status, and then flash another RUU.
Also suggest you can try to flash it via fastboot,.

[Q] Flash S3 Stock Recovery?

Hi guys. I got my One S like two months ago, and I got the S3 version. Unfortunately. I unlocked and rooted (with TWRP). I finally got the Sense 4.1 update. But I need to revert to stock recovery to install it, 'cause it won't seem to install otherwise.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to do this? I do not know what the heck a "RUU" is. I got linked to this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543588, from there I went to the filefactory download page, and I got a whole bunch of "RUU" files, and I have no idea which one is for mine.
So, please, for the love of god, I'm begging someone to tell me how to do this. I just wan to flash back to stock recover, relock the bootloader, and install the update.
Anyone!
1.You must flash stock recovery via fastboot
2.lock the bootloader with cmd(fastboot oem lock)
3.Then run the ruu exe with windows.
(Ruu is a installation on the PC to revert to stock)
For your device, you must find on filefactory ruu villec2 2.15

Question: how do I flash the stock recovery? I'm really sorry if this is a dumb question. I downloaded the mentioned RUU (what the heck is a RUU anyway ). So now I just need to know how to flash the stock recovery. Is this something that happens via a command through fastboot? Or a file I need to specifically flash in? In which case, any idea where I can download the stock recovery for the S3? 'Cause everytime I searched for it, I just kept getting linked back to RUU files. =S

Put it in your android folder then flash with cmd(fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img)
You must be in bootloader usb doing this!

I know I'm supposed to use the thanks button (and I did), but THANK YOU! SO. MUCH. You have no idea how desperate I've been for the last nine hours trying to figure this out! I'm gonna go try it out now.
No problem
